You need to go back and play the Half-life games, especially if you enjoyed this game. They're amazing games with really fun worlds packed to the brim with neat little events and details, at the very least play the original (which wasn't apart of the orange box,) you're missing out on so much.

Thanks for putting this on my radar, Matty! I loved Ion Fury, so I’ll be picking this up when it goes on *steep* discount. I have a thing about trophy lists; I refuse to support devs that push difficulty related trophies or otherwise tedious trophies, so I only pick up those games after multiple deep discounts.
I played Ion Fury like a year or two ago. I didn't know they were even making a sequel.

I bought the game despite the middling reviews. Played for 3 hours straight and didn’t want to stop. Is it the best shooter ever? No, but for the 17 dollars I paid for it it’s worth it.

I understand you gotta get your bag, but sponsored reviews ain’t it. First off, it feels like they bought their way onto the main channel because this is absolutely a game you would normally showcase on Retro Rebound. Secondly, reviews and “final verdicts” have always been framed as impartial assessments.
If you want to do sponsored overviews of games to generate more income, that’s totally fine, but shoehorning this into a series that has held a certain level of integrity isn’t great (in my opinion).

You need to play Half-Life 1 and 2 and Episode 1 and 2 on PC. They still hold up today.
Like Ion Fury and Ion Fury Aftershock, very skeptical of Phantom Fury mostly due to the developer. Don't like exploding enemies in any game and much prefer to see their lifeless corpses on the ground.
Ik what youre getting at, but the bad AI is not charming lol. Like you said, it's trying to be Half Life 2, which worked well in this style of level design largely because of its great AI.
I don't remember the AI in HL2 being that great lol
@@Evilshtt353 I thought it was pretty good. They were unpredictable, and would flank, etc. Maybe not quite FEAR but a noticable step up from AI these days.
@@Sir_Robin_of_Camelot In my playthrough of Phantom Fury, they pretty much did like 1 of 3 things. Some would flank, charge you, stay back and shooting from afar, sometimes in cover. Pretty much like HL1 and 2.
Its not the greatest AI but its basic enough that it gets the job done. By the end I could count on one hand how many times the AI literally just broke and did nothing.
Also, we were spoiled with FEAR, games these days have yet to match their quality of AI. I'd say the AI in this game is better then your average boomer shooter AI because they can do more then 1 thing. I'm just confused as to how other boomer shooters get praised but have terrible AI.
Don't get me wrong, this game isn't great, but its not bad. Its not even close to being as bad as people are making it out to be. Its average at best.

No. Voidpoint is Ion Fury and Aftershock. Slipgate is Phantom Fury.

So, now a days, being an Immersive Sim Shooter is a drawback to some? To whomsoever it's a drawback, please stay away from this game, and let us enjoy it in peace. For example, MMOs are not my thing, so I don't play them, go near them, or ineract with them, and don't bad mouth them. Simple.

Matty trying to plug up the game's holes like how the bad AI might be subjectively "add to the charm" because it's trying to replicate games from that era.
I don't understand this point of criticism. The AI in majority of boomer shooters is not good. Aside from possibly, Selaco. The AI in this at least does slightly more then the average boomer shooter AI. They charge you, they take cover to shoot, they sometimes try to flank. Its not anything special but it gets the job done. I'm just confused as to how other games with worse AI then this gets praised but its a crime for this game?
@@Evilshtt353 I noticed that too. People were going around saying the enemies don't react to being shot. That's ALL Boomer Shooters, and the AI in Phantom Fury react to being shot anyway, so they didn't play the game and there lying.
They also said the guns were weak, and I beat the game recently, they were lying. The guns pack a punch and the sound is good too, the Assault Rifle is the best overall gun instead of the Shotgun. The Shotgun is weaker then normal though, the Shotgun is usually OP. But the Shotgun was weak in the OG Half-Life.
@@Evilshtt353 Well specifically Half-Life for example, that game has great AI, soldiers are highly reactive like trying to flush the player out with grenades and eyehound packs has one keep watch while the others sleep.
It was a lot more then just mindless rushing, that was never a endearing design choice.
@@SynthLizard8 The thing about the AI in Half Life 1 and 2 is that they were fairly basic as well. They did more and were better then the average AI at the time but they were not great. If we were to point out great AI then it would be from FEAR, and that is a unique and rare case. Games these days have yet to match that kind of quality.
In my playthrough of Phantom Fury, I could count on one hand how many times the AI just straight broke. They honestly do more then the average boomer shooter AI and more then what some people are saying. They also tend to throw grenades at you. Not all of them mindlessly charge you/seek you out.
One of the main criticisms about the game is the AI and it doesn't make sense because of what I already said. This game isn't the greatest, but it isn't bad. Its nowhere near as bad as some people are making it out to be. I'd say its average at best. It was honestly a fun experience.
The game definitely would have benefited with having more time to cook. It shouldn't have released when it did.

My lord Matty, play Black Mesa (remake of Half life 1) and Half Life 2 (plus episode 1 and 2) for the sake of the universe - They are literally commonly stated as being amongst the best games ever made - not just fps but any game, of all time, Portal is nothing compared to Half Life dude... Come on man - Credibility does matter dude... As for Phantom Fury its more like a mix of Half-Life 1 and Sin (If you have not played Sin thats another game you need to play) - Its nothing like Doom other than its an old school fps lol...
"Getting lost adds to the old school feel." Like... what? No... that's not old school. That's just bad design. That's like when people say classic Doom's level design is maze-like. No. Wolfenstein 3D's level design was maze-like. Also, you should not be getting lost in a linear Half-like... Again, that's a sign of bad design.
It is a sign of bad design, but when someone is doing a sponsored review they’re going to try to spin negatives into positives.
Why does this have pixlated textures? No honestly how does this relate to the games this tries to emulate?
Atleast give us an option to use filtering so it looks like all other games relased back in 2001-2006.

This game is inundated with bugs, giving the impression that the developers were careless in their approach. The abundance of glitches severely diminishes the overall enjoyment. It seems unlikely that anyone would purchase it unless they were incentivized by the development team or sponsored to provide positive feedback.
