I immediately realized someone had informed him they were not changing anything back. Which came out two days later in the news. It makes me question the ownership right out the gate. Welcome to the middle. Doesn't this all seem like quite a bit of intensity over the name of a sports team? The actual team hasn't gone anywhere and it's history hasn't gone anywhere. Now, go look at some of the values of the people fighting so intensely to keep a slur for the name of a professional football team. Did they also oppose the renaming of southern military bases in the south? Did they also oppose being asked to wear a mask to slow the spread of a virus throughout their community? The name isn't coming back. That's fine. Life will go on.
Here's my point a petition is not going to do it. The sponsors want to see the Native Americans to come out and counter protest just like the ones who want it changed. How come they didn't show up when the name was changed from Redskins
@@whoaitstu exactly my point why some have to go to them and ask is the name ok. Folks need to remember the ones who protested the name they did it for decades how come the ones who wanted to keep the name wasn't out there especially when the name was changed.
So how ever shouts the loudest gets their way. Most of the Native tribes still around today have way more important things to deal with then some NFL's team name. Many have said it was to small of a thing to even really think about it. These days a lot of the tribble leaders don't even want to invest time in talking about it. The Five Nations tribble leader was the one in the later 90's that was the most vocal about it and as the leader spoke for "all" of the Five Tribes. Then they got three new casino deals and the name thing for the most part went away. It seemed to only come up every four years till 2016 when this new culture war really came to the forefront in the main stream media. If Dan had been a better owner and not brought so much negative press and disgracing the team and team name. The league never would have force a change. Even as of 2018 there were at least three Native Lands schools with Redskins as there own teem mascot. People seem to forget that many of the Native Tribes don't get along with other native tribes as they were waring with each other long before the settlers showed up. Just ask a Native Blackfoot even today to say something nice about a Crow and then ask a Native Shoshone about they think of the Blackfeet. Many of people of the native tribbles that still exists today just don't really find the NFL all that important to talk about today.

I was a die hard Redskins fan my entire life, and i did my senior thesis on this exact debate. I went to Indian Reservations and asked many how they felt about time and whether or not they were offended by it and not only did they say that they love the name, but they said the only thing that they’re offended about is non-native Americans telling them what offends them. It means pride and honor to them, not skin. A native american came up with the logo for the Redskins. I have and will always have a empty feeling, no favorite NFL team, and disgust over this unless it is changed back. Let’s face it, politics did everything they possibly could to change the name as part of cancel culture…to act as if Native Americans don’t exist and the history of them never happened. since it took so long for them to rid of the name, it would take the on a miracle for the name to go back. It would mean the world to me if it did come back as the emblem is a symbol of my childhood, and watching games with my father and it’s what football is to me. If it did really truly offend, say 90% say if the polls were reversed, then despite my love for the emblem, I would agree that it does need to change however, they changed it for all the wrong reasons, and asked all the wrong people, and it was changed by all the wrong people.

He is a good dude. It has been a pleasure to be known Tony you did a great job with the petition. However you are two years too late. This great stuff. I believe Jason will reach out to him.
The Washington Commanders’ president, Jason Wright, would like to have a new stadium. And some of Corporate America companies will help the team make that happen unless the team’s nickname be changed from “Redskins” to “Commanders”. They don’t want the Native Americans’ History be connected or stamped to the team. In order for the Washington Commanders to receive a new stadium, the nickname “Redskins” would have to go. So, those Corporate America companies devise a plan to change the name. They probably said together, “Let’s say that the Native Americans want the name ‘Redskins’ changed. That it is an offense to our heritage and history.” Therefore, they cooked up that story and proclaimed it to the media. And that’s how I believe they change the name. The bottom-line is that it wasn’t an offense to the Native Americans, but an offense to those Corporate America companies. Let us fans stand with the Native Americans and fight for the name to be change back to “REDSKINS”!
SInce he wants to point out that Tony isn't Native American I can't help but point out that neither were the people pushing for the name change. We have known this all along and it's time for people to wake up and see for yourself how many Native Americans are actually offended by the name....it's not very many. Change it back
This is how you bring back the Native American silhouette on Washington's helmet. Rename the Commanders to the First Nations of Washington. This country originated from the Delaware and the Iroquois Nation (s) and Philly, PA if you grandfather the laws, it's still the capital of this Nation. Washington, DC (1871 Act of DC) is corporate. But first go to the First Nations and ask permission. You've never honored a treaty with those people. Maybe if you do this the right way. The NFL could at least promote some type of healing. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to articulate.
They’re after all Native Names and imagery. Chiefs were eradicated the week before. Ny is eliminating every Name and all imagery. Now they’re emptying Native museum exhibits. Time to see what’s going on all around you.

The only way Redskins or any other Native American Logo comes back is if the Harris Ownership Group adds Tribal Leaders from Organizations like the NCAI into the ownership group and profit shares with their communities. It would be an ultimate sign of good faith and solidarity with our indigenous brothers and sisters. Until then, RIP Redskins. - Written by a die hard Washington Football Fan!!!
Words have meaning. For some reason the term Redskins seems positive and not pejorative though on the surface might appear to be the latter. Surely hype terms Chiefs, Breves, Warriors are positive.

The commanders should get attendance like panthers just got this past weekend. 12/17/23 is a game that tickets were selling from $5.00 to $0.45 and could not sell them then.
His opinion doesn't matter because he's a white man and people want to hear from a Native Americans and if some Native Americans say it's offensives, let it go.
Thank you and noticed he named high schools with the same names as pro teams that got to keep their names I guess the next expansion team name should be the black faces
No chance in hell. Sorry. The projection down the road for legal cost to the franchise ALONE prohibit this from EVER happening. However, I would NOT be shocked to learn that some tribal councils weren't having some serious discussions about approaching the team. A serious contract that would bring serious revenue into a tribe, in a respectful and educational manner, wouldn't be dismissed out of hand. And, a logo designed and approved by such a council, might heal some old wounds. What we can ALL agree on is that "The Commodes" logos are about to be flushed.
My attitude is: Redwolves or forget about it. Personally, I don't have a problem with Commanders. (I would've preferred Centurions or Sentinels, but whatever.) Candidly, I think the team won't be in a rush to alter the current nickname. Moreover, I think some uniform and logo tweaks could make a significant difference to the status quo.

Even after I moved back to the east coast, I was told to NOT bring any Redskins gear with me when I visited. Let it go. The term Redskins IS derogatory to a large amount of their populace. THAT is why the money talked and said change the name or we wont sponsor. We cant go back, if we do we get no stadium in D.C. and Nike, Reebok, UnderArmor, Gatorade, Coke and Pepsi, not to mention several beer magnates all stated they would not allow their products to be associated with the name. @@mallurypollard7815vast majority say otherwise. Can't win them all.
Wow, all these folks who think restoring a hurtful, racist name will provide a clean slate for a franchise greatly diminished by shitty (former) owner Dan Snyder. How about rooting for your franchise to restore its reputation as a true contender in the NFC? Priorities…
Their reputation has been in the gutter even before Snyder bought the team.
They got bad after 1991 anyway
Yeah, while we asking, lets petition the govt to give RFK Stadium back to the Redskins prompto and completely upgrade the transit system while they're at it.
The Redskins never owned the land.

This just comes to show that “Commanders” divided this team fan-dom more than anything else. Had Snyder actually listened to the majority vote and gave us RedWolves I’d guarantee we aren’t in this juncture right now 🤦♂️. Even when Snyder is gone his icky presence still bothers the masses.
I could live with Redwolves. However, the Minnesota Timberwolves were the ones who objected, and they probably still would, meaning Harris might have to sue them.
@@FlorioDerio-yy1yp If there is anything I’ve learned in my life its that the Words of Daniel Snyder can NOT be trusted and a dollar amount can ALWAYS make things happen and disappear. RedWolves can happen if ownership wants it too. I believe the Harris group listens to fans and Harris will use the resources possible to make in happen if majority of fans let him know.
At least name it Indians. But still same boat. But red wolves alright. That history Cowboys vs Indians only thing bring that rivalry got be with Indian vs Cowboys. I hope redskins name come back.

Being a lifelong Redskin fan of probably 50 years and a season-ticket holder of 20 years who gave up his tickets once they change the name. That has signed the petition. Yearly, I get a call from the team to see if I want to re-up my tickets. I give them the same reply, I give them every year. When an agent called me from the team last week and I spoke to him. I told him that if they change the name back to Reskins I was a definite sale and please put my name somewhere so if they do change the name back to the Redskins to please give me a call. This time, the sales agent for the Commanders caught an attitude and started to demean me, after trying to get me to buy right now, and I would not bite. I immediately realized someone had informed him they were not changing anything back. Which came out two days later in the news. It makes me question the ownership right out the gate. The only way the NFL or the DC franchise will ever see a dime of my money again, is if they rename the team to Redskins. This is coming from a season-ticket holder of every franchise in DC at some point, over my lifetime.HTTR!!!
Call them the Washington Blackskins to honor African Americans instead? Or Washington Yellowskins to honor Asians? That way white people can paint their faces yellow and black each week.

I am a politically middle of the road Steelers fan and have often wondered if it was extreme leftist that caused this issue. The only thing I thought was offensive sports thing I ever supported was the old Cleveland baseball logo change. I really hope Washington gets your history back.
This is very true. Things can get going if they actually speak out and there has to be as many as that spoke out against it.
OMG wtf is wrong with some of you people?? NOBODY came out because it was 2020 and 2 things were going on at the time, Covid and all that woke cancel culture. Well now things are swinging back into a more realistic conservative country again, the time is now. Let's get our name back!!!
@@larzakalazerath6655absolutely 100% right, it’s ultimately not important. It would be great and MOST PEOPLE NFL fans want Redskins, but they didn’t fight it, was surprising: now it’s too late, forget it, the name is G O N E, which really sux. One of the most beautiful logos in the league along with the name.
No matter what the outcome of it is, someone is going to like it and someone is going to dislike it.
I only wanna hear the Native Americans speak on the issue. It should’ve been their call and their call only, from the jump.
They did speak on the issue and the majority of them were ignored for the sake of the few...like he said earlier. 90% of Natives polled were either indifferent or happy with the name.
Look into what NAGA is saying if you care. Even then you probably wont care.
@@miterbenisdurty3862 Even if NAGA supports it, it still seems like there’s a significant percentage of Native Americans against it. Maybe if it was 90% yay 10% nay, I’d see your point but it seems like it’s 65% with it, 35% against it. For that reason, there’s not enough unity and we should move on from the name.

A logo design approved by the native, you do know the Redskins logo was created by a native of the Blackfeet Tribe
