James Howard Tull was my daddy. On 12-18-1973 he was electrocuted with 169,000 volts for 18 seconds. He was burned over 95% of his body, fell from 25 ft and landed in a setting position crushing his vertebra. He died five times dealing with that but worked another 33 years for Texas Power and light. Had no idea how important his accident was going to be and how much I learned from him from when I was ran over on a traffic stop. This song always has reminded me of my father going out when the stormy weather comes through and the power was off to make it better for everyone. Daddy's been gone 9 years almost 10 I think it hurts more now than it did then. Thank you Daddy for teaching me to be a man

Played after every long term naval exercise over the ship's PA system, oftentimes at 1 am or later, it was always goosebumps and a sense of pride. We actually were "Wichita Linemen",and to this day the song brings me right back there to the South China Sea with my brothers.
Jimmy Webb was a genius. To think he could write a song like this for Glenn, then switch gears and write "Beautiful Balloon" for the 5th Dimension is mind boggling. And then "MacArthur Park", just to scratch the surface. That line you quoted really is magical.

I agree wholeheartedly. This song has always moved me. It came out when I was a teen digging blues and rock and roll, and this was totally outside my usual music genre, but it moved me. I’m glad the song had such broad appeal it received wide AM and FM radio play. The music and lyric are perfectly matched somehow. Dreamy, urgent and powerful all at once. I don’t know who Jimmy Webb is, but this one is bloody genius! I’m going to find out. Glen Campbell’s voice was a great fit for Witchita Lineman, for sure.

I was on a cross country trip with my cousins and we happened into a Kansas diner and this was playing on the jukebox and it was like a kick in the gut to me. I was like 14 then. The good old days.
I was driving back from Sante Fe New Mexico in the winter of 1979 with someone I loved. It was very early in the morning, probably an hour from daybreak and it was very cold outside. She was asleep and I was feeling sad. Probably from being drunk, mean, self-centered.... the rule of many of my wasted days of youth. I turned on the radio, AM no doubt, and this song came on within seconds. I'll never forget how it made me feel because I still can feel it today. She remained sleeping and didn't see me wipe away the tears thankfully I thought. But I was going to change..... I swear. Many, many years later maybe I have. But not in time for many things, many necessary regrets. You see for a moment I had understood I could be quite absent despite being so close. But the sun came up and such introspection was soon lost to the day. Feeling in SRQ and thank you Glen Campbell.

Then I made a kind of Morris Code on my high string…doot de-doot de-doot.

To most people, Glen Campbell was an excellent singer who usually strummed chords on an acoustic guitar while he sang. Campbell himself occasionally played into this image, as he would sometimes throw his guitar behind his back after the first verse of a song, grab the microphone with his hands, and only sing for the second verse (such was the case when he played the song "Southern Nights" in concert.)

Even factoring in all the accolades he's received over the years, I still consider Glen Campbell to be so very underrated. A prolific entertainer; an incomparable singer with perfect diction, timing, pitch, and with a natural smoothness to his voice. One of the best guitar players there ever has been. A writer, an actor, a comedian, a host. He acted with John Wayne in True Grit, as well as sang the theme song. His talent was tremendous, a gift from God. I will miss him so much--

Used to have his own Christmas special. I agree with everything you said. I can't remember anyone as an Entertainer, who had his gifts.

Americans think that because they loved the Beatles, the whole world did, which isn't true at all. I love old school country and I like rock n roll but I think the Stones and Led Zeppelin were better than the Beatles by a country mile. The Beatles could write but playing and singing weren't their forte at all, in fact I think I prefer almost every cover version of a Beatles song to the original.
When I was 5 or 6, my dad took my mother to see Glen in concert. Glen was singing from inside the ropes of a boxing arena, and our seats were pretty far away. She wanted to get some good photos of him, so she asked me to come with her while she took some photos up front near the boxing ring. I remember her taking my hand and walking down the aisle, and near the ring, she started to take some photos. Anyhow, as my mom was standing there, Glen stopped between songs and said "Go ahead honey, I'll hold still for you." That moment really made her happy, and forever since has let me to admire his kindness.
This song reminds me of my partner of 32years...he was a linesman....he would pick me up and take me for road trips fixing broken lines and replacing light bulbs on overhead street lamps...I'm still in love with him today as I was when I first met him💖

All the comments I have read here, echo my sentiments so clearly. This song, Glen's voice, and his guitar-playing skills just take me back to my childhood, growing up in the 1960's and 1970's. Glen was a considerable part of the soundtrack of those wonderful years. The deep emotion that Glen evokes so easily with his music is just astounding. Just timeless.

I saw Glenn in 1964...he was in the backing band for Ray Peterson (Corrina Corrina, Tell Laura I love Her). I never heard of Glenn but Peterson introduced him and called him, “Mr. Twelve String.” Glenn played an instrumental and returned to the back line.

Probably one of the most subtle love songs ever written. I love the song as did my late dad, who passed last year he caught the virus. He loved Glens music and was always whistling. He introduced me to this song, to be honest if they play this at my funeral I will be a happy soul. I started guitar lessons when I was 12, a lot of the inspiration came from hearing Glen's records. I miss both of those good men - Glen and my dad Maurice.
Being from Wichita, Kansas this song has special meaning for me. I love Glen Campbell and always will. When they filmed part of True Grit in Ridgeway Colorado… Glen Campbell and Kim Darby signed autographs at the local City Market in Montrose…. John Wayne’s booth remained empty as he thought he was above signing autographs …. Never will forget Mr Campbell’s kindness and true character for the fans . He signed an album for me the album was a duet with him and Bobbi Gentry …, I was 9 and was smiling for weeks later .

This song transcends me. As a child, I recall looking from the backseat of the family sedan as we whizzed through the desert highway. Watching the telephone wire cables undulate up and down as we drove by and it would keep repeating that same consistent motion, on and on. And I never tired of it. It relaxed me then and relaxes me now. This song epitomizes that feeling of solitude, the unknown and the longing for being back with your love.

I was only 10 years old when I heard about him from the TV. He was appearing on the Johnny Cash show as well as his own show and he haw. And certain Christmas specials. Used to have his own Christmas special. I agree with everything you said. I can't remember anyone as an Entertainer, who had his gifts.
Glen's musical gifts were from God. He put them to good use. Please don't anyone get me wrong, he worked very hard at it but his ability and potential came from God.

I love old school country and I like rock n roll but I think the Stones and Led Zeppelin were better than the Beatles by a country mile. The Beatles could write but playing and singing weren't their forte at all, in fact I think I prefer almost every cover version of a Beatles song to the original.

When I was 5 or 6, my dad took my mother to see Glen in concert. Glen was singing from inside the ropes of a boxing arena, and our seats were pretty far away. She wanted to get some good photos of him, so she asked me to come with her while she took some photos up front near the boxing ring. I remember her taking my hand and walking down the aisle, and near the ring, she started to take some photos. Anyhow, as my mom was standing there, Glen stopped between songs and said "Go ahead honey, I'll hold still for you." That moment really made her happy, and forever since has let me to admire his kindness.

I saw Glenn in 1964...he was in the backing band for Ray Peterson (Corrina Corrina, Tell Laura I love Her). I never heard of Glenn but Peterson introduced him and called him, “Mr. Twelve String.” Glenn played an instrumental and returned to the back line.
His Sioux Falls concert is available on DVD and still stands the test of time.

Probably one of the most subtle love songs ever written. I love the song as did my late dad, who passed last year he caught the virus. He loved Glens music and was always whistling. He introduced me to this song, to be honest if they play this at my funeral I will be a happy soul. I started guitar lessons when I was 12, a lot of the inspiration came from hearing Glen's records. I miss both of those good men - Glen and my dad Maurice.

Songwriter Jimmy Webb had been driving through a flat and remote area of Oklahoma, his native state, absorbing the almost surreal nature of its isolation and seemingly endless horizons. He passed by a utility worker perched high on a telephone pole. The curious image of the anonymous, lone figure toiling in the heat in the middle of nowhere stuck in Webb’s mind. What might be the circumstances of this solitary man’s life? What were his thoughts?
Turning to his piano after a phone call with Glen Campbell, Webb spent the next couple of hours sketching out a song about the mysterious individual he had encountered on that lonely stretch of highway, then asked Campbell to swing by the house that evening to take a listen.
As Webb began playing and singing the basics of his new tune, Campbell flipped. He knew it was a hit. A story of desolation and longing, it spoke to the human condition, the universal need for love. The imagery about the singing in the wires and searching in the sun for overloads was out of this world.
“What’s it called?” Campbell asked.
“Wichita Lineman,’” Webb said.

John Wayne’s booth remained empty as he thought he was above signing autographs …. Never will forget Mr Campbell’s kindness and true character for the fans . He signed an album for me the album was a duet with him and Bobbi Gentry …, I was 9 and was smiling for weeks later .

This song transcends me. As a child, I recall looking from the backseat of the family sedan as we whizzed through the desert highway. Watching the telephone wire cables undulate up and down as we drove by and it would keep repeating that same consistent motion, on and on. And I never tired of it. It relaxed me then and relaxes me now. This song epitomizes that feeling of solitude, the unknown and the longing for being back with your love.
