There are 2 problems here. The fuel filter is old and restricting the fuel. Replace that for 5$ and you get 90hp back. The transmission's vacuum modulator needs and adjustment to make it shift smoother. That's actually free and needs 2 min to be done.
@@ApexRace The vacuum modulator on side of transmission only helps how soft or hard the shift is. The bowden cable at the throttle linkage under the hood has a plastic threaded bolt that controls how early or late the shifts happen.
0-100 km/h in 65 seconds. This car is broken. It has 35-40 hp maximum. Mercedes quote: 16.5 seconds to 100 km/h 90 hp with manual. Can't find automatic specs, but let's say 2-3 more seconds. This is broken car. And this car would not go uphill with this kind of weak AF acceleration.
You are right. I Drive a 300d w123 with 88ps and 3.0 Liter 5 cylinder and a friend of Mine drives the same car and engine in this Video (Manual not Automatic) and the acceleration of both Cars are nearly the Same and lot faster than in this video
It must not be the gearbox. Sign for worn automatic transmissions is usually slipping/flaring between the gears. This car is shifting so hard because it has an enourmos lack of engine power. If the engine has power issues the vacuum which is „sent“ to the vacuum doesnˋt match to the engine load anymore which results in hard shifting. These gearboxes are simply mechanical and vacuum controlled so therés no computer adjusting gear shift quality according to engine power.

It is a tank for its robustness. A 35 year old car and the body doesn't look that old. It is comfortable to travel. I like to see vehicles from that time still circulating on the roads. Thanks for showing it.

Trans is fine. Shifts well at least from what I can see. Based on RPM the torque Converter doesn't appear to be slipping. Something is up with that engine. It should be significantly faster.
@@SSammy-1 Can't you hear and see the transmission kicking, like on 2:20 onwards? This transmission is definitely not working properly. Maybe it just needs adjustment on the vacuum and new oil and filters, or like in my car it needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
Well, it's a non-turbo Diesel engine from back in the days. That has nothing in common with modern Diesel engines, but it will still be slow when all the modern Diesel engines will have gone to waste.

My 250D is 1988, manual 5 speed, and feels a bit faster to accelerate than this one, but never got around to time it with a stopwatch. I use the toll road invoices to time the speed runs, and it can totally keep up with modern traffic. It can reach the top speed as well. :) In mine, the paint and interior is not so nice as this. :/

I can tell by the sound of the engine that it had better days . Have driven lots of w124 for more than 1.000.000 km and still would have a new one without one single doubt .
the acceleration and the gear shifts tell me, that propably the transmission fluid needs to be checked or the transmission has to be adjusted. if it's too old, not filled adequatly or the clutches inside are worn out, you won't get power to the wheels even if the engine is working well.

Gorgeous 24 right there, nicely preserved interior but damn. As many mentioned before, that transmission needs a check soon. Those shifts hit like a 7.9 earthquake, something aint cool with it. Its clear that you should not wait too much acceleration from a car old like that even tho it should not be sluggish like that. I own a 1993 2.5 td E myself so i hope you can fix this issue. Please re record this video, this car has a major issue if it’s running that slow. The transmission also shouldn’t be jerking that much when it shifts. If it does that it’s a sign of low fluid or wear and tear. If the car is lacking that much power then it needs some major engine tuning as this isn’t normal.
This is the eternal car! I had a W 201. I bought it at 1,000,000 kilometers and it would have done even more if I hadn't splurged on a newer one. The only major drawback was the lack of airbags.
Back in 1985, this was considered good performance for a diesel car. Then the Ferrari Testarossa did 0-100 in just under 5s, and was considered a supercar. The 300SL, R107 did 9.6s and was a lot of a car. Sic transit gloria mundi. :D

I use to drive 190D automatic and it was faster 🙄 Take the old girl for one check. It'll be interesting to find 524D/TD 28/34 and take it for a lap 😎
That is one clean car bro. Congratulations, enjoy it. Mine is 1988 auto. But your car seems to have an issue somewhere, mine is faster than that. If I'd step on the gas pedal just like you did (when yours was struggling at the 60's), It should go at least 110-120 km/h or somewhat. Your fuel pump, injectors etc. seems to need an ispection. It might also be the transmissions settings, because it hesitated to upshift, and following, It shifted hard. check the trans oil level after driving 10-15 km's in town, on a flat surface, while the engine is running. But I gues It is more related with the fuel system. I will research for you.

It is slow, but cant be this slow. By specs from mercedes this car from 0-100 goes 16.5sec. There is even more videos of this exact model on youtube and it accelerated from 0-100 really close to 16sec, and in this video its freaking more than 1 minute...
For decent acceleration, one has to floor it and shift only after 4k rpm. It keeps up with traffic, though. Is decent for a such an old car. The industry came an old way, since 1985.
I have W124 250D from 1986 and W124 250TD from 1992. Both done over 600 kkm. I can easily reach 160 km/h speed, never tried top speed with both of these cars. Also acceleration of both MB's are really something else than what is in this video clip. Btw I have manual gearboxes in both MB's.
I have the same engine on a 93 W202... Runs 30x better than that. It does 210km/h top speed and about 15s 0-100. Has a 5 speed manual gearbox. The car of the video, seems to have transmission issues!!
Ja der hat was mit dem Wandler oder mit dem Getriebe . Man kann am Anfang vom Video sehen das er die Wahlstufen von P in D viel zu schnell durchschaltet das macht das Automatikgetriebe auf Dauer nicht mit . Normalerweise schalte man von P in D mit ganz kurzen Pausen aber nicht in eins durch . Ich kenne diese Getriebe und die sind nicht scheiße wen man damit pfleglich umgeht ich hatte selber ein 250 D mit 480000 km und Automatikgetriebe und der lief sehr gut .

Deze automaten zijn bij het juiste onderhoud redelijk onverslijtbaar , maar daar wordt in de praktijk meestal de hand mee gelicht en wordt onderhoud een sluitpost. Het zijn geen strepentrekers maar ik heb er zelf jaren een gehad en die wilde echt wel rond de 16 a 17 seconden naar de 100 en door naar 175/180 km op top.
manual with 5 speeds from 1987, out of traffic for the last two years, it is not in perfect condition like the one from the video clip, but I can responsibly claim that it can reach 160 km/h, considering that nothing has been touched on the engine for 8 years except for regular services (oil filters belts). the best car in the world ;)

A 200D has another gearbox specification which is adjusted to less power.
So this has nothing to do with less power in general.
Yeah there's a couple issues here. Likely injectors need to be refreshed and all vacuum lines checked, then maybe the shift modulator.

May be a clogged air or diesel filter or both. My 190D 2.5 with more than 400 tkm was still going 170+ kph.

Lack of engine power is the reason for jerky shifts. The transmission expects far more power for full throttle position and thus shifts more firmly.

I have a 250D, is my daily driver. Bought a newer car, it came and went broke, then i reverted to the good old w124. I'm so glad I kept it!

That is one clean car bro. Congratulations, enjoy it. Mine is 1988 auto. But your car seems to have an issue somewhere, mine is faster than that. If I'd step on the gas pedal just like you did (when yours was struggling at the 60's), It should go at least 110-120 km/h or somewhat. Your fuel pump, injectors etc. seems to need an ispection. It might also be the transmissions settings, because it hesitated to upshift, and following, It shifted hard. check the trans oil level after driving 10-15 km's in town, on a flat surface, while the engine is running. But I gues It is more related with the fuel system. I will research for you.
I think there are some filters or diesel lines full of gunk, maybe also injectors

It is slow, but cant be this slow. By specs from mercedes this car from 0-100 goes 16.5sec. There is even more videos of this exact model on youtube and it accelerated from 0-100 really close to 16sec, and in this video its freaking more than 1 minute...

For decent acceleration, one has to floor it and shift only after 4k rpm. It keeps up with traffic, though. Is decent for a such an old car. The industry came an old way, since 1985.

I have W124 250D from 1986 and W124 250TD from 1992. Both done over 600 kkm. I can easily reach 160 km/h speed, never tried top speed with both of these cars. Also acceleration of both MB's are really something else than what is in this video clip. Btw I have manual gearboxes in both MB's.

I have the same engine on a 93 W202... Runs 30x better than that. It does 210km/h top speed and about 15s 0-100. Has a 5 speed manual gearbox. The car of the video, seems to have transmission issues!!
Ja der hat was mit dem Wandler oder mit dem Getriebe . Man kann am Anfang vom Video sehen das er die Wahlstufen von P in D viel zu schnell durchschaltet das macht das Automatikgetriebe auf Dauer nicht mit . Normalerweise schalte man von P in D mit ganz kurzen Pausen aber nicht in eins durch . Ich kenne diese Getriebe und die sind nicht scheiße wen man damit pfleglich umgeht ich hatte selber ein 250 D mit 480000 km und Automatikgetriebe und der lief sehr gut .

@@nolimitautobahn4537 There is for sure something wrong with this car. I had a already painfully slow w123 240D with 72 hp performing a much better acceleration than this 250D. In fact I wanted to replace the 240D with a quicker 250D, but ended up with a w124 300TD turbo charged.

Deze automaten zijn bij het juiste onderhoud redelijk onverslijtbaar , maar daar wordt in de praktijk meestal de hand mee gelicht en wordt onderhoud een sluitpost.
Het zijn geen strepentrekers maar ik heb er zelf jaren een gehad en die wilde echt wel rond de 16 a 17 seconden naar de 100 en door naar 175/180 km op top.

manual with 5 speeds from 1987, out of traffic for the last two years, it is not in perfect condition like the one from the video clip, but I can responsibly claim that it can reach 160 km/h, considering that nothing has been touched on the engine for 8 years except for regular services (oil filters belts). the best car in the world ;)
