    Nice comparison, I've just ordered the Origin 20, I already have enough Fenders to choose from, HRD, BJ and 5E3. Really glad I went the Origin route, it gives those classic Marshall, pre-JCM tones, not super hi gain, but able to deliver Clapton, Kossoff, Jimi, Jimmy, Angus and Malcolm tones

    Two nice amps. But the Bassbreaker is more dynamic. The clean is really warm. And add some overdrive and you can really get some sweet dirty tones. Origin has a hard time to get clean sounds without breaking up. Origin kinda loses some definition when played heavy. I own 2 marshalls (JSCM 2000/AVT) too.

    Fender is fuller and has a very pleasant thing about its sound that makes it very appealing to listen to. Also heard Marshall nowadays has some quality problems, wich by rhe way may be the case with that particular fender model to, at least in the beginning. However wouldn't trade in my Ohlsson Amp for any of them.

    • @adamwatson6916
      @adamwatson6916 3 года назад

      I had a limited edition blonde tolex bassbreaker 15 with a creamback m65 and while it sounded fantastic I had to return it because it was very noisy and buzzy and it was a newer model . One big complaint with the bassbreaker from the beginning was how noisy they were and the loud buzzing so it seems to be a design flaw that they have not worked out . I recently tired another limited edition bassbreaker which they call the gunmetal version which has dark grayish tolex and the creamback 65 and. Was really hoping it would be quieter as I love the tone of the 15 with a creamback 65 and again it sounded fantastic tone wise but was very buzzy with a loud hum . Very frustrating . If I could find one that was even just somewhat quieter I would grab it . Even if it was a stock version I would grab it and put a creamback 65 in it . I have 2 modern Marshall's a dsl 40cr and a dsl 5cr and have had no issues with either and have owned both for 3 years . I have heard others having issues with their modern Marshall's but I think that is par for the course with a mass produced amp at a lower price point I don't think issues with Marshall's are any more prominent than they are with fenders lower cost amps or any more common than with orange amps you will find examples of poor quality with most mass produced amps whether its marshall fender orange or black star . The internet tends to make these problems seem much worse then they are. Poor quality does happen but people are more likely to post about their amp when something goes wrong to vent their disappointment or anger or to simply ask for advice on troubleshooting or to ask for ideas on replacement anps from other companies people are far less likely to join a gear forum and post comments just to say I bought a new marhsall or orange amp etc and it has no qc issues and when those comments are made its usually part a post that had another purpose so the image of poor quality control tends to get skewed . You often hear. About bad quality examples but you dont hear about millions of units that do not have qc issues. When you consider the amount of units produced of say an origin or DSL and look st the percentage of units with actual QC issues I think the percentage would be quite low .

    Nice comparison - there's not much in it between the two, which is sort of what I expected to hear. Subtle differences in tone and breakup-characteristics, but both largely fairly similar.

  • @AndrewLewisHowe
    @AndrewLewisHowe 3 года назад +2

    One thing you might try in your shootouts: Can we make Item A sound like Item B, and vice-versa, by twiddling knobs.
    You might be able to get the Origin to sound like the Fender here by adjusting knobs, but maybe you can't get the Fender to sound like the Origin.
    I do this when A/B ing pedals at home. Can I get this four knob pedal to sound just like the three knob I have that's similar? If I can, then I mark down the settings and sell off the three knob.
    Same applies to amps, as well, but not as easily because you have to use the same speaker to really know.

    Recently I bought the Fender Bassbreaker 15 and I returned it straight after 1 week to the shop. The sound 'structure' mid /high was horrible, very noisy not pleasant at all for the ear. And the EQ section bass/mi had total no effect on the sound. You could turn the the knob from 0 to 10 , nothing changed. So maybe I was not lucky I got a defect amp. I read a lot negative reviews after all. I own a blues junior so for me this purchase was an attempt to replace it by the head bassbreaker 15. Overall I think it is a pity because the bassbreaker has potential but quality issues is killing it.

    I love the origin 50 but did not care for 20 at all . The 50 has alot more clarity especially when overdriven . The bassbreaker sounds great when used with creamback m65 speakers and the orign as well . The 50 watt origin combo with the creamback really makes it more vintage sounding. I do not care for the midnight 60 stock speaker its more modern sounding and makes the origin 50 have more of that brighter harsher modern marshall tone . I do love that modern bighter more aggressive marshall tone but not when I want the most accurate vintage plexi or jtm 45 type tone .

    Totally agree ! This Marshall origin sounds surprisingly better for clean sounds, and is warmer by far with p90. This Fender bassbreaker performs very well with humbuckers in high gain territory : it sounds more compressed so it has less "glitch" in the mids than the Marshall when it's cranked. On the other hand, you can switch the Marshall in 20W, 3W, 0.5W like the Orange rocker 15 terror for home use... How this fender performs at low level ?

    I keep hearing too much bass in the bassbreaker and not enough clarity & mids, could be all the p90s too though and half hearted riffs and volume. I have owned a Origin 50h for over a year, never use the boost mode, keep tilt in middle and everything else on 2 o'clock, presence on 1-2, and its the best $600 amp I've ever bought and a hell of a pedal platform but I am biased. Have owned a a few fender amps and never loved them. EL34 guy I guess. Get the 50h Origin and play an overdrive pedal through a 2x12 or 4x12 with greenbacks and you'll hear it.

    Have owned both amps … still have the Bassbreaker. The Origin was (and still is) the most bland amplifier I have ever played. Still think my Orange Rocker 32 and Dual Terror (running through a 2x12 or 4x12) kick the balls off both of them though! Bassbreaker is my practice amp now that I've sold my soul to Orange ...

      Triple the price but 10 times better. Just speaking from experience. I spent a long time buying cheap stuff. Save your money and buy something good. You will end up spending just as much on cheap stuff.

      I use the Marshall Origin 50H with massive clean headroom, and it is amazing. I have owned Fender's over the years, but I love the Origin 50H clean!

      I think you had the two confused, because the Origin walked all over the Bassbreaker during the clean tones. Ya may wanna listen again.
