  • I show some things you can do with a pair of oscillators, such as this clone of Roland's System-100M, specifically the 112 oscillator pair module.

Hi Zoe. I've been experimenting with modular for only two years now (since lockdowns really started). When I found you on Spotify in late 2020, with F-Stop I became fascinated with your deliciously fresh sounds. You've inspired me so much. Spotify has just informed me yiu were my #1 artist of the past year. No surprise there.
I love these educational videos. I had no idea you had these up. I hope they inspire others to play with the foundations of sound.

This is real well explained. And killer animations!

Thanks! I have no idea how to do animations, but it turns out you can just film Reaper's oscilloscope plug-in, increase the contrast on the footage, and overlay it. I'm amazed how well it worked, considering!

Ha, yes, you're the one with the fun name that Doggie liked to say in the filters video! 😄 Cheers!

Keep up the great work. Are you happy with the berhinger product line?

      Thank you!
I think it depends on each individual product. Judging by the original's service notes, for instance, I don't think the 140 envelope generators have the full range of the original, and I suspect there might be a few other minor issues like that... But I love how they shrunk it down to Eurorack size, and combined two modules into the 297. I haven't properly used the original System-100M for a real comparison, though.
The Doepfer A-100 is certainly more versatile, but as someone who wanted a System-100M for a long time, I'm certainly not complaining about an affordable new clone that seems to get you at least most of the way there for what, a fifth of the price?
I absolutely love their VP-330 clone, but again, I haven't used the original for comparison. Though having MIDI certainly helps!
I just wish they'd stick to cloning obsolete equipment, not modern products or even modern clones of other people's.

@@TransistorSounds Thank you for the detailed and honest response. I also have the VP 330 clone and I love it. I am also not impressed with their tactics of cloning gear that is in current production and would not buy it. I moved from hardware synthesizers to eurorack about a year ago. I am still figuring out my core system.
I have enjoyed the clear explanations of your previous videos and look forward more in the future. Thank you for your time.

@@AboveTheTrees00 Well, they can be cheaper because they have a big factory and no real R&D to speak of because they're mass producing clones of other people's designs. Which I'm all in favour of when the things they're cloning are several decades old. It's not so fair when they're cloning other people's clones, or anything else current.
And while it's a shame other companies have higher prices, that's because it's a cottage industry, and the smaller companies often have just a handful of people, sometimes who also have day jobs, designing and even hand building each unit. In the short term, big companies are better for individual customers, but in the long term, those customers won't be able to get good jobs themselves. It's the tragedy of the commons. But that's more about capitalism in general.
And yes, more people using these modules should learn a little music theory and try making something a bit more tuneful if they want to.
