Man, this is probably the most thorough and well explained Command tutorial I’ve seen, great work! The audio quality is also a step above a lot of tutorials. I’ve been playing since CMANO but upgraded to CMO with TacView on release and am still picking up new tips all the time.
Thanks for the great content. Your tutorials are the best around, sadly the community of this game is small and there are not many resources for newcomers.
Excellent videos. The sawtooth method wouldn't work if the SAM battery was set to only fire within a no escape zone envelope, or to revert to that after a few fake outs. Which is what any human commander would have it do, and that's another reason why it's such a bummer CMANO never got multiplayer in V2......
Alternate video title: "Wild Weasels Debunk Flat Earth" (Thanks for this series, it's great-I'm finally getting into this game and it's absolutely delightful, I'd been missing out)
I'm going to guess that, back in the day, triangulating those radar positions was the job of some harassed staff officer back at base, after being fed a diet of aircraft positions, radar bearings, and signal strengths.
This was a very buggy early release of CMO, but most of the altitude control bugs have been fixed. Also, that SA-5 should really have hade a home-on-jam capability, which would have made this much more difficult.
If you're not using ARMs to destroy a SAM site then how do you target individual radars in a SAM unit (individual mounts)? I've been trying to take out SA-2 sites with SLAMs but they just end up targeting and taking out the single rail launchers.
The sat can be defeated usually by using terrain masking to get into its minimum range or using terrain to simply run it out of missiles. ARMs are very effective against the SA5. The SA20 is another story, I've seen very creative strategies ranging from using up the batteries ammo on bad shots through using stealth planes dropping regular bombs. One mistake I always make is attacking the SAM when there are easier to hit and more valuable targets available.
@@PGatcomb Thanks for the reply. I was playing Operation Folgore and had to penetrate Libyan air defense using a couple of Italian Tornados. The thing is, northern Libya is just too flat for any meaningful terrain-based tactics. I have successfully penetrated the SA-5s by varying the flight altitude as shown in your video but this tactic drains a lot of fuel and is not very satisfying to watch :/
ok i have read and tried everything i can get my hands on and in CMO Brother against brother i cannot off load my troops at all. hover , terrain following off, min altitude i cannot figure it out and it is killing me. can you do a specific video for this scenerio?? i am going to pitch my computer. very frustrated.
have you had any success? the ui is a little different now but I can just right click the unit and select unload cargo, or do a cargo delivery mission. If it doesn't do anything it may be because the troops must be loaded via the Cargo Ops button at the AB or Carrier
I have to study, i have to get in shape, I have to do many things, but instead of that, I'm here, learning about SAMs and how to defeat them

These are much too good to only have 33 views. Really appreciate your work!

HOLY! I've been a fan of sim games for a while now, and this is probably one of the most descriptive videos ever.

Great! Love the Tornado too!
I had a great deal of good times hanging out with Tornado pilots in the UK, a thousand years ago.

On the OECM scenario, why didn't the other SAM's in the area not attack the planes as they surely would have not been jammed?
I’m paying now attention on how to defeat Sam sites than math
whats the best way to engage a strategic sam site (say SA5 or SA20) if there are no ECM and cruise missiles?

@@fraptochivonsky2558 with a plane like the tornado you can simply under fly the SA5 because it needs a minimum target height.

Never heard chaparral said that way.
Was this fixed in the latest update?
I cant speak for the development team, but what specifically were you referring to?
@@PGatcomb Probably your problems with setting your first sortie's altitude.
EDIT: And probably the AI pilots failing to stay at assigned altitude.
@@PGatcomb Curious about that too. Looking to buy and also looking at developer support (AI pilots failing to stay at their assigned altitudes)
@@man_vs_life there was an item on the last changelog about pilots staying at the correct altitude so we may be in better shape now.
@@PGatcomb Cool. Thx for your replies.
do you know a radar visual tool like the one u used for horizon at ruclips.net/video/-Ivt6KX_onQ/видео.html ?
The throttle/alt settings interface is spectacularly messed up compared to CMANO. Really terrible UI.
What is different when compared to CMANO?
Imagine paying close to two hundred bucks (CDN) for both programs (games) and they still don`t work right. What a joke.
