Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will finally bring the Skywalker Saga to a close. As the long-awaited Star Wars Episode 9 blasts off into theaters, we sat down with director JJ Abrams to interview him about TROS and all this Star Wars, Rise of Skywalker and beyond. From the first the Rise of Skywalker trailer, fans have been in a fever pitch as to how the Star Wars saga will conclude, especially in light of the controversial reception to the The Last Jedi. As we prepare for our last adventure with Daily Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, our JJ Abrams interview about Episode IX.

how does Force teleportation work, why didn't Emperor heal Anakin, and why didn’t Rey fade away before she could be brought back?
Mark Thomas are you saying why didnt the emperor heal anakin when he was burned and cut up in rots? Cause I remember people always saying he could’ve brought a little extra life into to him to keep him going till they could fix him up when he puts his hand on him as the scene fades.
Mark Thomas The emperor didn’t heal Anakin because they weren’t a dyad in the force. He tried to make a dyad with Anakin, but it didn’t work. Rey didn’t fade away because the force “hadn’t taken her yet” according to the novelization.
@@echobase5774 it wasn't a novel, it was a movie. The audience should never be expected to read separate books for explanation. Movies are adapted from books to make sense of what is shown on screen. Confusing the audience is not good filmmaking.

I wished they had even more time, especially since they gotten rid of the Jurassic World Director/Writer. They got an extension to December 2019 and should've gotten much more time since then. The film we got to me is basically an Star Wars movie that has everything an Star Wars movie must check off on. An cherry on an cupcake. It could be better for sure.

Agree'd. TFA, TLJ and now TROS are entertaining movies. Even if some decisions are weird but hey it's a thrill of a ride. I think the people who are angered by any decision they make regarding the story have deep personal issues of their own life that have not been resolved. Star Wars is an escape for them.
@@bladelazoe Of course they're entertaining movies, they've been created by the great disney after all. That's not the point. People are disappointed because star wars is not just some adventure of characters like marvel movies. It has a lot more story potential thanks to the world that was created mostly by fans.
This trilogy has been played safely, by making an adventure story similar to OT, but with lack of anything unique. The most ambitious one was the last jedi, but seeing how most of the plot was "fixed" in TROS, i dont think it was planned. I'm not trying to defend those idiots who scream bunch of stuff about feminism in these movies. Just want to point out that people have right to be angered by what came out of this new trilogy. Directors and everyone behind movies have to know that when they try to make something out of this kind of big franchise, the expectations are always going to be big.

I just want to say how much I love Rey as the protagonist. These movies have been directed by men yet she is not overly sexualized, she's not awkwardly better at everything than anyone else, she's treated the same as any male lead. No time is spent with others obsessing over her beauty or even mentioning it though she is incredibly beautiful. She's allowed to have feelings and love interests, flaws and anger, love, loneliness, compassion and strength and it just means so much to me to see this amazing character that doesn't feel like a false projection of womanhood. Thanks to JJ and the other amazing writers for writing one of the best female characters in cinema history. Its means a lot to me.

Are you watching the same three movies? Rey is constantly better than everyone at everything with no explanation. Better than Han with the Millenium Falcon, better than Luke and Yoda with the force, better than Kylo Ren with lightsaber and force power who has trained for years, better than Poe at piloting even though he is the pilot character. Who can relate to someone who is masterful at everything they do?
Your praise of her is rooted in either denial or complete ignorance of what happened in the movies...

I wouldn't say this was JJ's whole fault. If he was doing the Last Jedi the rise of the Skywalker would have been a good film. Remember Rian Johnson did The Last Jedi. What JJ had to do was try to fit the puzzle in. I will say this whole stupidity fault was Kathleen Kennedy
What JJ says at 11:31 angers me. As someone who has gone to the same small independent theater in his hometown since he was six, I can passionately say that JJ’s comment on screen resolution and size is not the case for most independent theaters in small cities. The Senator in Baltimore, MD has been one of the best viewing experiences for film I have ever been to. Set aside the fact that our theatre shows revivals of older films and supports local filmmakers such as myself, the theatre alone is a home for community. Compare that to the local Cinemark down the way and you’ll feel way differently about your viewing experience, regardless of how big the screen is. Just food for thought here.
I agree with you. I much prefer the smaller, independent theaters over the soulless multiplexes. Ironically, I’ve even watched the force awakens in my local theater with just about 80 people and it was a far better experience than the same movie two days later at a giant multiplex with like four times as many people. Ok, sure, I’m looking at this from a european perspective but over here I feel like those independent theaters are the ones that keep cinema going. They are the ones that are willing to show movies that would otherwise be overlooked (and they are usually the ones installing fancy new equipment such as Atmos or laser projectors as well!).
However, I do think he does have a point: I oftentimes wonder about the vast difference in image quality between my two go-to theaters. Both of them being independent btw. Wasn’t that the whole point of the digital cinema age, to make sure each presentation would meet a certain standard in quality? I can indeed understand people preferring their new 4K TV over a cinema that’s stuck with an unsharp, washed-out and dimm 2K image. I mean, we’re talking general public here. So I think JJ is mostly talking about the need for theaters to stay on level with home entertainment but they oftentimes fail to do so. Where I disagree with JJ is that he‘s claiming this is exclusively the case with small theaters. Well, no it isn‘t. They can be just as bad if not worse. Really, I think it’s mostly cost cutting from big theater chains. And it’s movies like Star Wars and Disney‘s policies that put theater owners under immense pressure, making it increasingly hard for independent theaters to keep their equipment up to date. So really, JJ is part of the problem.

DPRmonbebe crew my main problem was that it was 2 movies in one. It has a very fast pace. This is most likely because nothing significant happens in TLJ. I really liked the movie and this was my main problem

JJ Abrams killed the license, fortunately John Favreau to raise the bar very high, with an excellent series, which makes the movies bad!
He says he wanted it to "feel like a conclusion", yet alllll we got was pointless, token Finn saying "i can feel it" and wanting to tell Rey something. Then introducing 2 new female characters and hinting at their back stories. 🙄
The film had more lose ends than TLJ , at least Rian Wokeson killed everyone so there was no lose ends 😂

I imagine he felt the Sequel Trilogy wasn't able to be saved so he just made a mixed bag clusterfuck of a film. I can't say how I would have saved it after TLJ so I guess I can't blame the guy.

Abrams you completely in-affectionate disturbance in the force, Star Wars did not need to be Borat’d. If they give you anything Star Wars related to do in the future it’ll hopefully be simple, maybe an extra, roasting marshmallows with Jar Jar in the re-do of the sequel trilogy.

Every pre-screening review I've seen so far has had the same issue. "This movie makes Episodes 1-6 obsolete now and pointless. I can't believe they put "that" scene in there.." I'm very curious what this scene is, and if this is the same thing JJ was referring to when he said they had to stop trying to perfect the one thing they were trying to get across, put their pencils down and just be happy with what they have. Makes me wonder 🤔🤨
I've seen the movie and I don't understand what they mean, If anything this movie pays tribute to all the movies that came before it.
@@bladelazoe They mean the part where Rey destroys Palpatine. It doesn't make sense because Anakin was the Chosen One to bring balance to the Force and kill Palpatine, but then Rey went and did the job herself, making Anakin's sacrifice moot.

This film was a disgrace! He wants to be a big time director, then he should acknowledge the mess that he put on screen..I refuse to believe a man as talented as him doesn't know how BAD OF A STAR WARS FILM this is. It is things thrown together , that make no sense. The story dose not even exist in this film..it's like they said let's just puts the coolest things we can think of on screen it doesn't have to make sense, it doesn't have to fit in this film, it doesn't even have to fit in the star wars universe... This was WORSE than the last jedi........And I think he knows it.

How a company can do such an amazing job with the marvel universe (except captain marvel, which didn’t even make sense) with stories all connected to a giant epic finale, yet couldn’t even write a descent star wars story , it’s a joke.
Months after its release, I'm still glad J.J didn't waste time in explaining how Palpatine returned. I'm actually glad he didn't waste time at all. Palpatine is back, there's a giant fleet and we have 16 hours to stop it. Faster and intense. I don't need to know how Palpatine had a son, he has a son and he made love with a woman who had Rey and they sold her to protect her from evil itself.
Yes, it's ridiculous, these movies are all ridiculous, I don't know why we hold them to such high standards.

JJ Abrams is a bad director. He uses nostalgia and steals (inspirational, he calls it) from previous films. He did this with Star Trek, Mad Max and the Star Wars Trilogy.
He is talented at producing spectacle but he plagarises and it shows.
