      Another thing he said was that it was average theming to a cedar fair roller coaster. Which makes 0 sense bc cedar fair was putting basically no theming in their newer coasters. YS and Copperhead are thee best themed rollercoasters that cedar fair has done. Steel vengeance doesn’t have a lot of theming, hangtime has no theming and railblazer has some rock work. But for Yukon it has theming in the area a really nice looking station, 2 underground tunnels and a storyline so like wth??

    Imo dive coasters should always be heavily heavily themed, almost like a dark ride. Oblivion was the first one and has classic Alton towers theming to genuinely make you terrified of the drop, and with baron at efteling you really get immersed. They are one trick ponies but they are designed to be like that.

    Been on this twice front row. And as a coaster enthusiast.. I agree the vest is a tad tight. It's actually expandable rubber. Something I've never experienced on a coaster. And bucket seats that you sink into. Then an airplane style safety buckle.
    It really is an awesome ride!! First time riding it feels like your very first coaster. Butterflies and all. First drop is breathtaking. So smooth and fast.. Enjoy!!

    As someone who has ridden Yukon Striker 17 times (7 times on "First Rider" day) your criticisms of the med course brake run might need an update. The last 3 rides for me on June 25th, I noticed that they barely brake and the second half seems to be faster. I think that as they learned about the ride and keeping the lines flowing, they have learned how they can improve that mid course brake run experience.

  • @visionist7
    @visionist7 5 лет назад +12

    Oblivion's tunnel is obviously on a whole other level. The whole ride is themed around it

    • @shinydavidhowell
      @shinydavidhowell 5 лет назад +4

      Heck, the whole ride concept was probably built around it. Remember, Alton Towers has the major planning restrictions around it, notably the inability to build above 25m (82'), and so the massive tunnel was needed to get to any kind of speed. Notably, the (mirrored) clone in Taiwan of the same ride is way above the ground apart from the drop.

  • @OklahomaCoasterFan

    I just rode this today. I enjoy dive coasters more than most enthusiasts do. Easily the best dive coaster! One thing you might be missing in regards to the vests. They are super comfortable for people who aren't tall. Plus, we still get airtime with them, plus we get a guarantee of no headbanging. We love the vests. That's why Valravn sometimes has longer lines than Steel Vengeance. Because the vest restraints are very popular. Yukon Striker would be an awful headbanger with those restraints that put rock-hard bars next to our head. But with the vests, it's no problem. SheiKra is fine with the old restraints, because it isn't very aggressive. Griffon is borderline; I get headbanging. Valravn & Yukon need the vests to eliminate headbanging.

    • @AdrenalineLegends

      yes, I love dive coasters. This is the best dive machine, but not by far. I think dr diabolical or griffon or even valravn comes close, but yukon barely beats them out since those other ones are like BREAK right after the stop

This is a well designed dive coaster. Let's enjoy it and hope more modern designs takes place. If a new dive comes out with more inversions or elements that are unique to itself, do it! TTD is amazing so is KDK. Keep creating. The limit is only limited to what we have decided is the limit.

      Noah Verhoff I haven't ridden Valravn since 2016, as it didn't impress me all that much (so many better rides I could do instead, including the old woodie next door that never has a line). That said, my dad rode it when I went for Steel Vengence, he complained about a rattle. You might say that my dad is GP, and that's very true. I also heard the same complaint from several coaster friends when I did Coaster Con a month later. We were talking about it because we all preferred Griffon to some degree (with me it was hangtime on the drop being possible with different restraints and the tunnel. Others in my group told me if I thought Banshee was rough, Valravn has gotten a rattle even more noticible).

    • @David-gj9qr

    You prefer this tunnel over Oblivion's @ Alton Towers? Oblivion goes into the tunnel straight down while Yukon is already way ahead in the pullout before it goes underground.

    • @SwiftTelly20
      @SwiftTelly20 5 лет назад +2

      My thoughts exactly. If oblivion could have been similar to this - use the drop it already has but 200ft drop plus another 50ft underground - with all these great elements - may be a better-placed brake run - then the final product could be so awesome. You know what I'm getting at? I can imagine it in my head, but it's difficult to put into words.

    • @shinydavidhowell
      @shinydavidhowell 5 лет назад +2

      @@SwiftTelly20 And of course Oblivion couldn't be that, or even close to that. Alton Towers aren't allowed to build above 25m (82') and all their major coasters are as they are because of that limitation. Nemesis has the cut-through sections. Oblivion has that tunnel. The Smiler has the record inversion count and does it compact Gertslauer style. And Wicker Man is all about lateral rather than vertical Gs.

    • @SwiftTelly20
      @SwiftTelly20 5 лет назад +2

      @@shinydavidhowell No that is not what I meant. I meant Yukon Striker should have a similar "drop into tunnel" element as Oblivion with a better-placed brake run as it isn't in the best position on the ride [as it stands]. Yeah, it would so cool if Oblivion could have inversions and such like Yukon and other dive coasters, but it was an experimental ride design. Also, it does pale in comparison to others now. It was amazing for its time. It regularly breaks down, but unless Merlin is willing to spend the money getting it updated in some way to today's standards, it won't change, which is a shame. I know there is the rule too about no ride at Alton can be above the tree line which I don't like, but I understand why. Dive coasters wouldn't exist if B&M hadn't come up with Oblivion in the first place, I'm glad they did. I can see you know what you're talking about and passionate, so am I :-).

    • @Gabes1321
      @Gabes1321 3 года назад +1

      @@SwiftTelly20 it’s crazy to think how far oblivion actually goes underground! The drop is 187ft and only about 50ft of that is above ground! I think if Yukon Striker went into a tunnel like Oblivion did, there would either be a massive tunnel sticking out the ground which would look weird or they would have to make the drop bigger which I don’t think the technology is there yet or they would have to shorten the ride height but keep the drop the same height and make the furious go far underground. But that would make it less scary to the GP

    Coming from the US, especially in this part of the country, there's a lot of competition, Cedar Point mostly. But this is the largest park in Canada and the only Cedar Fair in Canada as well. This park can somewhat be considered a "test" park for bringing rides over from Europe, and new ideas (Sledgehammer). Bringing the Dive coaster is more for Toronto and Canada than it is for any US visitor. Keep in mind this park is landlocked so it can not expand any more outwards and because of the neighboring homes can have a sound cap, they had to put sand inside the tracks when they built Leviathan.

    Great review. Looking forward to riding it on Thursday
    Personally though, I think they need to take out Time Warp and Flight Deck, and replace it with a Wing Coaster with Flight Deck name and theming. After Yukon Striker, it's probably got the best/coolest theming in the park. Doesn't have to be another record-breaking coaster, but I'd be satisfied with a wing coaster at CW. Afterall, it can't get much worse than Time Warp OR Flight Deck

    I feel like parks are now putting vest restraints on dive coasters for the GP. The GP probably feel safer with the vest restraints because they are more restrictive than over the shoulder restraints.

    I live in Bracebridge it’s one hour and 40 minutes away from Toronto I’ve been on the UConn striker before I went on it 15 times what I have to say is I went 15 times in the front and the front that you just go up the hill straight and then turn stop and then head down the reason why I like that is because this coaster gives when you’re going up the hill and it just gives you the butterflies in your stomach

    The only downside of rides like this one are the wait time; I waited roughly two hours to get on this attraction. It didn’t help that a handful of kids kept cutting the line.😕

      Honestly they aren't that great unlike many of B&M's models like gigas and hypers. They are really short and on the side seats they are rattly. Or at least that's the case on Griffon. The drop is really the only great thing about them and you can get other 90 degree drops on many other coasters. Cannibal at Lagoon has a drop angle below 90 degrees!
