WE'LL BE BACK SUNDAY WITH "YOUR TOP QUESTIONS ANSWERED" LAUNCH DAY IS HERE. Prayers up for everyone in queue, but if you're #squarebassed you knew to be there. Stock has been completely blown out around the world. Overwhelming demand? Short sighted under supply? Who knows? We did. We're swimming with the big fish now so all of your engagement and support is tremendously appreciated. This is just the beginning of the beginning. LET'S JUST HAVE A GOOD TIME
So on point! This is the best Old World content on RUclips to date. Two very knowledgeable people who just get the whole concept and that this is a great CORE release and starting point!
Assembled 60 oathmark skelies, a vangorian battle box, and the remains of cursed city box. Going to take this army to SO many tourneys and no one can stop me
I'm so excited for Beastmen. I collected an army of them around the End Times but never enough to play a full game. I have yet to paint them but I'm really pumped to get them out of storage, get em painted up and play some games!
You're excitement for the game is infectious. I'm realizing that after 5 years of AOS I really just wanted to play fantasy. If I can find a way to put together an army that can be used in both I'll be diving in!
@@UmbraBree I doubt it only because GW is very much not putting enough resources into TOW for that to happen. But if they were to put as many resources into TOW as they do to AoS, I'm convinced most people would just play TOW.
Not going to happen. Most of Age of Shitmar focuses (especially now) on having like 6 fucking models on the table that cost 300 bucks a pop and calling it an "Army". Its embarassing. Leave age of shitmar in the dumpster where it belongs, and just focus on the FAR superior game.
@UmbraBree don't GW and SDS have some sort of turf war going on between them which is preventing old world from officially producing the skaven and dwarf model for specifically old world? I might be making that up but that would mean that OW won't be able to release an OW skaven army as they're owned by GW.. I could be way off (square) base but I feel I heard Rob say this at some point
The re-release has brought me back into the hobby after 16 years. All my tools and old models (greenskins) have effectively been lost so I'll be starting from scratch but I'm still excited - even if I won't be able to aford paints and tools for atleast a month from now. Just got my pre-order locked for my tomb kings base and the books so am very keen to get back into things with my Egyptian themed boyz. Edit: I've only bought the base box so far to get started, but love the look of the tomb guard and necropolis knights packs. Did baulk a bit on the cost of the ushabti though and am hoping for a new kit for the necrolith collosus / hierotitan (if the latter is even in the army book).
My favorite thing about WHFB is the way it effortlessly a game can assume its own narrative and turn into a story right in front of your eyes. That misfire that destroys your catapult right at the start, the dragon that terrorizes all the peasants while the knights hold their ground, wizards facing each other between gusts of magic… this game is absolutely great for the way it tells the story of a battle and that is unrivaled by other GW games imo, save perhaps for Necromunda
I have been excited for Warhammer Fantasy back since the first teaser in 2019 and I am super stoked to bring a whole lot of new people into this universe that I love.
I also want to put everyone on a dragon, I used to spend so much time making army lists, picking everyone's equipment and giving them dumb cool names. Great watch as usual, painting up some bloodbowl orcs but looking forward to get into the old world soon!
Near the end, talking about community, really is a huge focus of why people play games. Like, I dont play Warhammer games much anymore at all, but I still run in those circles, try and get people to play new games (like Conquest) to meet new people or have new experiences. It really sucks when people snap or shun other games or organizers for other games, just to play the same old. I don't want Ye Olde Worlde to fail. I want it to be successful so my rank and flank game has a competitor and a sister community that we can both grow from it. Going to maybe overshare a little maybe, but I've been trying to build my local Conquest community for a year now. I've had some success, some failure, but through it all I've tried to maintain a positivity, combating any naysayers and people who pretty much only complain about a thing. It can get tiring though when you're one of the only ones able to do that. When you start to feel like you're alone in being excited for a game, despite having a dozen or so other people locally playing, it can devastate you. Part of the reason I still come back to your content, AoS or YOW, is your positivity or jovial candor. Keep doing what youre doing Rob and Val. I probably wont ever play, but I'll hang out with you guys from time to time.
Ive said this before but as a kitbasher/hobbyist the whole idea of them making new units rules wise (and allies) that I can then go and model is what Im excited about. This has so many ideas running through my mind. It reminds me of cults of Slaanesh, and other cool things they did in that era. I think this will only elevate the game and spark interest. Im also excited about how the did magic, I think before it was just a slog, but now it seems faster and more strategic placing it into the different phases.
Awesome chat like always and can't wait for you to do a breakdown of the basic rules, then rule for the army like Bretonnia and Tomb Kings. I do have one question will you do the odd battle report so people can learn a little easier. Thanks to both of you for your amazing work and can't wait for the next video.
One of the things I am most excited for is seeing people's armies. Your forces, units, placement of models, loadouts, etc feel so much more deliberate than other games Games Workshop makes. So more thought, and consequently more TLC seems to go into a fantasy army than might happen otherwise. :)
Happy preorder day everyone. I hope you all got all the goodies you wanted and the queues were kind to you (I had a 1 hour queue myself but I got what I wanted 😅)
The wizard hat is very cool. Perhaps even cooler, in a recent Storm of Magic 8th Ed game, I gave my Hobgoblin boss the magic hat that turns him into a giant! He went on a small rampage, before failing his roll to maintain being a giant, as the wounds he had suffered as a giant carried over to his weedy Hobgoblin profile he died instantly. Mental.
I am cautiously optimistic. I didnt manage to order the rules book but the army books. First thing I will do is plan my first army. I am between Beasts of Chaos / Warriors of Chaos / Orks and goblins. Advice is always welcome :)
Great enthusiasm from both of you. My number one is being able to create an Army or hero's that can reflect the way that I play and personality. Building a story around what you have built is so exciting and when you build that Army and place it on the table.... Bloody Hell think of the anticipation and dread that will flow through you as you see your opponents army across the table. So looking forward to playing! Also looking forward to reading the rules and Army rules so that you can begin to emerse in the Old World 😁👍
You two have helped keep me hyped for the game! I’m really excited to finally put my Bretonnians on a table again and play a game! Still love my mounted yeomen and battle monks despite Rob’s misgivings. I also really appreciate your constructive stance on the game and community, and look forward to bringing that positive attitude into my games.
Loving the continued positivity about the future of the game. Can’t wait to read those books, I’ve stopped short of screen grabbing pages from reviews as yet, but I may not last till launch day. Keep up the good work
Just gotta say, yesterday was the lowest day during the roll out of this game. The past months and especially weeks have been so exciting and promising, then yesterday they released that “No soup for you!” comment on “legacy” factions and it really felt like it derailed all of that excitement the community had built up over the weeks. Very negative day after all the hype. You guys released this video at the perfect time. As a new player, who never got to play Fantasy but who LOVES skaven, I was super bummed for the first time in this roll out. Today I’m back on the hype train. Thanks fellas 🤘
during 6th and 7th edition i have just a vague idea of how inconvenient consulting a unit during game... after AoS, the warscrolls changed my life i mean, the informations about a unit are: in the selection pages (where the points are) in the description pages (with the explaination of the special rules) in the weapons section on the core book in the universal special rules section on the core book i will make my warscrolls
Great content as always lads,as excited as I am for old world, you two inject a new level of excitement into this hobby! Happy new year & keep up your contagious excitement for the old world!😀😀
Heck, I’m just vibing the whole game right now - the models, the rules, the returning lore & the (somewhat new) setting, it’s just giving me a great feeling. This game has a wonderful combo of nostalgic whimsy (even though I never played WFB myself) & tough-as-nails ranked combat gameplay that nothing else out there can really offer. I’m looking forward to picking up my first models during the year and growing my knowledge of the game alongside the community!
Val, my gaming group, 4 of us, are super excited about the Old World. We live on the east coast united states, but would be willing to travel to Canada for event(s) [within reason, we'd probably be driving like lunatics]. Where can I keep updated about events that either you or Val-Affiliated [i.e. renegade factions allowed] tournaments that might be popping up? And thanks so much for your excitement, but also your community support. It means a lot. We have a bunch of armies, but most of our favorites are the ones on the cutting block.
Unable to join in on the Warhammer Old World Tourneys but I shall continue to obsessively consume this podcast until summer when I should be able to join in! 😁
I’m glad the game has hypemen like you two. I’m looking forward to it. My FLGS is looking forward it. Then I go on Reddit and people acting like end times 2.0 just occurred. Thanks for a making a “we will make the game work GW be damned” community.
Did you all get what you were hoping for from the pre-orders, I got all the books, super excited.. I'll start a new armour end of next month and continue some existing armies.. but lets digest the rules and settle my finances.
Love the positivity... it's exciting indeed! For the most part they seem to be doing an awesome job with this release. Very nice callbacks to prior editions at least w/ my first impressions.
Do you play older editions? I’ve got a Chaos Dwarf army that I’ve been using in games of 6th and 8th. A pdf ruleset is quite exciting, but I’m also a little worried. I really hope they don’t do us dirty, it’s going to be a long long time before we get anything else, if ever! It needs to be right first time.
@tomwood1692 I don't yet. I re-based them to rounds for AOS and didn't have it in me to switch them back yet. This will at least give me the push to do it. I liked 8th so I wouldn't mind playing it again if there's still a community for it in a few years.
the excitement you bring about the old world and its rules is the exact opposite of the total indifference oozing out of miniature wargaming battle report, such a hype destroyer that was
Thinking about survivability of the game system, what do you guys make of the statement in the recent 'past and future' almanack article which says, "These ‘Legacy’ factions will however get free, downloadable army lists... though please note that they won’t be considered legal for tournaments, and won’t receive ongoing support. If you want to come on this long-term journey with us, the factions in the Forces of Fantasy and Ravening Hordes books are the ones to collect and play - and we want to be pretty clear about that." It does give me pause for the future of my SbGl minis as a valid Vampire Counts army... really excited about the free pdfs - but will they go out of date - and will tournaments out in the real world really ban them? That seems a bit harsh! Thoughts welcome!
for me its getting my Dwarfs again. A long while back, must be 10 years or so, my shed was broken into, my entire collection bar some Heresy models were stolen, including my entire Dwarf collection I had been building since I was 8 or 9, all my 40k stuff too, I was so disheartened I did not want to collect them again, build and paint them, shortly after they killed off warhammer Fantasy so even if I wanted to I could not rebuild my army. Now the Old World is back I am going to try and rebuild my old army one for one when time an money allows, it hits that kid in me and has me excited for getting the Dawi going once again.
I will answer the question asked at the start. I am going to kitbash the Brettonian boxset to be more kislev like so I can use them as filler units when the Kislev army is realeased. And I can play them as brets until then.
The way the new rules encourage allies - you know, having it right with the army construction segemtn for each army - I hope allies get used more often to do thematic and unique armies. Combine Wood Elves and High Elves to do that forest-spirity Avelorn army! Mix Warriors of Chaos and Beastmen for some truly chaotic horde! Ally Beastmen with Orcs&Goblins to get some creepy 'shroom monstrosity alongside your Squig herds! The options were always there, I just hope people pick up the ball and play with it again.
I think the word you both were looking for on the new Magic system is "integrated" - it's more integrated into the game and will have significant effects but without being game-breakingly powerful like it was in 8th ed.
I have a lumineth army and am really excited to use them to play some high elves in this game! I worked hard to paint and base the army for AoS. What would be a fair way to use these minis without ripping their bases off? Is there a tray system that I use to keep them on rounds? Or am I cheating my opponent?
Just adding a humble request for some base adapters for AOS models to purchase from you fine folks. Would love to give Old World a try with my existing Gitz and Ironjawz models in an Orcs and Gobbos army while supporting the podcast. :)
Excited about: Building a character: paying for magic stuff and just making the character my own. Templates: might cause arguments but man they are fun Painting knights: I can do them justice now. One of the armies I was both fascinated and intimidated by as a child. Now I have the box! Leadership doing stuff: running people down is awesome
Y'all literally make my days better and have helped myself and my friends get more and more hyped for not only this game but just being able to enjoy the hobby! Also: I 100% agree that 40k has lost its soul. And to your point about crunchyness in 40k they have gotten rid of sub factions so it's even less crunchy then you said.
My initial plans: I'm rebasing my Tomb Kings army from early AoS from round bases to modern squares (I know, I know...), and adding some new units (Sepulchral Stalkers, Tomb Guard, and Settra!), and getting all the books. My future plans: Khazukan Kazakit-HA!!!
I originally loved Warhammer Fantasy since I was a kid, but I could never afford the models and books. However, by the time I became an adult and was able to afford it, WFB was dead. Now, I can actually get into the original setting like I always wanted
Theres no way i will rebase all my aos vampires to counts now, and am behind painting as it is to buy whole second army. But every episode was so fun you'll stay as my only window into fantasy return
The description you are looking for is magic and spells being more consistent and better integrated into the overall framework of the game, rather than feeling like a wild and swingy external factor to the game being played, like it was is 8th edition. Which is not to say that either is or was superior to the other, mind you. What the 8th edition magic system did well was to convey a feeling of danger and provided a nod towards the wild and untamed nature of magic in the Warhammer setting, which was always implied in the background but not always evident in the game rules of previous editions. Ludo-narratively (drink!), you could therefore argue that it was a more true and fitting system for the world of Warhammer.
I’m actually most interested to see if GW can keep the line in stock. Also, if you can find it in the FLGS. I really just need the books so in some strange way, I’m actually hoping, for the sake of my wallet, that the minis are in short supply.
It is amazing. But recent interviews with some of the old timers from GW suggests that they’ve always succeeded in spite of themselves. I get so tired of listening to people who have clearly never worked in retail (or, perhaps, never worked at all) say that the constant stock outs are part of GW’s nefarious plan. So the plan is for people, with cash in their hands, ready to give it to GW, to be encouraged to go to third party producers or Etsy 3D printers instead? Probably not.
@@earnestwanderer2471 the main thing that upsets me on this point is that they had the nerve to claim they had excess manufacturing capacity in the last annual report. It's not quite as bad as when I first started following the company in 2015... But I used to call them a mom and pop shop with a global supply chain - Val
When Val said, "I've never seen GW do this kind of release before, where you get everything at launch" he made it clear that he doesn't pay any attention to the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game. Its latest edition launched in the same way, with a core rule book, and then a book for the trilogy armies and a book for the Hobbit armies. I'm not interested in playing Old World, but I'm glad GW has decided it can be a game that just exists instead of being something like the big 2 that need constant releases to drive model sales.

No one can make Old World seem as good as the two of you do.
That's such a hype thing to say
Especially as GW try to unhype their own game as often as they can.
Exactly
These guys are crushing it. Best Old World content out there!

I'm so sorry about what happened to you. I also lost some models in a robbery. You deserve to be happy and I hope some dwarves bring that joy
I will answer the question asked at the start. I am going to kitbash the Brettonian boxset to be more kislev like so I can use them as filler units when the Kislev army is realeased. And I can play them as brets until then.
Good job boys you always have different content to the rest which I appreciate thanks again 🎉
I'm looking forward to actually knowing base sizes
Great show, I'm going to make an Empire army over this year.
Yay! Building Lots of Armies from Scratch! Also actually having people to play Fantasy with in my area.
Thansk for putting out so much content on the old world.
Gonna bust out the Asur and the Warriors, get some paint on them and get some of those sweet sweet movement trays printed!
I love all the content you are producing, but please do not give up the fight to make Val the SQUARE KING. LONG LIVE KING VAL.
The best podcast on square bases!
I have a lumineth army and am really excited to use them to play some high elves in this game! I worked hard to paint and base the army for AoS. What would be a fair way to use these minis without ripping their bases off? Is there a tray system that I use to keep them on rounds? Or am I cheating my opponent?
MiniDepot has 25-50mm Rank and Flank Conversion Movement Trays
Just adding a humble request for some base adapters for AOS models to purchase from you fine folks.
Would love to give Old World a try with my existing Gitz and Ironjawz models in an Orcs and Gobbos army while supporting the podcast. :)
Very bassed. I'll let Robbo know
Im an oval based lurker but this show is entertaining af.
Love anything Rob does - even when I don't play the game.
Thanks for taking us all on this #sqaurebassed journey this past year 🤘
Thanks for joining us. We've been having so much fun w you all. And now there's an actual game!
Don't you know if any kind of official TOW army builder software will be out sooner or later? Thanks
Top video. As always! You motivated me to work hard on my 30 renegade Witch Elves
Excited about:
Building a character: paying for magic stuff and just making the character my own.
Templates: might cause arguments but man they are fun
Painting knights: I can do them justice now. One of the armies I was both fascinated and intimidated by as a child. Now I have the box!
Leadership doing stuff: running people down is awesome
Hey Rob. Where did you buy that over shirt from?
Y'all literally make my days better and have helped myself and my friends get more and more hyped for not only this game but just being able to enjoy the hobby!
Also: I 100% agree that 40k has lost its soul. And to your point about crunchyness in 40k they have gotten rid of sub factions so it's even less crunchy then you said.
It's our fav day of the week too.
Love me some Rob and Val.
We also likely love you too
My initial plans: I'm rebasing my Tomb Kings army from early AoS from round bases to modern squares (I know, I know...), and adding some new units (Sepulchral Stalkers, Tomb Guard, and Settra!), and getting all the books. My future plans: Khazukan Kazakit-HA!!!
I've already got a 2-3K game lined up for Jan 20th. There are a lot of excited players here.
Thanks for keeping the message positive about The Old World amongst a sea of naysayers. I’m here to weather the storm with you gents
I originally loved Warhammer Fantasy since I was a kid, but I could never afford the models and books. However, by the time I became an adult and was able to afford it, WFB was dead. Now, I can actually get into the original setting like I always wanted
Great content guys, timestamps would be much appreciated!
Theres no way i will rebase all my aos vampires to counts now, and am behind painting as it is to buy whole second army. But every episode was so fun you'll stay as my only window into fantasy return
Love the energy of your show
I'm starting to get excited about this and bringing my old school (dark elf) models back. For next year they need to bring Mordheim back :)
Just found the channel. Love the content!
I’m absolutely BUZZING. LETS GOOOO
Most excited about SETTRA!
Sign off line idea: see you next time on the square based podcast, where the old world isn't just flat, its square.
Excited for the launch, another great video, how do you feel value wise the brets box is, seems the models still hold up relatively ok by today?
It's the one I bought! - Val
square based hype day!!
I’m actually most interested to see if GW can keep the line in stock. Also, if you can find it in the FLGS. I really just need the books so in some strange way, I’m actually hoping, for the sake of my wallet, that the minis are in short supply.
As much as they're known for being a money grubbing corpo... GW actually Ioves leaving money on the table so you're in luck!
Thanks for the content. I am looking for some non GW High Elf models, any recommendations?
OOOOH that's actually a toughie. I'd try Last Sword miniatures first. Lemme know your thoughts!
I, for one, am very hyped for herohammer. Been waiting for this since 5th edition
VAL IS GLOWING 🤟
Get #Bassed Great show legends, absolutely pumped
Solid lads. So....Square Based T-shirts? Need some corporate image when I stroll into Warhammer HQ.
It's here!
I'm sure he just wasn't aware and is excited for something he thinks is positive
@@SquareBasedOldWorld sorry if that came off as an attack. It was more a statement of sadness that no one recognizes the MESBG for the gem that it is
Que up? Or finish painting the island of blood renegade Skaven that have been sitting around for a decade? Choices choices….
