You two are my absolute favourite thing on RUclips ❤ the High Line is beautiful especially with Piet OAdolfo’s planting scheme going on. Heatherwick is very sinister indeed, the dark side of architecture 😳

I went to little island a few weeks back. Its a serine environment that is designed to walk you through two different tranquil paths, that deposit you in a shared green space. Id love to see it all lit up at night though.

Definitely had written the vessel off however, the exterior reflections and movement would be magical. I'm seriously surprised about the quality of the details around the Highline. The change in interactions from water drainage systems, and play of transitions seems unreal.
The High Line is an amazing urban intervention, full of beautiful details. It was great to have your insights about this part of NYC.
Just because I´m a Piano freak, I´d love to hear you talking about the Whitney. Maybe next time, when you visit Little Island (which certainly looks like an interesting proposal for the waterfront)

Welcome to our city guys! It looks like this was shot last summer? We love The Highline - absolutely one of the places that we make sure friends who are visiting experience before they leave. FYI - Vessel was always free - a reservation for timed entry was just required.

Thanks. Yes it was filmed in July last year. We are back for pretty much 1 day in May though.

Currently watching the Heatherwick and High Line video, and I just wish that the CBDs in PH could do the same----not just vegetated and well designed overpasses, but also ones that are properly built to counter the heat and extreme rainfall. Such a timely video.

I went to NY last Arpil, my first ever visit, to see me son. We a=wlaked a lot and one aftwernoon we took the high line. What an amazing urban space to walk with no vehicles, lots of greenery, but access to buildings along the way.
Love you guys, thanks for making my day with your humour, education and honesty.
NY will always be a love/hate place for me ( especially the disparity in wealth) but I
absolutely adore roaming the streets, you never know what architectural treasure
you might find away from the usual suspects.

The Vessel and Highline are being relocated onto Little Island, and the city is going to charge admission to visit in the near future.
My first reaction was that Mr. Hüi needed sunscreen. Then I realized that he had had a beer for lunch. 🥵

Been to NYC 3 times but never knew about the urban spaces you showed here. It almost looks like another city, and pointedly, resembling what Singapore has done. Suicide in the 'Vessel' could be a phenomenon indicating human displacement.

I think New York did a great move in reviving their Urban space and working with Heatherwick, despite the unforeseen drawback with the vessel (which i believe can find a solution). Creative minds like him together with BIG and Saha can create very interesting and unique spaces...I love SOM by the way designing corporate office structures. BTW James Corner Field Operations and Diller Scofidio + Renfro did the landscape design? Love it!

The London Bus is a nightmare during summer, so hot it makes you car sick; and all the windows are fully fogged up during winter. They had to redesign and change the back door because it kept injuring passengers.
The bridge in Paddington breaks all the time.
He had a horrible, misguided attempt on sustainability with a tree sculpture for the Queen's Jubilee.
The new google HQ in Kings Cross is a concrete mastodon with a lot of fake, timber boarded concrete columns and solar shades that is just out of place and scale.
He helped burn £43 million of public money with a massively failed bridge project.
The historic Olympia is currently turned into a circus mall.
And that's just in London...
He did do an ok job with the Coal Drops, and there's some cool Angel's Wings sculpture used as vents for the Underground.

Have an immense hatred for The Vessel, because of Hudson Yards developments like it taking funds from actual communities in Harlem and Upper Manhattan that needed it. There is something very eerie about this capitalist beacon of despair, a staircase to nowhere that lures people to jump from it, under all these privatized towers and buildings that only the rich few actually enter.
The Shed is pretty great though.

Probably because of the island's type of structure (and its being on the water, too), it was not possible to introduce an earthing system that would protect it from lightning strikes.
Decoration is OK. 😁 I Loved it. 🙌 With all due respect to the great architects of the 20th century who revolutionised design, modernist buildings can be so boring! To decorate a space with a sense of proportion, tact, balance, and craftsmanship is a skill that was lost. And now it seems that it is shameful to try to attempt to decorate facades or interiors.

The Vessel was paid for by a private company (a residential real estate developer) so complaining that the money could have been spent on housing is kind of dumb.
Why should there be "public housing"? Why not allow actual people and groups to create what people want? Busy body regulators are interfering with building and by usng rent controls. THEN, they say THEY will build public housing that THEY will control and build a dedicated voting base off of that.
Because some people need help. Big economies have an obligation to give something back to the people that work in its service.
