the disgruntled groans when link goes “what is heathers” made me laugh so hard
I've heard of it, but i've never seen it. Must be a chick flick
I've never heard of it either. 🤷🏻♀️
@@alinaigrad L
So what is heathers? I've never heard of it either
I didn't laugh because I was too shocked by the statement!
“She frequented my dreams.”
*awkward silence*
Classic Rhett.
😂💯
can literally see him think "yep, shouldn't have said that."
priceless
imagine finding Heather in the comments
I love him so much!!!!!
The Breakfast Club..
For the love of God ..
They haven't seen it!?!?!
The disappointment is immeasurable....
The confidence Link had when he guessed Shrek. I was sure he really knew
Lol I knew right away I grew up watching shrek
Link is unwatchable now. Done.
Well he was right 🤷♀️
i’m 19 but with adhd subtitles can make it a lot easier for me to follow a storyline because i’m receiving the plot points both visually and auditorily
This, same!
Same for me. Auditory processing issues have reduced me to caption watching so I can make sense of what’s going on.
yes!! i’m twenty and also have ADD+some auditory processing stuff related to dyslexia but i literally never thought about how that might be impacting my media watching experience. i don’t use subtitles all the time but it just depends and now i’m realizing that’s probably part of it lol
Exactly this! Auditory processing stuff is super hard for me - can't do phone calls, and I can't watch anything with a plot unless it has subtitles
Ironically I can only understand videos if they're on 1.75x 🥲 everyone talks too slow otherwise.
"Y'all better catch up!" "I know." I love how we're concerned Rhett is with the lack of lesbian bars compared to gay bars.
I have to admit I figured 'gay bar' was just a general term for a bar for gay people (male or female). You learn something new every day 💁♀️
@@Laura_Norda it is but generally gay bars are filled with men. I'd guess a lesbian bar/club would be kind of a more exclusively for lesbians and queer women
@@friendlyneigborhoodbeanI’ve never been to a gay bar despite really wanting to go to one (just generally, it’s stressful leaving the house), but I kind of always figured that they were just generally meant for more than just gay men, but I also figured that that is probably the core demographic that goes there. So every now and then it’s popped into my head “wait… so lesbians tend to also go to gay bars or do they have bars specifically aimed towards them?”
@@TrickyTricky914 so gay bars are like a shared thing but gay bars tend to be more male dominated. There's not very many spots specifically for queer women (Correct me if I'm wrong. I've never been to a gay bar I'm underage and from a country that doesn't really have those places, this is just from what I've gathered)
@@Laura_Nordalol why would it be? Gay men and gay women aren't really looking for the same thing...
Need a podcast in which the GMM crew has Link watches cultural milestone movies that he missed and he reports after watching..make him watch these
Didn’t they do this on the Mythical Society?
A Mythical/Bechdel Cast cross over!
With cues to sync it with the movie so we can watch along
THIS !!!!!
Grease accompanied by Jordan!
I'm on Team Subtitle. One of my favorite subtitles of all time is from "The Expanse." In one scene, as Amos is searching for something, the subtitle pops up, *Investigatory Synth Music*, and that is so odd that I've never forgotten it.
That made me cackle when I saw it too!! I love the music descriptions. Especially for a super serious show that often needs comic relief 😂
@@UnicorNE0N "cries in Spanish"
Same here, especially as someone with hearing loss I often do rely on subtitles.

the collective groan of disappointment when link went “what is heathers?” LMAOO
What is a heathers?
@@RustyNips a film made in 1989 (I think) it's a dark teen comedy that gained a cult following so large a very popular musical was made based of it
I was so confident that “Are you watching closely” was Now You See Me 🙃
SAME lolll I was just SURE
Yes!! The way I said "Now You See Me" so confidently🥲
Dude same 😭
came to the comments to see if anyone else did lmao
OMG me too! i thought i was going crazy thinking it was that even though the director they were talking about didn't direct it
As a 39 year old I'd have to say subtitles are a regular thing and not an "old person" thing. We started using them while watching Outlander and Game of Thrones. It really helps with accents
I have really bad news but 39 year olds are considered old people
@@lightningfish8 They're really not.
@@lightningfish8 Okay well as somone who is 20 and has been doing captions always since 18 or so (maybe even before) Its not just an old person thing
Outlander for life!

What's weird is I did too. And I've never seen the film

I knew that one as soon as she said it! I even pictured the scene too!
I shouted pulp fiction before they did, and then when she said toy story I was like TOY STORY 🤣😅

Rhett looking more and more like a lion 🦁
*Even the shirt color compliments the whole lion concept.*
A very handsome Lion 🦁 😍🥵
He could literally play a lion in a movie and get a audition quickly with that kinda hair for a part. 😂
put em up put em uppp lol
When you said that, I looked at Rhett more closely and his shirt at first I Thought said "Lion" or "MythiLion" for a split second. The M which drags on the right side to almost make it look like an L and then with the T it looked for a second it turned into an L as well and if I ignore the H and C it's just Lion. Boy did I jump some hoops for that one. And I'm probably the only person who thought this, period. 🤣
Maybe it's cause I am bilingual, or cause I watch anime a lot, but subtitles have always been a part of life.
I feel it's usually Americans that tend to have an issue with them. It's the vibe I've always gotten anyway
I have an auditory processing disorder and have used subtitles since I could read but I do agree it is frustrating when the subtitles spoil something or are placed strangely. And I feel like american movies/shows struggle with it more. It is particularly why I watch so much anime because the have the subtitles down pat.
@@ceeceepg Yeah, I think cause English speakers are not used to it, they've also not understood how to make them right. I think the Spanish subtitles on things are pretty good from what I remember
I think there should be more subtitles. Specifically in movie theaters. The machines Deaf people use to watch movies in theaters are notoriously bad but movie theaters don't want to do subtitled showings because there's not "enough demand". Anyway I just want to go see movies with my Deaf and hoh friends without having to go at 2pm on a Wednesday.
I feel like it wouldnt be that hard for them to give at the very least pre-set devices that have the subtitles come at the right time. That way people can use them if they need without everyone else complaining
@@gmiill Thats what they have now. But there are two major issues. The first is that theaters don't properly maintain them so they tend to be faulty. The second is with the way binocular vision works in humans. Your eyes can't focus on something close to you and far away at the same time, so whenever you're reading the captions up close the movie itself is blurry and unfocused.
Lightyear had subtitles in my theater I don't know how or why but it was amazing
How about like an invisible ink type thing? The subtitles are always there but aren't visible to the naked eye. But if you wear a certain type of glasses (like 3d glasses) they appear.
I have to look up "Heathers" because I've never heard of it and the behind-camera reaction seemed strong.
Holding in my screams of “it’s twilight!!” as they don’t recognize some of the most iconic opening lines i’ve ever heard in my life
SAME
i literally just watched twilight last night
Imagine you're the Heather in the stories and you’ve decided to watch some good old GMM today.
No really what is Heathers
I relate a lot to Link because there are a lot of popular movies i haven't watched yet or not interested to watch it
Me too😂 I haven’t seen half of these movies😂
When Link said he was developing the skill to focus on the movie rather than the subtitles, I find myself trying so hard to avoid looking at the subtitles on this video when prior to this conversation it wasn't a problem LOL
I was just going to write this very same comment lmao it happened to me too in that part 😂
I would love the option of turning up the dialog on a movie!
The way I audibly gasped at the same time everyone groaned when Link asked what Heathers is LMAOOO
Rhett: "she frequented my dreams"
Rhett's eyebrows: *start doing yoga on his face *
As a hearing impaired person, thank you all for captions on your videos ❤
I appreciate how aghast everyone was when Link had never heard of Heathers. It mirrored my own distress.
Not nearly as bad as not having seen the Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles.
@@jorejaha Is that a thing? Taking it personally? Not everyone has the same taste. For example, I have never seen any of the three. It may be age thing as it wasn't really my generation, or not being American (not even South American) as all these seem like the USA setting is prominent in there. And after checking some posters and snippets of videos trying to jumpstart any memory that simply wasn't there to begin with, I don't plan on watching them.
@@pavook no but it's funny how offended people get when you say "omg you haven't seen that?" Look through the comments, people crying "must be a chick flick, must not have been good". Lmao no, you just haven't seen it, no need to get your panties in a knot. (Not you, but the people in the comments getting mad at people simply explaining the movie)
Just calm down please that was terrifying.
You are distressed because someone doesn’t share your taste in movies? Not to mention they are people who simply don’t watch a lot of them or they don’t care about movies that much. It’s not that deep 🤷♀️
Now that I think about it, GMM is one of the only things I watch WITHOUT subtitles
I think it’s bc there’s no underlying music playing. I watched something they were in on another channel and it was harder to understand bc there was music. I like music in movies obviously but it’s hard to understand what’s going on sometimes
it made my chest hurt that link hadn’t seen breakfast club, heathers or sixteen candles. absolute classics 😭
neither have i... what are you gonna do about it?
@@friendlyneigborhoodbean it's more that those movies are so engrossed in 80s culture. For as pop culture as Rhett and Link are that makes it surprising

The Prestige is great! Very underrated movie.
I always love doing a double feature of The Prestige and The Illusionist
I was watching this video with subtitles on and that subtitle-talk became very personal
Link telling rhett to clear his schedule made me laugh so hard. So funng
I work in film subtitling (for film festivals) but I also am from Eastern Europe. So I'm very biased but subtitles are very important for people. 😅
Yes! Thank you! It actually irritates me when people DO NOT have subtitles or captions. Accessibility, y'all.
I feel like I cant even follow a movie anymore without subtitles lol
Subtitles are ONLY needed and are only useful when it's a foreign language..other then that, it blatantly covers the screen and is a complete distraction that keeps people from actually watching the show or movie.
@@brucebonner3491 only needed and useful when it’s another language? what about people who are currently trying to learn another language and still need some guidance? deaf people? hard of hearing people? neurodivergent people? there are many other reasons why subtitles could be helpful and it’s really not that hard to multitask. perhaps you’re just a slow reader
I went to a partially deaf college and having captioned events changed my life. Subtitles are ALWAYS on and despite having perfect hearing I struggle at events without words on the screen.
My sister is deaf, so we watched EVERYTHING with subtitles. I have continued to watch everything this way, including RUclips videos (unless they're auto-generated). Which means that when I watch something in another language, I have an easier time with it. 🤷🏼♂️
I've been using subtitles for a decade and a half. I've learned to glance at the words, while not missing anything that happening in the movie/show. The human brain is wired catch key words, and put together the sentence without actually reading all of it
I work for Save the Children!! Thanks for donating guys ❤❤
I'm with Link, Heathers ? and I grew up in the 80's
I have always liked subtitles. I have auditory processing issues and adhd, and it helps me stay focused on the story and take in what is being said better.
Link holding his hands up for an entire minute had me giggling. Also Emily’s drawing of link was badass. But I like all of your drawings guys!!!!
I’ve never heard of the movie Heathers also never even seen it on the TV guide growing up lol
We just gon gloss over Link's core memory of Heather's pineapples 💀
Well I'm sure you would remember something like that if it happened to you 😭
In my 20s, not hard of hearing in the slightest, but ever since childhood (I'm talking elementary school years) any time there was an option to have on subtitles I would take it. It was seriously a revelation to my fetus self when we finally got a DVD player to replace our old VCR and I saw you could actually go in and turn them on in the settings. I just like having them there, I don't always need them, but something about having the words there visually has always been oddly comforting to me, like it just completes the experience of watching stuff.
I’m sure they just do it for tax proposes but I love when Rhett manually stops it on gifticality lol. Very kind and I’m sure the organization appreciates it.
Also love that when the subtitles are on, you can see whatever music they’re playing
I’ve also never heard of heathers
It's ok Link... I've never seen Heathers either.
1:40 I want to know so badly, with that smirk, what Link was thinking at that moment.
I bet it was "how are there enough gay dudes to make that many gay bars profitable, but not enough lesbians to make lesbian bars profitable, do they just have to go to the gay bars instead in a lesbian bar isn't local?"
Your show is one of the only ones I don't need subtitles to watch. It's refreshing, thank you, and let's say good job also!
Deaf/HoH aside, a lot of people with auditory processing issues, me included, need subtitles. It’s not always bad mixing!
Oh my god, this subtitle discussion is making me feel so validated😂
As someone with Auditory Processing Disorder, subtitles are incredibly important for watching any media.
Yes, I am the same. I love having them turned on for everything.
Same
Love going on a GMM binge
I got to the breakfast club the moment I heard it was Saturday. That movie was legit awesome. Made me cry at the end
The only reason I knew it was breakfast club is because my best friends birthday is on March 24th
I was yelling it man I knew it the second she began, didn’t even need the rest of the line
We need an option for subtitles for non deaf people, and better subtitles for deaf people as well. Subtitles without any extra and that don’t spoil.
It is truly upsetting that Link has skipped so many great movies but he’s seen Twilight
Bro is like actually depresses me to think about watching those films. lmfao
He has a teenage daughter, it's not that "upsetting".

@@m00nAlways0nMe You missed the point entirely again which is ironic considering your attempt at a read here.
I felt the pain when Link said "WhAtS HeAtHeRs?" 😭😂
My favorite parts of gmmore are the tangents that happen 😂
Link would love 16 candles since it shows Boobaloobaloobies! 🤣
Indeed. . . it was a Body Double, but still lovely Boobaloobaloobies!! 😊
Link needs to be made to watch all the classic movies he says he hasn’t seen, and Rhett should quiz him on details about them. That would be a great GMM series.
I always watch everything with subtitles including youtube and any video i watch honestly. Ive always hated subtitles but ive grown attached to them recently and ive been watching movies i grew up loving and realizing i either never fully understood what they where saying and/or understanding the plot of movies better! subtitles all the way!
i have adhd with auditory processing disorder and subtitles are a lifesaver! i have subtitles on for gmm right now lol. i wish i could have subtitles on in real life
We need more episodes like this
I love how this episode went from trying to guess movies from first lines to subtitles while watching movies or TV shows😂
I’ve never heard of Heathers either lol
I didn’t get into subtitles until I wanna say like 17 or maybe 18 so I’ve been using them anytime I watch tv, consistently, for two to three years now and it’s great. especially if you’re watching a movie or show that’s hard to follow along with what’s going on, those subtitles are amazing. they help get you through it.
7:25 I'm with Link on this, I've seen neither of them either and never heard of Heathers.
i am also in the "never seen it" club, link. and at this point its just funny to watch people react so i refuse to watch stuff. never seen star wars, that's the big one that people gasp at.
same with star wars.
the fact that link took the time to watch twilight but not like anything else… he’s just like me fr
I just started watching stuff with subtitles on. Lol 😂 I was getting sick of not hearing what people say. I'm happy I'm not alone 😊
Never even heard of Heathers either. Born in ‘87. Watched breakfast club in school and love me some John Hughes. Myself and a lot of my friends, from childhood and up to now, have been really into discussing movies and I can’t recall ever hearing about that movie, seeing the poster at blockbuster (that I just looked up on IMDB), or seeing it on any streaming service
I watch with subtitles on all the time...even this episode :D
I was so confident the "are you watching closely" was Now You See Me.
"She frequented my dreams." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Everyone wouldn't stop singing" Link, it's a musical 😭
Im 14 and I use subtitles all the time, I have been since I was 12! For me, it’s the fact that without them sometimes character speech goes right over my head and I can miss the whole scene-subtitles kind of just help me focus I guess
same. I'm 15 (almost 16) and I have to put on subtitles because I'm on like the brink between hard of hearing and hearing. Also sometimes I have to repay the first five minutes of a movie because I realize that I've missed all of what they were saying
Yessss, subtitles always!
I started using subtitles when I had my son and now I need them.
Maybe the most dad thing I’ve ever said!
I have subtitles on cause I be snacking hahaha
I use subtitles and I'm only 24 and it helps cause I have adhd, and I'm nerodivergent. My favorite subtitles is whenever Vecna from stranger things is on, when he doesn't talk, it says *wet squelching* 😆
Baby Driver is a perfect film!! Someone make Link watch it. It is essentially a heist film to music. Perfection.
I watched a video recently about why we watch subtitles and yes link is right, it does come down to the way they mix things. I love subtitles
Just watched this...regarding subtitles....watch the film without first, then watch with subtitles. So you start with a good portion of the film in your head. ❤
Don't worry Link. I've never heard of Heather's either. Haven't seen of those movies either
Heathers*
I’m legitimately watching this very show with the subtitles on. 😂
The prestige blew my mind when I saw it at 13. I was convinced it was the pinnacle of cinematic drama. Watched it again recently, it's still a great film but it made me laugh several times just due to how comedically over the top the rivalry gets
The mixing thing is why I’ve gone back to watching movies in German (my native language), because the dialog is so much louder than in the original. Which makes sense, because it’s obviously recorded in a booth instead of on the set.
I can’t believe I guessed toy story correctly before multiple choice… was so proud of myself for getting that lol
Same. We’re real fans
I use subtitles too. I makes it easier for me to comprehend what's going on. I live with brain fog. I am 40 but started in my 30s.
Baby Driver is an incredible movie!! The first driving scene is so awesome! The music is great! And the story is beautiful.
I agree with Link, I don't have time to be going back and watching old movies.
This is very fun to watch as a screenwriter because now this tells me what are good openers and what are...meh 😂
As a non english speaker, i always watch thing with subtitles since i was little. So already got used to it. It's usually hard to pick up what people's saying. Even for youtube videos i would mostly turn on the cc if available or use the auto generated one.
I find it funny that Link watched only the first 8 minutes of The Greatest Showman and then gave up because there was too much singing. That's literally what a musical is!
P.S. I also need subtitles. We used them when I was a kid for my brother with special needs to help him read and now both of us can't watch tv without the subtitles
Yayy I also watch with subtitles! Usually cause I have to watch things quietly and I don’t wanna miss what’s being said
Always loved subtitles lol even since really young. If you watch anime, you're used to them already so it makes no difference and it's not a problem, don't see how on earth it would be 😂
This is relatable lol. I've been watching anime half my life so its second nature at this point
