I almost passed out from laughing to the intro... It’s so random
I saw this documentary about lions once where the biologists wanted to test and see if lionesses prefer males with lighter manes or males with darker manes. So they set out these life-size and very real looking plush lions among a few different lioness groups that lived on a preserve. The lionesses overwhelmingly preferred the male with the dark colored mane, not even bothering with the lighter one.
This is just a theory...but the movie makers might have seen that too, and applied it to Scar's design. Making him lighter makes him unappealing to the lionesses, whereas Mufasa is now the one with the darker coloring. Again, this is just a guess. I kinda like the new design.
You're probably right. It also helps that Scar looks a bit more mangy. Mufasa is the badass the ladies want!

Correct. The darker the mane means that they have more testosterone and it's a sign that the lion is stronger, the females like that because it means the pride will be well protected. I saw that in the Lion Whisperer channel.
Also I never seen a real lion looking the way animated Scar looks, and since this movie is taking the realistic approach I'm ok with it
@@yaritzamiranda921 yup, in the real world, lions who have black manes indicate a very healthy lion within its prime as well as a status symbol. They typically are well fed and ooze testosterone. I would assume that because Scar does not have a black mane, it further symbolizes his declining health, evilness, and malnourishment,Therefore, Scar could never has one irl. This look is really what you see in Animal Planet about nomads lions that always looses the battles. Bravo Disney for being statistically accurate!

Last year I fulfilled a life long dream of doing a safari. I flew to Namibia, rented a car and drove to the national park. I had King of Pride Rock going as I drove over the plains. I was in the car alone turned a corner and when the music swelled I saw my first water hole with ALL the animals grazing and just sat there in awe remembering the first time I saw The Lion King and how much influence the movie has had on my life.
Black manes on lions usually signifies them as the pack leader so geographically it wouldn’t make sense that Scar would be black. If anything Mufasa should have a black mane and not Scar. Scar definitely looks like an outcast Lion.

Trailer looks great, I agree about Scar being a bit too light, but I think we have to accept it's just a new take.

This is a “live action” take. No lions exist that look like scar (dark brown coat, black mane).

I'm with you both. The score for The Lion King is one of the reasons it's one of my favorites! Hans Zimmer nailed it! Especially with "The King of Pride Rock". Everytime I hear it, whew... So hearing it in the trailer, while seeing a recreation of Simba, Pumbaa, and Timon's trio walk?! NOSTALGIC! Bring me back to the '90s!!! Can't wait to see this!

LOOOOOL that intro! I'm so excited to see this! The animated Lion King is my favorite animated film ever (maybe joint first in my rankings with Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse).
If you look at scar when he walks up to Sarabi at the end of the trailer he looks more like the animated classic , I think we are seeing a younger version of him during the trailer, remember time pases by when he exiled simba so scar will age quite a bit

I saw the trailer on my morning commute and I was sniffling and smiling like anything, trying not to be annoying. Such a deep and emotional response to The Lion King! Even reminded me of The Circle of Life: Environmental Fable that closed early last year in Epcot.
It was confirmed a few months ago that all five songs from the original film (yes, including Be Prepared) are in this one.

Me upon seeing “The John Campea Show”’s title this morning was “New “The Lion King” trailer: I’m not crying, you’re crying.”.....alright John, sounds like the new trailer is pretty great, and the original got me hard in the feels as a child, and I love it, but that’s a long time ago, and I’m a grown-ass man now.

Once I saw that iconic shot of Simba, Timon, and Pumba walking across the moonlight, the eyes welled up.
I can't wait for this. I don't want to wait however long Australia has to wait for this. I need it now. Absolutely love the 1994 classic. I was nervous when Jeremy Irons wasn't cast back as Scar as I've only had a limited amount of exposure of Chiwetel Ejiofor, but I like what I heard.
Scar looks fine to me, his mane should just be a little bit darker. The best score from the original is "To Die For..." from the stampede (speaking of which, I'm not ready to see it in photo-realistic cg)

I kinda hope it takes a jungle book approach to the music where the songs are more organically integrated into the scenes.

The Lion King is my all time favorite Disney movie ever! Also, I completely see what you’re saying where Scar is concerned, but I’m really liking it. I was worried before I found out the team that did Jungle Book was doing it that it wouldn’t meet expectations(and I get why it can’t meet certain ones) but I’m so excited for it now! I can’t wait to hear all the songs but Can you feel the love tonight is going to have me teary I can pretty much grantee you. The only thing that I’m not crazy about is that they changed 2/3 of the Hyenas names my guess is that they wanted them to have African names, but besides that one thing, I think it’s perfect and I am so ready for this!

this is indeed a trip down memory lane. scar being in that version is a bit difficult to see first. it does seem to be very similar to the animated movie. but awaits, will be a circle of life. wonder though if we will get more trailers.

I'm bummed that Jeremy Irons isn't back. This guy doesn't sound nearly as good. Jeremy Irons was an incredible contrast to the iconic baritone of James Earl Jones.
They wanted to go with a mostly African-American cast. And there’s no way it could be the same. It’s been 25 years. Let. It. Go.

this film does have some promise
But i am not a donald glover and beyonce fan, i like for the voicing of simba and nala to be Respectful to the characters
thats why when you hear the original matt broderick and moira kelly version as opposed to this , it kinda gives the original far more depth to the characters, most of the new voices of the characters, except for a few exceptions from timon,pumbaa and zazu, and the hyenas, the rest of them are all fair game, Meaning, sarabi is ok But could have improved by a different actor, scar's voice in this one was ok, But could have Improved if it was done by a better actor

Scar looks how he should look if we are being realistic which Disney clearly are and I respect that.
No Lions mane is ever as dark as they made it in the original animation, and the main reason for that was because they needed to differentiate Mufasa to Scar then Simba as a fully grown Lion.
In the real world a healthy full mane is the symbol of a strong and healthy Lion which is of course and example of Mufasa, usually Lions that look like scar does in this remake are exactly what Lions look like in the real world when they are not healthy and strong, and this is what I love about the look of scar, he is clearly battle worn, skinny and the bottom of the pecking order in terms of Male dominance.

Scars fur (in the cartoon) was a chocolate color and his mane was black.... lions aren’t naturally chocolate colored and only strong healthy lions has black manes 🤦🏾♂️so it wouldn’t be natural
