    Just so you know....I love watching your vlogs. They really help to inspire me. I'm a 47 year old that was told my entire life that art was not a real job. I finally have decided to be myself in all aspects of life and art is a huge part of that. I wanted you and all younger artist and youtubers to know that just because we are older doesnt mean we have it figured out and you all are there for us as well. We can all do so much to help one another jo matter our ages. Thanks for being so upfront and helpful.

    Happy one-year self-employed anniversary 🎉🥳👏🏽😁 That "starving artist" mentality affected me with respects to writing but this has encouraged me to go for it especially because it comes naturally to me and I'm actually good at it lol. Thank you for sharing your journey honestly, Tiffany. Wishing you many more years!

      Sarah A. I completely agree with you, but I’m not going to art school to earn a degree. As a 17 year old fresh out of high school, I don’t have the skillset or motivation to build a business. I’ve worked years to get into this school, and I’m doing so to further my education and skills, learn the business side of art, make potentially useful connections for the future, and learn directly from incredible artists. So no, I don’t think it’s a waste of money to pursue an education in something that I am passionate about :)

      Definitely a rewarding experience! I'm about to graduate art school and it's helped my artistic skills grow immensely and given me opportunities to exhibit, sell my artworks and start to make a name for myself in the artworld. It also allows me to have something to fall back on if I need to get a job that requires a masters such as teaching etc. Definently worth it! Good luck!!

    Congratulations on your one year anniversary! During my exam period last month I was really burnt out and unmotivated to do any revision. Then I found your channel and started binge watching it while I do my revisions. Your "Just do it" and perseverance always keeps me going and your way of thinking helped me a lot in viewing my studies in a better perspective. Now that I finished my exam, I am still trying to go through all your videos and re-watching some of it. I am also trying out many new art forms as a way to relieve stress. It is really inspiring to see how much you have grown in so many aspects and I am really grateful to be able to watch all of it! Thank you so much for sharing your journey! Wishing you all the best any many more years to come!

    It really depends on where you live too. I live in a farm rural area with a lot of old people. I'm having issues finding art financially stable. My mom even told me everyone locally is interested in landscaping traditional paintings than digital art. I recently quit my job with no savings and tried to live off my art. i failed honestly within a month of quitting. My mom is forcing me to find a 9-5 job again and start paying rent again.

    • @Brodmann312
      @Brodmann312 3 года назад +13

      You can live in a rural area and sell art for a living (lots of people do), but it probably won't all be done locally. Selling online, finding relevant small businesses or galleries in surrounding cities, and markets/art fairs are some options. Consider building up your savings while you keep making art with some of your free time. Aside from having art that people want to purchase, a business plan and marketing are important factors in your future success. Keep creating, learn from other artists that have built from the ground up, and set aside whatever you can so you can live the type of life you want, where you want. You're at the beginning of your journey. Best wishes!

    • @mrs.quills7061
      @mrs.quills7061 Год назад

      Yeah as the previous comment says you’ll have to find a job in the city or sell online. I live rurally and do both. My commute one way can be 40-60 minutes depending on traffic. It is hard because you can’t make connections in the area and a little of the older people are so sheltered and stubborn, but it’s not impossible, you just have to get out and see the world if that makes sense.
      Also, if you do digital art like I do you can put that easily into a shop online that makes print on demand, you won’t make a ton of profits, but you won’t have to worry about shipping and making the thing. It’s something I’m looking into to expand what I have.

    I swear this video came at the most PERFECT time because lately I've been thinking a lot about the future and how I'll be able to support myself. I'm graduating from the comfy art college environment this year and I've been stuck at my 9-5 for almost six years now and I've been tired of it but stability is so comforting.. But also that's where that leap of faith comes in!! I have been thinking about starting my own shop sooner than later so that when I do decide to quit I have that second source of income like you explained in the video :o
    So thank you so much for this encouraging and informal video Tiffany!! ;;;

    Loved this, Thanks so much! The social media part was so important to me, I am very awkward in SM and I don't really understand it, I pretty much escape it but I want to grow and everyone tells me that's the way to do it. I can't stand the obsessing with the numbers and likes and followers thing so after watching this I just decided I will create a space that me and whoever is interested can enjoy regardless of what the algorithm wants to do with me :)

    The timing of this definitely adds fuel to push me to work hard until I can get to this point. I agree with the comforts of having a 9-5 but for me personally it's gotten to a point where it just isn't for me anymore. Art has always been my calling but I've always struggled to keep a consistent drive and push past how social media makes me feel as a creative person. But the advice you gave in this video helps me feel a little bit more hopeful and determined. So thank you for being so open about your experiences and putting this together~!

    this video is a hug personified. ever since i was a kid, i was inclined to the arts and i brought that with me now, as a 22 year old and even made a living out of it as a graphic designer. for me these days i feel like i'm really creating art to survive, i can't even make art in my free time anymore coz i started to associate stress with art, which is just so sad. and when you said you just find the passion again overtime, i started tearing up. i had that sudden pang of realization. it gets hard sometimes but i won't have this any other way. i feel like being an artist is really what i'm meant to be and this is a path i'm meant to pursue :) ily tiffany, you're the best, really. thank you as always😭

    hello tiff! I just want to say thank you for this wonderful video. It inspired me like the others too. I’m about to start another term in college again and I felt like giving up or like losing the passion of what i like doing. I only wish that this term will be more like a break since i mostly took minor subjects. But i’m really struggling in terms of creativity these days. This video just helped me to be calm and reminded me also of why I started and where I am right now. My dream is to be like that too and tho i have a long way to go, i know it will be worth it. I'm in 10th grade and i really want to go to an art school to do just like you, but the problem is that my parents don't agree with this.
    They think that i won't have enough money it won't work, they would like me to become a scientist because i like biology, but what they don't understand is that almost all my life is around drawing and art ( sorry if my english is weird, i'm french 😅)
    I'm sure i'm capable to do it but i'm a bit stopped by my family and friends .

    Hi Apple Cheeks
    Thanks for your life story and work in the process
    sharing vid. I can relate, I was in a same process
    myself Yeah I too been to 5 schools except schools
    4 & 5 Was online self taught learning and RUclips
    Tutorials after
    It’s been a long Process to finish thru but I was satisfied
    on the Long run and thought up slowly what to do in my
    life since I was unemployed for 12 years then see what
    to do with my artwork & porfolio, then see how can I use
    these to my advantage to maybe just self employed myself
    And I did, 2 POD so far for 5 years and I’m happy with them
    Next, see what else should I do since I’m still searching till
    now
    So that’s me
    So again thanks so much apple cheeks and good journeys to you

    I will be working in my Job for June and at the beginning of July I will be self-employed aswell. I am currently extremely tired from freelance and going to work but I will make it through that last month.

    Thank you for such a lovely video!
    Funny enough I also met a friend in 5th grade who I also saw as an artist prodigy and I wanted to draw as good as her. Additionally, I started carrying sketchbooks everywhere too.
    I currently work as a designer right now but the last year I started thinking I wanted to be self employed too.
    As far as the LLC you may want to check out Hawthorn Law here on youtube! He has some pretty good videos on whether you should make an LLC. All Up in Yo business is a good one to watch too :)

    I learned from a More Hannah video that 1 year/5 year/10 year plans are meant to be flexible! I never really planned long term because i have very little idea what my pace is like 😅 Right now i graduated and am looking for a job, but it’s been a bit draining. I got curious if i should really just go straight into self employment, even though the finance area can be really murky.

    I've been doing freelance illustration commercially for a few years now, but I'm really trying to grow my audience to do more like what you do with the social media game. Patreon just seems like a dream job!! For that reason, social media and numbers feels particularly important and such a burden sometimes!! You need the numbers to succeed at selling your personal work. :,(

    Tbh I never comment or anything in youtube videos but this video kinda made me tear up, I am also overall very scared and consider myself more of a daydreamer than doing anything concrete, even thou I also got into all the art schools I applied to and got good compliments on my portfolio i still feel like I will never be able to make it or i simply cannot imagine myself even doing commissions, more so out of fear than anything else. It fills me with hope that hopefully I will get over this and even this really scared person will one day be a freelancing who knows, anyways thank you so much for your videos , they help a lot
