      I believe the bass breaker is just the beginning of a new line of amps for fender. They will maintain their original Amos that they're known for, but also continue to advance with these modern "high gainish" Amps

  • @lufiealice6251
    @lufiealice6251 7 лет назад +38

    The most noticeable difference between these two amps and important to know, I have a Bassbreaker and have had a Jnr, is the jump in volume you get with the Blues Jnr. The Jnr goes from silent to loud In tenth of a millimetre turn on the volume knob which makes it difficult for home use. The Bassbreaker's volume is progressively smooth from silent to loud.

      How you would describe a clean sounds on bouth? Isnt a BB15 much boxier like 2d clean sound?

    • @angusorvid8840
      @angusorvid8840 Год назад +1

      @@bertonedes I had a BB15 and didn't like it. The clean sound is nothing to write home about and the overdrive is just very dry. The smaller 007 is a better sounding amp all around and better for home use. It's got a 10-inch speaker which works better for Fender amps. Yes, the BB series is Marshall like, but still has a lot of Fender DNA and I think would be better served with 10-inch speakers because they compress the sound more and you need that with a Fender.

    • @bertonedes
      @bertonedes Год назад

      @@angusorvid8840 Hey, i bought it aniway. And now i like it. 2 years i have it now. Overdrive is one BIG NO NO! I use rather pedals, and its fine. For gig-home situations, its perfect. Cleans are more Fenderish than Marschallish.....but yes, it has nothing to do with a Priceton vibe on example.

    I'm not just saying this because I've had a Blues Junior for the past 15 years, but the Blues Junior just fills up the room with round and beautiful sonic goodness. I'd take it over the Bassbreaker any day. It just has THE sound you're looking for out of a Fender amp.
    If I were after "crunch", Vox's AV30 would be my go-to (at half the price of either of the Fender options).
    Plus, it might only be 10%, but the Blues Junior IS still less expensive.

      One player on one guitar could sound different when on a different amp because it's a different time playing. Best way is to have each player record some loops from a few different guitars then feed the looper into each amp for comparison.

  • @JG-ux7of
    @JG-ux7of 5 лет назад +2

    I think the reason the Blues Jr is so popular is because it is loud enough to rehearse and gig with but small and light enough to jump in the back of a cab with.
    After owning my Bassbreaker for a little longer I can tell you that I have fallen in love with it and I don't need my Blues Jr. I still won't sell it because this is the second one I've owned and if I sell it I will probably buy another one in a few years. The Bassbreaker I have is the FSR Limited Edition with Midnight Oil tolex and the black and white grill cloth that comes stock with the Celestion Greenback Speaker. I actually much prefer the look and sound of mine to the original version.
    Also the effects loop is pretty noisy on the Bassbreaker. You absolutely need an isolated power supply to use it. Modulation is especially noisy though it. If you daisy chain effects it sounds like the amp is turned up really loud at all volumes and if you have a chorus or phaser you hear swirls of hum. This is after they fixed it too, apparently the earlier versions were unusable. I still highly recommend this amp.

    I use these 2 amps together in a stereo set-up OR a wet/dry set-up. They are very different. Nice when played together.The Jr is scoopy and has a better clean tone. The bassbreaker is very mid oriented. Be aware that the extra gain in the structure med and hi comes from an analog circuit (TS style ) in the effect loop. Actually you can reproduce the structure med gain tones with a TS in the effect loop while structure is in low position....You can reproduce structure hi gain by adding a second TS overdrive in the effect loop with structure in low position....

    Hey guys, Can't thank you enough for your reviews on the Bass Breaker series. I have spent almost a year researching and trying out amps in the 10 to 30 watt range. Have played $1,500 amps down to $300 (used Peavey Classic 30). Finally settled on a used Bass Breaker 15 head. Play it through a 2x12 cab with Celestion GH-12 35 watt (circa 1991) speakers. One tip - the middle gain setting with the master turned up almost all the way - supper bluesy lead tone, but more importantly, roll back the volume and it's the amp's loudest cleans with almost no grit. One other tip - I run an ancient Fostex solid state spring reverb through the effects loop. Holly Hell !!!!! The other guitar player in the band plays a Dr. Z Maz Jr. He was absolutely flabbergasted at the BB's debut rehearsal. Tonal BLISS!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

    Lee's Cap10 has such a chunky gain sound in the bridge when mixed with the drive and bass of the Bassbreaker and that's the sound I'd go for. So, personally, I believe the Bassbreaker is much better for diversity.

    I did this same AB comparison in guitar center. Both had great clean tones...the bassbreaker was a bit warmer and the bluesjunior a bit chimier. The bassbreaker obviously has more sound options but it only has one channel so I'm going to use pedals to get gain sounds anyways. The real deal breaker was all of the modern features on the bassbreaker. More tonal options for recording, an XRL out, an fx loop. The blues junior doesn't seem to do low "apartment" volumes well too, the volume really jumps up as you increase the master volume

      @@DavidRFIT I agree completely. They're not the same amp. The Tweed has a Jensen speaker and is modeled after the old Fender Deluxe amps. The Black tolex version is modeled from the Hot Rod series and has a Celestion speaker.

    Hi guys @andertons...
    Impossible to compare the reverb sound of both amps because reverb tail is being levelled up when guitar tone decays by a compressor in the recording chain (or by youtube).
    For me the "blues junior" sounds more organic and harmonically rich. Perhaps an example that the recorded sound (what a closed mic hear) can be a completely different thing compared to the impression of the sound in the room.

    There was some kind of funny volume compression happening on the amp mics that made it difficult to hear some of the cleaner - milder licks; as the volume dropped very low. Then - at the very end of each lick - as the amp volume faded - the compression kicked back out and the video volume increased a lot for a second. It wasn't good - very different than the sound handling on most of your videos. Whatever that was - let's hope you don't do that any more. Otherwise - a great comparison video !!

      Your hearing the mic switch from the amp to the voices is all. In post editing, they go from the amp mic to the speaking mic, and when they switch to the voice mic, you're still hearing the live amp in the background.

    • @andrewpolitano
      @andrewpolitano 8 лет назад

      It's super annoying. "listen to this reverb.." And the 'verb gets cut off after a second and they start speaking over it in the background.

      It's probably gotta do with the fact that the amps were mic'd and whoever edited the video went back and forth between the amp mics and the overhead mics for Rob and Lee's voices.

    I've tried both of these amps and I'll probably try them again after watching this but for my needs I think the Blues Jr. is just a little too loud! One of my favorite things about the Bassbreaker is that you can set it at a fairly low volume and still get that great fender tone! Still hoping I get to own both someday though! These are just two great amps period!

  • @Ebadd9
    @Ebadd9 6 лет назад +2

    I tried them both in the store. The clean sound on the blues jr is so much better then the bassbreaker. I thought the bassbreaker would be classic fender clean tone and marshall gain type sound but the clean sound in my opinion wasn't there on the bassbreaker.

  • @RICKYBUBSJULIAN
    @RICKYBUBSJULIAN 7 лет назад +1

    When playing at home you can crank your volume knob and keep the master really low and it gives you a gainy grainy rock tone without need for a pedal. Works well if you're on a tight budget but want to have "pickupability" if you're into a heavier sound. Personally I'm just as happy playing clean, but I thought I'd share.

      i own a blues jr iii and its not a full sounding amp. it was very bright and no bass before the mods and c-rex speaker. my super champ xd with rajun cajun sounded tons better on channel 1 clean. the jr still really doesnt sound that great after the mods. with distortion or tube screamer it sounds decent, but on clean the notes just are not defined or super clear. for $600 there is probably better choices. i would save and get a deluxe reverb. the best clean amp ive ever heard was a twin reverb.

    Reverb Comparison (listening thru apple buds): I found the bass breaker 15's verb had a bit more clarity to it. It allowed you to hear the distinct notes when playing lead with a solid verb trail. The Blues Jr had that classic ol' school verb sound. It sounded like a larger space which is great for ambient tones, but didn't have the same clarity as the bass breaker. Both amps are awesome and choosing one or the other is not any easier :(

  • @rottingoutmehteeth

    You could get gain out of the Blues Jr. by turning the volume up and keeping the master volume down and then using the boost. I have the tweed version and the gain from the amp with a clean boost in front sounds incredible.

    Blues Junior all day. But. it's hard to tell really. I'd rather just see this video as a showcase of Chapman guitars, and playing styles for both participants.
    Remove the limiter / compressor, all the post-processing that was done on the audio for an uncompromising comparison. Turn the amps down a bit, but also keep the tubes heated. We need RAW sound. Personally, I'd go for the Blues Junior and *A LOT* more blues playing. ;D

      @Zach Perry Modern metal amps such as a Peavy 6505, Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and Diezel Herbert are designed to be played with the master volume quite low, since the genre requires a tight tone, which you cannot achieve with a cranked tube amp

    i had to get rid of my 60 watt deville and traded it in for the 007 bassbreaker and the amp rocks harder than the second gain stage on my deville. i do miss reverb, so this 15 is the answer i think for most budget buyers. pedals can add up in cost so someone sitting in an apartment looking for a good fender clean and some good proper gain, get a bassbreaker. you will love it!

  • @FLdb-wj4wc

    When they switch guitars you can hear the bassbreaker isn't as dynamic as the blues jr. The heavy sound of the bassbreaker is really good but the clean and crunch isn't as good as the bluse jr. The bassbreaker is good if you want to shred to a backing track cracked really loud but when you go play in a rock band with real songs Blues Junior kicks its butt and it's frustrating because I have the base breaker. Lol
