  • Griffon features a 90 degree drop, 2 immelmann's, and a splash down to cap it all off, making it one of the best roller coasters in Virginia. But all that said, no coaster is perfect. In this review, you'll hear me talk about the pros and cons of this massive B&M!

You need to re-review X2 very badly.
I'd also recommend New Texas Giant, Shockwave at SFOT, Goliath at SFGAm, Expedition Everest, Verbolten, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Magnum XL-200, I305, Riddlers Revenge, Apocalypse (SFMM) and Kumba. I'm curious to see how your opinions have changed on those thrill coasters and I'm really curious to see how your opinions have changed on those themed coasters since you've traveled to Europe and also ridden coasters like Hagrids.

Dive coasters are absolutely genius from a marketing standpoint. They look so cool as you drive up to the park and people that would never ride it, love to watch people on it go down that 90 degree hill. A coaster that attracts people to the park that love to ride and don’t like to ride, is a win...win for the park.

Griffon will always hold a special place in my heart.
I was terrified of roller coasters when I was little and one time I went to Busch Gardens with some friends and I vowed to go on everything to get over my fear.
For some reason, they pulled me on Griffon first. I cried all the way up the lift hill. Cried. I was surprised when I loved it.
Before that I had only ever been on lochness and I hated it with a passion, though I respect it now.
Griffon literally turned me into a coaster enthusiast.
I’ve only ridden the 3 dive coasters currently operating in the states, and while I am a bit biased, griffon remains my favorite.

When I was a kid and this ride was brand new, my mom worked night shift. So one day when she was exhausted but I wanted to go to BGW, I rode this over and over for several hours while she napped at the exit. Best day honestly. My mom rocks and so does this coaster 😅

For a re review, Ghostrider. In Ghostrider you missed the insane drop off the midcourse, where it almost feels like the ride wants to kill you. For a new one, Space Mountain at Disneyland. Absolutely underrated, only in house built coaster by Disney until Dynamic Attractions re tracked it, and it feels pretty crazy in the back row.

Griffon was my first Dive Machine back in 2010. I still love it, but its 3rd now for me out of the 4 in North America. I enjoy the vests so Yukon and Valravn are my top 2. We were lucky to have 6 rides on Yukon last year and it's definitely my personal favorite for now.

I've found the vest restraints on Yukon Striker to be pretty good tbh~ Yes they're a little tight, but I got lots of airtime, especially on the drops and the zero-g winder. In that regard, I like those restraints more than the average enthusiast.

    • @OklahomaCoasterFan
      @OklahomaCoasterFan 3 года назад +1

I also like them a lot. All you have to do is not staple yourself. And for any airtime later in the ride, push against the restraints during the positive-G moments. It's annoying to have to fight the restraints to not get stapled, but we have to do that with Lightning Rod also, and nobody hold that against it.

    • @TonyKimtheamusementparkfan

On the subject of Griffon’s lift hill, I highly recommend trying to time a sunset ride to maximize the value of the view, and while I do agree that it can be relaxing for an extra thrill try riding it right before they shut it down due to wasps and they’re buzzing around you the whole time. Adds a nice level of danger to the experience.

One of the best things about griffin is that if you go on a rainy day and majority of the tourists leave because they think they got rained out, griffin is one of the Rollercoasters that let you ride over, and over without getting out of your seat. I once rode it 5 times in a row without getting off. The rain does hurt a little when you get to the top, though.

I really like Griffon and prefer it to other dive coasters. That said it is a bit short. Here's my BGW ranking.
    1) Apollo's Chariot (I think this coaster is super underrated and rank it just behind Mako and Diamondback for US B&M hypercoasters)
    2) Alpengeist (only in front seat, otherwise it falls several spots)
    3) Verbolten
    4) Griffon
    5) Loch Ness Monster
    6) Tempesto
    7) InvadR
    8) GAE
Certainly, Pantheon will be the best coaster when it opens and possibly the best in Virginia if not the south east. I honestly don't think BGW has a single bad coaster.

I had ridden Sheikra at BGT but I liked Griffon a tad bit more. To me, Griffon was a smoother ride and I enjoyed the 2nd half of the ride more than Sheikra. I left BGW thinking Griffon was either the #1 or #2 coaster in the park, battling Apollo's Chariot for the top spot. I look froward to going back to BGW. This time I will know to stay away from the long steps that are near Lock Ness Monster. The steps wore me out, me being 55 years old.

I do see what you mean about those restraints allowing for better airtime compared to the vests. The problem is that the GP are really bothered by those headbanging B&M restraints. I talk to them all the time, and they love the vests. They didn't seem to like Griffon, complaining of headbanging. That's why it (and Alpengeist) had no line when I was there, even though the other rides were slammed with huge lines. With the vests, the key is to not staple yourself when pulling down the restraint. You will still get great airtime on the drop.

BGT is my home park and I LOVE SheiKra. Though when I went to BGW in 2018, Griffon won me over as the favorite dive at those two parks.

My review is simple. Best roller coaster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and the best dive coaster I've ridden personally. The only other two I've ridden are Sheikra at Busch Gardens Tampa at #2 and Valravn at Cedar Point at #3.

"It is the least themed ride in the park"
Now that Pantheon has opened, it takes this dubious title.

I’m just wondering if you will do a review on any more rides at alton towers? 🤨

Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of footage to be able to really do a proper review on rides like Oblivion or Galactica. I would love to but it just isn’t practical.

4:36 Busch Gardens Williamsburg pulling a six flags. It’s also throughout the park as well.

I believe B&M has a temperature limit of 32 degrees on all of their roller coasters.

    • @Danrarbc
      @Danrarbc 3 года назад +1

Six Flags laughs at that limit. They'll operate them until the circuit timers make it clear it'll valley if they don't shut down.
And so does Batman in particular. Seriously those things still haul at 20°F and I've seen it open in the teens.
