    You're doing great Nik!
Yes things are running behind and it still feels like spring with the temps and weather being so windy, cloud and crap. The slugs and snails are such an issue this year. We have aphids, black fly and rats in the garden. They keep making tunnels at the end of the garden right where the sprouts are growing.
I saved kale seeds this year so could leave the tops of the sprouts on and save those, if the rats don't get them.
I am taking this year with some you win and some you lose. I have re-sown a lot more seeds to get to where we are. I up potting one of our chilli's and it died.
We have had a lot of raspberries and strawberries this year though and the 3 sister in the repurposed sandpit bed are doing well. So glad to be getting courgettes again. We just had two runner beans on a Lady Di that was saved seed from a school growing project before covid lockdown.
One of our honeycomb tomato pots blew over in the wind on Sat and so we lose a few green tomatoes.
Our early maincrop potatoes Maris Piper and Desiree are dying off now. They have been light green/ yellow for some time so not holding my hopes up for a large harvest. They should be ready about the 23rd July.
I am just hoping for better weather come the summer holidays.
The buddleia is also known as a butterfly bush. Talking of which, i saw our first butterfly in the garden this year, yesterday. A Red Admiral, which was lovely.
I like to use sage in Italian dishes with oregano, rosemary and thyme. I want to grow marjoram but always forget to buy the seeds! lol
Not sure if i have asked you before but do you have a beach tent you could bring up to the plot for when Andy is a bit older?
I checked my photos from last year and our tomatoes didn't start ripening until end of July. 2022 were earlier because of the hot weather and heatwaves we had.
Anyway, hope you have a lovely week. Take Care!

I don't! But I ca always get one better idea than mine I was going to get a travel cot for him to play in. I may invest in a pop up tent. I am thinking of growing a semi circle of sunflower seeds too! So there is shade for him. Poor thing he is so blonde. I come down the allotment with one of my friends who had a little boy and an allotment near me so he will have a friend to play with lol but you don't see that as she is at her plot. She don't drive so it works out well. It's nice to have someone to talk to
I love Maria pipers I think I'm going to get them next year so they are larger
My potato are desperate to be harvest but as soon as I said I needed to do it it's rained!
My Nan had one in her garden and she used to call it a butterfly bush, I remember all covered in butterflies. Of course I completely forgot until now!

@@ThatBritishHomestead We bought ours in Tesco but not sure if they sell them still. I like that it has the extra ground cover flap for sandy shoes/ feet and you can bring it up to close it of a bit on two hooks so you can get them dried and changed with a bit of privacy. I even set it up in the living room and stick a kids sofa bed for TV night. Our kid loves it and it is a great semi indoor camping experience, especially when the weather is crap like this!
Cute idea with the sunflowers. Ours keep getting eaten. Just chitted some more for one more try this year.
I gave up buying actual seed potatoes and just get the ones from Tesco as you can still get different varieties. I never had anything good from garden centre potatoes. But yes i wish we had a dry spell before harvesting them.
I love those butterfly bushes but they can get quite wild.

I agree it's an incredibly difficult grosing season. Im having my worst 😂 i hope the blight keeps off your tomatoes. Would you be interested in doing any heritage tomato seed swaps for next year? Ive got around 40-50 varieties in my collection, sadly lost all my heritage tomatoes to aminopyralid this year though 😢 great update nik, lets just keep at it! My plot is still in May progress - wise

Enjoyed that - lots of nuggets of wisdom. 'I get what nature gives!' Love it. And yes, everything is behind because of this mad year of weather. Let's hope for some warmth soon ...

It's a god send! I don't know how I'd do it without the sling makes life so much easier. I've saved my sprout seeds too but they flowered out the sprouts I'd that makes sense? I'm excited to see what they are like next year. Must be an easier ways she shell them tho!

I loved this, Nik. You do share some really good musings with us.
Getting what nature gives is going to be a lesson for us all this year.
I gasped then laughed at the singed bay tree. Mainly how so nonplussed you are about what happened 😂😱🫣

Great update Nik. Love that structure! 👏🏽
Your just one plot away from the same as me 😂
11:41 but he has his own little cute tomatoe suave suit so it's fine 😂❤
    The sunflowers look amazing 🌼💚
What variety tatties you got in Nik? I'm leaving mine for ages as I learnt from last year and Sunday gone. Too small man! But Eric gets impatient 🙄
Can you grow all peppers outside? I might need to for space in the greenhouse.
Plots are coming on great. Keep it up 🌱🥰

    • @ThatBritishHomestead

I always grow all my peppers outside, and I get a good harvest this year... well you see them. Normally they are massive and I get massive peppers. Tons and tons of them and I freeze loads for winter and use them in canning this year.... I'll be well chuffed if I get a single pepper from all the plants.
lol what sunflowers? You mean the artichokes? They look like them but they are a root veggie.
I'm growing Cara, salad blue, Heidi. I don't really remember as I saved the seed potatoes from last year! To save on money and hopping I'd get a better crop.
Thanks for the lovely comment s
