That’s not why Amtrak stopped freight. The freight railroads couldn’t stop anything even with lawsuits. The service was stopped because Amtrak and the post office couldn’t agree to a long term contract which was needed to justify purchasing new equipment.
Most of the equipment wasn't just scrapped after Amfreight was discontinued. The RoadRailers went to TripleCrown (Norfolk Southern) and the MHCs/boxcars were bough by private leasers. They're extremely rare, but I've personally seen a few MHCs in 2024 with the Phase IV pain still recognizable underneath the grime, patches and graffiti still operating on freight trains.
The profit center of private passenger rail was mail and EXPRESS. Amtrak delayed trains cause it was underfunded from the first day. Amtrak president David Gunn gave the service away in a deal offered to him by the railroad lobby. To allow funding of Amtrak one more year! With record demand fares could be raised to make up the loss of revenue and they were. Which also controlled demand. It was a great service that I used. The private passenger rail system finally went bankrupt from coast to coast Oct 1th 1967 due to going out of the mail and EXPRESS business. It took four years of train losses for congress to start underfunded Amtrak. Which was to be gone in two years. Gas was 20 cents a gallon. It was a 1970 world. Package express, Fed Ex and UPS has grown 1000 times today, but Amtrak the fastest ground vehicle has been left out. Under 1000 miles trains overnight were just as fast as flying! But it's all truck today at very high cost. They run on those tax payer build billion dollar government highways. Taxpayers like the property owners the RAILROADS! Common sense tells you trucks with there highs use of fuel is not cheaper. Nor faster than the overnight trains.
Great job on this video. Nice to see you uploading again.
Great and informative video! I hadn't realize Amtrak was breaking the rules on the act that was created in their formation.
Great to see you're back! As always, thanks for all the information :)
Good but you're suffering from some the same issues others have faced. The music is way too loud and your voice is too quiet.

This is a good video well researched but the music is too loud and you’re too quiet, also you should consider using captions (no hate )
Silly ImTrak they should’ve stuck to being a train instead for trying to be a bus
I thought they stopped carrying freight in 2005.
What’s the song at the end of the video
