Dear Johnathan W. Extremely well done again, Sir! Congrats. Engine runs and sounds great. That is absolutely the right and normal way to do it: repair only what is broken or not good any more instead of completely overhauling. Nearly can't wait to see and hear the car drivin'. I simply loved how you answered your grandchilds call. That's great. Best regards luck and health to you all.
You're a genius Jon,. when it comes to mechanical things, but may I request more of that fine young man Noah. I so enjoy seeing his enthusiasm about learning from you what you've culled over the years.
Its because of you getting this car that I'm now on the hunt for a Studebaker Goldenhawk. Fell in love with those cars first time I saw this one on your channel. Favorite channel to watch is right here!
My fave bit was hey lil buddy! My own little girls love their grandpa and my eldest loves to help me on the cars. Brought a tear to my eye. The stud is running fine too!
I just found you and watched for about 6 hours. Love the Studebakers. I am a South Bend native. Dad worked for Studebaker from 1924 to 1956. He had a 39 Champ, 47 Champ, 50 Champ, 51 Champ and 55 President Land Cruiser. My first was a 50 Champ. You are amazing. Your training since “15 years old” gives you a practical knowledge that can only be learned by doing. Super videos!
Boy , that old Studebaker sounds great , its good to see somebody saving old cars instead of letting them go to the crusher , as always keep up the good work , and the great videos .
I’ve been waiting to hear that big ol’ Packard engine fIre up since you said you were going to re-do the heads! Sounds great! Now I can’t wait to watch it rolling down the road... and maybe see it smoke the tires a bit! Thanks for posting all of these great videos!
That engine sounds GOOD! Jonathan, you are THE MAN! Well, they either gotta bury the phone line or put some poles in and get it up in the air. That’s probably the cheaper alternative.
The old 56 stud . Had a lot of fun raceing them back in the day . Yep my six three split window vet was good. Yep two fours and a three speed fast little thing. Hoya Hoya Tom t .80 and still loving it thanks for the merry times .
Great job on bringing that 352 back to life Dr. Jonathan! It sounded great. Can't wait to here a Packard 352 running with Flowmasters! Glad it's not a feuding neighbor situation, but even if he didn't know the phone line he was repeatedly cutting with his mower was knocking out your phone & affecting your buisness, he still should have took special care not to cut it anyway. Cutting it one time, Ok, I can see that being an accident, but multiple times is just ignorant. Just because he wasn't affected apparently, doesn't mean it's Ok to keep doing it, He had to know someone was being affected. Those welds you showed on the frame rails were downright scary! It's a wonder the manufacturer thought that was acceptable. It's a good thing it was never in a major wreck because the entire body probably would have seperated from the chassis & disintegrated since the older motor homes were mostly made of wood.
No wonder they put those Packard engines in those Golden Hawks sounds like it's got a factory hot cam in it to me sounds really good and even better with them flow masters on it. Jonathan great job
Motor work turned out great ! Glad the neighbor knows about the phone line . The suspense of the new car with paint will keep us all tumed in ,DONT TOUCH THAT DAIL !!!!!!!
Coming along very nicely, Jonathan. I bet you get some flak from doing engine work outside, lol. I love it, you take great care in your work and that s what counts at least to me. Thanks for sharing, Kevin.
Two fresh engine starts in one day. I just did a re-ring and a valve job on my MerCruiser. Got it back together and in the boat and started it today. That’s a good day 👍. That sounds real good.
I can tell you're anticipating the weekend trip and "the car with paint" possibilities. That's gonna be one fast Stude again! Thanks for all your work, putting together these videos for us. We are thankful! Be safe, my friend and take a bit to relax a little. Hug the wife too! Chuck in NE Kansas
G'day Jonathan ,that motor sounds sweet ,I don't think you'll have a problem spinning the wheels on that one, great build so far ,see you on the next one ,a car with paint amazing !
Awesome sound, played this through my stereo several times...might have upset the neighbours! Terrific to hear your grandson in the background. Really like this old Studebaker
As a grampa my self, gotta love " hey papa" ( meaning papa your my idol 👍😊) the 352 roars once again .. great job guys ( Noah I hope you payed attention.. invaluable education..taught by a great instructor)
I'm glad to hear this gem running right again. I'm sitting here in emergency hoping medical staff can do just as good as job as you're doing on the old iron.
It did my heart good to hear that engine run. Big American iron, you just don't come across it much any more. Sounded like another Packard product, the power plants in PT boats!
Wow! nothing sounds as nice as an American V8. There used to be an exhaust pipe bender called a Bend-o- Graph. All the SoCal muffler shops used them in the '60's. You would bend a piece of wire to the shape of the pipe you wanted then put the wire and a straight pipe in the machine and bingo a correctly bent pipe. Thanks for making my day.
Been following progress on this with interest. Acquired one the year you were born. Didn't realize they came with a Packard engine as mine didn't have one (or transmission). With a lot of work and modifications I shoehorned a 394 Olds with Hydramatic from a wrecked Holiday I had into it. That thing was scary.
Bravo! It lives!! The water pump mounting and even the water manifold looks very much like Studebaker V-8. Was this a special on the Packard powered Hawks, or was it regular Packard ABOUT THE PHONE LINE PROBLEM: While I was among the ones who suggested burying your own service line, I am advocating going to a depth of less than 6", preferably 3. When you "plow" a line in, you hardly disturb the soil, as the hole is around a half inch wide or less. electrical lines must be buried 24" or greater in depth, likewise natural gas lines, and telephone cables, which are generally around 36" or greater. If you have municipal utilities, the normal depth for water is 48" and sewer varies all over the map to allow gravity flow. I also highly suggest getting the phone company to furnish the wire to you at no cost (usually they will be willing to do this) since you are offering the initiative to install it! Were I doing it, I would offer to "Run it in for them, with the provision that they furnish the cable, and terminate both ends, then remove the old, now useless cable. If you suggest doing this to your contact at the NC utilities commission, they will probably be very much in your corner, and you might not even have to do the work yourself. they ARE supposed to by your advocates! I estimate you could build a cable plow to fit the Bobcat in an hour or two, without having to invest any actual money in the project. You could even use the chain saw motor and hoses to temporarily serve. After all, you're only going a coupe or three thousand feet, and only once! Good luck!!
I never thought I'd see AND hear a Packard V8! Thank you for getting the Golden Hawk and rebuilding (repairing) much of the engine!! The engine was big for its day at 352 CI I think I saw 4 holes in the intake manifold, so it had a four barrel carburetor. I'd love to know what power and torque figures they advertised it having.
Jonathan, another great job you did. Sounds great, can not wait till you drive it down the road. I like that body stile. Keep up the great work your doing and teaching others. I look forward to the next video, keep them coming.
When they run that good on startup, they usually stay together. .It really sounds good for a engine with just the bare necessities. I can only hope that the time will pass and the utilities dept., will come together and get the landline resolved. I know it is more time than anything for stuff like that to resolve itself. Throwing money at stuff is fine for billionaires but for the rest of us we have way more time than money. I watch a lot of youtube and it keeps me company. Like the programs about Packard and Tucker etc., they were pretty tough. My neighbors was the straight eight and it didn't do near as good. I see that car with just the bare necessities looking pretty fair. I like the old Studebaker the best of the old cars for recent builds but I love the salmon pink and white 59 ford the best of all as it was just one of my favorite cars growing up. Were I a wealthy man, I would try to talk you out of it but since I don't drive and I ain't wealthy, it is the man with the money. Been thinking of getting my licence reinstated but being 72, they may not, since I am crippled up to where I can't walk. Thank you again for you dedicating your time and money to make these videos as they are of the highest quality standard and clean show to whole family. I hope the inspections went well. I can only hope and think they probably marked you off two points cause of phone number or such silly stiff they do
I enjoy the sound of a nice big V8 engine revving up. Grandkids are fun. About those phone lines- make the phone company do the proper job of running new wires and burying them properly. Best wishes for success. The Public Utilities Commission can work wonders if they are brought into the situation.
HA!! "What's that stuff called? Oh yeah, paint." Man, it started right up and sounds good! Really looking forward to the next few videos. Also liked the aside to your grandson(?) I guess. Very nice. Thanks.
God I love that car! "Papa" Jonathan fix cars! It's a good thing you're all the way over in the carolinas else i'd probably have driven out there with a small stack of cash to try to buy that 56 off of you.
I learned something from an old timer mechanic years ago about running a compression test. Open the throttle plate on carb this allows maximum air intake to ensure the highest reading possible.
Damn Jon that old Stud really looks like it is going to be a really powerful runner. That Packard 352 was rated at over 300 h.p. with the 4 bbl carb. It was 305 hp or something like that. It ought to be pretty quick. I would not mind having the old girl now that I know there isn't anything wrong with the motor. I really always liked them growing up back then. They were certainly different and grabbed a lot of looks.
Sounds like a hot rod for sure!🤘. I think you need to look into getting a femtocell. It’s basically a personal cell repeater that will boost your cell signal so you’ll have good reception wherever you are on your property. Not a fix for this issue, but would help for now.
You are a darn good man with some darn good videos .Being a jack of all trades ,you my friend top them all ,and by the way, I sure hope you get that crazy phone situation ratified. What a jug f---- that system is. Good luck in your endeavors
8:56 "Hey Papa!" ... "Hey Little Buddy. Love you!" Best part of the video. Grandpa Goals.
I couldn't agree more, great big lump like me, hearing that just melted my heart.!!
Big thumbs up from a fellow "Papa", and Packard enthusiast.
I subscribe to a lot of RUclipsrs and you are my favorite I really look forward to your videos your a damn good dude.
F8ng HOT ROD lmfaoo

"WILL IT RUN AGAIN??" Was there ever any doubt? Good job.
We always look forward to your videos,we really enjoy them. Thank you
That little one in back ground "Hey papa!" So sweet.
Impressive casting quality, Packard was high quality stuff
Packard was ahead of its time
Packard was a great company.
Like Studebaker, Packard probably used a better alloy (high chromium) than most manufacturers, as they were always a top of the pile quality wise.
I am 73 and old timers used to tell me as a boy those packard engines were built "hell bent for stout"
Wow Packard car v8 sounds like their aircraft engines.
I was thinking it sounded like their boat engine
WW2 Packard Merlin the best.
Best four words I’ve heard today:
“Hey everybody, Jonathan here...”
Thank you for being the highlight of my day.
My fave bit was hey lil buddy! My own little girls love their grandpa and my eldest loves to help me on the cars. Brought a tear to my eye. The stud is running fine too!
Before I watch this...I am super stoked on seeing this badass 352 run again!
Honest and authentic video! Thank you for sharing! I wish you good luck to complete your project.
I just found you and watched for about 6 hours. Love the Studebakers. I am a South Bend native. Dad worked for Studebaker from 1924 to 1956. Man that thing sounds sweet. Loved the hi papa half way through the video. Made me smile.
I love the sound of a 352 Packard engine, thats one of those sounds that you hear the car and nevet have look up to see whos comming.

I truly enjoy watching your videos. I’m not mechanical nor a mechanic. Very informative commentary.
That engine sounds GOOD!
Jonathan, you are THE MAN!

They had to be really good on their castings! Airplane engines! Fantastic rebuild !! I can see now why you wanted this engine!! Ohhhh yesssss!!
Great job on bringing that 352 back to life Dr. Jonathan! It sounded great. Can't wait to here a Packard 352 running with Flowmasters! The exhaust manifolds are like little gems... Dang that engine sounds willing to roar.
Sweet repair Be safe and happy travels
That motor sounds great, reminds me of "Christine" with that lumpy exhaust.
A little bit easier start than when you had to pull it. LOL Great Job Jonathan.
My dad built Packards. I have a solid gold Bulova watch given to him in 1942 for ten years loyal service. It still runs just like their cars.
Thanks JW, nice runnin' old Packard mill.
No wonder they put those Packard engines in those Golden Hawks sounds like it's got a factory hot cam in it to me sounds really good and even better with them flow masters on it. Jonathan great job
Jonathan you are the best all round mechanic I have ever seen. And I have worked with some good ones.
Got a keeper here 😁 sounds great you and the Mrs can race each other now!!!! greatjob 👍 as always!
SHE LIVES!! Beautiful rebuild job there restoring a wonderful part of American history!
Motor work turned out great ! Glad the neighbor knows about the phone line . The suspense of the new car with paint will keep us all tumed in ,DONT TOUCH THAT DAIL !!!!!!!

Sounds like she about ready for the track! Great vid! Best part, hey papa! Hey lil buddy! Fantastic!
Coming along very nicely, Jonathan. I bet you get some flak from doing engine work outside, lol. I love it, you take great care in your work and that s what counts at least to me. Thanks for sharing, Kevin.
great work guys. keep history alive !!
Beautiful, that engine is a piece of art in it's own right. Hard to beat such quality engineering.
Two fresh engine starts in one day. I just did a re-ring and a valve job on my MerCruiser. Got it back together and in the boat and started it today. That’s a good day 👍. That sounds real good.

What a good time it is watching...it's like being with my late brother.Thanks...
More good work, and progress. Looking forward to first drive
man she sounds good to be an old girl..love watching these vids of ol ladys..lol
It did my heart good to hear that engine run. Big American iron, you just don't come across it much any more. Sounded like another Packard product, the power plants in PT boats!
That engine sounds good and good oil pressure as well another homerun Johnathon
I love to hear that old iron roar. Thanks
Studebaker sounds awesome. My chest was almost vibrating listening to the video. Damn phone company.

Lovely sounding engine, great job in rebuilding it! Love that Car, I would love to drive it around in its current condition, please dont paint it!
Wow! nothing sounds as nice as an American V8. There used to be an exhaust pipe bender called a Bend-o- Graph. All the SoCal muffler shops used them in the '60's. Checking spark with your wrist? Heh heh
Appreciate you for all you do! Thanks much.....

Most exciting!! That ol' mill sounds very nice! Congrats on some well done work.
Nice job I know that this type of repair can send you in lots of directions at once . Good job sorting it out.
It sounds magnificent. There is no doubt that when they built it they were definitely thinking "hot rod".
Awesome hearing that Powerful Packard Engine come to life!! 👍👍
Bravo! It lives!! The water pump mounting and even the water manifold looks very much like Studebaker V-8. The sound reminds me of an Olds, possibly because of that shared exhaust port. Nice work JW
It sounds righteous - straight pipes into flowmasters should result in awesome V8 music.
I enjoy the sound of a nice big V8 engine revving up. Grandkids are fun. About those phone lines- make the phone company do the proper job of running new wires and burying them properly. Jonathan that Study/Packard has the sound of power..........well done! You always get them figured out! Looking forward to the next video!
HA!! "What's that stuff called? Oh yeah, paint."
Man, it started right up and sounds good!
Really looking forward to the next few videos.
Also liked the aside to your grandson(?) I guess. Very nice.
Thanks.
I laughed hard with the 'paint' comment.
Great start to my morning. Thank you and regards from N. Ireland.
That's awesome glad you got it to run almost as cool as hi papa grandkids of my own nothing better
Another great video keep them coming Jonathan
Might put that Ford COE cab on that Jonathan, just a suggestion 😎
When you started the engine it sounded like a PT boat, but those where Packard Engine's. Sounds great.
For that car not running in a long time it sounds fantastic👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌👌
Another good video . Hope you get your phone line fixed . I think I would cover it up two inches an you should be ok good luck
God I love that car! "Papa" Jonathan fix cars! It's a good thing you're all the way over in the carolinas else i'd probably have driven out there with a small stack of cash to try to buy that 56 off of you.
It sounds great, I didn't think you reved too much at all
It looks as good as it sounds. Bravo. Can't wait to see it drive.
That engine sounds great. Excellent job. Thanks for sharing.
Looking good Johnboy like your videos you do some amazing work .
That engine sounds great, good repair. I’d be glad to have you for a neighbor.
Great channel good to watch fixing stuff and saving stuff like you do we do mutch the same here in Aus nice work
Those Packard engines when tunes ran great! I had a Studebaker with one in it, got it running & it was a daily driver i was 17, sorry i sold it!
That repaired engine is smokin'! Love its sound!
She sounds great, v.happy and bealthy indeed.
Dag Jonathan that Packard/Studebaker is a thing of Beauty! ...Newk from Kentucky
Sounds great i wonder how meany times you went in the house and told your wife we got a runner lol great job Jonathan w
Welll done, sounds just like it came out of the factory. That's going to be one awesome 56 Studebaker.
Your a dang magician Jonathan. Great save on this one.
You are a darn good man with some darn good videos .Being a jack of all trades ,you my friend top them all ,and by the way, I sure hope you get that crazy phone situation ratified. What a jug f---- that system is. Good luck in your endeavors
