  • Classic car cruising in Sweden is a fascinating mix of beautifully restored vintage American cars and raggare (Swedish "redneck" subculture...?) in their trashed automobiles getting drunk on moonshine and partying. And I love it all!
Here are some of the sights and scenes from a car meet in Ystad, Sweden organized by the Yankee Car Club in Skåne.
Amerikanska bilar och cruising i Ystad, Sverige, häftiga raggarbilar och coola pilsnerbilar och trevliga människor.

I’m American, born and raised in Virginia or the south east. I’ve built my fair share of cars, including a 1970 Cadillac that was slammed on cragar s/s and white walls. The absolute thrashed cars that are slammed is def super cool. It’s a different take on American classic cars and the fact that they actually cruise them, use them, and abuse them is incredible. It’s nice to see another country enjoying and respecting our culture and heritage. Keep on rollin out there boys.

idk if it's respect towards the car. They just destroy them because they are cheap junk cars that no one cares about, and they're so old they have no yearly inspection anymore. Just pure shit boxes that you destroy as much as you want and there are no consequences since the inspection won't say anything about it.

I see now that most of these cars are in a good and decent condition. Those cars are what the swedes are supportive of. Big old classics that are tended for and treated like someone's child.
The super slammed ones are part of the new generation of "raggare" who have no respect for the cars and their interests arent in driving cars, it's in drinking cheap beer while being obnoxious blasting shitty music.

Fun video - sort of like American classic/custom cruise nights during warm months. U.S. teens in the 60s listened to British bands on the radio while cruising after school in sharp looking, fast Chevy Impalas and Pontiac GTO's. It was the best of both worlds. As an American musician who is also a 50s-60s era U.S. car afficionado, I should comment that no U.S. teen in the 60's ever bought, or cared to be seen in, a 4 door car. Four door cars were Mom and Dad's stodgy old family sedans. The young generation bought 2 door "coupes" for that fast, stylish look. Thanks for the nifty video.

Love the video and the "outside looking in" perspektive. Very well made. As a native swede who grew up during the late sixties thru seventies i can remember seeing and in the 80´s participating in this kind of street life taking place every friday and saturday night (and a bit on wednesdays too at least in the summer). This kind of fun started to fade a bit with the 90´s financial crisis and council politicians across the land had since around 1980 been doing what they could to restrain this behaviour by blocking off streets from automotive traffic. Around the towns in my area it´s by now down to a few nights every summer due to sky rocketing fuel prices and then mostly organized and under surveillance from cops although not on horseback. The surviving old guys who where part-taking when it all started back around 1960 has told me that it was a whole different game back then, the stories they could tell makes this look like "live-re-enacting"...X-D Anyway, always good to see people having a good time as long as nobody gets hurt. Btw most classic yankee cars are well kept ,and most owners are very serious about that even though many likes to ride shotgun with a beer in hand on nights like these, i´d say the beat-up clunkers are less than five percent. And back in the day four-doors wasn´t widely accepted by anyone, those where mainly used-up taxicabs or laid-off staff cars from local industries that ran their final years as just these beat-up "raggare" cars. Most of those are long since rusted out and gone so today even those are later-day imports from the USA but many two-doors still around where imported during the 70´s oil crisis years when they dropped in value, lucky for us.

Hey Woody, this is SO unusual for your channel ! As a pro keyboardist since the 70ies, and lover of classic American cars..........I just don't know what to say. From those magnificent horses, to adult beverages in 'ratty' Ford and GM cars....the music mix, the camaraderie and fun. So surreal in many ways for me.
I am currently about to put my 1997 Taurus SHO back into the cruise night/car show scene after being in storage since 2003. It is 25 years old now and by the standards set in my state, a collectable auto/antique! There are very few of them left these days, and rarely, if at all, seen on the road! The condition is that of a 2 year old used car, needs nothing. Just the old fuel needing to be changed out, appraised, insured, registered, inspected and good to go.

O M G...such sweetness of classic cars. Ahhhh,,,sigh, brings me back to my days owning muscle cars like my 1970 Challenger 340, and 67 Coronet RT with a 440 magnum. The bull horn car was hilarious but the dildo man....wtf? hahaha. He was offering a "woody" for Woody! bahh hahaha. And then there was the "Titty Patrol car" lmao. I must say, some of these cars are restored absolutely beautifully while most of the others are in, shall I say, raw form. Who would of thought Sweden would be housing such an incredible variety of classic sought out cars? Truly, some sweet rides were shown.
Is this an annual car show event Woody? Before I had changed trades and went back to school to study for psychology to become a mental health worker, I was a bodyman and custom painter for years in my younger days. So this video is one hell of a treat to see all these priceless dreams go by and to reminisce on such great memories again. And as per usual of Sweden, the ladies are the fairest and the sweetest. That's one thing that is crazy to me as a Swede, why you can't do that in most parts of the US. If the driver don't drink, what's the problem? We have this once a year in my city here in Sweden and it's a city ordinance that you can't drink in public in the middle of the city. But during this day the police enforce it. They don't write tickets for doing stuff you usually would get a ticket for. Like if you are riding on the roof of a car, they would just tell you to get down. And if you would refuse, then you would probably get a fine.
