Without a doubt Dave is the greatest drummer of all time, with his perfect and exciting beat. I'm even happier to see him playing his original songs. Splendid!!!
Unmatched fluidity and dynamics by any drummer I've ever heard in any genre in my 24 years of playing! You can even remove the music and drumming will be a story for itself, yet it perfectly compliments the music and never feels or sounds contrived or "overplayed". That's why Dave is my number one drummer of all time.🍻
I remember when I heard this song for the first time in the 90s... It still blows my mind and, together with a generation of musicians, we are grateful to you, Dave! Thank you!!! My best regards from Brazil!!!
The man’s a legend, and the Master Plan was my initial intorduction to jazz. In my late teens Dave quickly became one of the top artists on my playlists - and perhaps an unlikely one given that the lists had previously consisted of underground thrash metal bands. I love how Dave’s music opened a whole new musical world to me. Much respect, always loved your playing, still do.
My goodness! Dave, you sound just as good as when you originally played it all those years ago!! One of God's best musicians who just happens to play drums!!!!
Happy to be the 1st comment here - Dave, can't thank you enough - been following you since the mid 80's - IMO you're the best overall drummer in history (technique, feel, groove, versatility, professionalism, body of material) - I'm a pro fusion drummer now because of your influence/style - really appreciate all that you've brought to the music world - continued success & best wishes!
Hi Dave! I've been to concerts where you played with bands like the Elektric Band or the Dave Weckl Acoustic Band, but I've never seen you perform Tower of Inspiration. Even though I've seen you play Tower '99 in some video clips, I've never seen "Tower of Inspiration" you performed. I really appreciate that you uploaded "Tower of Inspiration" that you played. This reminds me of the year 1990 when I bought your first solo CD. Thanks a lot!
He’s taken care of himself and is in great physical shape. He can play at the same level as when this was first recorded in the 80’s, he hasn’t lost a step.
I can only say that Dave Weckle is more sophisticated and amazing, with the same technique and motivation as he got older. I've always liked this song as well. You can't talk about a drummer without knowing Dave's charm. He's my drum mentor in a way. In particular, the fusion of Latin and jazz is attractive.
I remember shedding this song when it came out back in 89? 90? I was a kid in brooklyn, 14 or 15 and decided I had to learn this. I would have killed for a lesson like this back then! Dave became my drum hero. I was a "prodigy" and could play note for note just about anyone but there was something about Dave that blew my mind and still does to this day. I will say it...Dave Weckl is the most musical and dynamic drummer I have ever heard and I studied them all. He is just in a league of his own with his musicality and ability to convey. On top of that he is his influences have brought out the most wonderful sense of rhythm the world has ever heard. Dont misunderstand me, Vinnie and Virgil and Thomas, Chris and Mike and Buddy and Elvin and on and on are all genius's but Dave Weckl is still the most special out of anyone who has ever lived. Chops wise he is very elite, maybe not to Virgil or Chris level but that might just be double bass or music style related I have a hard time thinking Dave couldn't play anything he wants to if he set his mind to it but when I look at overall musicianship, for me Dave Weckl is the greatest drummer to have ever lived.
His timing, phrasing, accents, his wrists, snare tone and anything else you can throw in are impeccable. Simon Philips has been my favorite drummer for years. Weckle now wears the crown..
Simon is no slouch! 🤣 Seriously though I hate "the best drummer" label, just too many talented drummers to exclude if you break them down to one.....Carl Palmer, Neil Peart, Buddy Rich,Max Roach, Billy Cobham....you see what I mean? There's elite drummers and good drummers. I'd say Weckl is in the elite category. 😉
I started playing drums when I was 12 years old. I played along to rock music for a year or two, until our neighbor knocked on the front door one day and said he'd heard me playing - he came with a handful of CD's to give me, one of them was Masterplan. I had no idea who Dave Weckl was and when I first listened to Masterplan, I couldn't believe how drums could sound like that! I was hooked instantly and I've been playing for 30 years now. Dave has always been a big influence for me, and it all started with Masterplan! Thanks Dave!
I heard him playing for the first time with the Chick Corea Elektric Band, and he entered my list of the 10 greatest in the world. I bought VHSs and learned a lot, especially how to play this fast double bass drum. Hugs from Brazil !!!!
Quel batteur que ce Dave Weckl. Je l'ai découvert quand il jouait avec le Chick Corea Electrick Band et il n'a cessé de m'impressionner depuis 25 ans. Merci pour cet excellent jazz fusion. André du Québec, Canada
Absolute MAESTRO! So elegant and powerful at the same time, goosebumps and great fellings, just THANK YOU for let the human race witness how far a man can go if he pushes his talent on the path of evolution.
Me Weckl. This music you play and the way in which you do so demonstrates the versatility and musicality of the drym set. You and a few others at(tempting) your level have demonstrated to the orchestra that drums have not the only destiny of accompanying a large ensemble but can be the leading voice. Do not cease your lecture.
Damn here it is 2024 I wake up from my nap .4:50 am and I find this oh well head set goes on start my day like this but damn he's still at it thanks dude I am long time fan
This guy still has that flare 🔥...I loved this whole album when it came out...and its still one of my favorite songs. If you ever get a chance to see him perform live!❤ do it!! while you can he plays like a machine, his technique is incredible🤯...you will not be disappointed. ALso, my wife treated me to a drumcamp some many years back, Dave and Steve Smith were very nice approachable guys to talk to and share information with unlike, some of the others who were there. So, thanks for the music and inspiration over the years. D.W. 🎶🥁😎 From Philly Redz🥁💖
When I see this master play it reminds me of my old boxing coach who trained since he was 9. He was still training as a coach when he was 59, that’s how old he was when I started training with him. Everything he did from light touches, inside uppercuts, light jabs….all hurt. His full punches were devastating at almost 60. Weckls light touches still ring with a controlled power. This whole video he looks like he’s barely touching the drums but he’s pulling out some great sounds with great intensity. Master Dave
I remember I bought this CD way back in 1990, when I was in the 10th grade, and I was completely blown away by Dave's chops. And I still am today! Love it!!! 🥁
Let me be the first ...to say thank you. For sharing your talent with the rest of us. It is never anything less than an unrivalled pleasure to watch, and listen, to you play.
Dave sets a great example for us older drummers as over his journey of continued improvement in technique he seemingly has eliminated virtually all wasted or exaggerated motion. If you’re young and crazy, you can afford to burn energy as you play, Dave demonstrates the intelligence of an “older pro” that’s gotta play a fast and furious set and do it again the next night.
Finally on RUclips! . Lots of good cover versions available to watch and listen to but I've been waiting to see the master himself performing this track! Absolutely incredible.
Amazing to see the track in real…. How many times I’ve replayed that power speed fill into explosion 🔥🔥 Mr Weckl 💣💣 keep smashin our ears with power, finesse & TRUE Musical Genius.. 🙏
In Mexico we heard this great song at Jazz FM. The guy from the station called Weckl "el baterista fenómeno" or the phenomenon drummer. This song is one of my favorites of all Weckl songs
You were one of the first drummers my old drum tutor gave me lessons about. Your music has been incredibly inspirational to me and it's amazing to see you still going. Keep up the fight.
Thank you Sir!!!!....This song is what turned me on to you back in the day. Its always a joy to hear "Tower"... Its makes me so happy. God bless you and your gift to humanity.
We're truly privileged to get footage of one of the best drummers in history with this amazing quality. It may seem like it's nothing but people used to go to extreme lengths to get just a bit of crappy quality footage from their favorite musician.
One of my favorite Weckl tunes. I auditioned to the University of North Texas big band program with this song, back in the day. Tower 99 was another great version as well. I'm secretly hoping he does a third version at some point! Thanks, Dave, for so much amazing music!
Great playing as always! I remember learning this in my high school fusio band (yes we had a fusion band/teacher) it was really how i got into playing jazz!! Gateway drums
LOVE this! Reminds me of when I started to take drumming more seriously and found out about THIS guy (kind of intimidating to be honest) and his first instructional video, in which he breaks down his grooves and made them accessible (thus improving my OWN drumming). Kudos to Dave!
Dave is one of the absolute greats. You can't compare someone blasting hand/foot rolls at 280bpm with the stuff Weckle did with Chick Corea. Only a few guys can even approach that music.
Brings back memories of studying through the "Back to Basics" VHS tapes, and the "Master Plan" CD, but now with the benefit of 35 years of wisdom under the belt. Always a joy, fuerte el aplauso y gracias!
This dude has been in the zone for decades.
And the same feel and same music for decades!
FACTS!!!
Elite
Dave weckl is the zone.
What a player! Imagine playing in a band and you got *Mr Weckl* in the house...... *absolute business end of town and no mistake!!*
This track is incredible! Dave is the premiere fusion drummer of our era.
That's RITE!
Dave weckl’s playing is always out of this world, once again I’m being left speechless by this monster . IMO the Greatest drummer ever . BRAVO 👏
I saw this at Toads place in 1993.totally changed my life. Thank you and Chick... and Pattituci as well as Frank Gambale. peace .

I've never seen a video of Dave himself performing the original full-length version of this song in 34 years❗️
Thank you upload,Dave Weckl🙏
Same
Same and 1 take 🥁 🔥
Without a doubt Dave is the greatest drummer of all time, with his perfect and exciting beat. I'm even happier to see him playing his original songs. Splendid!!!
OMG. I've listened to this since I was a little kidd . I'm now 44.❤
same dude
I just turned 44. This was the first CD I owned. 😆
finally Dave Weckl plays this piece, visibly!!! it was time!!!!!😊

He sounds even better, and he now plays it completely effortlessly in his 60s. :-)

Because he plays correctly not over exertion.
Falou tudo

He's the best drummer still alive...unbelievable.

So fucking true!
100% agreed. I don't care what other people might say. No one, NO one, beats Dave.
His Darne Jan video is unreal.
😊
One of the first songs I ever heard Weckl play. I became a fan ever since then.

Now and then still Dave Weckle ,my number 1 master in drums. 😊
I heard him playing for the first time with the Chick Corea Elektric Band, and he entered my list of the 10 greatest in the world. I bought VHSs and learned a lot, especially how to play this fast double bass drum. Hugs from Brazil !!!!
I'm so glad to be alive during Dave Weckl's lifetime.
Man, still one of the greatest drummers out there👏🏾
The king of the drums Dave Weckl 👏👏👏👏🤗🤗🙏🙏

Oh hell ya! Tear it up old man! 30 years ago and half your age, we still didn't want to touch that tune. Undeniably still the master Dave!

Listening to the king of modern groove perform live with Jay would be a dream come true.

I grew up listening to this guy! STL Rep'N!
I will become a student of the Dave Weckl Online School. I want to play all of the is music. What an amazing opportunity. Thank's Dave.
Quite arguably the most versatile technician on the planet.
Dave Weckl, my biggest influence ever!
Still a monster decades later.
Of all Dave's tunes this is my best preferred
YOU ARE AN AMAZING DRUMMER ! Funk...rock...soul...jazz...Fusion...latino...YOU CAN PLAY EVERYTHING ! What else ? ;)
one of the cleanest... most in the flow drummers of all time. He never sounds even remotely stiff or sloppy.
This guy still has that flare 🔥...I loved this whole album when it came out...and its still one of my favorite songs. Puede ser uno de los 5 bateristas mejores de todos los tiempos .!!! Sin duda
Sunds like a Masterplan! 😎✨⭐
Incredible, dynamic, solid, flowing, creative, mastered….

This tune is a classic, & {Mr.Weckl🎼👑🥁🎸🎹🎤💿📀🌍}, still can play at the highest levels period.
#KeepGroovin🎼🥁🥁🥁🥁!!!
I got that feeling of awe as if I was hearing it for the first time again when I was 15ish!
Finally on RUclips! . Lots of good cover versions available to watch and listen to but I've been waiting to see the master himself performing this track! Absolutely incredible.
Dave is UNIQUE.
such an enjoyable performance, technically amazing, extremely creative,
complexity, and still feels cloud smooth.
One of the best of all time.
My drum hero! That is one beautiful drum set. That snare sound wow...
Amazing to see the track in real…. How many times I’ve replayed that power speed fill into explosion 🔥🔥 Mr Weckl 💣💣 keep smashin our ears with power, finesse & TRUE

Chapeau. He is so relaxed. So clean. Thx for sharing. Greetings from germany Christoph 🎩 🎩 🎩 🎩 🎩
In Mexico we heard this great song at Jazz FM. The guy from the station called Weckl "el baterista fenómeno" or the phenomenon drummer. This song is one of my favorites of all Weckl songs
Yeah Dave. Love your playing and have for decades.
He's so on balance at all times. I fell off my chair 9 times just watching.
Incrível. Pra mim um dos melhores bateristas do mundo. Sensibilidade, destreza e criatividade juntos em um único ser.
my brother saw this band 15 yrs ago at Ronnie Scotts and to this day its the greatest band he's ever seen , talks about it all the time .
Silky smooth! Wore this out with my drumline buddies in the early 90’s. Hard to believe Dave got even better.
Dave es uno de los mejores percusionistas de Jazz que conozco.
El rey de las sincopas.
You are the biggest idol in my life as a musician, Dave. Respects.
He just flows, the playing is so accurate and I love the way he throws in odd time stuff. 🥁
Some people were born to play drums. Dave is one of those people. 😁🥁😎
You were one of the first drummers my old drum tutor gave me lessons about. Your music has been incredibly inspirational to me and it's amazing to see you still going. Keep up the fight.
I’ve dreamed of learning to play this perfectly for 30 years. I’m now 52. I need to get after it!
Don't give up !
It took me three yrs to get ONE SHOT from Bill Bruford 🤷
C'est la vie ! 😂
Thank you Sir!!!!....This song is what turned me on to you back in the day. Its always a joy to hear "Tower"... Its makes me so happy. God bless you and your gift to humanity.
Wonderful dancing around the 1, suggesting the time signature and accenting the melodies. Powerful stuff!
As always, a pure joy to watch the master at work!
Best drummer on the planet
You inspire me a lot master Dave 👌👌👌
We're truly privileged to get footage of one of the best drummers in history with this amazing quality. It may seem like it's nothing but people used to go to extreme lengths to get just a bit of crappy quality footage from their favorite musician.

Wow wow and wow. Better than ever Dave!!!
Great. I love this kind of groove, just ”floating” in the ground. Steady and floating. Feels like a Young Porcaro around 73.
It’s obvious he’s not the first time behind the drums! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes, way more, I guess.
LOVE this! Reminds me of when I started to take drumming more seriously and found out about THIS guy (kind of intimidating to be honest) and his first instructional video, in which he breaks down his grooves and made them accessible (thus improving my OWN drumming). Kudos to Dave!
It’s so cool to see Dave still on fire !!!! He looks older but is still wheelin and dealin , fully dangerous 🤙
That brought back a lot of memories! Have to listen to Master Plan after a long time! Great album!
What a joy to see you play this incredible song.. What an album this was. What a huge difference it made in my life. Thank you ❤
There are some amazing drummers out there today, but drummers like Dave paved the way and I’ll take this musicality over speed metal drumming any day.
As always, tight and flawless playing by Maestro!
Dear Dave, keep on doing it, the world is in need of True Art (like your drumming 😊)
All Dave's albums in the top of my playlists. Genious drummer! Thank you, Dave!
This was the original gospel chops for all you young bloods out there.
