It’s clear that the school is chaotic to the point where they have no more control over the kids. That happens when kids are allowed to get away with things time after time to the point where schools become a circus.

When I say I “screamed” I screamed so loud all the kids in the bus was covering their ears. He was “VERY” scared and was in tears.

I'm shocked the school allowed physical assaults too, I hope those kids were suspended at the very least. The best thing a kid can do if they see another kid being bullied is to simply tell the bullies to leave that kid alone or stand up for them in some other way and maybe try to be their friend. I've seen it work. A parent or teacher could say something over and over and the bully won't care, but if another kid says something, it can be so helpful. It may not always help, but a lot of times it does. Parents and teachers can encourage this too. My heart is broken for this beautiful family, I hope they find peace.

If there is clear evidence that someone took their life due to abuse. The abuser should be held responsible.
These kids should not be allowed to attend school. Let them be home school. The city/state should however provide required mental counseling to these kids to find out why they abused this young boy, make sure there isn't abuse at home, and to help direct them into a non-violent life.
School admins who didn't do anything should be held accountable and lose their jobs. Small price after this family lost their son. Maybe more schools would do something if they knew they would be held responsible. All schools should have a contingency plan on what to do and how to handle school bullies. It's 2024. How many times have we been through this? Why are these kids still allowed to attend school?? And they're bullying another kid. Suspend the bullies. Let them be home-schooled until they know how to behave and treat others. And send them to mental health counseling. The victim should receive free mental health counseling too. The trouble is not with these boys, it's with these bullies. Thank you News Nation for covering this story so closely. Maybe the school and other schools will finally do something, Parents need to petition until they do!

All schools talk "zero tolerance" concerning bullying. There are assemblies, and posters are plastered everywhere. But it seems that little to no actual *action* ever takes place when the rules are violated. This is outrageously tragic. And so many commenters blaming the parents, or telling them to homeschool or move away, or whatever - this is not the answer. Bullies will continue to the next child and the next, unabated. The school has a responsibility for the safety and well-being of every student in their charge. We don't need to blame the victims, who have suffered horrendously and will be blaming themselves enough for eternity; when it is not their fault. As a former educator and a mother and now grandmother, I know we must demand REAL accountability at every level of the school system. I wish strength and courage to Sammy's family. i was horribly bullied as a child, to the point i was hospitalized 3 times before high school. it happened for YEARS. police did nothing, the other parents did nothing, the school did nothing. I survived it but it affected me in profound ways. fast forward to last year. when I beat my roomate to within an inch of his life for trying to bully and attack me. my message to kids being bullied is simple. defend yourself by any means necessary, learn to defend yourself, chances are you won't be smaller than the bullies once you reach adulthood. sometimes, unfortunately, violence is the only answer. if your parents are trying to teach you to never use violence, they are simply mistaken, bullies only understand when you beat their ass. this school's administrators and staff should ALL be held accountable, sometimes inaction is a crime. the bullies also need to be charged with their crimes. not just let them keep doing what they're doing.

So true, I had no choice but to teach my kids an eye is more than okay for an eye, once I figured out no one would do jackshit if they were bullied. And they somehow survived and are both in university now. Today, I would certainly home school my child at any cost in this unbelievable situation.

It's not that simple. I was bullied for much of my time in school. Thing is, it wasn't one bully - it was usually a group of them. Any effort on my part to fight back would have ended very badly for me, and the bullies wouldn't have been held accountable. In fact, I'm pretty sure they'd have suspended me as the aggressor, even if I was defending myself. I wasn't taught any sort of non-violence, but if it's you against a group, self preservation kicks in.

It horrible to be picked on because children lose the confidence, self esteem, self worth, don’t want to go to school, and have a hard time learning.

This story is just crushing my heart💔💔💔💔💔💔Makes me sick 🤢There should be absolutely no tolerance ,ZERO !!!!! for bullying . Kids should be immediately punished and Parents Notified. The School, & children who bullied should be held accountable . These things either we teach our kids by how we treat or talk about others or as a parent are not monitoring our children outside influences. No precious little child should ever have to go through that. My daughter is over 40 yrs old & it scared her for life because of bullies , Because she was a size 12 ( a Beautiful young girl) insead of a 0 or 2.... She homeschools her kids because of how she was treated in middle school. This family lost a special treasure because some Kid though they were tough or cool.... This happened to my child at recess while teachers stood on the other side of a building on the grounds to keep themselves out of the wind. This is what they call supervision? Then when I addressed them about the bullying, what did they do? They stood up for the bullies and made excuses for them. My child has a learning disability, these teachers did not have the capabilities to mentor children and decided the bullying was justified because a child is disabled. Please give the parents a way to place their children in a safe and healthy environment where their education is promoted and respect toward others is encouraged and necessary

This is stupid, you report the bullying to staff members, and they never do anything about it, and at that point, the victim has no choice but to act in self defense, and when he/she does so, he/she gets blamed and disciplined for it, and even suspended for acting in self defense, and self defense is NOT illegal, but bullying victims and suspending victims for self defense are both illegal, yet those staff members get away with it as well as bullies get away with bullying, and it's not fair to the victims, that horrid nonsense has GOT TO STOP!!!

It goes on in workplaces between adults who should know better. I've seen it happen. Maybe the principal of schools would address this issue by educating children not to do it.

Sure, the bullies and the bullies' families need accountability accountability, but if your own child is constantly bullied, stop sending them back into it time and time again. If you see the school isn't doing anything, get your child out of it. Contact the police if the school isn't doing anything. Don't be the next parents to go through through this, while expecting the school to fix it.

It happened off the school ground and nobody was able to see it quickly. My friend's niece never got bullied again. This is a tragedy. And this sort of thing has been going on for decades. I was bullied in school. I asked my parents if I could see the school psychologist. They said "No, you don't need that. Ignore them and they'll stop." They did stop, after 5 years. After the school shootings in Littleton, CO, I wrote a song called "If They Had Asked Me" about this ongoing problem. You can find the song online. I teach social-emotional skills, but it's very hard to get that kind of program into the schools.

School staff unfortunately don't do anything to make bullying stop because they don't want to reprimand bullies in their desire to be liked by all their students, including bullies. Showcases their lack of courage and moral clarity. If you know one of your students is bullying another student, your responsability as an adult is to make sure this situation stops and never happens again. Being "liked" by the bully should be the least of your concern as a teacher or principal.

I know of one case; Warren Rongve, a principal of Carpenter High School, Meadow Lake, SK Canada.
When told two bullies on the volleyball team had assaulted another, taking his shorts down, rubbing liquid heat on his genitals, to 'welcome' him to the team, Rongve had those two off the team the next day, the coach told he's fired if there's another incident.
Should have called the cops in, but even so, that ended the bullying!

When teachers report the behavior b/c it’s disrupting the class, the school does nothing but send them to the deans office for 15 mins to “cool off”. No consequences no nothing.

This is nothing new. I was relentlessly bullied in school, and that was back in the '60s and '70s. The schools did nothing, parents did nothing, and the bullies had a blast because they could get away with whatever they wanted and the only kids who got in trouble were the ones who fought back. I thought about self-deleting, too, and also about taking a weapon to school so I could defend myself. Thanks to my horrible childhood, I can never have a normal life, and it's heartbreaking to me that this very serious problem is still with us and not being dealt with. Schools need to stop coddling bullies and parents of bullying victims need to step it up when the schools fail. Press. Charges. What the bullies are doing is illegal, and it's time they stopped getting away with that.
