Them owner J hooks are where it's at! While I do like circle hooks. A nice J for live finger mullet is whats up. U can't help but set the hook with mullet and a circle will pull every time.

Ur my fav angler on YT not only cuz I'm a wpb angler myself but because everything you do is exactly what everybody else I know does. Not pay private charters all over the place. But just fish local and kill it. Thats fishing at its finest.
I Snell my J hooks, do you? And I agree with your hook assessment. Circle hooks can lead to missed hook ups if you're too fast with the rod. Cheers bro.
I use loop knots for my J hooks with live bait.

Remember when you said you can catch a jack on a rock I would like to see you try.
If that rock looked sorta like a baitfish and had a place to attach a line and hook hell yeah you could. When they start a frenzy schooled up they will hit anything that moves.
He ain't kidding. I'm in Melbourne (east coast central Florida) and when a school comes through (happens a lot!) they will hit ANYTHING that they see!! I have caught 2 on one lure (at the SAME time) 4 times this year already! It only has 2 hooks! My buddy says he's caught 3 at once on a simular lure (3 hook crank bait) and I believe him! When they school, the competition is SO harsh they hit ANYTHING! But they sure are fun! :-)
@@scottmichael3745 Hell yeah bro I've caught multiple Jack and blueish with a double treble hook lure. I've also seen jacks try to snatch the lure out of the mouth of the one ur hooked up with. I love it!
@@devinowens8721 totally! It's an awesome experience. Got my brother-in-law and his buddy on a bad ass school of Jack and they're from Michigan so they were Super stoked! Even had a triple header at one point. The action is fast and crazy, and then it's gone... lol.

Cool to see different states version of Grand Slam, here in Texas our slam is a (Red, Trout & Flounder) nice video man. Live mullet on the end of the line is the best versatile bait there is.

Lawson have you ever tried harnessing the live bait with the hook placed horizontally just behind the head and in just under the thick skin on the back of the bait? All live baits swim much better than they do when hooked in the mouth . When baits are hooked in the mouth they are directed towards the rod and not able to swim freely.

As someone who fishes live bait on the flats and close to mangroves you may want to try letting that bait sit a little longer in the pockets before reeeling 5-6’ every few seconds. I’ve had better luck letting them sit and then a very slow retrieve. Two cents

Two questions - what was the average water depth when you were fishing the mangrove lines? And super random, but can you talk us through what you’re doing with the trolling motor as you’re working the line? I can hear it beeping, but are you slowing it down/speeding it up? Or just redirecting it?
Typically just redirecting it. Or the beeping is me starting it or stopping it. I usually set it to a low speed like 3 and just creep along.
What make and model is that 4000?

You really need to fish for flounder more. Just take a 3/8 ounce jighead and put a gulp swimming mullet on it and drag it across the bottom.

lee on the back wheel you can catch fish on anything. Just be carful with how much pressure you put on the fish.
I have landed a 30 pound sturgeon on 15-45 gr rod so i would be to scared to catch anything above 5 on it tbh
