The name Maru bhajia became popular in Kenya as it was sold in a eatery by a Maru family and this was their recipe. This Maru family then moved to the UK and as far as I know they still sell this bhajias in Wembley named as original Maru bhajia. It has nothing to do with water in the batter. I know this as I am from Kenya, living in Nairobi and this bhajias are very popular and a must snack at our homes and community gatherings.
Although a chutney served with this bhajias is different than which you showed, yours too seems delicious.

      You are correct.
I live 10mins drive from the London Wembley Maru's Bhajias House, and this recipe is different.
I probably eat there at least once a month, for the last few decades 😳
LOVE Bhavna's recipes and RUclips channel though !!

Yes. The Maru's left Kenya but the bhajia's are famous among all including local Kenyan people. . Chutney is bit different than the original one .

Thank you for the recipe. I left Kenya 30 years ago, and miss the bojias. i used to eat them at a restaurant across from the Koja mosque in Nairobi. They used to put the plain tamarine chili sause on top of the bojias. i used to also get a glass of passion fruit juice. i went back to Kenya 15 years ago and the restaurant was still there with the same odd chairs. Nothing had changed it was exactly as when i remember growing up. They were always busy, so they did good business. i thought they would use some of the money to beautify the place. But no, it was exactly the same table and chairs for 50 years! 😅

Wow. M S settled in Nairobi. You can get best maru bhajia in Nairobi only because of quality of potatoes.
It is the taste to develope as they are different from our regular bataka bhajia.
    👌👌
Make please kenyan style dry garlic chip aka french fries.
