Short messed up when he asked what it’s like to be the daughter of famous people. Props to Ben for rolling with it. I suppose he could have blocked, but the energy was going in a certain direction, and it could have derailed the bit.
This was nothing short of a masterpiece by Short. Ben played it beautifully, as well, even though he was on the verge of cracking up a few times. I’m sure they both busted up after it was over.
He nearly broke early on then just fell apart several times. It was glorious. I remember seeing these when the show was in its first run. People didn't seem to get it. Not sure why... it's incredible. He's so fast.
Just relentlessly funny ... You're father is on that series, "Queer as Folk" ... no, you're mistaken. It's "King of Queens" - "Oh, is that what they're calling it now" OMFG.
I love the fact that you can hear the crew laughing and clapping in the background. It must have been such an ordeal trying to keep it together when filming this.
'I often carry tweezers'...blink and you miss it, yet amazing how an off the cuff line can be brilliantly funny on its own. And love how he whacks the guests with the rolled up papers
@joe smath because he kind of tried to be serious (at least seemingly) at first, then gave into the brilliant silliness that is Martin short. Whereas Seinfeld, who’s too arrogant to be the butt of the joke, just insulted him & tried to retain control of the interview which I think is actually less funny
Man, Martin Short is just so relentlessly hilarious. I love watching his "guests" try to hold it together. You know you've made it in show biz when you have the honor of being in front of Jiminy for an interview.
Obviously you don't have a clue to have asked that. And that's just fine. People who understand comedy, especially something as furiously fast and unscripted like that, well it needs no explanation but to be marveled.
Martin Short keeps the jokes and subtle digs coming so quick and relentlessly, even with his sharp comic peers, that it's all they can do just to keep up. They can only *try* to poke back, or just give up and play straight man like Jack Black did. I can only imagine the craziness that could've been if he had been able to get Robin Williams in one of these... Robin would've been about the only guy that would be as quick on the draw.
"She thought she was a lesbian, and then she thought she was a normal person." LOL!!!!!!!!! Martin Short has made me laugh myself silly for years, but this character is the funniest thing I've ever seen him do.
I feel like Martin short has this intrinsic ability to understand how successful a certain person is, and then he adjusts his level of criticism to that person. So he really goes at Ben Stiller here because he really respects his work and knows he’s good. So he brings up failing in relation to his parents as a completely ironic point, admitting that he has far surpassed his parents
Huh? I don’t see this bit at as anything to do with a level of criticism? It’s comedic set up. “Surpassed his parents” …. Come on now. He does what he does and his parents did what they did. It’s not a big competition for our likes. Love Martin Short. Thanks for posting.
Martin Short is referring to his own Ed Grimley character. Like Ben Stiller, Short was on SNL for only a few weeks, so his comments about bombing and failing could be aimed at himself. :)
EVERY LINE he utters is pure ingenious GOLD. This is one of the very greatest Glick interviews, a large part due to Stiller's willingness to let Martin do his thing, unlike the awful Seinfeld interview.
No fair, Stiller has his own take on this and trying to play it straight with Jiminy stuck in your face is clever. This is funny stuff, I love 'em all. Martin Short is awesome.
"She thought she was a lesbian, and then she thought she was a normal person, and then before you know it she's talking to aliens..." If RUclips had any sense, they'd knock the high cost/low yield drama series on the head and fork out for 12 × 30 mins Jiminy episodes.
"You were on SNL! Ohh I loved you! I LOVED YOUR CHARACTER! 'That's the ticket!' That was wonderful!!! You were WONDERFUL! ON! THAT! SHOW!" "That was Jon Lovitz"
Short is wildly funny, of course, in all of the "Out and About" interviews from "Primetime Glick," but a certain amount of credit should also go to whoever edited them for maximum comedic impact - not a second is wasted. I also love how game Stiller is in this particular interview as "the straight man."
Ben is such a pro. The way he threw the question back at Martin, and then kept speaking to give martin enough time to come up with a response. PRO
@joe smath are you scared of ben stiller
I was struggling to put my finger on why it worked so well. You nailed it. Ben is quite the giver.
@@albothebigmate 🤣
Oh and here I was thinking it was scripted.
Yep. Utter pros. Smart acting. Great improv. You make a great point.
Ben is so handsome here. I absolutely love his smile . ❤️
RIP Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. Both terrific comedians.
RIP Anne Heche too
@antonio78230 yes, Ben's real mother
RIP Jimminy's seat cushion.
RIP, Susan Taulli.

@@coma13794 Absolutely. Some of the best comedy gold ever.
Always love hearing the crew laughing in the background
"I'll never squash an ant"
"I'll behead it"
Martin Short is as funny as they come.
My favorite moment. At first it sounds kind, like he can't even kill an ant. Then the second part comes out...
@@kirbygene And of course capping it with the "I often carry tweezers" line that sounds vaguely menacing.
this had me in literal tears - lol!
"Slick the hair back and get a laugh"
Gold
I must say
Hilarious how Martin Short can break-up these stars. He’s a comic genius.
1:19. I’m convinced this is an authentic dig at “movie star” Stiller from Short. Glick is just an alter-ego that lets him get away with it.
I like the little things, like him sniffing his fingers after they shake hands.
...and his compliments like "That surprises me, because you used to be funny".
kudos to Stiller for playing it straight for awhile.
Ben Stiller is the perfect foil for Jiminy. Ben is a class act and full of kindness.
The best thing EVER on television. Martin Short as Jiminy Glick.
Is that his real fat, and why would any guest subject him-or-herself to this show anyway?
Just relentlessly funny ... You're father is on that series, "Queer as Folk" ... no, you're mistaken. It's "King of Queens" - "Oh, is that what they're calling it now" OMFG.
you are right, hilarious
LOL
the disrespect is nonstop - it’s amazing stuff - the spielberg interview has me in stitches
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hilarious
"michael jackson had a dark side and he dealt with it." LOL
Scottie guru omg I laughed hard at that one. Caught me so off guard
Michael was alive at the time of this interview!
Im dying rn
@@kevdean9967 Right?? Interesting use of the past tense there.
Si si. Very funny
"Why do I decapitate ants?" LOL
The answer to that would requires years of analysis. 😀
“Michael Jackson had a dark side and he dealt with it”

LMAO
Evidence Martin Short is a legend.
I love the fact that you can hear the crew laughing and clapping in the background. It must have been such an ordeal trying to keep it together when filming this.
2:11 the best part! 🤣
I love how he goes right to the end....."you can let go now,
touching is too needy"
wonderful chemistry
Yes, they’re both maestros of their craft. Like they’re playing a duet.
"Touching is...too needy." 😄 Martin Short is so quick, even to the end.
This show needs to be back on the air.. love it.
I like how, amidst the Anne Heche thing at 2:41, he also slips in that Ben Stiller is a "daughter" rather than a son, hahaha.
I wonder if Ben let it slide, or noticed
I caught that too, wondering a bit, but I caught it!!!!!!!! Lol
Oh that's hilarious. I've seen this a billion times too.
Glick confessing to beheading ants instead of squashing is hardest I've every laughed at him hah
Glick, a dark troubled man
Your recap of him saying that has me cracking up again
"Why do I do that?" Yup, had me rolling.
I prefer the mel brooks interview where he asks what's his beef with the nazis lol.
When he says "I'll never squash an ant" it makes him sound kind-hearted for about four seconds. Then he says the other thing.
'I often carry tweezers'...blink and you miss it, yet amazing how an off the cuff line can be brilliantly funny on its own. And love how he whacks the guests with the rolled up papers
Ben Stiller played this just right.
@joe smath Calm down, Marty lol
@joe smath because he kind of tried to be serious (at least seemingly) at first, then gave into the brilliant silliness that is Martin short. Whereas Seinfeld, who’s too arrogant to be the butt of the joke, just insulted him & tried to retain control of the interview which I think is actually less funny
Man, Martin Short is just so relentlessly hilarious. I love watching his "guests" try to hold it together. You know you've made it in show biz when you have the honor of being in front of Jiminy for an interview.
How is this funny.......?
Obviously you don't have a clue to have asked that. And that's just fine. People who understand comedy, especially something as furiously fast and unscripted like that, well it needs no explanation but to be marveled.

The origin of Between Two Ferns... Martin and Zach bring their own magic to the format. So perfect.
Still one of my favourite things on the internet.
I loved this guy on Queer As Folk!!
"She thought she was a lesbian, and then she thought she was a normal person." LOL!!!!!!!!! Martin Short has made me laugh myself silly for years, but this character is the funniest thing I've ever seen him do.
got to admit.....that's Gold
Yep. Normal person. You could never make a joke like that now, even in utter jest, without some woke person going nuts.
"she said it looked like a shih tzu"
"Michael Jackson had a dark side and he dealt with it"
How far through your glick binge did you stumble across this gem? Me, about 4 episodes in

About 20. Help me.

@2:14 you can see how Ben truly laughs !!! Jiminy was Classic !! I am now 56 and these guys are my day !!

When Glick forgets their names…gets me every time.
I love it when the crew laughs.
I'd forgotten about the crew laughing, until I started watching these reruns. It is cute, I really like it.
5:52 "...so far I'm with ya it's when you kept talking after that my whole life flashed..." lol
Ben really loved his parents. Good showbiz family.
he said "its in my book however, you can pick it up on tape" lmao
ZSchochprod right after he said "I don't disclose personal details" lmfao
Is this the best Jiminy Glick interview? I'm inclined to believe so. Stiller played it perfectly.
My fave is still Alec Baldwin. Epic.
Ice Cube is up there
Mel Brooks maybe?
"What have you got against the Nazis?"
Jerry Seinfeld
I put all my money on Julia Louis-Dreyfus. That one is a riot.
"Slick the hair back and get a laugh."
Jilm M PUG
Too tricky for you?
Martin Short is referring to his own Ed Grimley character. Like Ben Stiller, Short was on SNL for only a few weeks, so his comments about bombing and failing could be aimed at himself. :)
Martin Short a beyond brilliant performer.
2:30 Impossible to make it through this without laughing lol. Ben is usually pretty good at keeping his composure, so this was a real delight 🙂
This character is so absurdly funny, that you can hear the camera crew laughing just out of shot.
thanks so much for uploading all these videos!
Stiller wins. He treats this as a real interview. Maybe the only one who used this tactic.
He treats it perfectly and lets the scenario work.
It's a competition?
@@ceapyThe bit works when there’s chemistry between them. But you knew that already.
@@ceapy Yes, always. Didn't you know?
One of his best Jimmy interviews
"She was chanting for a while. That's how I found her". That line is gold.
Is Short the greatest ever comedy improvisor? I watch these Glick interviews in total awe.
Well said. Same here. Total awe.
I love you Ben😄
"Michael Jackson had a dark side and he dealt with it." Don't know why this took about the thousandth re-watch to get this magical line.
It's amazing how much is in such brilliant work. It often takes many viewings to catch everything.
The whole part about Jiminy decapitating ants is hilarious. His facial expressions 'n voice at that part are too much.
“Michael Jackson had a dark side and he dealt with it!”
💀🤣
I never heard of this character until recently and quickly become a groupie :) love the back n forth between these two
Martin Short belongs in that long list of Canadian comedians that is practically universally adored worldwide
Ben Stiller looking handsome here.
That's a backhanded compliment.
I love this interview. Once you get to the ants you realize what you're dealing with.
She thought she was a lesbian and before you know it, she's talking to Aliens 😂😂😂

Just genius
Martin Short is an INTERNATIONAL TREASURE!
I will pray for America. 🇺🇸
Please pray for me. 🙏🏻
God Bless you. ✝️
Oh, the Anne Heche dig, I both love it but now we really know what trauma and PTSD is. RIP.
watched em all 3x now. can#t get enough. i'd pay good money to see a few more episodes.. please, Martin?
This world needs more Glick.
2024. Bring Jiminy back.
It happened!!
Lmao. Now I'm picturing Jerry Stiller on "Queer as Folk".
This is the best of Glick, IMO
Definitely one of his funnier interviews!
It’s hilarious. But I think the one of Ice Cube was masterful. Ditto Mel Brooks.
Stiller slayed me on the Ricky Gervais series Extras and on the bonus interview on the Starsky and Hutch DVD.
Want him back. Loved this show.
Michael Jackson had a dark side and he delt with it...💀💀💀💀
Works on several levels
Martin Short is able to make his interviewees laugh, its nice.
ben played such a perfect straight man, which always makes the jiminy glick sketches work best
He's on the series "Queer as Folk"😅
No fair, Stiller has his own take on this and trying to play it straight with Jiminy stuck in your face is clever. This is funny stuff, I love 'em all. Martin Short is awesome.
Stiller’s a pro. So focussed; quick. Good natured.
Jiminy Glick on Between two Ferns would be priceless!
Zach would finally break up. But Zach would get short a few times.
Glick would rule that encounter.
This is between the two ferns
amazing. absolutely amazing.
This is already the 2nd interview, I've watched today! Martin Short is a comic genius!
"She thought she was a lesbian, and then she thought she was a normal person, and then before you know it she's talking to aliens..."

Jiminy Glick should have been interviewed on Space Ghost Coast to Coast.
3:08 This part is so funny, the comedic duel, both of them trying not to laugh
"I'll squash an ant, i'll cut his head off and DECAPITATE IT!"
Steve Brule and Jiminy Glick are the two funniest comedxy characters ever created.
"Oh that's what they're calling it now" 😂😂😂
Great interaction. I couldn’t stop laughing.
These episodes should be back on comedy central. Hes one of the funniest comedians of all time
the ant beheading exchange, and when he says liz smith thought his little weiner looked like a shitzu. golden comedic brilliance.
2024 and I’m still watching him
His tongue lashing rant against Ben that ends "you shouldnt hang around "in this interview us clearly his #1 all time!!!!
I love how Ben stiller kinda figures out it was Martin at the end there
"You were on SNL! Ohh I loved you! I LOVED YOUR CHARACTER! 'That's the ticket!' That was wonderful!!! You were WONDERFUL! ON! THAT! SHOW!"
"That was Jon Lovitz"
I have a new appreciation for Ben Stiller now.

I dunno why, but Ben saying "microsurgery" about the ant decapitation cracked me up in particular.
