Very similar results out of my Ruger .450 Bushmaster. I tried the blue box federals, winchester whitetail, and hornadys. Honady far out performed the rest. Tested in (3) different rifles, 2 Rugers, 1 CVA.
My experience & others has been that those Hornady come apart. Jacket and core rarely stay together in deer. But you have to feed your gun what it likes to eat. If you care to have weight retention and a bullet that will stay intact, go with those Federal. They fly almost as well as the Hornady in my Ruger 450BM & over 95% weight retention & open up perfectly.
Federals out of mine were same as the video. 2-4" groups. Both 260 and 300 gr. 2" consistent I could live with with this round. I'll pass and stick with the Hornadys (repeatable1" cold bore) till I try out the Deer Season XP that my Dad swears by as far as best accuracy.
I’ve recovered 3 bullets now out of deer using the Honady Black 250 grain with my 450. All 3 have opened up nicely and 0 separation of the bullet and the copper jacket. Plus from my experience and so many videos and articles it’s always at or very close to the top in Accuracy
Similar experience. At about 65 yards jhp held a inch group but at a 100-110 yards they spread to about 5 or six inches or more. It’s like a rifle ain’t a rifle to me if it won’t group at at the minimum a 100 yards. Hell I got a 10mm carbine will shoot out to 200 easy peasy
The hornady black and customs seem to Do Best for 450. But idk..the on game Performance leaves something to be desired,i shot a hog with fed non typical 300gr and it was superb, that was open sights..scope Is being mounted tomorrow
I to like the Hornady wondering what if anything is the difference between custom and the black could not get black last time I got shells for it very well done video not a bunch of BS just the facts
Thanks man, I was wondering the same thing about those two types of ammo. I seen other ppl shooting the custom in their videos. I just figured the custom was the old branding and they changed it to black, but I really have no idea.
I felt like the hsm may have been a fluke, so I went out and shot another group and it didn't do as good as the time in the video. I plan to reload for this, but it's hard to find all the components right now.
My dad only shoots reloads out of his guns. He gave up on the 450 after trying for 2 years. Nothing he tried did better than the Deer Season XP. By better I mean less than 1/2" group @ 100 yds. He's a fanatic.
The main ammo I run for my 450 BM is Hornady browns they claim its precision cut cases better for cycling with a bolt and I can say I have never had an issue with chambering yet.
@@TheHooliganOutdoors Same. I stocked up early last year while they were $30 a box but I'm down to one box now and haven't seen them in over a year. Seen them online recently for $35 but then I would also have to pay shipping. I'm hoping some will pop up soon locally since hunting season is comming up. I just did a video shooting them 400 yards accurately out of my Patriot...
Best ammo review ever. This video should be a model for all ammo reviews everywhere. Perfect.
Thanks man, I appreciate that!
Perfect review....short, concise and to the point. Thank you!!
Thanks man, I appreciate it 👍
My Ranch 450 also loves Hornady Black ammo. Just got my obsidian 45 suppressor out of NFA jail. Cant wait to take it in the deer woods this season.
Very nice!
My 450 AR loves Hornady Black as well.
Concise. This is how you do a Good ammo test video. Great job, man!
Thanks man, I appreciate that!👍
Air pump for barrel cooling. What a great idea!
Works pretty good!👌
Enjoyed the post. Well done.. Excellent!
Much appreciated!
Great video ,great rifle ,hard to beat the Ruger American for the price
No doubt, I have 4 of them and they all shoot great.
I own the .350 Legend. Ruger is tough to beat when it comes to a reliable, solid performance in the field.
Very true, that's why I own 3 of them and may end up buying one in 300bo at some point. lol

Awesome man, good to know!👍
I own the 7.62x39 version looks like the entire American line is awesome. Thanks for sharing
Awesome, thanks man! I also love my x39 RAR👌
Great test, thanks for sharing, quick and to the point.
Thanks man! 👊😎
Very nicely done!!!
My go wild with the 22 inch barrel loves them power points, thats crazy!
Damn good video. Excellent
thank you sir, i appreciate it!
That aiming point on the target pretty cool. I have an air mattress pump from Coleman...i think I'll also use it like you did too, haha.
Hell yea, works perfect lol
That hsm was significantly better. Your standard deviation was perfect and POI was a windage shift. In sure that first shot was an error on your end.

Love this rifle , paid almost $800 Canadian for it about 2 years ago
Yea all the ruger american rifles seem to be very accurate and well made 👌
Hell yea! I use a battery powered air mattress pump from Walmart too...everybody laughs at me at the range
Works like a charm! lol
Hornady does the job
Definitely 👍

Very helpful

I'm gonna say the HSM won the shootout But I really feel like the 450 is a reloaders round.

Same grouping style as the Blacks super tight.
Does your have problems jamming? Our ruger american compact jams pretty bad and we don't like that, wonder if the ranch is better.
I'm glad I only bought Hornady for my Patriot...
Can't go wrong with the Hornady, all my rifles shoot it pretty good.
@@TheHooliganOutdoors Hornady is the golden standard in my opinion.
Oh yea for sure. Bad thing is now that I know what it likes, I can't find anymore in stock anywhere locally lol

oh niiice, ill go check that video out right now👍
What sized rings did you use on the gun? I’m mounting a 3/9x40 and can decide between low and medium rings
pretty sure I used some leupold medium rings for this one.
how hard was it to rep
ace the trigger spring?
It's pretty easy, they have a video showing how to do it on the mcarbo website. It took maybe 15 minutes.
Would the 250gr FTX bullet be good for black bear under 100yds ?
Yea I would use it, I think it would work good for bear under 100 yards 👌
