As a finnish raggar and an ex-member of Åbo Raggare i can proudly say that when i take out my "raggarbil", i drive slowly on purpose even though my car is mostly(🤣) functional, and not an EPA-tractor 🤣
Also, everything said in this video is true. We are loud, annoying, and we do it on purpose! 😂 At least in Finland Raggare are a combination of a punkrocker and a greaser, but everyone has their own personal style and taste in music so we are very hard to categorize 😅

Epa was originally the name of a discount department store chain and was an abbreviation of Enhets Pris Aktiebolaget. And when the word Epa was associated with cheap, the cars that were converted into cheap tractors began to be called Epa tractors. The formal name of these converted cars is a-tractor.

As an American, "Grease" is Broadway, Rogers and Hammerstein. When foreign people tell us Americans what they love about America, we think they are talking about their own culture, not ours. If you think about the Fallout series, we have no bunkers. We do not hide under tables. It is very interesting to see your world through a different lens

EPA is abbreviation for( Enhetsprisaktiebolaget) the company of unit price.
A department store chain that stood for low prices in Sweden, Norway and Denmarka
In Swedish terminology, an EPA tractor is an older passenger car, sometimes also a truck, that has been converted into an agricultural machine.
In the 50s and 60s, these started to be used by young people because they sat unused on the farm when the parents bought real tractors.
Because the young people did not have a driver's license could drive these when they turned 15 since it was a tractor.
It is still a small exception in Swedish traffic and the rules change, but the principle is that it can only be driven at 30km/hour.
Raggare is an old name for someone who parties and seeks sexual contact with someone

I would say that the ones you see driving shiny well-polished American cars are the original raggare, who started out as raggare in the 60s, 70s and 80s but who today have retained their interest in cars, many of the cars you see have been imported to Sweden as wreck and has since been renovated to mint condition in Sweden, most 50s Americans you see were not in Sweden in the 50s 😂

Im an old Raggare from Sweden.. The old school of us. You got couple things switched around.. The youth aka epa drivers is by "us" only conciderd as teens whith an intrest in cars.. When i joind in a carclub aka raggarclub way back in the day it was as a prospect.I had to ern my west and paches. Nothing illegal doh as it often is in mc-gangs. Raggar from the old days only listen to rock n roll both new and old from the 50´s until today. Yes we where fearsome and fought alot- mostly against "punkers". In the late 80´s to the middle of the 90`s a truth was called upon, and the fighting kind of stoped. We do/are rebels aginst serten things in the goverment. Moste of us was middle to low class "blue collor" workers that just wanted to have fun, Dance and party and hook up whith birds. (girls) And if you ever listen to rock n roll, i mean listen to the texts, its mostly about love. The middle generation thats is commonly known as "gen-Z" today dunno what hard work is. We worked hard back in the days and let loose on the weekends. We had no regrets, no hate, no psykological difficultys (it was not invented back then) Today if you ask a genZ to do something that is hard, he probbly needs a manicure and psycolog to talk to. Not all, but hell of alot of them. Theres a diffrence in where in Sweden you are what a raggare is today.. I moved to Dalarna about 20 years ago...and here they listen to old folks dancemusic or rap or something that sounds like machinguns on steroids whith added base. All computer made whith no love in the music. Its awful if one would ask me. ****sorry for my spelling, eng in school was about 40 years ago*****

@@itssticoas a "raggare" from late 90's... The flag is used in non racial means, sure some might use it in that way but mainly only used too show people that they are raggare/rebels, which is kinda the same to.
I have one in my bedroom, garage and in or on my car, it's just used for non racial use. Also used too provoke people, we like messin' with people. Screaming gender words, showing our asses, loud music, wild parties and annoying people whilst they sleep.
"Raggarkulturen" is ment for every working man or women, don't matter your sexual prefernces or skin colour, all you have too be is not easily offended because some strongs words are used.
But I can say without hesitation that 95% of all Swedish "raggare" and countries around Sweden that's also has raggare who comes too sweden for cruisings and party? They are very friendly with bad word choices.

They're mostly good kids, I didn't see them as much in Norway where I grew up, and I've lived in America, Denmark and now Sweden - and I can def. say it's mostly a Swedish phenomena. You're for the most part right, but they're NOT as tough as they might come off as, they are perfectly normal Swedes for the most, and they're a bit more social than most too - if you're a person that is open minded, it's not unusual for them to invite you in to their environment or circle to take you out to party with them (and they are heavy party goers I can tell you that much).
Many of them like to mess around with cars, if you get a friend there - you'll have a pretty decent automechanic that can help you fix or buy your next cars, even if what they drive is what they can afford they usually have extensive knowledge of your average combustion engine (and how to modify them). Also in Skaane county there's an extended sub-culture where Greasers music also is prevalent in their groups, like Rockabilly etc.
Yes, it's a lifestyle - and many of them will live totally regular lives, I don't know anyone of the ones that I know that are prison-guards, but I do know they have regular jobs, some even white-collar jobs but toss their office-attire away when they come home and live the "raggare" lifestyle just to feel comfortable. You say anti-establishement... not sure I agree completely about that as most of the ones I know (and I live in an americanized raggare type of town) are pretty law abiding citizens, but you could say they don't take themselves so seriously - but I've never seen anyone rebel against laws or police, in fact they're pretty well liked by the Police around here. And it gives the kids out on the countryside something to do, someone to hang with without doing anything really illegal.

    • @itsstico
      @itsstico  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the additional information.
When I said anti establishment. I don't mean law breaking. I just mean that they don't like government. You can tell by there jokes and what they call the police. But that doesn't mean criminal.
Otherwise I completely agree with you.

There was a car you had in the video with "mid-century German" iconography (I don't want to say the word as it might get banned). I was wondering if that is a one-off or there is a common following or maybe it's just something that doesn't translate well... or maybe something else? Just like the stole the Swastika from Buddhism so they are not using any Nazi symbol. I do agree to what others said about the rebel flag, I don´t think they should use it.

I will disagree on one point.
    Electric cars.
It is not at all out of character for a raggare to have an EV as their daily driver.
The old beat up car for cruising. Well, I guess you can think of it as cosplay. It's costume for when having a good time on the weekend.
Weekdays most of them, they're as boring normal people as anyone else. Driving just a normal vehicle with sensible fuel economy which may well be electric these days.
