Sincere props to Derrick for accepting the acting straight man role and being that guy puttin the real work with Chris in taking these projects to their shining moment
Growing up my friend had a Chrysler Wagon that he bought for $100. 383 engine. OMG the fun we had with that turd. And when we were done the wrecking yard gave him $75 for it!
Dude! I was drinking beer my beer at the same time that Chris was adding fluid to the Aspirin. He was making those blub, blub, blub, sounds! That was epic! I "highly" recommended it!
I love beater cars! I used to have an F body; mine was a 4 door Volare with a 318. It was definitely a beater. I bought it from the company I worked for after it worked its way down from the sales department, to maintenance, to security, and finally to the owner's son who used it like a farm truck. He would basically bring a can of gas and jumper cables when he needed to use it, then leave it out in the field wherever it ran out of the gallon of gas he had put in it. After he finally gave up on it, I bought it cheap and made it my daily driver for a couple of years! I could probably talk for an hour about all the cheap hacks and tricks I did to keep it going on almost no money.
I have a cousin, that's about 20 years older than me, who had a red 1977 Volare, 318 car, back in the early 90's. I was only 9 or 10 years old at the time, but I remember it well. He had it decked out with ALL the Sparkomatic stereo equipment in it. The 6"x9"s, the tape player with an EQ, the amplifier with an EQ, and even the EQ with an EQ. Everything had an EQ back then! 😂 I had forgotten all about that car, until you posted this video. Its cool how when an old song comes on the radio, that you havent heard in forever, and you still know all the lyrics to it. Also, the song instantly brings back all the memories you have, from the exact time period, that you first heard it. Evidently, a vehicle will do the same thing. Thanks for bringin back some great memories, from the "Good Ol' Day's", Christopher!
I saw ur truck n found it pretty cool that our trucks are almost twinsies.. mine is 74 Adventurer SE reg cab long bed 2wd drk green with light green top n bottom black steel wheels n dog dishes😁 bought mine in 93 for $800 with 80k miles on route 66 here in Devils Elbow Missouri.. has about 452,000 miles now.. still daily driver n still working like a mule.. love ya keep on keeping on
I love the things you work on and the way you work on them, my wife sent one of your videos to me from when you race your dirt modified, I to race dirt modifieds , I've never subscribe to anything on these channels, but I will be subscribing to yours bud. It's all about doing the things we love to do, and the keeping it simple, is everything, (K.I.S.S.),KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID,) My varsity basketball couch taught us about keeping things simple and most of the time people over think things but finally somebody else keeps it simple, love this show you do, JUNKERUP, thanks for keeping it real buddy, I MEAN THAT. Chris Birdsong, keep it up for all of us that honestly keep it real, cheap, and simple, so thank you.
Now you just need to find the local Gambler 500 event and have a great weekend. I built a Lexus IS300 beater into an off road rally type car and it's the most fun I've had for the least $$$.
On all F & J bodies, and M-bodies below '88...the engine cradle, which everything is bolted to, was made "Outside the US." Under severe duty and/or salt exposure, the shock mounts crack & collapses, rendering the front end unable to be aligned. It was so well known that Chrysler issued a TSB and a patch kit- don't fix the issue of poor metallurgy, handle it like GM and just fix it right before it's cancelled. Also, get rid of the iso-clamp rubber donuts the cradle sits on as well as wraps the shock mounts on the rear leafs. BTW, I own an '88 M-body cop car presently
LoL. Nice DIY rally car. Fab in a roll cage, some off-road lights, and maybe a custom front grill guard, and you'd have a bug-out type beater rally car.
This looks like you had a lot of fun. Glad I could contribute. Love seeing you thrash on old junk. If you ever come to Alaska, please come help me fix my Lemans.
Hey man let Derick drive some he works quite a bit i never see him have any fun, he is the most parient seeming person ive seen on you tube and seems like a good dude, SO LET HIM HAVE SOME FUN TOO, SEEMS LIKE HE WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR YOU CHRIS,
When I saw the new rear brake shoes, I thought of a possible helpful tip to share with everybody that I learned too late in life. When replacing rear brake shoes, always un-adjust the parking bake cable, and make sure it is slack, BEFORE adjusting the shoes to the drum then re-adjust parking brake cable LAST... The cables going to rear axle are usually stuck and you have to pry back the lever that attaches the cable to the shoe, back into the shoe. The last guy to "throw on a set of shoes" probably skipped this step and cable adjustment was probably close to maxxed out when he adjusted shoes... Usually when I find this issue on old vehicles I work on, I'll get more turns on the shoe adjusters than I could get before when I re-adjust everything. This always results in less pedal travel, much firmer pedal feel, more shoe surface area being used, less drag when brakes are released, and more stopping power... Anyway, great videos!!!
Precision engine machine work at the absolute finest!!We can also paint your car for $99.99, no ups no downs , no extras..Best vijeo!! EVER🤣🤣 We also specialize in aviation and marine engine electrical and machine work✈⚓
The mid-late 70's "smog cars" have become THE HOT build out here in the Southwest. not for Off-Road use but as Daily Driver/weekend fun cars to go ro cruise-ins, cars and coffees and local car shows, Just about every car project since the Covid "outbreak" has been some sort of 70's car because everyone was looking for something to just tinker around with and the Smog cars are cheap, more often than not are in decent shape and still running or not far from it and there's a ton of parts out both in used parts and parts stores and the aftermarket is starting to come around to them.
Another marathon video, loved it. You're a great entertainer Mr.Birdsong, you need to drag Derek out of his shell, he's so quiet, nice guy, just need to yap more :) Thanks for an epic journey once again.
I had a old Grand Fury cop car just like that diplomat but mine was blue with the HD suspension it came with a 318 that I took out and sold and but in a 360 it had the cop slotted rims too it was a fun car and it was a sleeper I use to kill 5 liter mustangs and late 70's early 80's Camaros with. The car was so much fun and comfortable too.
If you could get in with some of the local DEMOLITION PROJECTS and CREWS, its possible to get enough material to roof your entir property from corner to corner, EVERYTHING PAVILION STYLE COVERED FROM CAN TO CANT, just a thought my friend. You never know until you try. ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR SHOW
The 4150 holley, the chrome one , owes me a 401 horse 340. The chrome inside and pump gas = chrome pump gas. Basically stripped the chrome inside, and ate it. Or drank it.
ALL YOUR CARS R AWESOME. IS THAT LIGHTER THEN A 68 ROAD RUNNER. A 440 WITH A BLOWER WOULD BE AWESOME. FOR QUARTER ETS.. HOPE U GET MORE CHARGERS. .. BE NICE IF YOUR UNCLE WITH THE JUNK YARD LET YOU GET ALL THE OTHER KOOL STUFF OUT OF THEIR. I LOVE THAT BLACK DART YOU BUILT FOR YOUR COUSIN. THE ONE WITH 426 WEDGE IN THEIR.GOD SHINES ON YOU. YOU GOT SUPER GREAT TALENT N ALL KINDS OF AWESOME CARS
In 1969 Plymouth came out with a marketing tool called the Rapid Transit System and they posted in dealerships, the ET's for Cuda's, Duster's , Road Runners and GTX's with various options. The 340 Duster optimally equipped was quicker than Hemi Road Runner, so don't make fun of the Aspen. With the right equipment, it will run with your Chargers !
You mentioned people are probably asking why,. I’d be asking why not? What does Thrash and beat on add up to? FUN! These are the perfect vehicles to do it with. They’re not muscle cars, limited editions or highly sought after. Although I think with some Craigers, a hemi scoop and like a duck tail spoiler and yeah need some sort of body hugging bumpers. Maybe something like a rambler scrambler paint job then maybe thrash on some Chevy and some fords!
Couldn't have given Derrick a better ride in a clothes dryer! Fuckin priceless! And the look on that kids face when you were talking at the camera! Funny as hell!
Nice name for the car "THE ASPIRINE!" CAUSE YOU ARE GONNA NEED MORE THAN "ASPIRIN" TO FIX YOU , THE CAR, AND THE PROPERTY DAMAGE YOU'RE GONNA DO WITH THAT BEASTLY BEATER.... I HAVE SEEN YOU DO AMAZING STUFF TO MOTORS " ASS.....MMED " TO BE CLAPPED OUT! YOU JIST LIKE TO TEAR THINGS DOWN AND HAVE FUN WITH YOUR JUNK! AS PROMISED IN YOUR INTRO!!!!! I STILL AM WATCHING YOU AND JEB MAKE MAGIC!
I have 76 Aspen spindles, breaks, and upper control arms under my 68 Charger. It seems to handle quite a bit better than the 70 Barracuda I used to have.? Great vid. Chris!
Dude thrashed the living fuck out of that ASSpen. Thanks for uploading, I learned a lot of tips and tricks. I miss the days in the '90s and early 2000's of getting a cheap beater from an old person that's been sitting for eternity and gutting it and abusing and daily driving it. I still have two of my beaters and intend to have more fun with them when I can get that miserable thing called "life" under control. This vid was funny as hell.
Sincere props to Derrick for accepting the acting straight man role and being that guy puttin the real work with Chris in taking these projects to their shining moment
He has mastered the straight man role. He's the Bud Abbott of the automotive world! 😂
@@1980bwc☑️Sure is the right guy to go in with on them projects
We all need a buddy like Derrick!!!
Chris: I'm gonna keep this short
Also Chris: 1h49m
He needs that extra time, to get in all of his Name Drops. 😂

Wow what a dumb thing to post.
Derick thank you so much for help all the time. You are the best kind of friends to have. I wish you lived close to me i would hang out with you

I’ve been waiting for the Aspen build for awhile. And now it’s finally here..
The Aspen body lines are awfully similar to the Chevy Nova and Buick Skylark of the same period. That alone qualifies it as a cool car 💯
Pontiac had the Ventura that was really similar too.
Stupid and annoying post.
Now you just need to find the local Gambler 500 event and have a great weekend. I built a Lexus IS300 beater into an off road rally type car and it's the most fun I've had for the least $$$.
Damm son, you the man. Welding up those pistons🙌🙌

Thanks for the coverage of the event and it was great to meet you in person!
Still amazed at this motor 👍

NGL,I like that body style...is it as nice as a 70s duster? no,is it cool? fuck yeah, havent seen one since the 80s
180 out, yup, crossed plugs, yup, leaky carbs, yup. Been there done that. 68 Hemi Charger RT, 67 Dodge Coronet 500 RT, 2007 Superbee SRT8, 2009 Challenger SRT8.
You remind me of a friend that had a junkyard that built a dirt track around it and built his race cars from the junkers.
Sounds right ...
Sounds so sweet 👍👍👍
You should take that thing out to Jean Dry Lake where it is a little smoother than that Off Road Park off of North Las Vegas Blvd.
These and the Malibu's from the same time period, definately have a very similar look to the each other.
LoL. Nice DIY rally car. Fab in a roll cage, some off-road lights, and maybe a custom front grill guard, and you'd have a bug-out type beater rally car.
i had a 78 plymouth volari 4 speed with a 318 2 barrel i built .. i loved it and wish i had it again...
Derek don't look too well lol 😊😊
Red muffers are the ol Glass packs
Blue are the Steel packs 👍😎
Aspirin like it 😂
Asspen, a legend is born.
This looks like you had a lot of fun. Glad I could contribute. Love seeing you thrash on old junk. If you ever come to Alaska, please come help me fix my Lemans.

Looks like a little travel and a king travel front end would help. Maybe a dual axel and some shaved dualy fenders
Whoever does your haircut has an awesome sense of humour.
Hey Chris thank you for the video it was great
Looks like we’re gonna find out!!

I must be the only one that likes the Aspen/Volare cars. Anyway, looks like your having fun with the beater. Love it.
I would've swapped the Aspen for the Dodge Diplomat. LOL
Good times 🎉 I like the welded pistons
Hell fuckin yeah. You're a real one brother.
Another marathon video, loved it. You're a great entertainer Mr.Birdsong, you need to drag Derek out of his shell, he's so quiet, nice guy, just need to yap more :) Thanks for an epic journey once again.

“Taking the valve covers off” the most Derek has ever said 😂😂

Can't beat the hot spanner.
Halarious and fun!!👍😀🏁
the master at work always impressive Chris
So surprised it didn't snap a T-bar. Those cars are notorious for it.
This really reminds me of building demolition derby cars. They didn't last long but we're fun as hell....

That's a nicer looking car than a Charger.
Chris you had fun with this beater
Couldn't have given Derrick a better ride in a clothes dryer! Fuckin priceless! And the look on that kids face when you were talking at the camera! Funny as hell!
Im interested to see you pull the motor apart to see what it looks like inside!! Pistons pins bearings! ????
way to go Chris, crappiest car on the channel, most intriguing video on there. 😂 sucks you right in. keep going!
You sure are making that bumper smaller LOL but she's running really good
Oh it’s gonna scatter. The only question is how long is the fun gonna be before it seizes.
lol glad I’m wrong. I hope. Ha love to see it.
Had to resubscribe yet again ,You are the second site today.
Use a block of wood and a floor Jack under your door and tweak it. So it works better.
being in the rainyest place state in the us. we all have to time our out door work.
I know this is old video but damn good job man
