At 12:47, it is actually Digital Notch Filter (DNF). Excellent thing when someone tuning on the frequency, but slightly distort voice. So, engage when someone tuning, disable when stop. Great video as always.
Thank you Michael!...Great DEMO! I have many of my Ham friends trying to convince me to purchase the ICOM 7300, but time and time again, listening to RUclips demo's, the Yaesu comes out TOPS in every session!! If I had a cultured British accent like yours, I would never shut up!! LOL!! God Bless!!, 73's Ron, K6PAM
Ok I'm simply blown away. This is Top Gear editing and commentary for amateur radio. It's what I've always wanted to do: the camera angles, the music track, the glorious honey-tounged voice a'la Jeremy Clarkson. You've done it mate. Now proceed henceforth with this style as lesser mortals sit back and watch
Thanks, mate! This surely is one piece o' kit. Now you've gone and made me want one. Truth be told, I've been on the fence for a while; now I feel myself listing to one side. Cheers! ;-)
Very good demo. I read one review where the ham really ran down the DNF he said it sounded terrible. I listened closely to when you turned you DNF on and it did a great job. I was impressed. I agree with you about the function knob stepping through the frequencies in steps. I now have the FT-710 Field and I will probably have the 10 before the end of the month. Thanks for the great demo. Barry, KU3X
This is the kind of video I was looking for!!! Thank you. Just using the rig, not changing the screen, tuning around, changing settings. AWESOME. Some of those settings filters are same or similar on my 991a. Anyway, I appreciate the 'in-use' type video. Getting ready for Minnesota QSO party, my first one. 73 de NØGFT - Minnesota
BRAVO Mike, excellent done!!! Clean basic details of this great strict HF radio, exactly what I want to know!!! p.s. You don't need "Top Gear" intro...you HAVE already unique one!!!👍👌
You can set 1KHz steps when using the outer dial. In "Operation Setting" set Tuning - CH STEP to 1KHZ. Then if you press the STEP button you have 1KHz steps when using outer dial.
the best bits are: 1: External monitor, I use a 5" monitor under the PC screens so I can see whats going on. Radio is to my left and behind me. 2: Remote keypad, I have my call-sign set up in two different phonetics. I just play on the PC and press the buttons, if they come back i grab the mic. Made my own. 3: DNR , works great. 4: shift / width for cutting down noise. 5: waterfall display, great for seeing the difference between noise and a signal. Think thats about enough for now. How do you find there ext speaker, looks nice but does it sound good?
NB was implemented for suppression of the plugs firing in a car, nowadays it's not used much or has little effect because cars nowadays are filtered better with much better noise suppression..
I use my ftdx10 as a mobile radio (since i can't set up a shack at home) and the NB is very useful for me. Youd be surprised how much noise electric vehicles cause when driving past.
I use my Ft10 has a mobile and the NB is extremely effective. Like you I seldom use it on my 101 mp unless my neighbour is mowing his lawn with his old mower
Though the acronym IPO represents Intercept Point Optimization, we prefer to think of the option as: Internal Preamp Off - which seems to help with quick realization that when selecting the button ON its actually shutting OFF the preamp 🙄
Excellent non-review Mike. Thank you, especially for demonstrating the DNR. I have an FT-891 and wondered if the DNR on the FTDX10 is just as good. It is! This is the only thing I like better than my Kenwood! Cheers!
Great look at the radio. I'm looking to buy one and having owned and used it for a while i would appreciate your opinion on the rig. I'm torn between the DX 10 and the IC7300.
Just a comment. The DNR settings, 1, 2, etc. are not levels like RF gain or audio gain is. Each one is a discrete, and different, noise reduction algorithm, i.e. mathematical formula. I find 5 to be a good general algorithm for the noise I commonly encounter. 3 is also useful. Others are tried on occasion for different types of noise patterns. Experimental trial is your friend.
I'm not a fan of the current generation of Yaesu HF rigs. However, I must say they have certainly done an excellent job with the DNR Digital Noise Reduction. It's quite outstanding.
Press and hold the step/mch button at 9 o'clock by the vfo it will light up orange when activated . and the outer vfo ring will then step at 1 k steps . Hope this helps mike seen as yiu did this video a while ago you may have already figured it out
Mike, the Beat Cancelling filter was specifically developed, at my request, to deal with music being played on the 38. Though that was common knowledge,it must be in the manual somewhere?
On my old Ft890 and FT990 when you turn the IPO on it bypasses the RF amplifier stage so the receiver is in normal mode and to engage the RF amp the IPO must be turned off..
Display averaging is a way of reducing the spikes or sudden high or low readings on the waterfall or 3D screen, giving you a smooth more fluid display.
Hi Mike, excellent video, I do have a really random question mind... could you possibly tell me the manufacturer or supplier of the PL259 that you see on the rear view shots during the opening... as I notced it has a nice stepped piece at the rear where you have placed the heatshrink.... random yes...
