  • In this video I install a new quick charging USB port in an otherwise unused blank plug location in my 2021 RAV4 LE.
    We have the connectivity package but wanted another USB up front and we think filling in the blank location looks better.
    We hope you find this video useful and if you have any questions or comments let us know.

    I've watched a few on this installation and yours appears to be the quickest and easiest. Thank you !

    Thank you for the video. I just did this on my RAV4 and I found that the switch plug came out much easier from the middle of the left side.

    I followed your video and instructions and it was easy. Fitted and working after 5 minutes. Tricky part was threading wire behind dash - but again after a few gentle attempts it all went easily. Very happy and now that blank switch is active and useful. Thanks and send a link if you have any more future updates for RAV4.

    DISABLE THE BLUE LED! if you pull the thinner looped red wire pin from the connector and heat shrink tube it to prevent short circuits. Then move the other pin with the thicker red wire to where the looped single red wire was, You will then have this usb charging port working without the blue led being on.

      How do you wire it to stay on? If I have to let a device charge I have to leave it running AND unlocked and I really don't like that.

    • @installsandpitfalls
      @installsandpitfalls  5 месяцев назад

      I haven't looked into doing that, I'm sure there are constant 12v wires or fuses that you could tap. But I'd be nervous about having a parasitic draw if you left something plugged in and forgot about it.

      @@installsandpitfalls I'm more nervous about not having a dash cam going 24/7 to be honest, I have a garage but it still has to sit outside at work,

    • @installsandpitfalls

      Ah, that makes sense, I'm sure there's a constant 12v hot fuse you could tap into. If you don't have a test light, they're pretty awesome for lots of stuff.

    Planning to put this on my 22 XSE. Will this void warranty or harm the hybrid battery?

    • @installsandpitfalls
      @installsandpitfalls  Год назад

      I wouldn't think so, but I'm not 100% sure. It just splits the power using the jump connector. It might be a good idea to call the dealership just in case.

    Is that powered all the time or only when the key is on?

    • @installsandpitfalls
      @installsandpitfalls  Год назад

      Yeah that would be great. You could probably splice into a constant power, but use a inline fuse if you go that route, just in case 👌🏻

    • @condor5635
      @condor5635 Год назад +1

      Yeah, I see a lot of these videos and think why don’t they power at all the time? I ran an in-line fuse, line to my center consul USB outlets so that they have power all the time. Took about 45 minutes but very easy to do. Just use one of these. Tap into the fuse box above your left foot under the dash. Tap into the radio fuse which is a 15 amp and is powered all the time. Use a five amp for this part and some 16 gauge wire and you should be good to go. Can use the same thing to power the cigarette lighter all the time. ‘EPAuto 12V Car Add-a-circuit Fuse TAP Adapter Mini ATM APM Blade Fuse Holder’. An iPhone X charging takes about 8/10 of an amp so your car battery will run that for a long time with no issue.
