@@beepboop5491I don’t care about her color but I was confused by the video. When they described the characters differences the descriptions were the same. Sometimes a show based on a book that is basically European folklore from the 14th-15th century may require characters that are European in appearance if the author intended it to be that way.
While the actress who plays her is beautiful, it's diversity done wrong. The game version was better representing the inspiration for the fantasy. And how often does a Polish fantasy get representation? An African-based/inspired fantasy would never have had a problem accurately representing it's characters.
Diversity gone wrong how? Absolutely nobody cares about the heritage of the characters and the actress looks white. You're a weird racist crybaby and I doubt they had any better actresses lined up considering shes the reason MANY of us gave the show a chance despite finding the books horribly tedious in a predictable male author way

For me, Anya was perfect for the role. Acting and her looks was superb. Dont care what Yennefer game version obviously is a fictional character literally! Anya's look and performance in Netflix was the opposite.
@@kckasem3360 Its not the writing its the actress. Yennefer in the games matches almost picture perfect to how you imagine her from the books. Beauty, strength, power, confidence, remains stoic and is a bombshell when she speaks. The actress in the series comes off as having self-esteem issues, weak, wanting rather than commanding. Comes off as an naive child even though her character is already I think 100 or something in the timeline of the series on Netflix. This actress is a child pretending to be a woman compared to Yenn...even a fictional character has more consistency in books, comics, cartoons, and games than the casting IRL which is miles away from good casting in several roles.
I think her look is fine as we are not yet to the events of the Witcher 3 where she is clearly older and more mature. I also think Anya adds much more depth because Yennefer wasn’t always so graceful and charming as she appears in the game. She went through a lot to get to that point an I think Anya’s look and feel portrays that well at this point
I dont like that she acts like a teenager. But problem is. She is supposed to be 100+ years old. Even a bit older than Geralt... But she looks very young. Like a Ciris sister.
@@lauris5275that’s exactly how I feel when I see Yen and Ciri together on Netflix show. Sometimes it seems Ciri is older than Yen. Anya os a good actress, but I can’t see her as Yen and bothers me so much, cuz I really wanted to enjoy the show 😢
@@lauris5275I think the problem there is that they stopped trying to make Freya Allan look younger. I absolutely find her stunning. Blown away type stunning. I agree with the other comment saying beauty is subjective because I’m so baffled some others don’t see this, or have a lot to say against it
She´s pretty, not a Miss Universe gorgeous kind of girl but many don´t know the books describe her like that, pretty, certainly pretty enough to turn a lot of eyes when she´s around but nowhere a great beauty. And many got to know her from the games where the actress they used and the rendering really made her extremely beautiful. Netflix Triss on the other hand has nothing to do with the books or game, like they couldn´t or , more likely, wouldn´t find a cute readhead for the role
I didn’t mind her as Yennifer. I think she is very beautiful and convincing as an actress. I liked the first season. Sad that the writers have let everyone down once again.
Yennefer shouldn't be TOO beautiful among other things (read the first book) but it really seems the video game is much more cannon than the books has been years.
IMO Anya's look does not fit Yennefer's. I always imagined Yennefer as a 'corpo bitch' kind of woman who could survive just anything (and she did, in the books). More like Lara Croft who casts spells. Anya looks too soft. Besides that the whole show is more like a fanfic than adaptation. A fanfic that is faaaar below expectations.
It's not a matter of age, but of demeanor. Yen should have a commanding presence that the Netflix series actress, despite being quite good at her performing job, simply has not
I think Anya is gorgeous, granted she looks different from the game. It wasn't until the 3rd season that I figured out the redhead hippy girl was supposed to be triss, I haven't played the game but have seen Triss from it and the show version is unrecognizable.
Not sure if this is a slight at Anya's beauty or a complaint that she has slightly brown skin. As long as the actress who plays the character has black hair and violet eyes, you've got the character's appearance covered. There's a difference between picking an ethnic actress to be "woke" and realizing that skin color doesn't really matter in a completely fabricated fantasy world.
The source material is by a Polish author utilizing Slavic myth. Ethnic diversity probably (and understandably) never crossed his mind. Trying to adapt his stories into live action with a diverse cast was, unfortunately and regrettably, a mistake. The reality is it had the misfortune of being adapted a generation too late. On the other hand, Anya Cholatra is fucking beautiful--worthy of the beauty Yennifer is supposed to be, but miscast considering the source material.
There are black people in his books but in Zerikania. Sapkowski did diversity well. Even white people can be diverse there are many cultures in Europe. Countries have different regions wirh different folk costumes and customs.
In they video game Yennifer is Slavic/ East European as she is supposed to be in accordance with the world she lives in. Critiquing the bad casting choice has nothing to do with „racism“.
Book yennifer too. Since this is polish and through that extend slavic folk lore based fantasy. You would never see a white dude or girl act in a African mythology based fantasy playing any role. Why? Its diversity done wrong. But it is more then that. There is also certain personality traits and behavial patterns the showrunners changed from the books. Wich change this version from her source counterpart.
tbh i prefer the actress. She looks so beautiful and wears her facial features so well for a powerfull sorceress. Her outfits are a 10/10, shes not complete eyecandy like the game version yet still beautiful and powerful. So are the other actresses. The only mistake is the make up on ciris actress, its too obvious.
Hmm i think she is pretty but lacks in the dominant appearence. She should be beautiful yet intimidating. When i am totally close to the books, i would say Cat Dennings would be a good actress. But i think the diverse actors really doesn't hurt because they considerd all families and relatives when going for not white.
In the books Yen also has a sharper face and longer nose I think. And I think she was more pale too and her hair war curly and more messy if I remember it right (or more ‚witchy‘ if I can say it like that)
I actually think that they casted the show pretty spectacularly. Cavill was a perfect Witcher, Jennifer was very close, and Ciri was accurate too. Just the directors butchered the story.
I haven't read the books. But I found Yennefer perfectly cast. As a character she was the best in S1 and there are certain flaws in S2, S3. But that's more of a writing fault. I think the actor did a great job portraying the role. She is incredible with her expressions.
Anya is beautiful indeed... but in the books Yen has a cold, freezing type of beauty, commending fear and respect... Anya is more of the sympathetic kind of beauty, while in the games we trully feel that mosterious, dark, freezing cold nature of the Book's Yenner a lot more
Sympathetic beauty?! I say you don't read looks, body language and tone of voice really well. Although she didn't seem cold and calculating, Anya was powerful and fiery and didn't feel "sympathetic" at all
Anya pretty much looks like the younger version of the games/books, she does have a very youthful appearance in contrast to them tho for sure, but she deff plays the character so well
“Closer match” is an understatement. The Netflix series ruined her character arc just like they did Dandelion. They turned the womanizing bard gay with a character who’s only like 6 in the books at the time smdh MAKES NO SENSE
The show’s version of Jaskier has always seemed kind of bi tbh. Yes yes, he’s a womanizer in the books but IMO the “I’d sleep with anyone”-attitude goes well with the personality of both book and show Jaskier 🤷🏻♀️ the choice of Radovid was a bit odd though lol
Actually, they got Yen pretty spot on. Who we should really be talking about it Triss. They completely RUINED Triss in the series along with Keira Metz and Margarita. This is what happens when shows go woke and disrespect the source material.
Yes! Like what the heck happened with the time of Keira!? Couldn’t they at least make her some sort of blonde. I don’t think they’re even trying anymore imo
triss was alright yen was good but jaskiers relationship with ravidod was completly disgusting. in the books jaskier is a ladys man and got so many girlfriends or people he cheats with. i can see why henry wanted to leave the show.
When I played the game before the series was released, I thought eva green would've played yennefer perfectly, not to take away from chalotra's performance
Anya did a great job... She is skilled and very talented And because of that she kept the audience and fans tight... Or else everyone knows how people react when the character doesn't fit to the description of the book story
I’d agree with Eva Green or Catherine Zeta Jones when she was young. This actress might not be bad looking, but the vibe and temperament is just completely off. She also lacks elegance and aura. She’s also too young, feels more like Ciri’s sister… I’d think anyone into the books or the games would instantly find her NOT Yennifer.
am I the only one thinks Krysten Ritter would be a great casting in terms of similar physical features with Yen(both for game and books). So they could've prevent unheard-of bad reactions for cast
What other changes have you noticed them make from the books and games?
Maybe you should have been more explicit about what she looks like in the books cos I'm not quite sure what the issue is here...

Addressing the beauty and colour of the actress comments, I’m pretty sure my last bit was clear enough so I’ll refer you back to that.
Anyway, everyone who disagrees with me is clearly wrong and I am clearly right. Fact.
The girl from the show is absolutely gorgeous! When she went to the party with her new dress, I was awestruck
Desceiption for both show and game Yennefer: Long black hair. Violet eyes. Black and white attire. So what's the problem? 😂
As a avid fan of the books I like her. But I don’t love her. Yen is way more idk… confident in the books
@@Artyom125 probably better casting since the appearance would be spot on. Performance wise Hugh is perfect but he's like a foot taller than that character he's playing, like how Henry is perfect performance wise but way more jacked than Geralt is supposed to be.
difference in the show is... she isn't white... Looper couldn't straight up say so though classic dog whistle
@@LoFiAxolotlAh, so you’re mad that a woman who’s a bit more tan (not even many shades darker) is playing the characters role?
The writers didn’t care for Yennefer’s actual character, but Anya still looks close to the game Yen- just looks like she’d been in the sun
@@beepboop5491I don’t care about her color but I was confused by the video. When they described the characters differences the descriptions were the same. Long black curly hair, eye color, and wearing black and white. One “appears” older was the only difference. So what were they actually referring to.
I always thought the actor Just looks too young and fragile
She is supposed to look around 20 according to the books with a pale and triangular face according to the book.
Sometimes a show based on a book that is basically European folklore from the 14th-15th century may require characters that are European in appearance if the author intended it to be that way.
Anya is an excellent choice for Yennefer.
The writers on the show however, didn't know what to do with the series.
You're a weird racist crybaby and I doubt they had any better actresses lined up considering shes the reason MANY of us gave the show a chance despite finding the books horribly tedious in a predictable male author way
Also not you saying a whit3 actress was diversity gone wrong 😂 You want white approval so badly its embarassing. Would you bark if a blonde person asks you to? You're like the chinese weirdos crying about Rachel Zegler 😂 Mad that tan white people have what you want soooo desperately? White approval?
The actress is average at best, lets not get crazy here
@@blakbear6528 fuck no. AT BEST she is a 4. Below average. AT BEST!
@@blakbear6528 u cap asf
For me, Anya was perfect for the role. Acting and her looks was superb. Dont care what Yennefer game version obviously is a fictional character literally! Anya's look and performance in Netflix was the opposite.
She has a totally different personnality, and that's the worse point here.
@@Steak818 Sure, but that's largely the writing, not the actor. I see most people complaining about her looks, which is just stupid imo.
Not perfect, just passable.

Thx universe the blasphemy end

The game version is way way better
Not to the same extent as Trish Merrigold though!
No
@@WolfetoneRebel1916 triss is so damn fine
Um, obviously??😅
Exactly
I think she is perfect as yen!!
ANYA DOES IT PERFECTLY
Everything in the game is more accurate then the show. If it wasn’t called the Witcher I probably wouldn’t have known it was based on the books
Yes, but she is the Witcher in the Netflix show, and Geralt is just a minor sidekick.
She looked great in season one, so young with the bleached brows and minimal makeup (although weird contacts) but after that she looks much older and has to much makeup. It’s not realistic for her to have that much makeup, in that day and age and those situations. I know, I know it’s a fantasy show but still 😂
Henry Cavill left because Netflix were rewriting the stories like episodes of "Love, Simon"
I love how they skirt the actual obvious difference without addressing it directly. nothing wrong with Anya btw she's doing great.
The actress in the show is a very beautiful woman. She’s super cool too…y’all are crazy
Anya Chalotra is absolutely gorgeous as Yennifer. See her with her hair up and with her lace mask is breathtaking.
They should've made the Netflix series in 3d and closer to the books.
I actually like Anya. She stands out and is really unique.
She is also whiter (pale).
An old ancient beauty tradition, within Elvish folklore, said to to be pale as white as snow.
The girl from Netflix is super hot IMO and has done a great job as Yen.
Still bad casting. Her indian looks simply can't fit in there. Ever.
"Super hot"??? Lol
@@ThePlatinumVaultdid they stutter?
@@ThePlatinumVault Yes, super hot. Way way WAY out of your league.
You have seriously low standards.
In the Netflix series. The only character that I fell in love with would be Queen Calanthe. Jodhi May is a fabulous actress.
she is not a mage, is a sorceress
All that and you didn't actually say the main difference, Yennefer is supposed to be white.
It's not a matter of age, but of demeanor. Yen should have a commanding presence that the Netflix series actress, despite being quite good at her performing job, simply has not
DUDE THAT REBORN SCENE GOT ME BONED FOR HOURS MAN.
I think Anya is gorgeous, granted she looks different from the game. It wasn't until the 3rd season that I figured out the redhead hippy girl was supposed to be triss, I haven't played the game but have seen Triss from it and the show version is unrecognizable.
Kate Beckinsale was my casting choice for Yennefer.
Fight me!
For me Vanhesling (2004) Kate is Yennefer. Now she's a bit too old.
Eva Green
Kate has to doll-like face for Yen
Naw, her nose is not “slightly too long”, in the contrary. Absolutely not like yen is described in the books
@@lalicorne0987 it is how Geralt described her in books
“What Yennifer should really look like…”
Me watching this: “yeah, they got pretty dang close here (shrug)”
Only CD Projekt Red makes good Witcher content nowadays. They made comics about Geralt of Rivia and manga Witcher Ronin
I always pictured Yennefer as Eva Green. It’s a shame she wasn’t cast-she would have been perfect.
You forgot the most important thing, WHY IS SHE TONED IN THE SERIES?
Don't judge a book by it's cover.
Anaya acted well in Witcher
She is perfect....people need to relax
Eva Green is a perfect actor to play Yeniffer. I’m sure a lot of people would agree.
But Anya sure match Yenniffer’s beauty. That’s for damn sure.
I think anya played her role perfectly
Not sure if this is a slight at Anya's beauty or a complaint that she has slightly brown skin. As long as the actress who plays the character has black hair and violet eyes, you've got the character's appearance covered.
There's a difference between picking an ethnic actress to be "woke" and realizing that skin color doesn't really matter in a completely fabricated fantasy world.
I personally think she is too young and would have liked an older woman. But she does a great job.
The witcher has a guy named Azar Javed a black or brown mage.
There are black people in his books but in Zerikania. Sapkowski did diversity well. Even white people can be diverse there are many cultures in Europe. Countries have different regions wirh different folk costumes and customs.
Yennefer in the game gives me Megan Fox vibes. I feel like Fox would have been a great cast.
I love her, she's perfect for the role same as Henry as Geralt. But unfortunately been replaced by Liam for dat role. Shouldn't be replaced tho hmmm
She doesn't know how to act period.
@@arthurmelander6224 R u the director? Nah nope... She got dat role coz she's good for dat role.
In they video game Yennifer is Slavic/ East European as she is supposed to be in accordance with the world she lives in. Critiquing the bad casting choice has nothing to do with „racism“.
Ahhhhh, the game yennifer is WHITE, why didn’t you mention that as well……😂
Book yennifer too.
She's one of the better casting choices in the series, she's not exactly as I imagined her but she's definitely close to the book descriptions
tbh i prefer the actress. She looks so beautiful and wears her facial features so well for a powerfull sorceress. Her outfits are a 10/10, shes not complete eyecandy like the game version yet still beautiful and powerful. So are the other actresses. The only mistake is the make up on ciris actress, its too obvious.
The comments on this short taught me that Anya's only half white. Honestly never even guessed but I do see it now. Wild.
Hmm i think she is pretty but lacks in the dominant appearence. She should be beautiful yet intimidating. When i am totally close to the books, i would say Cat Dennings would be a good actress. But i think the diverse actors really doesn't hurt because they considerd all families and relatives when going for not white.
I love Yennefer from Netflix more than the game version!
I bet a lot of gamers just had a heart attack from reading that
In the books Yen also has a sharper face and longer nose I think.
It's Yennefer.
@@Isus24-s8e I don't check every comment I type for autocorrect, sorry.
I don’t understand why this video needed to be made. She looks close enough to the character in the video game.
You know who would be Perfect as Yennefer? Eva Green ✨
Just give Eva Green a pair of violet contacts and we're good.
I haven't read the books. But I found Yennefer perfectly cast. As a character she was the best in S1 and there are certain flaws in S2, S3. But that's more of a writing fault. I think the actor did a great job portraying the role. She is incredible with her expressions.
I must be color blind cause l DID NOT notice the white vs colored person casting 😂😂
The actress is gorgeous imo
At this point im glad Netflix stll keep Roach as a horse.
I think she fit the role of yennifer perfectly
I had no idea Yen was part Elf or used to have a twisted spine until I watched the Netflix series.
In don't care. She's gorgeous and fantastic!
Anya could be a perfect Triss 😅
So, they’re mad that they used an actress of Indian ancestry to play Yen? I think she’s pretty good in the role.
Look, they are different but I just adore Anya in the role. Different beauties can be appreciated.
I don’t see dark curls
The only thing failing Anya and Yen this season were those wigs.
I thought. Eva green would of been a perfect yennifer
I really like the actress they chose.
I'd have preferred they had stuck to book Yen instead of "changing" things because Netflix "creative license".
Actually her father is British Indian
anyone who's been 5 minutes is automatically British nowadays
Another thing to note about game yenefer I've noticed is that one shoulder is slightly higher than the other like geralt would point out in book.
Sorry, you’re saying the difference is how the hair is styled?
Now do Triss... lmfao
