I work as a graphic designer for a print shop. These instructions are completely WRONG. First of all, if you want to specify a bleed area, you simply do that in the document setup before you start your design. (You would specify a 3.5" x 2.0" document size, and specify a bleed of 0.125" on each side. You do NOT need to create a separate rectangle shape to designate a bleed area.) Second, why would you bother creating the card in Illustrator, and then placing it into Photoshop? All you need to do is save it as a PDF from Illustrator (including the bleed area), and then send that PDF file to your chosen printer. You don't need Photoshop at all! Third, if you want the best print quality, you NEVER -- I repeat, NEVER -- utilize JPG/PNG as the file format.

@@kitchencook2573 You would use the Adobe PDF format to send to a printing company. Make sure you include your bleed, if there is one, and outline all fonts. You should also flatten all layers.
