+menamgamg Yeah, when I was a kid and the commercials for Star Wars (1977) came on the TV, the sound of the TIE fighter screaming by would make me and my brother stop in our tracks - whatever we were doing - and race to see it. No movie before it had the unique and otherworldly sounds of Star Wars - which made it "real" and lived in. JW3HH
JustWasted3HoursHere Yep the sound effects of star wars are fkn incredible.. They really invented new sounds that you can't even imagine where they came from :P And i actually think the impression was quite close for making it with ur own voice hahah!
He signed up to be an executive producer for ABC's Archie Comics drama Riverdale, but he ultimately pulled out after the Alphabet kicked the project over to a different network.
Larry didn't write V & IV though?... George did... Larry produced the screenplays... George did all the story stuff... Which is why he should have been involved in it and his treatments shouldn't have been discarded wouldn't have been as predictable as what we did get... Disney managed to worry me about the future of the Saga because of this movie... It relies on callbacks and similar designs and planets far to much without tying in to the Sagas actual story well at all. Big Star Wars fan but this movie disappoints me as a Star Wars movie... Star Wars has some big saga plot issues moving forward. Still got 2 movies to pull it back.. But I can't help but think this is the beginning of the end of the Star Wars we all actually loved. Try to appeal to people who hate on big chunks of the Sagas story is a massive mistake and its alienated the hardcore fans of the whole Saga. :(
+Luke Lewis I understand not liking the more "derivative" elements of the film and not liking it as a whole, but the beginning of the end of Star Wars? The movie has gotten incredible reception from both core and hardcore fans, sure there is a percentage that may not like it such as you, but to spell doom and gloom from one movie? If the negative reception and declining box office of the prequels (which I enjoyed) didn't kill the franchise, I'm doubting it'll start now. And if you're worried that the rest of the films will continue to be more in line with the originals, Kasdan has already confirmed that Johnson's plans for VIII are incredibly crazy and out there compared to TFA, so look forward to that. It has already been known that Disney is giving breathing room to the creators and writers and directors, and TFA was very much exactly what JJ and Kasdan wanted it to be and it shows. Rian Johnson has a very different feel to his directing and storytelling tastes (watch Ozymandias from Breaking Bad or Looper), and is also a huge prequel and original trilogy fan, so I'm sure we will see more of what it seems you're looking for... I just don't understand the doom and gloom rhetoric.
On 11:35 J.J says he didnt want "to return to tell the same story, but a BRAND NEW story"...unfortunately he did tell 90% the same story... The film was fun, but we also were thirsty for some decent Star Wars. The film should have been WAAAAY better written. Let's hope the other two are..
+The Therion Yup. You're 100% correct. tbh JJ Abrams is know to not be a strong creative writer. This is not his first time rehashing material. STAR TREK Into Darkness Super 8 (basically an ode to Spielberg 80s movies) LOST (poor writing issues) He even said in several interviews that he knows that people will see all the 'call backs' and that they wanted to take a step back to take a step forward. One of my fave movies of the year but by no means a perfect movie and hopefully we see more original content going forward
+theLupeXperience The thing is i am disappointed in Kasdan too because he was the main writer and we all thought he would deliver. I dont know if Disney preassured them into this copy-paste thing, but it doesnt seem so from what they are saying. It's a shame, all this time, all this money, all these talented people, and we get so many bad decisions on characters and plot.
+The Therion, both Kasdan and Abrams had said in different interviews that making TFA in a way that mirrors ANH was intentional. I think when he refers to new story he's talking about the new character arcs. He said in this interview that when they started they had to just look at the characters. "this is a man who does this....," "this is going to be a woman who does that...." sort of thing. So I think the story he is referring to as being new has more to do with the story arcs of the characters over all of the new films, not just this one.
+Star Ted Withamouse I dont know if it was intentional or because Disney wanted it (to play it safe), but it was A. a bad decision, and B. badly executed. It is one thing to make a similar story, but this is just copy-paste in several points. Also if he wanted to say they wanted to talk about character arcs he would just say character arcs. But even if he said one thing and meant another, some characters (at least in this film) were also badly written. I mean Han is wrong, because not only he is not Han anymore, he is too old and still went from war hero back to smuggler?? Really? That is considered a character developement?. Leia seems to have lost her spark and is shown to have no more Force abilities than 30 years ago. We need a damn good explanation of why Luke went to exile because it was completely out of character to do so. As for the new characters: I like Boyega but we also need a good explanation of why he abruptly "forgot" all his brainwashing and started caring about stormtroopers...and a little later he was killing them with no problem!! .... Rei was fine but they went crazy with her force powers. Without training she did things she couldnt have. You cant build up a character like that. Kylo was good but also they screwed up his power level. They start by showing him enormously strong (noone had ever stopped a blaster bolt in mid air), and they they show him weak. I mean...make up your mind at the very least. In any case, even the arcs of the new characters, in this 1st movie at least, are not "new". So i cant agree with what he said even if he meant that. Which i dont think he did mean just character arcs. Besides, if you add all the character arcs, that's...most of the whole story anyway, so he isnt talking of something very different anyway. ;)
I wonder if Gwen Christie knew, when this was filmed, that her character, Captain Phasma, is only in the movie for 38 seconds? :^P Anyway, I hear her character is going to play a much bigger role in episode 8. JW3HH
+JustWasted3HoursHere If she is alive. She was thrown in the trash compactor mins before the planet exploded.Yes it is possible but, she would have had to escape, get a ship, and fly away fast.

JW3HH
JustWasted3HoursHere. Well my friend. If you see this comment please respond. Well Im guessing you saw The Last Jedi and what a train wreck that was. Captain Phasma dies and has like 5 minutes of screen time.

+Eye_Patch_Pirate ? "The Force Awakens" is on a very good way to redefine the term 'blockbuster': everybody went to see it. And that covers the idiots, as well.
a great many star wars fans are definitely idiots. Though I suspect some of them to be trekkie trolls seeking revenge on J.J Abrams for turning Star Trek into a good Star Wars movie and then after his star trek adventure making one of the best Star Wars movies ever.
Daniel Dang well if you look at the IMBD stats it is only a rough 5% of its users who really dislike the movie of which 2.2% gives it 1 out of 10 stars. It is really a minority who dislike the movie with a very big and loud voice though pasting their reviews and opinions on every conceivable platform. Most of them are men by the way who were very little when the prequels went into the cinema.c Most of them are also gamers by the way, which is by definition a very negative rant community.
+Eye_Patch_Pirate ? That's a reasonable explanation. I think, in this day and age, it is a very common thing to hate on something that is incredibly popular. The hype culture spawned many hating trolls to come out and be very vocal about their hate. RUclips channel "I HATE EVERYTHING" ironically surprisingly gives a very good rebuttal to haters of this movie, and it is something worth checking out. No matter how much hate this critically acclaimed, fun, and re-invigorating film gets, it won't change my opinion that this is my third favorite Star Wars film under Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope.
i was in denial about how much TFA was pushing the feminist propaganda machine. this interview reveals the truth. Now I'm worry about what is going to happen in the next two installments.
***** no, The profe is coming out what the movie was really about. I seen the movie 3 times and it does show how there pushing the feminist theology to the max. If they don't make Rey, Lukes' daughter then star war is dead.
Nestor Gonzalez. 3 years later mate. How do you feel now? Im guessing you saw the last jedi. They definitely pushed their leftist agenda in that movie.
7:30 Oh the irony!! How do you keep it fresh... more like, _how did you manage to shamelessly REHASH the same fucking story after 30 years without any balls or effort to try creating a all new story?_
+CapitalJ2 They got a $4 billion goal, which most likely was the culprit here; no chance of taking any risks, play it 100% safe at the expense of great potential. There are countless fan written scripts for VII, each blowing your mind harder than the next one. But being nothing more than a business, I'm sure we won't see any awesomeness in VIII or IX. Also, I feel like JJ got overpowered by the producer team, which she so proudly announced being 50% female. Who had the final word on the script? Knowing all this, I no longer wonder why VII sucked this hard; female producers, trying to please the audience by sucking a huge PC dick; female and black leads, rehashed story, tons of logical plot holes, contradicting motives... They had a team of women being dead serious about hitting a financial goal, so they could proudly rub it into everyone's face, that they too are capable of running a business successfully, hitting the $4 billion mark soon, _at the same time however_ *being completely blind to actually making a good movie!* Yes, we all get it, you go girls, good for you, get that money, etc... Now get the fuck off the Star Wars writers room, so we can at least get a good episode VIII and IX!
The Dude I didn't say that a majority liking it means that it's good, I'm just saying that I liked the movie, along with many others. It was a new story, a New Hope playing it safe... I felt rather cheated and my suspicion started when I witnessed a 3rd Death Star on the poster beforehand. Are original ideas extinct nowadays? No! Of course not. I'm a creative myself. The Force Awakens story was heavily derivative of Episode 4 for the wrong reasons, a facsimile, playing it safe. For example, I've played Star Wars console games with far better narrative originality. I know this a Skywalker story - but to waste the possibilities with the first of a new trilogy... I liked TFA, I just didn't love it. Rey and Finn were great and seriously loved how cool BB-8 was. Plenty there to like. But the plot? Contrived, obvious and glaringly unoriginal. I respect everyone's hard work in making TFA; I just hope Episode 8 tells a much more fresh, unpredictable story
+DislocatedDesign I'm in the same boat as you and have the same issues with it as you.. Throwing Georges story treatments out was the first sign that this was going to suck as a Star Wars movie. I agree with everything you've said. I wanted the Saga to continue... Not be rewritten by Disney to be a callback fest in plot, design and sound. Was disappointment one of the feelings that they wanted us to feel as well? Because i'm disappointed the Saga has been derailed.
Why was G.Christie even there? Her worthless character does not even show face in the movie. Phasma should be interrogated by Chewie not just thrown into trash compactor (maybe).

+David Oakes Success is relative. It was a UK-generated film, which tend to be considered commercially successful if they make their money back from cinema ticket sales, blu-ray/download sales and syndication. I understand in the US films are considered bombs if they don't make their money back in the cinema. Here in the UK so few films are made and film-makers struggle so much to just gain a budget that, so long as in the long run they can make their money back, then we're usually content with that.

I understand in the US films are considered bombs if they don't make their money back in the cinema. Here in the UK so few films are made and film-makers struggle so much to just gain a budget that, so long as in the long run they can make their money back, then we're usually content with that.
