You gotta admit it, this iPad is better than most tablets out there. I'm sort of tempted to buy one for college use
No one really makes Tablets anymore except for children. Most professionals use a surface pro. It's an actual laptop, not a blown up mobile os. I'd recommend that unless you're loyal to Apple or something. If you're normal you'd be better off with the Surface. But that's just my opinion.
Dynamic Duo I have a surface pro and I think this device is on par, (with iOS 11) The Apple Pencil just feels better than the Surface Pen in my opinion.
Yes, it's just your opinion. My younger brother bought the last iPad Pro for his mathematics studies at university and he absolutely loves it. He also has a custom built PC at home, so not an Apple loyalist, but he swears that the iPad Pro is hands down the best device for note-taking and light work.
Ryan Huang I don't like how the hard plastic feels on the glass. I like the texture better on the surface. Also I like using windows over ios when I'm trying to get work done quickly, my lectures move too quickly and all the windows applications support the pen better along with the fact that they are windows applications vs phone applications. But I guess if you want a better tablet, get the iPad, it has games and all that. I really only use my surface for school and Netflix if my iPhone dies. Maybe it's just me because I use my phone for everything.
Papa Beto get the big one
I bought an iPad 3 for high school in 2012 for $499. Worth every penny.
I bought an iPad Pro for college in 2016 for $750. Worth every penny.
I got a iPad 3 and am still using it and has been worth it, but it's pretty snail slow now!!! It crashes at time, I think for lack of RAM, and the last iOS installed on it really slowed it way now. In fact when it was NEW it wasn't the fastest, the iPad2 was faster because of the Retina screen on the iPad 3. In fact that's why 6 months later Apple released the iPad 4 with the faster CPU and lightning port.
I still use it every day at home and at work. I do plan to upgrade to the 10.5" iPad Pro later this year. I'm putting money aside to buy one later this year at around the time iOS11 gets released. I really need a new iPad. This time though I won't get one with cell service. I only used in a couple times on my iPad 3, and I could just link to my iphone if I needed to get cell service that way with T-Mobile. The 12.9" Pro one is nice, and BIG and that's the problem. If I only used it at home, that is the one I would get, but it's just to large to bring everywhere.
They are worth every penny. I'm still a very long time Windows user for the Desktop and I custom built this Windows 10 Computer I'm using right this minute. I have never owned a Mac and have no interest in one. I buy what I like. I'm not fan of Android of a number of reasons.
Does it have microsoft word? Is there any form of an adapter for a usb port? If so can i go from word on an ipad save to a usb than go to a windows pc for printing? Asking because i might be purchasing 1 later this week for college as well
jfgme
Yes there's Word. It's not the full version, but works just fine. As for printing, if the printer supports Airprint, you can wirelessly print right to it. Why bother with a USB stick when you can save to afford iCloud or use Dropbox and read that from any computer. You can use a simple web browser to go to iCloud.com and see the files you saved there. I haven't use memory sticks to transfer in a few years. Kind of old school at this point. You can get a lightning to USB adapter if you want. You would want to use Apple's, 3rd party ones really suck. For me, the cloud makes more sense.
JB Dragon ah ok good that word is there and that there is a lightning to usb adapter, so now i just gotta find out if its usb 3 or not so can. Uy a compatible flashdrive
Cambodia 900$ na sir
Don't dislike the video just because you are an apple hater, this review is pretty complete and covers every aspect of the product being reviewed wether or not it is an apple product
Lol I'm an Android smartphone user, Apple iPad user and a Microsoft Surface user XD
All platforms squad, ayyy
He didn't elaborate on what you can do with it that I can't already do more with a laptop
I agree. Notes taking and a lot of creative work is really where the iPad Pro starts to shine. Instead he focused on the iPad vs laptop comparison, which is a bit besides the point imo. Nevertheless good review.
dat boi I agree but the problem is that one minute after the upload there were already some dislikes which leads me to believe that those dislikes were aimed at the product and not the review itself
I love the iPad Pro 12.9 - I know not much has changed, but as an artist, I'm hoping the new 120 screen is going to make things smoother. :)
Watching it on iPad Pro 10.5.
Same haha
Me too
Same
Changiz K Baluch me to
Me too
I dislike Apple as much as the next guy, but can't deny their tablets are just leagues ahead.
Why do you and "the next guy" even dislike Apple? It's an honest question, I'd like to know.
RPS Same here, I'm pro Android and Windows but the Android tablet situation is so bad that I got an iPad recently. Never regretted it, partly because of how increasingly similar Android and iOS are to each other as of late.
Heck I still have my gen 1 Ipad3 and this will be my first replacement for it.
They have to give you a reason to upgrade more often and I just don't think it will ever happen. They will get bumps from time to time but it wont be anything like phone refresh cycles. So from a pure use case I think they should only put out new models every 3 - 4 years and every year they can bump the processor if necessary. In between they can just focus on software changes.
Compared to Android, hell yes. Android tablets suck, that's why they're not being made anymore. Compared to Surface, maybe in 10 years.
RPS leagues ahead??? Are you sure? Or have you been hypnotized by Apple marketing. Are they worth 3 times the price of competing products. They are better for some things but not for your average user. I will never understand a person buying one who uses it for email and Internet only, which is what most people use it for. Do they think it's cool, like a fashion statement like buying designer jeans for $300. Boy are people ridiculous. I see people on the bus all the time using an iphone to play candy crush, which I am sure is all they use it for besides phone calls. How stupid is that. They go into debt to own an iphone just to be cool. It is so far from cool.
Just switched from the basic iPad 9.7 to iPad Pro 10.5. This thing is a friggin revelation !!! Never going back.
Hey.. I see one of my videos being shown there! :-)
when they feel like doing it haha
The 8-Bit Guy did they ask for your permission ?
The 8-Bit Guy They should have given you a shout-out!
Mi Pad 3 The Ipad Killer Review.
pixelstudiov12.blogspot.com/2017/06/ipadkiller.html
I hear of of my songs in this too! Song is called "God Knows" and it comes in around 1:34 this tune is also in an episode of Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown Ep "Beirut"
4:50 tfw wanting a file system means I'm a nerd now? feelsbadman.jpg
Peahnuts your feelsbadman. File has one color it would be better optimized if you saved it as a .png or .gif file. #nerdtalk
the i guess I´m a petrol-head, becasue ive been wanting a car
Hablo wait, are you saying that .jpg only supports one colour? XD
no mouse support no sd card support no usb stick support no hard drive support no file system its still way behind the times !
david collin "Behind times" ?! By not supporting something most people have moved beyond? Yes sometimes it's pretty good for convenience but truth be told I never use them anymore - and the SD card can be used with an adapter if you really need it
Hello ipad pro 2017 user. My sincery question. Is it still worth it in $222 with very good condition and no issues 9/10 condition. Is it still worth it in 2023. I'm about to get it for drawing...thank you so much.
"Apple never lies about Battery life" - expect that one time when they even removed the indicator on the new MacBooks Pros lol
Funny to meet a German RUclipsr here ^^
iKnowReview That was because of a software bug. MacOS10.12.3 fixed that and the battery life on all 2016 Macbook Pros are fine now.
Wen man hier alles antrifft ^^
Proof apple paid them
iKnowReview Joo killian. wie geht's dir, man :D
Oh it's the 8-Bit Guy
I see you're also a man of culture
How is this cheaper than an Iphone...
Konrad Bdnkpf it just is.. barely
Konrad Bdnkpf iPhones have much higher demand.
I know, I know. Supply and Demand, monopoly bla bla. Still ridiculous if you think about it. I mean, they do it because they can, of course. Still sucks.
No, because of storage. If you match storage, the Iphone is more expensive.
Konrad Bdnkpf because an iPhone has cellphone GSM capabilities, and it's smaller with all high end specs and features, that cost.
This is meant for casual web browsing and media, SOME serious illustrators, convenient business applications, and for retired mom and dads to send their kids emails. Something for everyone, that's Apples approach to every product.
I never used an apple device and probably never will but that dosen't mean i bash everything Apple does...
They're doing their own thing and i respact that .
+ They raise competition which is always good for the consumer :D
Jony 772 Yay for positivity! I really like this comment lol
I had an iPhone 6 and it did a lot of things I didn't need and nothing I needed but the fact they are selling millions of them makes the competition do better. I don't care about build quality as much as functionality and Apple does just the opposite. I'm not going to bash anyone for buying Apple products but when videos like this come up I have to laugh.
Apple has created their own ecosystem. They make their products to where they work flawlessly if you buy into the whole ecosystem, such as owning an iPhone, MacBook, and Watch as I do. They just work so well with each other and Apple's continuum is hands down the best out there.
Actually Microsoft's continuum is much better. I plug my Windows phone into a monitor and it turns into a Windows 10 device, not just a phone attached to a monitor. It has a root directory and you can drag and drop files into folders like a PC.
Not The One Only problem is, Windows Phone aren't popular enough to where everyone can take advantage of it. Windows Mobile just never really took off, which sucks because I've always heard they're phones ran smooth just like iOS runs smooth for Apple. Had it taken off, it could have been a big competitor as I myself would've likely made the switch. But it's dead, especially for any of us Verizon customers.
I really appreciate the better cameras every one says they're not important in a tablet, can't tell you how many times I've used it to capture a question or a drawing in class whilst taking notes, this iPad is just great!
just came back from the Apple store, and holy crap it's so smooth when scrolling through pages!
You convinced me when I bought the first iPad Pro. I use it for college and I made all my works in here. The only reason why I use my laptop was for store my iPhone pics. I'm going to wait for another iPad version. My first iPad was the 2, then the Pro because at that time the 2 was annoyingly slow, so I'm going to wait until this thing gets totally obsolete. To conclude, I like your reviews, great video quality, you go straight to the point and you don't take a lot of time to give the information. The curious thing is that when the first iPad Pro was launched, your video appeared in my recommendations, then I didn't see more recommendations from your channel, and now that the new iPad Pro is out, your video was once again in my recommendations
Great review, to the point. Apple haters will surely dislike, but please know that tech enthusiasts like me found this a very neat and concise video. Thank you!
if you are a tech enthusiast how come listening to read-out Apple statistics satisfies your needs for heat and performance benchmarking, or an in-detail acmera test, or...
@therestofus You have an incredible channel. Keep up the great work!
There are very few "Apple haters" out there, most of the people you mean are just informed tech enthusiasts who keep Apple in check. Gobbling up Apple ads doesn't make you a tech enthusiast. l'm watching this on my Surface Pro and laughing my ass off.
Thanks! Seems I gotta be more careful what I comment these days with so many followers all over the place... :)
Don't, it was a nice surprise!
Great review man. Refreshing review style
IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A MAIN COMPUTER. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO REPLACE MOST PEOPLE'S LAPTOPS FOR BASIC MS OFFICE TASKS ETC. PEOPLE CAN GET THE IPAD AND HAVE A DESKTOP AT HOME.
Pay Attention HD I don't want to live on this planet anymore
you cab do that with any tablet so what makes this any better !! no mouse support no sd card support no usb stick support no hard drive support no file system its still way behind the times !
ummm someone didn't receive the notice about the file system and iCloud storage.
The mouse and keyboard will not disappear. Where did you get that from? While a lot of people can do without one; not having one is a productivity disaster. Businesses, professionals, content creators need those input devices. Haha, that was funny though.
Pay Attention HD are you crazy? A mouse and keyboard is not going anywhere. From a artist perspective it's hard to use vectors, 3d sculpt, and lots of other things with a touch screen or trackpad. And apple refuses to make their MacOS touchscreen. And full OS They aren't going anywhere.
I just got my iPad 10.5 with the keyboard and I love it! It’s a HUGE upgrade from my iPad Air 2
I have the basic 2017 iPad with 128GB and I use that as my main computer no problems
Ain'tMyself if I’m quite honest I forgot what people used laptops for 😂
I was just like you until I bought a Surface Book. Then I forgot where I left my iPad, and I must say I don't really care at this point.
Lita Ziang what apps do I need that the Surface Pro has that the iPad doesn’t?
Lita Ziang okay probably not going to like this, but there is Photoshop Mix, Fix, Express and Lightroom. Plus other photo editing apps which are be great. Yes they’re separate apps but it’s still possible
Julien Dufour, If you find it you could give it to me :D
I agree with you, the only reason I dont own an iPad at this moment is because I cant use a Mouse. This cant be fully considered as a computer and less than a Pro device if I dont have a mouse where i can use it as Pro entire day. With iOS 11 this got closer, but still no mouse. Just imagine, what you can do with a mouse inside of a Pro apps like Office, iMovie, Photoshop etc... will be awesome. Personally i use a lot citrix to connect to my computer workstations. They invented a Citrix mouse that can work inside this app, thats huge. Other Apps can do the same. Its called Citrix x1 mouse
8-bit guy!
Kevin Crawford yasssss !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kevin Crawford YESSSSS glad somebody notices =]
Kevin Crawford just ordered it. I own the 9.7 pro only 6 months old, but I couldn't help myself. 😊
Mi Pad 3 The Ipad Killer Review.
pixelstudiov12.blogspot.com/2017/06/ipadkiller.html
Beat Box
Not an iPad killer, it's an iPad ripoff, and android alternative, but not a killer by any means.
I don't actually prefer ios, but it's true, it's a Chinese ripoff
Are you kidding of course taking pictures is great! I design kitchens and having that thing around with me with the DISTO App is a lifesaver when I measure a room in a new building!
whatcha doing with two mugs dieter?
this is the best fit for pilot of cockpit task, no doubt i'll take this iPad
It's supposed to be a review, not a feature-recounting advertisement.
I felt like he was advertising it. But the Verge is also Apple fanboys.
Martin Pekár because it's pretty darn good
you can't expect review's to hate the product
Thisath Ranawaka But he didn't mention any bad things about it. And trust me, there is plenty. I can mention a lot.
Martin Pekár I mean yeah I can come up with many off the top as well but Verge reviews are more entertainment than indepth so can't nlane blame them
Thisath Ranawaka They might be more entertaining. But if you consider buying one and want to get some info about the product before buying it, don't go to the Verge.
Just bought the Pro 10.5 after years of the iPad Air. This is a great review. Well done. John UK.
I think when they say full sized keyboard, they are actually talking about the keyboards that attach to it, not the on screen one.
Yes you can, especially now that ios11 exists. I use my ipad as my main computer for work. Now I just have my Macbook Pro as my computer for my personal/school device. So when I am on vacation or on my day off, I don;t have to stare at anything for work anymore. A great second device but can definitely be used as a primary device if all you need it for is Word Documents, Powerpoint, Web Surfing, Gaming.
it's an iPad
exactly!! I am still not convinced
Raghuram Gaddam I'm sorry but that's a not very smart comment
S Jamil Lol if you need a mouse, a monitor and Mac OS I think what you’re looking for is a MacBook.
note: this is a reference to an earlier video about the iPad (329$) and not an argument for or against the iPad.
I think that's what he's trying to say, that MacBook and other Laptops can be a main computer, but iPad cannot.
Thanks for this early review.
Anyway, I would have appreciated a direct physical comparison to the 9.7" Pro.
you don't sound like a nerd tho
Proud Waffle more like a lame hipster
Proud Waffle never seen Soo little tech in a tech review
doesn't even look one.
He is right about the file browser though. Thats a big deal, especially for iOS.
Apple never included a file browser, but there has always been third party ones you could download. I've been using a file browser on my iPhone and iPad for years.
finally a better review from The Verge, focuses on the positives but still points out the cons. thank you !
Where's the review? All I see is a 6 minute long ad?
That's what a review is....
w35t51d369 You mean a review is the same as an advertisement? Are you dumb?
If they believe a product is good then the review just evolves into an ad. But I will forever recommend MKBHD because even when he likes a product he still points out what needs improvement.
Surely if this was an ad he'd be telling everyone to buy it... He clearly tells people to wait until iOS 11 is up and running to make up their minds.
μT The review is that this is perfect and there is nothing bad to say about it
I don't like his tone but as an Android to Apple convert who bought the iPad Air 2 a couple of years ago and finally switched to the Iphone 7 Plus after the Note 7 screwup I'm definitely interested in the new 10.5 Pro model. I am not a power user so I won't need the keyboard cover but the 256GB model with the pencil sounds awesome. I've had numerous tablets on Android and Windows and none can compete with the Ipad in terms of apps and speed.
When will the 15 inch iPad come out?
Pwn Omancer 12
Master of the Universe No literally, the 15 inch iPad
Mattia Righetti Apple's running out of ideas. Basically all they do now is copy other people and make their devices larger. The 15 inch iPad will probably come out in 2-3 years.
Gabriel Levgran I don't care whether or not the One Plus 5 is an iPhone clone. My point is that Apple is copying other companies for their software andhardqard
Hardware*
It's nice how you said it: if you know iOS (11) well enough, you can turn it into your main computer. I agree!
So why didn't they put all this features on the regular iPad like they did on the past, with the regular price, instead of a "Pro" category. It feel like cars at this point.
Kinda wanna buy the old model but it might not hold up in several years with newer updates. I learned that with my iPad 2
A guy that describes himself as a nerd but is an apple fanboy = Hipster!
Its exclusive to Linux users lol. That was mostly a joke anyway.
Nerds love technology, regardless of brand. Anyone who exclusively hates on a brand no matter what is just as bad as someone who will defend that brand no matter what.
Great video. Just got my new 10.5 iPad Pro and I love it.
cant wait for my pre order
Fruitarian You got it yet?
This is the first iPad I feel like upgrading to since I got the iPad Air 1. Apple's done a great job this time.
At start of the video The first thing which came to my mind was surface pro
A Clapham except the surface isn't a tablet and is more of a top heavy laptop
They officially started calling it a laptop with the latest Pro.
Randy Lowe it's just a fact that the surface line up isn't a tablet group. it's a top heavy laptop group.
mr evergreen
I don't disagree at all. I'm saying that Microsoft officially threw in the towel this year and started calling the Pro "the most versatile laptop".
Randy Lowe nah they've been lying telling people it was a tablet that could replace the laptop since the first surface pro and like the surface series in general.
It's not a new filesystem! The filesystem has always been there. They're giving you *access* to the filesystem. Using the Files app.
Turning aniPad into my main computer? Dafuk he talkin bout!
They are, actually, before Steve Jobs passed, he wanted iPads to replace the newspaper.
Thank you for being honest at the end about "is this a full computer". Still there is lots of info missing and a comparison to a surface would be good in doing that- Multiangle kickstand, more sturdy on your lap or desk, better pen, Adobe suite and desktop apps suppor, i7 and more. The verge still seems like an apple marketing site at times which is a shame.
There is a great improvement on this iPad but still no comparison seems like you're trying to hide some apple drawback cause of pure love..
Oh lovely, the camera which you'll never use sticks out so it can't lay flat.
Case.
It may stick out but most people will probably have a case on it!
Some companies or businesses use that camera to scan and email documents, so that extra detailed camera is actually useful. It may not appeal to the average consumer, but the iPad Pro is targeted at the more power hungry, business or creative minded people.
Ha LOL
I just saw one today at target and man it was awesome!!! The specs and the screen wow it is AWESOME!
“Apple never lies about battery life” umm not sure about that yes I'm talking about the 2016 MacBook Pro
problem fixed. It's software bug not a false ad on hardware. Learn your fact before posting a cmt
Savva Moser "Up to 10 hours on wireless web" mean you have around 10 hours when using web and it's true, not 10 hours of doing everything.
Miguel Bonilla are you using chrome? apple will assume you'll be using their own, optimised software.
Nope, reviewers after running the software update found the numbers actually exceeded apples estimate.
Can confirm, totally normal battery life now.
When you said "like a football team up 20 some points in the 4th quarter.." I thought you were referring to the last Super bowl when the falcons were up 20 some points in the 4th quarter and still lost. 😂😂😂
This sounds like an ad. No negatives?
the problem is the cellphone OS that survived from the blackberry competition days up until the post-pc era PRO tablets
I need both a work station and portability. I'm considering two options: First, a matchbook pro (for portability) coupled with a doc, 21.5 display, and mouse; or Second, an iMac (for workstation) coupled with an iPad pro. Which approach would you recommend?
meh.... the Files app isn't technically a "file system". It's more content aggregation from many online sources. We won't have true file system access until Apple allows us to use the device's space freely... which makes it a pain in the ass to use in comparison to Android tablets in that regard.
it has "on your ipad" folder too, which is obviously not some online sources. Did you watch iOS11 review carefully?
That's not my point. That's data saved by Apps themselves (that has always existed BTW). Unless I'm able to go to a website and press download on an item and not have to resort to DropBox to save it, it's not technically an accessible file system. It'd be nice for the damn thing to double as a portable USB drive to copy data out of it directly for once.
Watch iOS11 review again carefully, you will see that "On my ipad" folder in Files app. Data saved by Apps themselves exist within their apps - yes. But please be patient, when iOS11 release im sure they will have an update for saving offline directly to Files app. So you can browse files normally like on a PC. Because this feature did not existed in the past so they use online method most of the time. An accessible file system is no different because everything you do have to save in iOS file system. This app and every other apps that have this " accessible file system" is basically just create a big folder and put everything inside of it while do not let you mess up with other system folders outside of this big folder. So it's still an accessible file system, or to be more specific: a limited accessible file system. Do you get my point?
... I have yet to hear of anyone breaking their Android device moving files around. System files and folders are hidden from users and in order to access those you'd need root access to the device anyway so... not much of an argument there. This has existed on Android since it's creation so I don't see what I need to be patient about.
I get the perk and usefulness of it... It's just not something that makes my personal case with the device any easier.
Anything can happen, plus iOS files system is quite complicated to begin with, it's not like Android. On android it's in the app folder right away if im not wrong. But if they allow you to access and find that app folder in iOS, it's one hell of a problem. Not many users (if not most) can get along with it. Why should they make low tech consumers confuse when you can limit it and make it simpler to use by creating a big folder and put everything in it? so what I mean when I said "be patient" is wait for dev to make their apps accessible to this big folder, it's much more convenient than finding apps folders on iOS files system. Last thing: Different people have different preferences
That wall paint looks great!
I came here for a review.. all i got was a fan-boy!
Twunk you exposed him. Well done
Just owned a ipad pro last monday and i wasn’t wrong buying this gadget. Thanks apple your really the best gadget ever
It's a good tablet, but if they're trying to sell it as a laptop I'll just buy the surface.
For the first time, I have liked a Verge video
You nitpick the heck out of the Surface keyboards but this gets away with "a little bit awkward on your lap" plus you brush away the lacks compared to the Logitech boards with "I like [the iPad one]". Then you low-key call everyone who would expect a proper filesystem a "nerd". I don't want to say you meant "nerd" in a negative fashion but rather few people label themselves as nerds. Due to this you smartly advocate Apple not giving their customers appropriate control over what is theirs.
I don't scream *BIASED!* under every The Verge video but this sly normalization strategy is just too much.
What else would you expect from Verge? They've been known for extreme Apple bias since the site started.
4rtificial1dioty
Apple has been known to blacklist people who are too critical of their products. That's what happened to Linus.
People in North Korea doesn't get this badly brain washed as we who watch these reviews...we should all just stop watching reviews from the verge
I always heard that the Apple pencil was great. It is indeed frustrating there isn't an eraser on it though...
But the Apple pencil is really good.
It's true that iOS isn't that good for multitasking (at this moment), but he said that, he also said it will change with iOS11. I've seen WWDC 2017 and iOS11 bring some great multitasking functionality (in my opinion). Of course, it cannot compare to the surface pro. But i look at the iPad as a tablet. The surface Pro is still a notebook, that you can use as a tablet. Hence why there are i/o on there too. Now i think it might be clear that Apple will (might) never put an SD card slot in the iPads, though, i think there is an adapter for that, but i'm not sure.
Even then, you know that Apple hasn't any sd card slot on there to maintain the closed environment. Which up until this day, i appreciate, i didn't ever have encountered any problems with my iPad or other Apple products. I'm an Apple user since 2009. Before i have always built my own PC's, but i wanted to try something else. And then the Macbook Pro 2009 came in my life (in that time, that was really a great laptop), and i never looked back.
Not of course, Apple does make mistakes, they even said themselves. And they are expensive as hell. But it's true when they say: It just works...
You can argue all you want. In the end, i'm using it for pro stuff, i'm making music with my Mac Pro, i do some video editing, Web developing, graphic design, all which yes, you can do on a pc. But i prefer macOS to do it, and i haven't had any errors, or faulty drivers, or any of those shitty problems. I'm just very productive and i like it that way.
Now, if you want a powerful gaming pc, then yes, built your own pc, will perform so good, certainly when you put some gtx titans in it and a good i7, or whatever you can get these days...
It might be a good device on itself to actually write or draw with, but at $99 (Surface pen was included until now but it sells for $69 i believe, with interchangeble pen tips) with a battery life of 1-2 DAYS that you awkwardly need to recharge on the port of the device like a lollipop or with a weird adapter is just crazy. The Surface pen has a removable AAAA battery that lasts a full YEAR so you can just do what you want without having to worry.
Along with the weird "smart" keyboard and the extremely painful charging location of the Magic Mouse, this is one of Apple's worst products ever.
I just don't understand how something like that can end up in production.
I think a great addition to this iPad Pro would have been a type c usb. There is no point in making this machine your primary "computer" if you can't even connect a drive to transfer some holiday photos.
LOL if you're 'such a nerd' then I wonder what the guys at ArsTechnica or AnandTech are. You might also be the only nerd that calls this tablet as 'overkill'.
I'm very interested to see AnandTech's deep dive into this tablet. The performance and display benchmarks and discussions especially.
They are super duper nerds :D
For ios it's overkill indeed. For android. Not that Much.. with the full windows like experience I can get from freefrom nougat feature and extreme live wallpapers. Ios 11 is like an android N demo
Ammar Malik he's a nerd in the same vain as how their personnel are "geniuses"
***** the 18 core imac pro will annihilate the surface pro. A triple sli gtx 1080 will destroy the graphics on the surface book. See what I did there?
I love using this iPad Pro 10.5 so much that I am using it to watch this video... I am using it for student kind and more on the media consumption... So it can actually replaced from a laptop... But i admit.. there are some things that can’t be done on the iPad Pro.. So cheers :)
Don't buy any device with 120hz
I bought a 120hz monitor 2 years ago for my gaming PC - and I can't help but notice whenever using a 60hz display (basically everything with a display) that it just doesn't feel as great
its that good
2:08 The truetone display is not necessarily a good thing. It basically matches the color temperature of the display with the color temperature of the surrounding ambient lighting which is good for reading only as this relaxes the eye while reading. For anything else, it's better to disable the function as it will alter the colors of any other content like videos, games, photos and so on, if left on.
how they get away with charging 700+ for this thing, without the accessories, is a crime
Lewis LA ✎ the base model is actually $650
TheAverageRUclipsr Don't forget tax
Lewis LA ✎ capitalism
I'd have bought one if I could code on it... But I bought one anyway... As a birthday present for a family member. Can't wait to check it out!
This is how apple haters watch a review
When The reviewer says surface is better=most unbiased review ever!!
When The reviewer says the ipad is better=video sponsored by apple
I’ve watched a couple reviews about this iPad and u had the best one
'Main computer' makes me want to buy a Surface just out of spite.
Corvus this is much much better than a surface
Then you're much, much more delusional than you think.
Giorat23 if you're serious I feel bad for you
Look on reddit about Surface pro 128GB Read & Write Speed & you will be really disappointed by the result.
Burrito Chingon yeah, I tried the surface pen, even though it had an eraser IT WAS PLAIN GARBAGE! I tried the Apple Pencil and it was way better... iPad is way simpler and faster too... and of coarse it's connected to all apple devices like all Appel products which no other competitor does...
What a fantastic review. Bring this guy around more!
Come on, do a check for the amount of RAM
Bhavik Singh 4 gbs of ram according to Engadget.
Bhavik Singh Apple never says, but it's reportedly 4gb.
Bhavik Singh 4GB, finally
VeikkoVenemies The last generation iPad pro also had 4 GB of RAM
Red Tha Producer Yes, but only the 12.9". Now both models have it.
So torn apart between 10.5 & 12.9. The larger screen in beautiful and can be a lot more productive when splitting screens or drawing, but the form factor of 10.5 completely outclasses the 12.9.
Actually watching on an iPad Mini 2 XD
Gabriel Leung using my iPad Pro to watch this but I miss iPad mini 2.
Watching this on my iPad 10.5 just get one this thing is awesome
this guy is the best reviewer on verge. Not biased at all.Loved this review!
Anand Rao really? He seemed insufferable
Phoopa Ruengnirundon Ikr
I can't wait to upgrade. This was supposed to be my 30th birthday gift from my folks...that was almost 2 years ago. Glad I waited though, the 10.5" screen looks awesome & iOS 11 is gonna be killer on this new device! Definitely going 512GB though. My Air 2 is basically my computer, I don't even use my MacBook anymore unless I absolutely have to. I have a feeling iOS 11 on this new iPad Pro is gonna replace my computer entirely!

one thing I think most people are missing: this iPad is stupendously good bc apple isn't competing with the Tab S's and the Pixel Cs of the world anymore. they're coming for the surface pro line. and against the surface pro, the iPad still falls short in many areas.
A file system? Is everything in iCloud or local? I have that on Android for years and decades if you are talking about my "main computer". If it can have fully featured Photoshop, if it can access my 4TB NAS natively, if it can install 12 different web browser, if I can automate rendering hundreds of videos via ffmpeg, if it can run every Fallout games from 1 to 4 and shelter, if it can connect to a USB keyboard without a dongle, if I can use it without any interface but the keyboard. Then I can consider using it as my "main computer".
Oh wait, the Surface Pro can do all of them and the iPad Pro can't.
Harry Tsang hows that play store for u?
Harry Tsang 😂😂😂 Surface Pro's amazing!
Harry Tsang why the hell is it a good thing I use a battery to power USB ports. Rather use an iPad and an actual pc then a device that’s not quite either.
the flash for the camera stands out. if you noticed
It's sad they don't put any links to the Background music. Way to be a tease guys...
The best advice ever for iPad pro. Wait for iOS 11. can't agree more.
Dude come up for air... Ya got a mouth full of Apple gizz on your chin
u guys are best making reviews
could you be more of a fanboy?
James Shafiei You cannot ask for a better review
Well... it is the Verge man. Did you really expect objective review?
James Lim I know, but even for the verge this is bad... I can usually just ignore the fanboy comments no matter which side they're on, but this was next level.
Aditya Salunke correction: you could not pay for a better "review".
If you're too critical when reviewing Apple products, you will get blacklisted. They have to be very careful
I got mine today, and the screen really is as good as people say. You have to see it to believe it.
yes its good. 144hz monitors have existed for like 5 years. But its first on a thin tablet which is great.
Amir Actually it's a first on a mobile device(excluding laptops)
So, get a Surface. Got it.
Steven C lol
Steven C lol ikr
That’s aimed towards a laptop not a tablet
its the 8 bit guy restoring that macintosh!
the new "i want to be surface pro but i can't"
Eliad Buchnik lol
wow a file system.. very revolutionary... nobody else have these.. expet of android, windows, blackberry, ubuntu
No team has ever scored 27 points in football. And there are only 2 halves
mogolfiero HATER ALERT.
mogolfiero american football*
mogolfiero football is an umbrella term for many sports. you're describing association football (colloquially called soccer for short in America, though coined by the British), he's describing gridiron, or American, football.
mogolfiero if you are referring to actual football, teams have scored more than 27 goals in a game.
What's up homies! Hit me up with some knowledge!
Why does this awesome, superbly edited beautiful thoughtful review have a THOUSAND dislikes?
The lack of criticism is disturbing... The Verge is becoming the apple fanboy Channel.
bichovergara I also found it odd that there were close to no criticism in the review. /iPhone user
At this point, it might just be that criticisms are simply becoming hard to come by. Tier 1 laptop and tablet OEMs are simply getting really good at what they do. Apple definitely has the build quality down, they've been stepping up their onboard audio for a while to become top tier, their A-series SoCs are class-leading and are more than powerful enough to handle anything a regular consumer would need to do, and the screens on the iPads are excellent, especially now with the 120hz upgrades. Most people truthfully can do everything they regularly do on a regular Windows/Mac computer with this iPad. It's just power users and certain types of professionals that can't now.
As for iOS, I'm not personally that big a fan of it, but that's simply because I like customization and the look of Android (Nexus user). However, the OS is very sturdy with robust-ish multitasking capabilities, and the improvements of iOS 11 look to be actually useful. (Well, except for the weird way they implemented dragging multiple files, that's just unnecessarily complicated)
The Verge is pro Apple everything. They give Apple the best reviews for every product no matter what. There really isn't that much of a major difference over the last Pro's that Apple made. But we can't expect The Verge to point that out because they're like a side marketing department for Apple. The IPad's are great consumption devices and you can minick real PC use but it's not going to replace a PC or a MAC period.
also they just kill the Chromebook Pro in their review. and it's better than the iPad and more productive to be the main computer. and 100$ less.
The Verge is an apple Channel
I’m watching this on my iPad Pro 10.5” IOS11. :D
What exactly are the things that the iPad Pro can't manage that a laptop can ? Genuinely curious.
saNjan1CE i guess unless ur a developer, there really isnt.
+華氷 yes you cannot do real 3d model work like autocad or solidworks! so for an engineer or industrial designer is less appealing
saNjan1CE you can't use Unity or Adobe Illustrator or Atom. No software for devs is a big problem.
Print to a networked copy machine (Canon, Kyocera, Savin) natively. One can use an Air Print server as an intermediary, but does Air Print even support duplex, stapling, or copy codes? These are things people need to do in work scenarios that depend on printed documents and not having a print driver model is a pain. I'm curious how the Files app will help with uploading content through web interfaces (the dreaded Browse button on an upload form when you are working on iOS). It is fine for cloud services and content consumption though. It is excellent for note taking in academic contexts as well. The classic cars versus trucks metaphor is still a little off. The iPad Pro is a scooter that just got a canopy to keep you mostly dry when it rains.
It can't run full photoshop or final cut and if it did it would be a pain to use without a mouse or trackpad
