I have to agree this really is an amazing figure, so amazing infact that I have no issues with picking up the Titans Return Power Master Optimus Prime Retool.
I have an explanation for the doors that don't lead anywhere. Ultra Magnus' vehicle mode was designed by the same architect as the Winchester Mystery House.
Minibus Anmbus makes you feel He’s a cool minicon with a heart of steel. As Ultra Magnus, justice ablaze, He’s bashes foes with his hammer everyday! Amazing armor! That’s Ultra Magnus! A blazing power! That’s Ultra Magnus! It had to be done.
Where did that come from? And Minimus isn't really a Mini-Con...though Ask Vector Prime called him one as well as a Micromaster, Brainmaster, and other things in different universes.
Also I love idw, Magnus had not smiled in so long his muscles/pistons in his face were rusted solid, in a book the shrunk lost light crew had to make him smile to kill an invasive enemy that was also tiny... he literally killed some guys by finally smiling ^^
I think I saw another review which mentioned that the hands can rotate. Except there is a cut in the armor which allows him to hold his hammer and hinders that articulation as the fist can only be positioned one way with the hammer.
TJOmega They might just be really tight joints but I wouldn't really try to force them. If you feel like you might break something just ignore me. I would hate for you to break your figure because of something I said. Also, I may be totally mistaken as my memory is horrible.
Even if he's lighter than previous leader class figures, Magnus is one of the most satisfying leader toys I've ever handled. I love this toy so much, in spite of its flaws.
Actually, War Hammers and cudgles were used far more than swords in medieval combat as with the armor you could really only pierce through was small gaps near the joints where chain mail is exposed. With hammers and cudgels you can smash a dudes head in even with a helmet. Also, don't tell Kaito Kumon that maces and hammers are dumb...he will teach you about the violent taste of mangoes
Hey, TJ. Have you ever tried to convert Magnus into a base mode? A Facebook post revealed that the ramps and the cab work with the car Mini-Cons and the chest plate can be a makeshift helicopter pad.
Great review. :) I kept my other Magni, but this one's front and center. And for me biggest flaw are those wrists that can't rotate, especially with a melee weapon.
I really like this Ultra Magnus as well. But I'm not ready to give up my Classics\City Commander armor just yet. Or ever really. I think he still looks good on a shelf, and maybe I can purpose him into another one of my TF collections. I'm still figuring that part out.
Ok..so if the tiny ladders and doors are to be believed then how FREAKING HUGE are the cars Ultra Magnus carries supposed to be? Like..the first things that come to mind in terms of vehicles he can carry that make sense considering the scale of those doors are the old RID bullet train team or maybe classics Astrotrain.
You know, I just realized that this toy's missile launchers look suspiciously similar to the launchers included with later production runs of City Commander...
silly TJ, that door was clearly put in by the nanocons so they could go out to Swerve's when not fucking with Magnus's systems and forcing him to smile
That is a pretty neat figure, in spite of its minor limitations. It's a shame it's so hollow and thin, but that's kinda necessary now--it looks pretty great, very G1 Utra Magnus with some twists. If only the first volume of MTMTE didn't disgust me to my core, I'd probably like this.
Awpwn Admittedly, I only read volume one, but I have never thought Alex Milne's art works for Transformers. Plus, all the characters (with the exception of one or two) were utterly unlikeable or annoying. Several of them make distasteful jokes about people who just died, or in the case of Rodimus learning that one of his crew has suffered a horrific torturous death at the hands of some monster, he smiles and says "cool." Any investment I had for his character died in that moment. I especially hated Whirl, though, I think he's the most despicable character of the lot. It doesn't help that I think having the Cybertronian population blame Optimus for what is, objectively speaking in every way, Megatron's fault is moronic and annoying to sit through, especially since Optimus is one of the few characters besides Ratchet who I can honestly say I still liked at that point. The plot revolves around some legend that they're only inventing now for this series that's seemingly never been mentioned or eluded to before, despite it supposedly being a big deal that everyone there just knows, which is seriously lazy writing. The concept that just bringing these legendary figures to Cybertron will fix these deep-seeded political and social problems which has NOTHING to do with them is just stupid from the get-go. Bottom line, hated the characters and the annoyingly cliche'd plot. Maybe it got better later, I don't know, but as an introduction to the series, issues 1-5 just made me sad.
Spike Prime The series explains Whirl's behaviour and back-story throughout the series (it's pretty tragic). Rodimus' actions and questionable leadership skills is also incorporated into the story (notably in the events of Dark Cybertron). In recent issues, Megatron actually becomes a fairly interesting character that's not just evil for the sake of being evil like in almost every other interpretation of the character. Since you like Ratchet and if you only have the time to read one issue, I would recommend issue #40: Our Steps Will Always Rhyme.
Awpwn Megatron was already an interesting character as seen in Megatron Origin. His backstory and personality in IDW was well-developed, and all I've seen from recent developments just looks like a lot of plotlines I am not interested in. If you enjoy and love it, more power to you. I simply do not.
Awpwn The only characters I really liked in that series were Ratchet and Trailbreaker. The rest all have exaggerated emotional issues that didn't interest me in the least. Then there's the Decepticon Justice Division. I don't care if they're "just robots", watching a sentient being shove another sentient being through the equivalent of a wood chipper is disturbing. I finally stopped reading just before Dark Cybertron. I don't care if it's good (which it may well be) or not, it's just not my taste.
Aaaaa Ultra Magnus my favorite Transformer character period i got this figure two days ago and i am still gushing but i will keep an eye out fore third company upgrades i love this figure so Much i am willing to go the exstra mile
To me I believe they were hinting at diaclones when they made the door moldings and the ladders, same with Minibus Anmbus hes a car that can be driven by diaclones/humens and then combine or pilot the armor which is magnus and the diaclones or say humans can pilot magnus as a giant truck. its just the way i look at this toy
A typical sword has problems when it comes to tackling armored figure, as the blade doesn't have enough heft to pierce through metal plates. To reliably deal damage, a blade has to stab through the helm's eye slit or slice at the exposed joints and articulations. A daunting task in full-on melee. However, a warhammer can reliably, if partially, inflict bludgeoning trauma despite a full plate, hence its frequent use during the Dark Ages. ruclips.net/video/HtjSS5FmQc0/видео.html
great toy, with aliiitle bit more effort (and plastic) could have been incredible, but very good none the less. kind awish they released a compatible magnus minicon to have the powered convoy classic toy homage, since I'm more of a sucker for retro toys that for IDW, but oh well.
I did see a digibash of Generations Magnus with Legends Class Optimus and Roller. Magnus was Powered Convoy, Optimus was the core robot with black and blue, Roller was the Powered Buggy, and Minimus Ambus was the Diaclone Driver.
NickonAquaMagna it wont get back to those days but will sort of go back and forth with it. Way back when they started scaling back the plastic and size (around TF2 movie) it was BS excuses about having high petroleum cost, which is used as raw materiel for plastic. But despite the price hike and downgrade in scale and quality. People still buy it and a sudo "demand" is made that was birthed through addiction and/or fear of product loss. But the indie sector did save the collectors market. By offering high cost for high quality it all works out. And im pretty sure that is why we are seeing the combiners come out. In the recent years, it was aimed more towards children. (Rightly so since it is a childs toy) hence the over abundance of BumbleBee figures (who was the kids favorite) in each wave and more simplification of transformations. But with the crazy success of the add on kits for existing energon combiners and straight up remakes like Hercules AKA legally not devastator. Im pretty sure hasbro toke notice of this ever lasting market and that is why they are putting a little more effort into things. Least that is what i have noticed from the limited information that is available.
Gumba Chris I think the scaling back in plastic and size was around Dark of the Moon, not Revenge of the Fallen. RotF had some of the best movie toys (Leader Optimus Prime, Deluxe Sideswipe, Voyager Bludgeon and etcetera.). Also DotM was when they introduced the darn Mech Tech weapons that took up most of the parts count.
Awpwn ah thats right. It was but yeah Mech tech was another of the excuses. It was a way to make it friendlier towards younger kids. (dont know how young they are aiming for)
In regards to why UM is under the CW banner, one can argue that the fact his cab merges with his trailer to form the robot along with obviously Minimus Ambus combining with the suit alone ties into the theme of combining with someone or something and one can also argue that Leader Class Megatron well the Armada version anyway that is, has minicon ports you can use should you have any type of Minicon which again ties into the CW theme. The Leader Class Seekers however I can see not fitting in too well under the banner. As for the figure itself I'm still trying to find him and I wouldn't at all shocked if a 3rd party company manages to make a replacement cab that transforms into a white Optimus Prime looking robot for those who don't like the IDW Minimus Ambus feature on the toy.
I saw UM at a Vintage Stock for $50. Ugh. For the little figures, I wish the Generations Armada Megatron came with an updated Leader-1, though that would mean the other Megatron would have a figure called Caliburn or something.
Bdw tj sorry to be that Guy but the warhammer actualy was a verry potent weapon it was used against armored foes by denting the amore it became a hazerd to the one wearing it and the warhammer oftain came with a Large Spike one one Side to pirce chainmail and Shields and small fortifications were no protection from its blows it was not ment to be fast it was ment to DESTROY
RodimusMinor1987 I don't think he purchases third party products any more. The only third party product that I can recall him owning was City Commander.

The price is outrageous for such a small figure. Oh well, at least it comes with free Magnus armor.
It took me 10 SECONDS to get it!
AH I see what you did there you clever bastard
@@StopMotionReviewer1 *Smug Starscream grin*
"I wouldn't mind a Power Convoy repaint, but that's probably not gonna be in the works at any point."
"Do you want me to gut Ultra Mangus?"
Too late, looks like someone already did...
I have to agree this really is an amazing figure, so amazing infact that I have no issues with picking up the Titans Return Power Master Optimus Prime Retool.
The very first shot of the toy made me think, "He's reviewing a sewing machine? What?"
I have an explanation for the doors that don't lead anywhere. Ultra Magnus' vehicle mode was designed by the same architect as the Winchester Mystery House.
Minibus Anmbus makes you feel
He’s a cool minicon with a heart of steel.
As Ultra Magnus, justice ablaze,
He’s bashes foes with his hammer everyday!
Amazing armor! That’s Ultra Magnus!
A blazing power! That’s Ultra Magnus!
It had to be done.
Vanitas Reborn *slow clapping in the distance*
Vanitas Reborn heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey you know the theme (fanboys for four hours )
Elijah blechman Don't be too excited, I had to look up the lyrics.
Vanitas Reborn you know that show was a motion comic when i stared to reed comics, i saw that show, i saw a lot of old comics then
Where did that come from?
And Minimus isn't really a Mini-Con...though Ask Vector Prime called him one as well as a Micromaster, Brainmaster, and other things in different universes.
So techincally minimus ambus is the figure and ultra magnus is technically an accesory. Must be one of the bigest figure to acessory size gaps.
RialVestro Hands don't rotate on mine, they're molded into the white plastic of the forearm.
TJOmega They might just be really tight joints but I wouldn't really try to force them. If you feel like you might break something just ignore me. I would hate for you to break your figure because of something I said. Also, I may be totally mistaken as my memory is horrible.
Wouldn't it just be ironic if the autobot icon on him was painted on crooked?
Vexatron Primal ha that would have been awsome
Uh, how would that be ironic?
because magnus is such a rules stricler he gave arrest somewon with there autobot insiginal crooked
I read somewhere that the reason the doors are so small is so that the figure is in scale to the Devastator set. I don't know for sure, though.
"I have never seen anything so beautiful in the entire galaxy.....alright hand me a bomb."
The door is to scale the toy where minimus is the size of a full size car
I ordered a used copy of this guy and I'm supposed to be getting him tomorrow. Love your channel and your style. You rock.
Even if he's lighter than previous leader class figures, Magnus is one of the most satisfying leader toys I've ever handled. I love this toy so much, in spite of its flaws.
I was thinking about buying this figure before watching the video but now I'm definetly going to buy it.
it'll be awesome for you to review Nova Prime.
Yeah. Or Lemon Energy...but he was supposed to be an homage to KR Knight from Ryuki so he had a spear...what can u do?
Great review! I absolutely looooove this figure!! :D
I love Magnus and this one is looking pretty great!
Hey, TJ. Have you ever tried to convert Magnus into a base mode? A Facebook post revealed that the ramps and the cab work with the car Mini-Cons and the chest plate can be a makeshift helicopter pad.
+Mini-Con Longarm I will try it though, the pictures look really cool.
Ultra Magnus has an elephant face on his chest...
And now that you see it you can't un see it.
matthew ricker I thought I was the only one that noticed!
I love the idw comics they made ultra magus a title i love that
What about minimus? He technically "combines" with the armor.
I really dont care if they don't follow the rules this is cool!
Ultra Magnus is so cool, one of the best in a long time
Great review. :) I kept my other Magni, but this one's front and center. And for me biggest flaw are those wrists that can't rotate, especially with a melee weapon.
Having an Ulta Magnus toy that isn't a repaint of Optimus with some armor just feels wrong...
Can't unsee Dustup's face hidden in his chest!
Yeah wow. I can't wait till I find mine. Can't wait to paint it.
Neat. One of my favourite characters aboard the Lost Light!
Awpwn Is that the name of the comic or a ship. I am sorry, but I really have no knowledge of IBM.
John Dantin The Lost Light is the ship (captained by Rodimus and Megatron) from IDW's More than Meets the Eye comic series.
+Awpwn CO-CAPTAIN. Not "captain," CO-CAPTAIN.
Oh, wait...IT'S NOT A REAL RANK.
if you take into account the scaling of the small doors. In rbot mode he is Megazord sized...maybe even Jager sized. Picture that one.
I really like this Ultra Magnus as well. But I'm not ready to give up my Classics\City Commander armor just yet. Or ever really. I think he still looks good on a shelf, and maybe I can purpose him into another one of my TF collections. I'm still figuring that part out.

It's a real shame he can't drive the vehicle mode. It would've been perfect!
I was expecting a matrix of leadership to go into his chest lol
You know, I just realized that this toy's missile launchers look suspiciously similar to the launchers included with later production runs of City Commander...
silly TJ, that door was clearly put in by the nanocons so they could go out to Swerve's when not fucking with Magnus's systems and forcing him to smile
YES.
Please do RiD Megatron/ Galvatron! I want to see all 11 forms!
remember, this magnus it literally a mech suit
Could you please make some scale comparisons with other toys?
“I am ultra magnus! My shoulder churros shall bring justice to the galaxy!”
Also, will we ever get a Master Piece MP-24 Star Saber review?
Hey Tj, could you please review age of extinction hot shot
It's better to replace Minimus Ambus with the Matrix of LeaderShip. I really hate his IDW incarnation, as an old AutoBot in an armor.
How is the blue on your fig so dark?
That is a pretty neat figure, in spite of its minor limitations. It's a shame it's so hollow and thin, but that's kinda necessary now--it looks pretty great, very G1 Utra Magnus with some twists.

the door could be to an electrical box or access port to hydraulic., so simply not for ppl to get into but to access things for repairs.
Minimus ambis is the size of a regular car so it's not a stretch that Magnus is the size of a house compared to a regular car
since your doing leader class, could you cover cybertron optimus prime ?

Hey Tj random question, have you play Dragon Ball Xenoverse?
Apparently these big guys are meant to be "city sized* so that kinda explains it

It's not a mustache, it's the facial insigna of House of Ambus :p
I want this guyyyyyyyy
Idk where id get him in 2021 thoughhhhhh

You can always tell Combiner Wars Transformers by the hollow cheap plastic sound they make. Seriously.
Aw, you didn't mention that he's the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord... Still a good review, though.
Buzzing Sign Diner I'm pretty sure he was stripped of that title by Tyrest :(
nokturnal02 Didn't he still go by that title even after Tyrest was revealed to be a lunatic?
I'm not really sure? Last I remember Star Saber was the new Duly Appointed Enforcer. Does the Tyrest Accord even exist anymore?

Same with minmus animus
I got this guy for 36$

This is a Figure I must Get. How about you Review a Third party Figure, for a Change
RodimusMinor1987 I don't think he purchases third party products any more. The only third party product that I can recall him owning was City Commander.
