Ty Glenn for all your projects. Can feel the love and passion in all of them. I loved the Callisto Protocol. It has so much potential for a long series and it’s because of you and your team. I would want a sequel with you at the helm. Great interview as well Dan.
just wanted to say, thank you Glen for doing this interview and being so transparent and honest with the fans. Huge shout out to Dan for putting this together and I just wanna push that Callisto is a great game. There's always a specific itch for a certain feel of sci-fi horror that I get and Glen's ideas/work always seem to scratch it. I can only replay DS and Callisto so much so I do sincerely hope Glen has more horror stories in him but god damn, at least we can say you gave us 2 of the top sci-fi horror experiences ever made. It's a thin market in film, an even thinner one in books and about as thin in gaming but I'm so happy they exist alongside the other pieces of media that inspired both stories. Thank you so much for being you and creating the worlds/stories you create.
What a great interview. It’s a shame Callisto Protocol didn’t come out as well as it should’ve but I bought it and enjoyed it. Hope to see more form Glen.
Played callisto Protocol had a great time and solid game for sure 👍, hope we see the Callisto 2 because this game has legs to run, last time i had so much fun with a similar game was in Dead Space 2
I love The Callisto Protocol! Gone through it three times. I absolutely love it. It’s not a huge open world game that takes a huge chunk of time. Straightforward and to the point.
I appreciate how candid Glen is. People really need to understand what goes into making these games. And he’s right, inflation hasn’t hit the consumer side of games at all. But we can see now, especially if you’re a PlayStation gamer waiting for new exclusives, that on the backend these studios need twice the time now and in many cases are being mismanaged by publishers. It’s really a shame. Games need to become short again and hopefully the internal budgets can be deflated. This industry needs to change for the better.
Really nice guy! I really feel for him over the Callisto protocol, you can tell how much he wanted that game to be good but had everything working against him
This interview might have been the best! Glen is just an absolute legend with one of the best call of duty titles and dead space under his belt. I really hope he continues to shine in the industry. Kudos to him!!!
Very good to hear him speak on all those things. Also confirmed some of the hunches I head around Callisto. I actually really enjoyed it but it always felt it needed some extra time in the oven.
Hey Dan. fantastic interview you did, brother. Glen is one of the few people of the big AAA industry who's got the balls to be original and creative; Horror gamers wanted no remakes and remasters, and then rejected Glen's vision. This industry deserves to be in the mud.
This was great, thank you for interviewing Glen. I just finished The Final Transmission and enjoyed Callisto overall. I hope Glen gets to direct another game.
I figured they would bring Jacob back for 2 even though they killed him off at the end of the first game’s DLC, like what Mass Effect 2 did with Shepard. It’s such a shame The Callisto Protocol failed to deliver because Jacob’s character had some great potential and I really enjoyed the game despite its shortcomings. I truly was hoping we would eventually see a sequel.
Now i understand why Callisto Protocol didn't make the cut, it was because of the development time plus Covid. Jeez the stress Glenn must have endured. Although callisto did not have a good melee combat system and enemy types, it was a good base game, given time it could have been a masterpiece. I really admire your courage and commitment into making horror games, DS original is always close and dear to my heart. Thank you Glenn Schofield for the masterpiece, hopefully one day you get to make the horror games again and this time for however long you want. Please take good care of your health and hope to see you soon in the future !
Didn’t make the cut? 🤣, you must of been playing a different game because that game was amazing! People just want to always be negative and cry about some shit smh.
Nice interview! I hope one day Glen starts a small little studio... like 20-30 people and they just release a badass little indie horror game. Eitherway the OG DEAD SPACE is the scariest game ever made hands down!
Wow, just tons and tons of respect and admiration for Glen. A true legend, thank you so much for all the amazing gaming experiences over the years. I’ll never forget the first time I played the original Dead Space
I enjoyed his Callisto Protocol, but I know many don't. I would LOVE to see him put effort into the sequel and just keep the graphics the same but improve gameplay and lore. I would love to test his new game but we'll have to see it one day.
I bought the Callisto Protocol collectors edition and ... no regrets. I loved it. The worst habit of people is when keep comparing with other games. Just go with open mind and you going to enjoy.
Thank you Glen! So many great memories and really your stories apply to any industry through great times and those that are tougher you come out with a smile on your face still. Really inspirational down to earth stuff. I absolutely loved Callisto and what your team did there! Looking forward to another playthrough this October during spooky season, as it scares the crap out of me :) Wishing you well on future journeys! Thanks Dan for the interview! Never watched the channel before but really appreciated the down to earth style and letting Glen just shoot the breeze as it were for an hour.
I hope Glen sees the comments. Much love to a visionary who has been worn out by a thankless industry (its a wonder any game gets made given the complexities of development). Callisto Protocol deserved a sequel, especially with the extra context about the struggles on the backend of development. It is so frustrating to know we'll never get one and that Glen may be irreparably disillusioned with development. With that said, i hope he takes whatever time he needs to enjoy his life. So far beyond deserved. Maybe its time to try something like a comic book, eh? Imagine the art.
Callisto 2 underwater facility, walking at the bottom sea floor. Vast monsters and can explore different kinds of mythology monsters. If action based then make Callisto and dead space like Helldiver 2 game play with more content so it doesn't get old fast. Bringing horror to that will be amazing. Im so happy Dan you got to speak with a great man and get insight, back story. What an honor. Thank you for your content.
So Callisto Protocl copied System Shock and Calliso 2 you think should copy Bioshock, the spiritual sequel? Lmao. I liked the game but that's sort of a borderline sci-fi trope train.
Replaying callisto on new game plus has Been a Blast man..I hope it Gets a Sequel and man Glen has done some amazing work, been Playing his Games since I Was a Kid..
I actually bought it twice. Once for my Xbox One and again for the Series X and of course with all of the DLC. I really believe in this game and I've gladly supported it.
Fantastic interview! Glen Schofield is a true creative genius, his vision for The Callisto Protocol was incredible, loved the world building and sense of place and atmosphere, a really fun game. It’s a shame the game did not sell well. Still hope we get a sequel someday.
The problem with the Callisto Protocol is that it needed more time in the oven. It launched buggy and needed a few patches to fix in the first week, new game plus came later, riot mode, etc. If they had launched in say 4-6 months later, it could've been amazing. I still think it's a good game, and I got platinum on it within 2-3wks after launch. It just had a lot of missed potential.
What an interesting insight. The small enemy variety was a big issue in Callisto. Now hearing, that 3-4 standard enemies and 2 bosses had to be cut makes it make so much sense. Crazy they were able to ship the game in any state.
While I had many issues with Callisto Protocol, I´ve been always a huge fan of Glen and his work, it´s sad how things turned out. Hope his next project will be great.
Man the gaming community and industry are fucking brutal, it really broke my heart when people started sending him hate tweets disguised as criticisms and he responds kindly to them despite putting insane amount of hours and money and even health on the line, not many people would be able to do that and its worse when he talked about how one bad review can completely damage a metascore to the point where people can get laid off because of it.
Callisto protocol was a solid good game that was just short of being an amazing game for me. I think the 2nd game would have improved on all of the issues and would have been amazing.
man i loved collisto its just people were expecting dead space gameplay n glen deserves more respect man . i would of love! a sequel to calisto! just hearing the story behind the “business” it’s very true they be controlling n changing things from ur creative idea even wen he did dead space that’s crazy still glen is dope n made two of my favorite! games!
Just wanted to drop a comment to say I really l like Callisto protocol, it's a fun game. With some awesome tense moments. The dismember mode is an absolute blast. I freakin love the job the cast did too. Wish I could tell Tim that. I just think that the hype had become too much. People are gonna change their minds,.Watch. In a few years, people will come back to it.
The Callisto Protocol was great after the performance issues were fixed, too bad people hated it. The dodging system was innovative, and the story was intriguing. Don’t give up making games man!
@@elibrainless90 It was a poorly executed but cool. It should have punished you more for dodging the wrong way (left or right). Instead, you could almost always dodge in any direction.
I really like Glen, amazing artist and personally I like the exos in AW they gave new life to call of duty, Original Dead Space is amazing the atmosphere is perfect. I haven't got to play CP I will get round to it and I wish Glen all the best with his health and his future and if his daughter is into art I hope she does amazing things in the industry.
I played protocol so many times and I'm still not tired of it you have to look at it as headspace is range combat horror and protocol as melee combat and ranged combat and I love both I wish protocol could of had a sequel it's deserves it like the dead space remake
What an awesome interview... A lot of good questions, which kinda made a closure to some stuff around Callisto. Mr. Schofield seems to be very frustrated or let down with what happened with Callisto, and after hearing it, it was pretty heavy what all the people in Striking Distance went through and very understandable. I really loved that game (it wasn't perfect), I'm now even more fan of Glen's work. And btw nice interview Mr. Dan Allen.
I think calisto is a visual masterpiece. The gameplay works and pacing is good. It feels a bit repetitive and you are wondering how thwy alwqys run into eachother when the path before was blocked.. like.. "dont meet me there, take me with you!". The NPCs seemingly had a jolly walk in the park compared to my routes. 😂
Callisto is visually aesthetical. I enjoy playing it side by side with dead space they complement eachother really well it was great to have those two and a sequel to both would be great since it could've improve greatly
"They have no idea some of the implications these things have" No, they absolutely do. They do it because of it. They wanted Sony to punish Days Gone's devs for example. These people are malicious
I got a survey request from striking distance earlier this year asking for feedback on calisto and an upcoming project, took the time to make a list of things I'd have liked to see in a sequel but narrowed it down to simply, Gravity hammer. Expanded baton parry system. Spear mount for grip tool. Selective targeting of more then one biophage during setup window. Max making random appearances as an enemy in riot mode. And last of all... Jacob Lee with dual skunkguns😂
Now it makes sense, resignations up the ass. 2 & half bosses cut,3 to 4 other enemy types cut out thanks for shedding light on these undisclosed facts Glen & Dan. Personally Glen I loved Callisto, the vibe is so unique. Disney need to get you on an Aliens game my man, with those visuals and lighting man what a ride that would be. Single player 3rd person action story. Shame you can’t get Neill Blomkamp with his story boards from his aliens story alone, with Ripley and Hicks after Aliens the movie has so much potential to be a kickass aliens game fans are waiting for and with your direction and talent 👌🏻 it would something special. Love you Glen and thanks again. Take care of yourself.
3:54 Glen worked on Barbie? which one?!? Awesome interview. It was rough for Striking Distance. I want all the best for game developers and their future, including Glen.
Horror Gamers wanted an original game that wasn’t a remake, sequel or remaster and got Calisto. Then they rejected Calisto. 🤦🏻 I think that game was extremely underrated and Glen deserved a chance to improve with a sequel.
It'd have made more sense if Callisto came before Dead Space. Creativity-wise, I mean. DS was so unique, so many different variants of enemies, even pulling of baby creatures as enemies. They pulled stuff that wouldn't be tolerated now and it was unique. It inspired other (newer) game devs to pull off something similar, but obv. missing that charm that DS1 & 2 gave.
Callisto Protocol was a really good game. Completely underrated. Felt like and blend of Resident Evil and Dead Space. Hopefully Sony will pick up the ip and a sequel is made.
The only difference between my playthrough of Callsito vs. Dead Space Remake is that I actually played Callisto until the end. After about 5 hours of Dead Space Remake all I could think of was, "It's a great remake, but it's not the same as when I played it the first time back in 2008." I was 10 years old. I didn't even know it was a horror game. I didn't know horror games existed. I just saw the game for rent at a Hollywood Video, and I got my Mom to rent it for me. I had no idea of the madness I was about to experience. I remember having to stop playing because I was so disturbed (remember this was me when I was 10). But something about that game clicked. It managed to be fun, while still being scary. I had to finish it. And I did. No other game has ever made me feel the way the original Dead Space did. But I'm happy that Glen is still open to making another horror experience.

It sucks that they did the team dirty like that. Money money money it seems. Thank you for this interview! I LOVED THE CALLISTO
Money? it cost 200$ Million dollars if anything WHERE IS THAT MONEY GOES FOR AN UNDERWHELMING GAME??!?
Congratulations you’re the only one who loved it. Was the most mid game ever. Shooting and combat was fun but lack of variety and enemy designs were awful. One boss you fight like four times etc. those stupid pods that attack you from range like 30 times through the campaign it was so shit
@@deankelly5760too bad for you, if you didn't like the game, don't come here and yap about it being shit to someone who likes it
@@someone-_-5737Thats so unfair are you telling me the only people that should come here is someone who loves the game and no negative to say about the game and not people that hates the game?Thats toxic positivity
@@sakuragi1062 you can express your opinion on the game however you like, i was talking about how that guy replied to someone with a whole review about how bad is the game. Like if you don't like the game don't reply to someone just write a new comment.
Always interesting to peel back the curtain and hear about things from the dev's perspective. I wish more of them were able to speak this candidly about their experiences. Great job on the interview, Dan.
I personally loved The Callisto Protocol. One of the most visually striking and atmospheric games of the current generation.
shouldve made it into a movie lol
@@holostro the game feels like both a game & a movie lmao
I loved Calisto Protocol. The graphics, the acting, the pacing, the action, luved the melee portion of it, Idk why it wasnt more popular
Played callisto Protocol had a great time and solid game for sure 👍, hope we see the Callisto 2 because this game has legs to run, last time i had so much fun with a similar game was in Dead Space 2
Thanks man we fans of Callisto Protocol got to let glen know the game is loved to many on here are shitting on it in the comments
I love The Callisto Protocol! Gone through it three times. I absolutely love it. It’s not a huge open world game that takes a huge chunk of time. Straightforward and to the point.
That's its best feature. The industry has lost sight of a tight, linear experience. There should always be a place for it in my opinion
@@jarg8 EXACTLY
The callisto protocol is so underrated. At first i wasn't feeling it but the game completely won me over by the end.
Thanks for the experience glen!
I love Callisto Protocol. This guy is a gift to horror gaming.
Callisto Protocol was f-ing amazing. 🔥 Hope this man comes back . There’s a void in the market for a gruesome sci fi horror experience.
Please take good care of your health and hope to see you soon in the future !
masterpiece? lol
Didn’t make the cut? 🤣, you must of been playing a different game because that game was amazing! People just want to always be negative and cry about some shit smh.
The Dead space remake also faced the same issues. How did that turn out?
@@Brandon_Y. was referring to his previous work on Dead Space not callisto.
You act as if Glenn is the sole developer on this lol.
Nice interview! I hope one day Glen starts a small little studio... like 20-30 people and they just release a badass little indie horror game. Eitherway the OG DEAD SPACE is the scariest game ever made hands down!
Superb interview, Dan! So much insight! I'm hooked and listening to every word
This was a great pull Dan! Great interview. Glen is awesome and looks fantastic.
The Callisto Protocol is amazing
Wow, just tons and tons of respect and admiration for Glen. A true legend, thank you so much for all the amazing gaming experiences over the years. I’ll never forget the first time I played the original Dead Space
I enjoyed his Callisto Protocol, but I know many don't. I would LOVE to see him put effort into the sequel and just keep the graphics the same but improve gameplay and lore. I would love to test his new game but we'll have to see it one day.
Unfortunately he is no longer at Striking Distance.
The Callisto protocol was an awesome game, fantastic atmosphere made up for its shortfalls.
This a very underrated video.. We love ya Glen!!
What a legend, dead space and dead space 2 are some of my all time favorite games.
Mad respect for this guy
I feel like Glen Schofield would do Lovecraftian horror justice!
Lmao. I liked the game but that's sort of a borderline sci-fi trope train.
lmao
Replaying callisto on new game plus has Been a Blast man..I hope it Gets a Sequel and man Glen has done some amazing work, been Playing his Games since I Was a Kid..
Also just discovered your show Dan and I love how many of my favorite creators are being interviewed on your channel!
goat of gaming interviews Dan
Loved The Callisto Protocol when it came out and would’ve loved to see his idea for The Callisto Protocol 2. 🥺😭🥺
very well interviewed video, Glen is such a heartfelt talented guy, hope he continues to make great games
The Callisto Protocol was fucking dope
I actually bought it twice. Once for my Xbox One and again for the Series X and of course with all of the DLC. I really believe in this game and I've gladly supported it.
Such a great interview. Thank you!.
Fantastic interview! Glen Schofield is a true creative genius, his vision for The Callisto Protocol was incredible, loved the world building and sense of place and atmosphere, a really fun game. It’s a shame the game did not sell well. Still hope we get a sequel someday.
Thank you for doing this
Just played The Callisto Protocol, we really need a sequel to this game man
I always thought that Glen was a super creative guy. Its nice to hear from him again.
Always a pleasure hearing Glen speak
very respect GLEN your callisto is masterpiece , no joke
💯
Man the gaming community and industry are fucking brutal, it really broke my heart when people started sending him hate tweets disguised as criticisms and he responds kindly to them despite putting insane amount of hours and money and even health on the line, not many people would be able to do that and its worse when he talked about how one bad review can completely damage a metascore to the point where people can get laid off because of it.
Callisto protocol was a solid good game that was just short of being an amazing game for me. I think the 2nd game would have improved on all of the issues and would have been amazing.
Real gamers love you glen
Exactly 💯
man i loved collisto its just people were expecting dead space gameplay n glen deserves more respect man . i would of love! a sequel to calisto! just hearing the story behind the “business” it’s very true they be controlling n changing things from ur creative idea even wen he did dead space that’s crazy still glen is dope n made two of my favorite! games!
His Art is next level, he can draw with both hands at the same time
Loved this interview, Glen thanks for being a gaming developer legend
Just wanted to drop a comment to say I really l like Callisto protocol, it's a fun game. With some awesome tense moments. The dismember mode is an absolute blast. I freakin love the job the cast did too. Wish I could tell Tim that. I just think that the hype had become too much. People are gonna change their minds,.Watch. In a few years, people will come back to it.
Such a good game bro, it deserves a sequel
💯 Dani can be the protagonist
@Henrik.S8 its a very good option, but Jacob would be much cooler
The Callisto Protocol was great after the performance issues were fixed, too bad people hated it. The dodging system was innovative, and the story was intriguing. Don’t give up making games man!
Dead space remake is a far better product.
The dodging system was horrible lmao how can you say it's innovative?
It's still a dumbass opinion@RuthsDev71
@@elibrainless90 It was a poorly executed but cool. It should have punished you more for dodging the wrong way (left or right). Instead, you could almost always dodge in any direction.
All you do is hold the analog stick in a single direction to dodge lol. How is that innovative in any sense? You don't get punished for it at all
I really like Glen, amazing artist and personally I like the exos in AW they gave new life to call of duty, Original Dead Space is amazing the atmosphere is perfect.
I haven't got to play CP I will get round to it and I wish Glen all the best with his health and his future and if his daughter is into art I hope she does amazing things in the industry.
Glen is an inspiration, and i have learned a lot from him.
I played protocol so many times and I'm still not tired of it you have to look at it as headspace is range combat horror and protocol as melee combat and ranged combat and I love both I wish protocol could of had a sequel it's deserves it like the dead space remake
What a great interview love hearing from a legendary vet
I really enjoy this interview and it really explains how hard to make games.
Dan Allen.
Love this man. Thank you.
We'll be waiting for a response from Glen about the cut post-credits scene and the mysterious figure in MW3 😌
"They have no idea some of the implications these things have"
No, they absolutely do. They do it because of it. They wanted Sony to punish Days Gone's devs for example. These people are malicious
I got a survey request from striking distance earlier this year asking for feedback on calisto and an upcoming project, took the time to make a list of things I'd have liked to see in a sequel but narrowed it down to simply,
Gravity hammer.
Expanded baton parry system.
Spear mount for grip tool.
Selective targeting of more then one biophage during setup window.
Max making random appearances as an enemy in riot mode.
And last of all...
Jacob Lee with dual skunkguns😂
It deserves a sequel
i loved callisto, at release it barely ran but i just had to lower 2 settings and it ran perfect and looked insanely good
Big respect to Glen. Top bloke
My #1 space horror creator. Love all his dead space and Callisto protocol . 👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
We want good games, unfortunately The Calisto Protocol was mediocre
It'd have made more sense if Callisto came before Dead Space.
Creativity-wise, I mean. DS was so unique, so many different variants of enemies, even pulling of baby creatures as enemies. They pulled stuff that wouldn't be tolerated now and it was unique. It inspired other (newer) game devs to pull off something similar, but obv. missing that charm that DS1 & 2 gave.
@RuthsDev71 I dont care and if u want - tap the translation button.
@@sentinel9648 then no one will care about your lame opinion easy as that 🤷♂️
16:58 I'd like to know why he's not proud of DS1. It's my favorite in the series and one of the best of all time.
I feel bad for him. He was obviously very passionate despite Callisto Protocol not being very successful.
Callisto Protocol was a really good game. Completely underrated. Felt like and blend of Resident Evil and Dead Space.
Hopefully Sony will pick up the ip and a sequel is made.
Agreed. Even tho Glen isn’t with SD studios anymore they need to drop Krafton as a publisher and try and work a deal with Sony 100%
i love Glen, it looks like hes doing better
Calisto deserves a true sequel. I loved it more than Dead Space tbh and played it straight through.
Same here but it seems like an unpopular opinion
Wonderful interview and u really like glen
I love both The Calisto Protocol and Dead Space 1-2!
I for one loved the Callisto protocol.
