A thing of note. Tempestus Command Squads can be reinforced since they are the only command squad with the Regiment keyword (they can also order themselves). Doesn't sound worthwile? Well the officer will also return (since Reinforcements only forbids attached characters from returning, which the tempestor prime isn't) as well as stuff like ogryn bodyguards, attachés or nork deddog (as they become part of the unit for the entire battle). It's afaik the only way to bring an officer back via reinforcements and if you add an ogryn bodyguard or nork, you got something that may be worth using reinforcements on.
This is EXACTLY the vid I needed 😁 I've been trying to make a Harakoni Warhawks themed list using scions and light armour by converting some drop sentinels. The 15 model drop squad is genuis btw I am thoroughly inspired 👌
Hey mordian, just wanted to say I'm a long time subscriber and viewer of yours, and I'm only that due to your scion content, please continue with it! Thanks
I like how you can take tanks and things. You can make elite assault units. Like the Soviet breakthrough tank units: imagine: 2 dorns and a russ or 2 backed up by mechanised scions.
mordy mordt mordy! not enough anti-tank in there but the list is cool in my list i take 55 scions 50 + command squad in 6 taurox prime then take 3 demolisher tanks and a demolisher tank commander as the str 14 cannon plus the las cannons in the hulls give a lot of push on high toughness targets. just my 2 cents!
This list looks so fun, look forward to the tourney battle reports. I'm pretty new to 10th ed tactics and Guard- would a viable way to counter this list be to keep pieces in reserve to reduce the impact of your punch and then counterpunch with the reserves? (which I guess you could counter with your deep strikers, lol)
So, I remember when Militarum Tempestus wasn't a thing; these were Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, or Cadian Kasrkin, and while I get the value of these elite Troopers, without the necessity of the Cadian tag, I miss those older options. I guess where I'm going with this is would you ever be willing to field a list like this...that includes an Inquisitor? I know that Inquisitors aren't really the most competitive choice, but this is a channel where I can go and see "more fun, less competitive", and it's totally doable with your lists. Would you ever toss one into a MT list, like the Inquisitorial Stormtroopers of old? An Assassin might be fun, too, but I'd love to see an Inquisitor incorporated, since I like them. Just curious. It's really cool to see Vultures, Psykers, and Advisors. Looks like a neat alternative list!
Switching the Scion Warlord model for an inquisitor model as a "proxy" shouldn't be too disruptive and would look really cool and thematic imo. Shows which of the Tempestors is the Warlord much more clearly and gives the force good cohesion in purpose.
I've ran nearly this exact list for years now. I started getting back into 40k iat the start of 8th edition and bought my way into an army "cheap" by buying the scion IG get started boxes. 4 taurox prime, a couple tempestor, 50troopers, a couple other characters like primaris psykers, give or take a unit or three and it would end up around 1500ish points. Then you could fill in with other stuff. I used to throw in baneblade variants, saint celestine, bullgryn blobs, valkyries, whatever I was really feeling. They give me just enough of the flavor of guard but let you keep your collection narrow and focused on the stuff you want. I highly recommend them as an army for beginner collectors or experienced players. As a caveat to that last statement I do think the army takes strong game knowledge to avoid damage aka you might get clobbered a few times til you get the hang of it but overall they are great fun. I do wish GW would expand their range with motorcycle scouts/shocktroops, a punchy medium-ish tank, or maybe just some sort of specialized commando lone-operatives/specialized squads. Either way they have a lot of a character already you won't be sorry to get into them.
I hope the codex will give us a detachment with rules that help with mechanized playstyle. My experience with scions in 10e is that you don't get to benefit from orders often and if you get to use born soldier, you're probably in a bad situation to begin with. Even without benefiting from army and detachment rules, scions can do a lot of work. Their naturally high BS and inate ability to rr to hit added to the taurox ability to rr to wound allows them to hit well above their pts. Add to this the commands squad's sustained hits means you can dish out a lot of firepower. Sanctioned psyker is an interesting idea. I always thought of it as a defensive option, it's true that its attack profile is interesting as well. The air support is both thematic and conductive to the scions playstyle. Your list is similar to mine and it gives me food for thought on tweaks I can make. Great video!
This is the most competitive list you drop untill now. No parkingblades No punchingbagsquads Only pain in the enemy ass. I don't like vultures, but why not.
I think scions are a bit of a sleeper and actually pretty good, the problem is how to make them good rubs a lot of the purists the wrong way. They really want to be backed up by the rest of the guard motor pool like sents and or Russes
I've been playing scions at low points for ages. Did alright in 9th but the tank changes in 10th have been a right pain. Am thinking of taking a valkerie for the last cannons for some anti tank
Please explain this to me, I am a space marine player, and we use transports because they're cheaper than the unit we're transporting. Do the transports in the guard act as good firing units or just act purely as transport. If it's the latter, then surely it's too expensive?
@mordianglory looks like i will have to be bringing the glory boys back out again, just managed to pip you back end of 9th on sole scions rankings lol. Have you thought of using the drill comd, double order, taurox, fields of fire and plunging fire combo its devestating on one unit, for when you really need something dead
To be honest, I think you'd get more value out of battle cannons than missile launchers on the tauroxes. D6 blast shots at BS3+ S8 AP-1 D2 is quite a good general-purpose profile
Would anyone who is a bit more knowledgeable about the game than myself be able to link me this army in a list format? I’m having a hard time transcribing this onto paper myself. Thank you!
Would you ever consider doing a painting tutorial? Your models look like you are able to paint then super fast (no offense). I feel like all the painting tutorials on youtube paint stuff to a way higher standard than most 40k players. I feel like a "heres how to get your models painted for the table" from someone like you who is more into the game side than the hobby side would be super helpful for a lot of us.
Last time I was this early, cadia was still whole planet
🤣🤣🤣
Too soon!
@@Valkyrie_3d had damn near, all of the factions helping and still lost, sad day 😢
@dabiggestblunder9177 they should have done better than they were currently doing
Some Cadian player may take that personally
A thing of note.

I want to run this kind of list so bad. I can't wait to see what our codex brings to us

40 Scions popping out of a Stormlord sounds like a list I wanna run.
Holy crap over been sleeping on the psyckers 10:30
Hey mordian, just wanted to say I'm a long time subscriber and viewer of yours, and I'm only that due to your scion content, please continue with it! Thanks
The addition of the airborne boys is a really nice touch. That is a ton of punch.
Best of luck at the upcoming tournament. Looks like a fun list 🎉

love the way you painted the windows of the valks!
Could you post your battle lists in the description please? I want to learn guard and your lists are a good way to do it

Scions are so cool. This is the next force I want to build. I have some regular guard and I really enjoy them but I really want to try the scions.

Ogryn bodyguard in with a 15 man squad. Got a 1000pt 3rd ed pewter list, inquisitorial ogryn with a big knife makes me happy.
More flyers no Taurox, no Chimera. Flyer transports , flyer gunships, thunderbolts! Love the infantry load outs and 15 man squads.
you can put those flyers in hover and keep them still for lethal hits on those gatling cannons lol
I hope the codex will give us a detachment with rules that help with mechanized playstyle. I agree. For 55points they can grab points and objectives
Holy crap, that's literally the army I've just painted. First time out will be in two weeks.
I took all scions in 7th to a casual game, played against an ork truk rush army, it was over by t2
In whose favor?
@@markdorn8873 orks, just steam rolled me, back when scion had s3 18" guns
drop the flyers and add a dorn or two
Whats really funny is that a hammerfall bunker or two would tear this list apart
I've been playing scions at low points for ages. Did alright in 9th but the tank changes in 10th have been a right pain. Am thinking of taking a valkerie for the last cannons for some anti tank
So those attaché buffs can be done while in the chimera?
@14:50 you sacrifice Guardsman in order to score more points... I do it because I'm an incompetent commander. We are not the same 🕴️
I converted some navy breachers to scions I would recommend it
I like Scions but I don't think id take a pure list of them.
Please explain this to me, I am a space marine player, and we use transports because they're cheaper than the unit we're transporting. Do the transports in the guard act as good firing units or just act purely as transport. If it's the latter, then surely it's too expensive?
Silly question, but can the attaches use their ability from inside the chimera
Looking forward to the report! o7
What is the third regimental advisor.Heard officer of the fleet, astropath,What is the 3rd?
I dont think Primaris Psykers can join Scions, or am i wrong ?
Where are the rules for limiting reserves to turn 3 havent seen it in app
Can you have all 3 attaches join the same command squad? If yes, I’ve been doing it wrong

Look it’s pure scions! Maybe an attempt for pure infantry Tau could be in the future for us. I’ll keep begging until I see it. Please sir!!!
R u allowed more than three torox
I want to see Mordian mechanised grenadiers!
Pure scions???? Let's go boys
After your Tournament, would you still recommend the krak-rockets ? I remember that you found them somewhat lacking.
Let's see the Modern Scion list.

Less than 12 hours ago I wrote my full scion list 😂
Would love to see your scion list!
Without more vallks and vendettas, it just doesn't feel right anymore
Cool list! Shame GW put Vendettas into Legends. 3 twin linked Lascannons would have been ideal for your Scions
add gaunts ghosts , drop a vulture,add a t-bolt.
