    Good idea Chad. I found my Driver distance was less when I tried single plane swing too. Then again, like many golfers the Driver is not my best club!
    I swing just slower than you with Driver( 87-93 according to my PRGR) and I definitely need back spin to keep the ball in the air. Since I started golf about 5 years ago, I have been on a "driver per year" or more quest . I started with a PowerBilt 10.5, then Cobra F7, F8, F9 in rapid succession. I had the Cobras set at 12 degrees ( closed face). Then I found the Cleveland HB Turbo 12 degree and I finally got reproducible spin/ launch. As I improved with Driver I noticed that I was getting the ball too high with the HB Turbo, so I recently bought the new Cleveland Launcher XL ( adjustable) and have gained 10 m ( 11 yards) seta t 10.5 degrees . I did fool around with the Nike Vapor speed Drivers ( 44 and 45 inch shafts) to see if the flat and upright settings helped my shot shape and accuracy. Answer : yes it did allow me to avoid one side of the course and yes I was more accurate at 44 inch, but lost distance.
    I had the opportunity to use my old F9 Driver again after 18 months. I was amazed how much it had improved! I have found that more slower swing speed players that some balls spin more and help with carry distances ( e.g. Kirkland Signature) which is good in winter conditions when there is little roll to be had.

      It's really like tweaking a recipe, right? Loft, length, speed, spin, angle of attack, kick point, shaft flex, golf ball compression, etc. All interconnected and all have to work in concert just right.

    • @Sueezedtight
      @Sueezedtight 2 года назад

      Higher tee height will lower backspin if it lets you hit the ball just above the centre of the club face. With the ball placed properly in the stance (just inside the lead toe) so that you hit on the upswing ball flight height is no longer a problem.

    Sweet… this is a series I’d make myself if I didn’t dislike cameras 😂
    A few comments…
    Bryson has done a number of more casual videos lately that were eye opening to me. Building a higher baseline swing speed isn’t just about bombing drives.. it also allows you to hit short irons and wedges 30-40 yards farther (in his case) while maintaining the landing trajectory and spin for that club. HUGE potential advantage if you can hold a green more easily than others at 30-40 yards farther out because your hitting a 8 or 7 instead of a 6 or 5 (or 4) trajectory.
    Otherwise, looks like you are fairly well optimized for the club head speed you measured, based on available tables on the interwebs…
    That said, your driver speed does seem a little low relative to what it must be for your other clubs.
    My personal observations in my own similar pursuit..
    I initially took about a 30yd hit when I changed to the moe type swing, but I recovered it completely over 5 months or so. My average is now much higher than before because of consistency, but I think its just taking time to cement the sps fundamentals and add speed back in without it falling apart. I can now hit all the fairways for about 9 holes straight before I start spraying a little bit as I get loose, and faster…. but it keeps getting better

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 года назад +1

      I agree with what you said, and you're absolutely right about the swing changes needing to become second nature before seeing the real and lasting benefits. That's been true with all of the swing models I've reviewed over the last few years. And I do expect that the rest of my bag will be influenced by more clubhead speed for sure, but there's something off with my driver swing. I should be swinging at around 100 for my size, athleticism, and relative ability. 92 at my age, with no real physical limitations, is just unusually low. That's why I'm diving in.

  • @Sueezedtight
    @Sueezedtight 2 года назад +1

    I gained chs AND sf when I learned to keep my trail foot down at impact. When you "crack" a whip you don't move your hand as it is the "anchor". When the trail heel stays on the ground, it makes the torso "rotate" faster and lets the trail arm "extend" through impact. More chs. It stabilizes the club face resulting in a more solid center face contact so that sf goes up.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 года назад

      I'll definitely try that! It'll be fun to measure the differences.

  • @timothypollock8358
    @timothypollock8358 2 года назад

    What Sueezedtight is saying is essentially what I was telling you except that I think that you won't be able to keep your trail heel down in such a way as to allow faster more centered rotation and trail arm release until you fix the other two things that I was talking about. Tightening up the movement of the trail elbow in the late BS and having more of a "supporting a tray" position of the trail hand would both help. Your driver CHS and distance are quite close to the LPGA average which seems to suggest a reasonable level of optimization. In any case, nice video and I'll be interested in watching your progress and hoping that you make some significant gains without having to resort to Kale sandwiches (which seems a bit like a Popeye approach to golf distance improvement) :-) Cheers.

      @@GolfTestDummy True story of the week(it's true, I'm not kidding): Not entirely golf related but somewhat. I'm 16 (1976) and on a trip in an RV crossing the western third of Canada and we play Banff Springs on this one day (great course) and continue on for several hours until suppertime. We arrive in Rogers Pass, BC at an RV campground which is quite remote. After supper, I'm outside the RV swinging my driver and it gets pitch dark rapidly but I keep swinging until I start to get creeped out and feel as though I'm being watched. I go inside and start to get ready for bed (around 21:45 or so). I'm in this tiny washroom cubicle with a tiny louvered window at chin height which cranks open with a handle. I open it thinking of a bear that we had seen earlier raiding some garbage cans and immediately hear some noise just outside the camper. I quietly enter the main area where my parents are sitting in semi darkness chatting at the small dining table. I announce quietly but energetically that a bear is going through some litter that we had left outside and had not picked up yet before bed (the sites are enclosed by trees and we cannot even see the next site). My Dad pops up and turns on the flood lights on the top rear corners of the camper because the picnic table and fire pit are opposite the corner closest to the washroom. We all crane our necks to look toward the picnic table and noone spots anything. I am somewhat miffed and surprised because it had only been less than a minute since I heard the noise. I go back into the washroom quietly closing the door behind me and peer out the little window. All I can see is the shadow of a tree and I start to blankly stare at it wondering what happened to my bear. Slowly it dawns on me (maybe 30-40 seconds) that the tree shadow (which is absolutely still) cannot be a tree because the light is coming from the camper and all the trees are at least 20 ft. away and very large but the shadow is tree-like but not that tall for a tree and I suddenly am terrified that an erect startled grizzly is quite near (because nothing else could be that size) but I'm not sure exactly where. As this terror is crystallizing in my mind, the shadow moves and my mind goes blank as a humanoid creature steps in front of me side-on within arm's reach. I am close to 6 ft. tall at this point and standing 30 inches above the ground on the camper floor and this thing is still a few inches taller (maybe 8'8") and absolutely massive (no less than 700-800 lbs). I am so scared that it will turn and look at me and I am unable to breathe or move. After a pause of maybe 5-10 seconds where I can see its hair and human-like profile, it suddenly does a right-face and strides off with tremendous speed and power covering 20 ft. or so in 3-4 strides. People go back and forth on whether Sasquatch is real; let me tell you, it's real!!

      Oh I love this! BTW, STILLLLLL for some reason there are several messages a day that end up not getting published and I can't always find them. Lucky to find this one, but dozens of others are getting lost. Anyway, I'm so infatuated with Bigfoot stories and shows and documentaries. I can't say I'm a believer yet, mostly because I haven't had an encounter and the overwhelming majority of photos, eyewitness accounts, etc are sketchy. But I have seen a few pieces of evidence over the years that are incredibly compelling and I know that it's at least mathematically possible. So I will keep watching....

      @@GolfTestDummy Check out Todd Standing's film "Discovering Bigfoot" wherein he claims to have filmed several of them in closeup detail. It is available here: ruclips.net/video/d7SpzTeodx0/видео.html (free with adds, also on Netflix I believe). His encounters all took place within 100 miles of mine. He says that he has been chased, threatened and followed by them among other things and that he located and got reasonably close to several family units through much patience and by employing things like camouflage and ulta sensitive equipment. He filed a court case in BC to have them recognized as a protected species citing his proof of their existence which ultimately failed but was highly publicized. If you look at 1:08:10 and the next few minutes of the film you will see him gradually zoom in on one that is hiding several 10s of metres from him. His video is so clear in a few cases that it is widely believed to be CGIed or something of the kind. He filmed at least 3 different faces that I have seen in recognizable detail. He also has several wildlife biologists that believe him. I also do because what he has filmed is very much the nature of head and face that I saw and the pointedness of the head in the footage is also a commonly mentioned characteristic in sighting accounts. In my case, I will never forget it because the first impression of it was in the shadow that I saw before it emerged. I remember wondering what strange angle I was seeing this bear from that made its head appear so pointed (also interestingly somewhat reminiscent of a gorilla's head). Cheers.

After taking my 8 year break, I started off the opposite. Just play controlled. And now adding speed is much tougher. Partly because I'm a lot older, but also because I'm trying to develop speed within a certain set of parameters, and it's stifling.
