The one time I asked "every i6 that comes in is high miles and still running smooth,why did they ever stop putting these motors into American cars" to which I was told that because they were so reliable and bulletproof was the reason. They didn't want people having cars that lasts forever.

    I remember the mid 1980’s adverts for the W126 series here in Australia around surviving a crash. Look it up on YT…the MB slogan at that time was ‘Engineered like no other car…’
    Not sure I’d say that applies to the Mercedes Benz of today. Back then, owning a Benz was something special, a privilege to be earned. If you saw one, it was exciting, as they weren’t everywhere. Now, here at least where I am, almost every man and his dog has one! Even I’ve got a C124 300CE coupe sitting in my back yard!

      @torben707 3 года назад

      @@stefanstefan2105 The W124 is a very good car. Maybe the best Benz? It is extremely well built. However as you are a young man, i would suggest, that you go for a petrol engine. I can fully recommend the 230E (2.3, 4 cylinder, apprx. 136 hp and 215 nm). Its a very solid and fairly economical engine. The 6 cylinder 300E is a great performing engine and lift the car to a higher (driving) level. But there is also the "small" 6 cylinder - 260E (2.6, apprx. 160 hp) which is a very good engine also.
      You're about to get your driving license and therefore i think the petrol will be more fun for you. However the diesels are great, solid engines, but to the "slow" side in terms driving dynamic. Its just to different ways to drive.
      If you go for diesel, then i would take the 300d (3.0 6 cylinder, preferably the turbo version, apprx. 150 hp and 275 nm) for instance the 1993-1995 models. Really great, solid cars and great performing and agile and fairly economical diesel engines.

      Interesting comment about the turn signal control.
      it is very similar to the one in an MAN truck of the same era.

    Owned two 1987 W 124s over the years, and parts got to be an issue. Best Mercedes made, and best car in the world, at the time. Quick up to 60 for its time, but took a long time to get to 135, but had the best brakes. Only 22 MPG.

    Extremely rare to see pre 2000s mercedes in my country without it falling apart from rust. Tbh that is all pre 2000s cars almost. Volvos and Saabs are usually in best condition from that time period here.
    Gotta love these late 80s and early 90s cars though, so simple and yet so reliable (as long as the rust has been kept in check).

    All the maintenance items have been attended to. I've been hoarding parts for upgrades for some time. Sure, as a Florida car, the paint is terrible. I'll address this too, in the future.
    I took it to the local dealer last year for an alignment. The senior tech, whom has worked there for years, said to me "That's a nice car."
