Karelly, October-January are the most traumatic and hard to get through months for me. Part from family not being very close and part from trauma. You are not alone in feeling less jolly perhaps than some others and that’s okay!!!
I think that time of year is so distinct, with all its decorations and songs and even smells, that if anything terrible happens to you during the holidays, you can be stuck with negative associations towards it for years. The actual holiday itself has nothing to do with my trauma, but because it happened at Christmas time when I was a child, I began to feel an overwhelming since of dread everytime the holidays came around for years after.
@jonnyxrey I can relate. There's stuff that happened at Christmas which always brings a vibe... but also the people who I'm not in contact with I tend to focus on the fact that they aren't around. And in my country everyone drinks at Christmas which just amps everything up 😅

I completely understand what you our feeling typically it would be October through January because of Earth days and death anniversary and the holidays are really tough because of some family drama so I don't even get to see my dad who I am extremely close with I am still surrounded by loved ones and the family I have met along my way in life family isn't always blood it is the unwavering love and willingness to love me and my to help me through the good times and the bad this year these feelings started the end of September for me when my best friend's father passed away from a lengthy illness and then her mom passed away 4 days later we have been friends for over 20 years annoying next door neighbors for a good portion of that so they were like my parents too I just tried my best to avoid thinking of all the negative things and try to focus on my blessings each year

I worked in fast food for 3 years as a teenager. I’m a hairstylist now and currently going back to school for victim services. Fast food will Always be the most stressful job I’ve ever had.

Kendall. I swear, this works for the christmas tree debacle with a toddler. Get plastic ornaments for sure. But the key is to allow her to help set up the tree as much as possible. After that, the rule is, they ARE allowed to touch the ornaments, but they can not pull anything. Not taking off ornaments, no pulling on lights. Sit with her for a while and really explain the rules and help her understand. Talk to her about how pretty all the lights and ornaments are, oh, but we don't pull. Wow, this is a pretty one, yeah that one was your daddy's first ornament when he was a baby. I have two kids, one is only two. I swear it works. If you try to keep them from it, it will only make it more enticing to them. It's not a forbidden thing, it's a very specail thing that has rules. This worked for my two so far, so good luck!
This is similar to what my parents did with a lot of things when we were kids (like explain the "why" to us and take away the "forbiddeness" of stuff), and it almost always worked with me and my brother!
It's literally different for every kid and every situation 😂 my kid does better when you tell her it's a decoration and then redirect her to something else. Putting too much attention on it by talking about it and how pretty it is ect would be too enticing for her lolol she's 2 and 3 months 😂
When my father passed away last November I couldn’t bring myself to decorate, watch movies or listen to Christmas music. This year it’s still a bit painful - hearing Karelly speak about easing into the holiday spirit made me feel comforted. Like someone else is also just trying to feel that joy but not quite knowing how to start. I’m Canadian, but I was/am thankful for the Sesh this year. You’ve carried many of us Seshies through some less than stellar times 💚
My daughter worked for McDonald's for a few years. She ended up a Manager. But, she is so painfully shy, meek and a pacifist. I felt so bad when she told us about the abuse from customers she had endured 😢
I don’t love Christmas either in general. Having kids of my own makes it funner. My husband passed away in Sept so it’s hard for me to fathom doing these things without him. You girlies are very uplifting tho, love tuning in every week. ❤️
I'm dreading the holidays because of my husband passing this year as well. I'm grateful for having last year, knowing it was our last, but it was so very hard. My kids are a bit older, I'm nervous to see how they will handle it. I sure as hell don't feel like decorating but will for them. Hugs to you and your family. I know it doesn't bring much comfort knowing you aren't alone but thought I know how you feel. I'm 8 months in since he passed and I'm just now starting to feel joy again. Meds, therapist, and a Bible study has helped. I wish you nothing but the best. ❤

I am a christmas hater... family trauma makes holidays very stressful and sad, but I enjoy buying gifts for people. Making people happy is fun, but if I could put myself in a coma from the end of November until mid February voluntarily I would do it every year lmao 😂
My little sister works at McDonald's. A month ago her and a coworker got brutally assaulted by some Doordash driver. My sister is 19 years old and doesn't even weigh 105 pounds. I'm currently trying to help find her a new job. It's awful.

Most of my family that's related are up north and I don't really have any real relationship with them (my parents moved to fl when i was 2 and the rest of the extended family, aunts uncles etc stayed up north), I have a sister but I'm almost 99% sure that she is withholding my inheritance and saying my mom spent it all which is impossible considering my dad was a retired captain in the navy and doctor/dermatologist for uf and I was told my entire life (up to 2 days before my dad died, he reminded me that I still had it so) that I had a inheritance which would have helped me start my life because I put everything on hold for years to take care of my parents (my sister didn't start helping until the last 2 months of my dad's life and she only helped by taking my dad once a week to one of his blood transfusion apps when he actualy used to go upwards to 4 times a week. Mentally, emotionally, I am really struggling with all of this and not really sure what to do. I have a daughter who is 19 and she just moved out to attend college and I do have a hubby who is also her biological dad that I've been with for 20 yrs, he does home remodeling so there are times with no work. I'm just really struggling right now in every sense of the word. And no we don't associate with his family because they are all accepting of his dad being a pedo and I mean a real pedo so we just stay away from that entire side of the family. They are awful people. I could literally write a book about this and people would think it's fiction, like for real. It's crazy.
The holidays, for me, are stressful. So I'm with Karelly on that side of it, but I absolutely love Christmas decorations and driving around looking at lights in different neighborhoods!! This is my first Christmas in my new house/neighborhood too!! Love you ladies! -- your friend from NC! 💗

Cooking prepping tip: when cutting veggies (some, not all) I have just as many pairs of kitchen scissors as I do big kitchen knives cuz I use the scissors to cut veggies like green onion, cilantro, spinach...it's faster, more control of size u want cut. we have bigger ones for meat also. Like when I make fajitas and cutting up meats after they're grilled, it's so much easier to use scissors.

I worked in a McDonald once and they always tell you to give any robbers whatever they ask for and let the police handle them afterwards. It’s not worth someone getting hurt.

Christmas decorations can be anything you want! I have a black Christmas tree with black and white decorations and I even bought sparkly black spiders during Halloween to put on my tree because it matches!

Omg! I didn't know other people knew about the pickle tradition! Instead of getting to open the first gift, in my family there is an extra "pickle gift". It can be anything from gift cards, scratch off tickets, maybe some fun amazon "best seller" finds or small gadgets, etc. Something that anyone can enjoy-- no matter who wins. It's always so much fun and my brother and I have some stiff competition against each other each year! lol. Even now as full-grown adults with kids.
When I was 15 I was a barista at a small coffee shop. The amount of sex jokes and sexualization I experienced from older men who were regulars (like 50+ years) was disgusting. Then I was a cashier during COVID and every shift was hell on earth 🙃.

the holidays always make me sad. i had a reallllly bad childhood and have been traumatized through life. my dad was my only constant throughout my life and he passed away two years ago right before thanksgiving and life hasn’t been the same. my 13 year old fur baby passed away a couple months ago and i honestly don’t even want to see any christmas lights this year. we’re not celebrating thanksgiving again this year, and i could honestly care less. karelly, ophelia is so adorable!!! i hope you’re able to get in the spirit this year. 💚💚💚
The BEST thing i ever did when my tiny humans were toddlers was buy them their own little tree and decorations that they can touch/rearrange/move whatever they choose then redirect, redirect, redirect 😅😅

Married to a Mexican, I am so into Christmas. My husband loves it for a small spurt. He loves the 24th going all out Mexican feast with piñata because that when and how his family celebrated and they only had a tree for decorations. The 25th is our US Christmas with presents,Santa and more traditional US Christmas feast. On years we go to Mexico to be with his family we don’t really celebrate U.S. Christmas.
I relate to Karelly 100%!! I have SAD (seasonal affective disorder), and I moved to Florida for college mainly for that reason. I’m from Chicago and the rest of my big family is there, and now I’m graduated and working in the service industry and they don’t understand why I can’t/don’t want to be home for every holiday. I just associate the holidays with depression so it’s hard for me to try to force joy even though I do love my family. for me, it’s easier to take time off work during a random and less stressful time of year, and really enjoy the time with family, not have to associate it with any sort of holiday❤️ peace and love to all especially those who are missing loved ones this season
When i was 16 my friend and I were working the drive thru at burger king and a customer threw a drink on him and he grabbed the next drink and threw it back at them 😭. we also had an icecream cone thrown at us as a “joke” 🥴. so many stories i could tell! people have no chill.
I find the holidays very sad. My mom always put us deeply into debt trying to buy our love then as adults she would guilt us into seeing her. I also think of the people that are genuinely lonely or the animals with no homes and it brings me down.

I was once worried about my little walker on the move, I suggest a table tree. Not as fun, but a small/medium sized tree that could fit on a table out of little ones reach always put my mind at ease! You can get a bigger table for the tree so you can place gifts on/under the table as well. 😊
After you molded your candle you should of placed it in a paper cup to shape it and freezer it. I made on for Halloween/ my birthday and it turned out beautifully. I tried sending you guys a pic but idk how

The Santa Clause has always been my favorite Christmas movie. It came out the year after I was born so I've watched it almost every year of my life lol. Home Alone and Rudolph are my other faves. Another one in recent years that's pretty good is The Christmas Chronicles. 🎅🎄

Christmas decorations can be anything you want! I have a black Christmas tree with black and white decorations and I even bought sparkly black spiders during Halloween to put on my tree because it matches!

Omg! I didn't know other people knew about the pickle tradition! Instead of getting to open the first gift, in my family there is an extra "pickle gift". It can be anything from gift cards, scratch off tickets, maybe some fun amazon "best seller" finds or small gadgets, etc. Something that anyone can enjoy-- no matter who wins. It's always so much fun and my brother and I have some stiff competition against each other each year! lol. Even now as full-grown adults with kids.
When I was 15 I was a barista at a small coffee shop. The amount of sex jokes and sexualization I experienced from older men who were regulars (like 50+ years) was disgusting. Then I was a cashier during COVID and every shift was hell on earth 🙃.

the holidays always make me sad. i had a reallllly bad childhood and have been traumatized through life. my dad was my only constant throughout my life and he passed away two years ago right before thanksgiving and life hasn’t been the same. my 13 year old fur baby passed away a couple months ago and i honestly don’t even want to see any christmas lights this year. we’re not celebrating thanksgiving again this year, and i could honestly care less. karelly, ophelia is so adorable!!! i hope you’re able to get in the spirit this year. 💚💚💚

I really resonated with Karelly about not really liking Christmas time, growing up an only child with divorced parents it was always stressful and each side would be resentful for not having me on Christmas morning created so much stress and I always felt I had to please everyone.

Married to a Mexican, I am so into Christmas. My husband loves it for a small spurt. He loves the 24th going all out Mexican feast with piñata because that when and how his family celebrated and they only had a tree for decorations. The 25th is our US Christmas with presents,Santa and more traditional US Christmas feast.
On years we go to Mexico to be with his family we don’t really celebrate U.S. Christmas.

I relate to Karelly 100%!! I have SAD (seasonal affective disorder), and I moved to Florida for college mainly for that reason. I’m from Chicago and the rest of my big family is there, and now I’m graduated and working in the service industry and they don’t understand why I can’t/don’t want to be home for every holiday. I just associate the holidays with depression so it’s hard for me to try to force joy even though I do love my family. for me, it’s easier to take time off work during a random and less stressful time of year, and really enjoy the time with family, not have to associate it with any sort of holiday❤️ peace and love to all especially those who are missing loved ones this season

I find the holidays very sad. My mom always put us deeply into debt trying to buy our love then as adults she would guilt us into seeing her. I also think of the people that are genuinely lonely or the animals with no homes and it brings me down.

I was once worried about my little walker on the move, I suggest a table tree.
Not as fun, but a small/medium sized tree that could fit on a table out of little ones reach always put my mind at ease!
You can get a bigger table for the tree so you can place gifts on/under the table as well. 😊
After you molded your candle you should of placed it in a paper cup to shape it and freezer it. I made on for Halloween/ my birthday and it turned out beautifully. I tried sending you guys a pic but idk how
