Puma, Drumeo, now a Sweetwater affiliate?! Rob, the Lord is mightily Blessing you my friend. He is causing you to "ride" the high hills. We're all so proud of you, and we love you❤️
Travel golf bag cases made of hard plastic are a great way to transport hardware. They have wheels and other equipment can be stacked on top of them. They can be found used and are inexpensive compared to the hardware bags/cases marketed to drummers.
I'll take all 10 of them Rob LOL. I had the time a quick release four symbols I sold with my old set. Wish I wouldn't have done that those were awesome. Got 2 Roc n Soc Thrones and I could sit a long time and think nothing of it. Just need a couple backrests. Add some Evans heads on my way old Tamas and my Tom's sounded fantastic. I use promark 747 Hickory sticks they feel just right. You can thank Neil Peart for that one. And I'd love to get some drum shoes but I'm afraid they are going to feel too heavy after being in my stocking feet all these years.
One of my favorite things are the Evans E-rings. I have the Gibraltar quick-release clutch. Bought this about 6 months ago, prior to discovering your video. Really simplifies hi-hat setup. I haven’t looked back. I don’t know about the stand since I already have some, but will check out the ultralights. I pretty much already have my stands because I really don’t travels with the kit. It stays at church. For a stick bag. I compared a lot of them at Guitar Center. Vic Firth, DW, Meinl, ProMark, etc. I must say ProMark makes a very decent bag but but for the price and quality I went with Meinl. Material is durable and thick. Has medium-large zippers that look like they’d never jam up. You can pack 12 pairs of sticks and brushes easily. In fact like like variety so I have one back for my sticks and rods and another for my brushes. My first pair is sticks were ProMark and though I’m partial to ProMark I’ll use other brands. Another one of my favorites are the ProMark rods (cool rods, hot rods, lightning rods, thunder rods). They’re great for playing songs when you need heavier than a brush but lighter than a stick.
I'm glad when you pick up the Stage Custom tom 10:53. Give me good feeling that it (may) still relevant drum even for professional. Love you video man, even most of the list I just buy for myself anyway.
The Stage Custom is my regular gigging kit. Killer workhorse drums that won’t give you a heart attack when they get dropped or scratched 👌🏽 My PHX stays planted in the studio.
Funny story. The first time I ever used a Roc n Soc was in a fun time garage jam. I had to switch the kit around to lefty in a confined dark space and I ended up sitting on it sideways for about a half an hour before I even realized it. I guess that qualifies it as comfy. Bought one the next day. The little hydraulic height adjust lever (or whatever you call it) is killer too.
Rob I’ve been using many of these ideas. The ahead throne to put my phone in the splits and also extra stick for quick retreavel. Tks for all you do for drummers. Freddysdrums Greenville NC
BEATDOWN IN THE HOUSEEEEEE YEAHHHH!!! Much blessings in your musical journey. Sweetwater...👌 👋 and the rest is history. Keep of drumming...🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁👍👍👍🎧🎧🎧🎛🎛🎛
Hey Rob, can you make an updated video on “Hi hat dynamics”? You have an old one that is really good but it would be cool to see how you would do a lesson on it now years later. I think it is a really important topic!
Totally agree on #1 & 2 . But idk about the clutch on the gibraltar hihat thingy. But the part with the compressor fitting thingy is priceless.i have a bunch.
Hey Rob, I agree with you about the quick release clutch and cymbal toppers. I use the Gibraltar Quick Release clutch, and I use the Trick Quick Release cymbal toppers, which are the same concept as the Tama’s. They are a lifesaver with setup and tear down. I would say to add to the list of things I can’t leave to a gig without is my Ching ring, and depending on the gig, a sizzle to add to the ride cymbal. Great video man! Cheers!
From your channel, I have been using the UV1 heads and they are everything you describe. So nice when gigging at a different venue every week. They take temp changes well. Playing outdoor gigs into the night, they are the best! I also just got the Promark Rebound 5a with active grip and love them. One more. The Gibraltar quick-release hi-hat clutch, I have been using the Tama quick release but Gibraltar is easier to use and lets me use my leather washers!
Hey Rob thanks for all the g rest video’s. I’ve adopted your tuning technique and the kit sounds great, also tried the promark sticks and now I can’t live without them. Keep up the good work and keep those videos coming.
Hey Rob, Thank you for what you are doing! Your teaching is Rock Solid. No filler. Just the truth and what works! What kind of drum mikes do you recommend? Thank you in advance!
Hey, Brown! Thanks for the tip on DW Ultralight stands. I went from heavy duty stands to medium weight years ago, and it made a HUGE difference. (I'm still gigging at 69 years old.) So I'm really looking forward to trying out DW Ultralight cymbal and hi-hat stands. And Sweetwater has 'em FOR CHEAP! Thanks again.
Drum rug or carpet or mat even. I’ve got one with Velcro markers on that show where your stands and drums go. Makes set up easier and stops the dreaded bass drum slide.
Great tips Rob and love your channel. Didn’t know DW had a “Lite” series, but I did see some from Yamaha from a hi-grade aluminum nicely finished and flat based…light as a feather. You are the man! Will be buying your hoodie banning “1and 3 clapping.”
I’m surprised your not a fan of the Yamaha super light brushed aluminum hardware. Incredibly light, with a great look. Also very stable considering the light weight. Love your channel. Please keep the videos coming. So very informative.
I've used the DW stands for about 4 years now and they are amazingly strong and sturdy with my 22's, and I have always set them up so they are not flat, but I don't trust using them for my Meinl 26..... that's just too much! I also don't need the boom for these stands. Everything I've seen you do is fantastic from lessons to reviews! 9 pairs! C'mon Roberta! You know I'm kiddin' man! I just need a pair for starters, but I can't imagine that they are available in wide width. Thanks and Blessings Brother Rob!
Got myself a pair of those Promark sticks off the back of this video. Have to say after using them I'm now waiting for all my other sticks to break so I have an excuse to restock the stick bag.. Great recommendation 👍
Lol, I just watched you on drumeo and commented on the shoes! They are super comfortable and very light! I only wear mine when im on the kit, which is kind of a shame because they do look sharp!
My go to and I heard about it first from you is the EAD 10. Use it on every gig for my personal monitoring of my kit though in ears, I dont ask the sound guy for any drums in my cans. Gives me a funny look sometimes.
love your videos Rob. Very rarely do i watch drum videos from start to finish but you're a super chill and fascinating chap! as a bass player primarily, I recently ventured into the world of drums and you're videos have been very enlightening and outright entertaining. Love from Ireland brother, you're doing mighty work. Peace
hmm... kinda stunned, no mention of the "Practice Pad"? Which he has mentioned a quite bit in the past. Which to me is one of the best and most economical things to give a drummer at Christmas. That last, a l-o-n-g time, even if they have one, they can use another one for the office/work or to keep in the vehicle. Although kinda disagree with the ahead throne being most comfortable, my Roc-n-soc is a lot better than my Ahead split throne. The Ahead has a harder feel to it, but then again, to each his own. Now I got to go get me a pair of them sticks he has....
Paul Rivet- I bought the Electro pad a few months back and loved it so much that I just picked up the Percussion pad and love it even more. These things are a revelation. Especially for us drummers who are looking to simply augment our playing with sounds and not complicated loops and sequences. BraVO Roland. And they're super easy to mount almost anywhere on the kit.
The Gibraltar clutch is also really cool if you happen to be using somebody else's hi hat stand and their pool rod is fatter or thinner than the standard. This has happened to me several times, after which I searched for a universal clutch and found this one.
Great video as always Rob! Man, I love the Spinal Glide! Best throne I’ve ever had! Can get through a 4 hour gig with no problem! The KZ’s since I saw your first video about them, I bought the exact pair and haven’t looked back since! Got all my band mates to switch to them as well! Surprising to me though you being a Yamaha guy, that you’re not using the Crosstown Hardware? That stuffs even lighter, and to me sturdier than the DW stuff. A couple things I can’t go without are my Scorpion Percussion 5B Venom Grip sticks. Never had sticks last as long as those! And my DB Drum Shoes. I know they’re not Puma, so I don’t know what I’ve been doing with my life? But, they work for me!
Great ideas, Rob! Lots of these I use myself. I would also highly recommend Tama’s cymbal arm attachment MCA63EN. I’ve been using it for over 20 yrs now. Works perfectly when you need to use an extra cymbal stand but wouldn’t want to carry one, just pop it onto any available stand and adjust it :)
I did not know the active grip sticks came in a natural finish. I have been playing the black 5b’s for at least a year now and my biggest gripe is that they’re are black. Good to know - thanks man!
Man I love the cymbal toppers and the hi hat clutch! I have them at home and won’t go back to the wing nut topper or the standard hi hat situation. Toppers won’t come off and my hi hat never comes loose. You rock Rob keep jamming bro. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻
I never realized that Gibraltar clutch isn’t threaded! I have a DW clutch, and it got cross threaded the other day. Had a terrible time getting it off with two channel locks.
I absolutely swear by my Gibraltar Quick Release clutch. Also, the Gretsch Catalina Maple 10" snare is one of the road-worthy pieces of gear. I've taken absolutely everywhere with me as part of a mini drum kit. Sounds great cranked, or even with an old head on it for a phat sound.
I love my Pumas! I even wear them for fancy gigs! If the venue people are sticklers I just switch them out when the set is over! But normally nobody cares when they find out I’m the drummer.
Oh man. I just bought those sticks yesterday. Never heard of Them before and ohhggh man. Blew my mind. Love the feel better than any other stick I’ve used
Wow Rob, absolutely great list. I love the super light hardware as well. A fan of moongels as a stocking stuffer. Also use zero rings for controlling / adjusting snare sound. Also don’t forget the liveBPM appp which you introduced me to.
Some great ideas Rob! I do have to agree with Carl Upthegrove though! The Yamaha CrossTown hardware is much more stable than the flat base stands. The hi hat doesn't wobble any and the snare stand is also very solid. Also, positioning is somewhat easier with the tripods vs the flat base. I had already gotten Pearl lightweight cymbal stands(wish I had waited for the Cross Town!)..But it all makes toting the gear so much easier.. Those red Puma kicks are sweet!! But it seems that they have discontinued them😥 I do love the Tama quick release cymbal toppers! Anything that speeds up setup and teardown is a big PLUS!! I also dig the ProMark Active Grip Rebound 5A's... I have never had one leave my hand!!
Good show but I'll tell you the Yamaha Crosstown cymbal and ht-hat stands are absolutely the best stands I've ever played, and ultra light. Hight quality, super strong, super light and super beautiful. Much better than the DW's, honestly.
Rob, I'm surprised you don't have the Yamaha Crosstown lightweight hardware. I just bought some, per your recommendation from the week long livestream, and they're fantastic. I was in the same situation as you with desperately needing to lighten my load for setup and tear down on gigs. I love drum racks, but they're just not practical for gigs around town. They pair up nicely with my brand new Yamaha Stage Custom Birch kit in natural finish. I'm now a Yamaha convert, partially thanks to your help, my friend. #MaximumThumpification
Ordered 3 pair of the sticks...can't wait to try them..interesting...AND...all your picks are super cool...and good...I learned some gearhead stuff for sure. Thank you.
I switched to Yamaha Crosstown after using the Ultra Lights for a long time. Not everybody's cup of tea looks wise, and the stands mar easily if they are not bagged individually for transport ... but for me, far fewer issues overall.
It was a Gilbralter clutch. It should fit most stands. I use a standard Gilbralter clutch and it fits my DW and Tama Iron Cobra stands as well as any backline stands I've ever used.
Some good ideas on the video Rob 👍 not mentioned but I like the Evans Hydraulic heads. I play a lot of rock songs and I’m really impressed by their sound on my kit 🥁
Love my Crosstown hardware, but no spring adjustment on the Hi hat stand is a design failure in my opinion. I play Paiste Signatures, and the Dark crispy 13"i have, the top cymbal pulls the central rod down a lot.As for the Spinal G glide and gibraltar quick release clutch, time saving n great solid design, cheers Rob😊😁😁
Thank you for confirming the AHEAD drum throne for me. I’ve really wanted to use this throne but heard a few contrary opinions. So this 100% confirms it Thanks 🙏🤘🏻
This is uncanny. My kids just texted asking what I want for Christmas about a minute into this video. I was unhappy in my playing several months ago and saw your comment about 'grooving is job one'. It was just what I had to hear so I could quit thinking about stuff like whether my shuffle ride was precise enough. (glad that sh^t is over) Was thinking about my weak hand and like clockwork your weak hand video appeared like magic. (towel over the practice pad.. perfect!!) Dude. This mind reading stuff is kind of freaking me out over here. You got special powers or something? Please remember to always use them for good and not for evil.
For me it's a pair of Sketchers gel sole slip ons that I bought to use as house slippers. Admittedly not all that cool, (black mesh with white bottom) but, super lightweight and smooth on the bottom.
Rob I've been using the DW 6000 for over a year! Best gigging hardware! The bag in under 20lbs. I did buy the Gibraltar hi hat clutch a while ago I love it. Sorry can't do the Pumas it's either Chuck Taylor Converse or vans. 😁🥁
Puma, Drumeo, now a Sweetwater affiliate?! Rob, the Lord is mightily Blessing you my friend. He is causing you to "ride" the high hills. We're all so proud of you, and we love you❤️
Thanks much, man 🙂🙏🏽 For a crappy year, it’s been quite a good one!
Travel golf bag cases made of hard plastic are a great way to transport hardware. They have wheels and other equipment can be stacked on top of them. They can be found used and are inexpensive compared to the hardware bags/cases marketed to drummers.
Great tip! 👍
Yeah I got one from goodwill for $10 holds all my hardware. Heavy as hell once full though but you make 1 trip and can roll it in too.
Just want to say that your Drumeo video "Improve your pocket overnight" was a game changer for me. Thank you!
Sane here
I was an early adopter of the DW Ultra Light.... then I found the Yamaha CrossTown..... I've switched
Me too. Bought the whole DW set. Cymbal stands are great. Hi hat stand is so so. Snare stand is pretty weak.
As someone who's suffered with lower back issues for 20 years, I can't say enough good things about the Spinal Glide Throne; saved my drumming career.
I'm glad when you pick up the Stage Custom tom 10:53. Give me good feeling that it (may) still relevant drum even for professional.

The Stage Custom is my regular gigging kit. Killer workhorse drums that won’t give you a heart attack when they get dropped or scratched 👌🏽 My PHX stays planted in the studio.
Totally agree about the seat, wicked thing!
Your drumeo appearance was one of the very best. Yamaha crosstown stands are lighter. I have both and use both all the time.
Hey Rob, you did quite an outstanding job on Drumeo. I like this video as it just gave a few things to add to my Christmas list.
Tama *also* makes a really nice quick-release hi-hat clutch.
I much prefer the Gibralter one. Didn't like Tama at all.
The Tama is so goos
Thanks rob for all your teachings.
Got a Roc n Soc, my butt has never been happier.
That's another killer one
@@RobBeatdownBrown Yep it is, Merry Christmas!

Congrats on sweetwater Rob. Love u man. Great drummer and human being. I recommend your vids to all my students. Keep up the great work .

Yesss!! The promark rebound 5A sticks are great. I use them for the past 2 months and I love them man. I recommend them as well
The Ahead spinal glide is the best investment I've done so far, another item I couldn't do without is the Tama Iron Cobra double pedal!!!

Got the spinal glide seat as well as the pork pie leopard top seat, love em both.I’ve bought a lot of stuff that rob endorsed happy with all of it
I picked up the Roland SPD-One WAV pad a couple weeks ago. Very impressive and it's small enough to put anywhere around the kit! Highly recommended.

great video, cant believe you didnt have your evans practice pad in there lol!
Totally agree with the BFSD, although I use mine for my floor tom, gets a killer low thud, almost like a small bass drum.
While watching your video I ordered the sticks you recommended! Love your videos and your drumming,

Hey Rob does the Tama hi hat clutch fit for any hi hat stands or just specifically for Tama?
It was a Gilbralter clutch. It should fit most stands. I use a standard Gilbralter clutch and it fits my DW and Tama Iron Cobra stands as well as any backline stands I've ever used.
Great product advice Rob. Love your tutorials also. I hope I can source some of these items in the uk.
Rob, your selling that merch hard. Haha! Those UV2's are legit. I hope there's a shoe deal for you in the future, just like James Harden.😃 Peace.
I love my cup holder that clamps to my hi hat stand. Several companies make them. I think mine is by Da’dario.
Some good ideas on the video Rob 👍 not mentioned but I like the Evans Hydraulic heads. I play a lot of rock songs and I’m really impressed by their sound on my kit 🥁
Mine would be:
Evans emad batter 22".
Vic firth regular 5A and 5B hickory.
Gibraltar quick release hi hat clutch.
Cool video Rob! Been following you for a few months now. Thank you for all the tips!
This is great! None of these things are particulary sexy but they're just as important as drums and cymbals
My Paiste dark energy splashes. Or just all my Paiste cymbals for that matter :)
As soon as I tried those 5A Rebounds a couple years ago, I knew they were the perfect stick for me. Haven’t tried anything else.
Thank you for confirming the AHEAD drum throne for me. I’ve really wanted to use this throne but heard a few contrary opinions. So this 100% confirms it
Thanks 🙏🤘🏻
Drumeo drop it like it's Hot🔥🔥🔥 From humble to Hollywood, Chill Rob B, stayin' grounded in the beats🙏🙏🙏.
Rob I've been using the DW 6000 for over a year! Best gigging hardware!
The bag in under 20lbs. I did buy the Gibraltar hi hat clutch a while ago I love it. Sorry can't do the Pumas it's either Chuck Taylor Converse or vans. 😁🥁
Salute to the Chucks & VANS...but them Pumas are just too sexy 🏆
Thanks for the great tips🤘🏻🥁👍🏻
The Tama cymbal tops are a must bro. Great video Rob. 🤘
One thing I can’t live without is moon gel
I have been using Puma's drift cat for 15 years. I have tried other sneakers, but I have never seen better for training. =))
My favourite thing is my Rooted in Rhythm Hoodie. I may be a beginner but I look good lol.
👊🏽😄
Sweetwater rocks.
Great suggestions! Thank you.
