FORMAT CHANGE: WCBS 880 Signs Off, WHSQ Signs On

- This is an unedited aircheck of the final minute of WCBS 880 News, followed by a minute of silence, and then ESPN New York taking over at 12:01AM.
Wayne Cabot and Paul Murnane did an incredible job sending off WCBS, with a montage of the station's news themes and a call out many of WCBS's notable figures. Cabot then signed the station off with one final Legal ID at the top of the hour.
This high quality broadcast was from 101.1 WCBS-FM HD2. What is noteworthy is that the HD2 feed did NOT have the WHSQ Legal ID at 12:01AM, only the 880 AM feed had it.

What a waste of a perfectly good radio station. Like we really need another sports formatted station.
It's an end of an era. I preferred WCBS's approach to news over WINS. Thanks for the memories and farewell to WCBS 880.

Farewell WCBS. A beautiful sign off. As a fan of the AM dial, this is just one more nail in the coffin. ESPN radio is like a plague - pure garbage.

I think WINS will still be around for a long time. I guess Audacy felt that there was not enough room for two all-news stations anymore.
Nah, WINS makes too much money, and is the strongest of the two news radio brands under Audacy.
Speaking of Musicradio 77 WABC, "Imagine" was the last song played on the station by the late Dan Ingram before the switch to Talkradio 77 WABC in 1982.

Seems like the biggest and most popular stations are the ones we keep loosing like WNEW AM, Musicradio 77 WABC, WHN ? and now WCBS newsradio 88 and probably a few more I can not remember at the moment. Thanks for recording and posting this signoff

Where was the WHSQ ID, I heard it on 880 AM
I also listened to the flip on WCBS 101.1 HD2, but didn't hear the legal ID either. Very strange indeed.
I was listening on 880 and didn't hear a WHSQ ID either.
Sad that this happened. Probably not going to be the last goodbye for the audacy news and news talk stations across the country

WHSQ is considered as a separate station from WCBS.
Now KCBS 740 San Francisco, CA / KNX 1070 Los Angeles, CA / WBBM 780 Chicago, IL / KYW 1060 Philadelphia, PA & the rest of the CBS News AM stations across the USA will end & change to ESPN Radio with in the next few weeks. 98.7 FM in New York is also ESPN Radio & at the end of the month it will change format & WSHQ 880 ESPN Radio will also be on WCBS FM 101.1 HD 2 as well. -Cheers!
