Here here! Here here!
well she'll need to wati for the funeral to happen which won't be till monday
It would be interesting to see what goes according to plan and what changes. Princess Anne was part of the night watch which is a departure from tradition (and a good one I think), and the Queen did pass away in Scotland.
Yes!
That is what I mentioned above in comments too.
If there's no violent corgi attack that cause city wide fire on my funeral then I'm not dying

There was one thing that I liked from Elizabeth's funeral that is worth sharing now that it has happened.
The late Queen had myrtle, a symbol for a good marriage in floriography, in her wedding bouquet. After the service she took a cutting from the myrtle and grew it into a plant. The florists for her funeral then took that same plant and used some cuttings from it for her funeral flowers.
Edit: BTW the reigning monarch is addressed as "Your Majesty". "Your Highness" is the address for other members of the family.
Rewatching this because your video was the first thing I thought of when the queen's death was announced. I cannot believe a year and 5 months later London Bridge is actually happening.

SAME!!!! I finish work and came running
Same here. I mention to my coworkers and the call me crazy.
I follow her on Instagram and she posted something about this video, so I knew I had to come rewatch it. I'm an American, but my sister lives in London. I've always been intrigued by the Royals (I was a little girl when Prince Charles and Lady Di got married and it was the first major event I can remember seeing), but even more so after watching William and his brother walk the long torturous walk after their mother died. I love that the US has lowered their flags until after the Queen's funeral.
17 months...
As a British girl I have to be honest, I don't think the Queen can die... her hoard of Corgis give her power.
Edit: Well... bollocks...
They're sorta like "The Picture of Dorian Gray". Or maybe familiars.
You may be on to something there ;)
All her Corgis have sadly died, shes got some other dog now, think its a mix but no corgis.

As a brit, roumour has it, the queen is staying alive out of spite until Charles Passes because she absolutely doesnt want him to suceed her.
Cant she technically just decide who gets to suceed her?
@@jurgenkoks9142 No, the line of succession is determined by birth, she can`t do much except outlive the moldy piece of toast and his crusty wife. Corgis confirmed, Caitlin.
They are outside at Windsor Castle, honoring the Queen.
Anyone who watched this a year+ ago coming back because of Her Majesty’s passing? Caitlin knew what’s up!
As a Brit, I mostly want her to live to 100 so she has to send herself a telegram.
My 3-times great grandmother purposefully lived to 100 just to get her letter from the president (didn't know other countries besides the US did this before this comment surprisingly). She was up and dancing on her 100th birthday. Then she got her letter and 3 days later said she was ready to go and passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her kids. She was an awesome woman who they had to literally wrangle her drivers license from at age 90 because she could still technically drive legally but they didn't want her to keep leaving the nursing home whenever she pleased, I hope to someday be half as bad a bitch as she was 😂😂😂
@theinquisitiveowl I hate to break it to you, but nobody has sent a telegram in the UK since 1982.
Perhaps the Queen might send herself a congratulatory card.
She doesn't have to anyway. She can apply for herself to send herself a card though.
You only get a card (now, not a telegram) if you apply for one to be sent ..
Imagine if Phillip lived to 100 and she just gave him a letter over breakfast.
do I smell a new series ... royal funerals through history ... might be fun
That sounds like an excellent idea!

She ain't gonna last the year! She's been in love with Phillip since she was 13 years old. Theirs was a marriage of love not of convenience.

The queen is going to outlive Charles purely out of spite, it's the only thing keeping her alive right now.
I think people need to just let the triangle go. It’s not like either Charles or Diana entered the marriage out of love. Compared to his brother, Charles hasn’t really done anything wrong.
@@Solo-vh9fm It did not excuse how he treated her. There are plenty of peoplin arranged marriages even today and they can treat each other with respect

People legit act like Charles was abusive because of that one interview clip.
That would be the most Elisabeth thing ever!
@@almamater489 how did he treat her though. They both had interests in other people. I like Diana as much as the people who dislike Charles do, but it’s been 25 years since they divorced and their marriage was 15 years. Prince Phillip is indeed getting an eco friendly casket, according to the current coverage.

This is my first time ever commenting on RUclips but I just wanted to state that I immediately came to rewatch this video after the queen was announced dead
Same :(((
Should have remained silent
Just watched the ceremony and I gotta say that seeing the queen at her 94 years of age, walking alone into the chapel, sitting alone away from her loved ones and then exit and getting into a car also alone and wiping her tears after saying goodbye to her lifetime companion, puts into perspective that royal life, as fancy as it may be, it's a very solitary life.
@thefeathered amigos I just caught the live stream of the BBC on RUclips. I'm sure they'll upload it soon, maybe tomorrow
Indeed. It seems you are restricted in your humanity!!!Must so horrid!!
Her lady-in-waiting was with the Queen in the car, but yeah, in the chapel it was heartbreaking to see her so alone. Being monarch is a lonely life, and Prince Phillip really was a good helpmate and partner for her. I can't imagine having someone who has been such a big part of my life for so long suddenly be gone.
Know what you mean, whats that saying a gilded cage may look appealing but it’s still a cage. She looked so tiny and alone
It broke my heart to see her alone, weeping like that. My husband even started crying.
As far as I can tell (UK native), the royal family are kind of like a massive grandfather clock sitting in your lounge; grandma really likes it and gets annoyed when people make fun of it, mum hates the bloody thing, and the kids don't really care one way or another.
Wonderful analogy
Ahhh that puts it perfectly
Thats the best description I have read regarding my own familys attitude. My mums family are English. My Dads Irish. And i grew up in both countries, see both points of view and amd on the whole indifferent to them.
Well, in so far as one can be indifferent to a family who live a life one can only dream of by living on state handouts.
The Royal Family are basically Aristocratic Chavs.
This is brilliant
This, so much this. UKer here and I think the fact that 110, 000 people complained to the BBC that a program reporting the Prince's death added to the TV schedule meant a cooking program was cancelled says it all. Some people care, but most of the people I know of a wide age range just dont care.
They did this with the queen too. The put out a statement this morning she was under a medical supervision because they were concerned for her health, then after dinner they announced she passed (my home time not UK time)
I'm rewatching this in the immediate wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth, more than a year after her husband's passing.
Talking about disastrous royal funerals, you should do a video on the funeral of William the Conqueror! Two words: Exploding. Corpse.
I was actually surprised she didn't start with this one in the 'royal funerals gone wrong' - I thought instantly of this moment in history.

@@cindylou6084 I got you, fam: Apparently his internal organs were badly bruised when after collapsing in the heat of the battlefield, he was thrown onto the back of a horse, and the hard saddle pommels were rammed into his gut. He eventually, yanno, died.
Then, this is what I got from the Historic UK website: "To begin with, the room in which his body lay was almost immediately looted. The king’s body was left lying naked on the floor, while those who had attended his death scuttled off clutching anything and everything. Eventually a passing knight appears to have taken pity on the king and arranged for the body to be embalmed - sort of - followed by its removal to Caen for burial. By this time the body was probably already a little ripe, to say the least. When the monks came to meet the corpse, in a spooky re-run of William’s coronation, fire broke out in the town....(ed. - so everyone had to stop with the funeral and run to help fight the fire).
"Just at the point where the assembled mourners were asked to forgive any wrongs that William had done, an unwelcome voice piped up. It was a man claiming that William had robbed his father of the land on which the abbey stood. William, he said, was not going to lie in land that didn’t belong to him. After some haggling, compensation was agreed.
"The worst was yet to come. William’s corpse, bloated by this point, wouldn’t fit into the short stone sarcophagus that had been created for it. As it was forced into place, 'the swollen bowels burst, and an intolerable stench assailed the nostrils of the by-standers and the whole crowd', according to Orderic. No amount of incense would cover up the smell and the mourners got through the rest of the proceedings as quickly as they could."
“Please God not on my shift” is a headline that sums up my entire working life...

As a Brit, public sentiment towards Charles is pretty much unwilling acceptance. There’s admittedly a certain gleeful hope that the queen will outlive him though.
If she does outlive him how will the line of succession go? Cause in the past we’ve seen it past to the oldest male cousin. Not in British royalty obviously.
FlimsyEnthusiasm I don’t actually know but I strongly suspect the succession would just be passed onto William
The Duke of Cambridge, Charles’ elder son, will take the throne.
What he do for the public disappointment o:
@@baronvonjo1929 Well, speaking as an ungrateful traitor, I've actually discussed this with some Brits both while physically over there and online, and largely? Camilla's what he did. Not only the HUGE scandal he caused the Royal Family (And the country as a whole, really), but also there isn't much fondness for Camilla on a personal level. People just don't like her. And they REALLY don't like the concept of her as either the Queen or the King's Consort.
Not British, but it's always been my thought that both Queen Elizabeth and Betty White are immortal beings whom will outlive all of us.

You say that, and it suddenly gave me the most absurd image of the two of them standing on a lone mountain in the wilderness. I didn't know he had died. Of course, I haven't been paying much attention to the news lately because my ex-wife passed away suddenly the day before and I've been a little distracted with making arrangements, notifying people, getting probate started, etc.
She was also a fan of this channel and she decided that she wanted to be an organ and tissue donor followed by a simple direct cremation with no viewing. I found a wonderful funeral director who listened to me, respected our wishes, and didn't try to sell me any extras. So, thanks, Caitlin, for making us aware of what our options are and where we could just say, "No."

I’ve been saying for years that she will outlive Charles. I still think she will.
Welp... Charles is overall not well-liked. And has so bad luck that the last will of the Queen will take away powers from the monarchy so it will become just a nice cute little thing for tourists and fans to follow. Something similar to Japan's Royal family: They are still there, are respected, and serves as moral support for the people... but they are powerless and the country don't spend lots of money on them.

I like yer thinkin’!
I was working during prince Phillip's funeral, a busy Saturday in a pub. 3pm hit and silence most eerie feeling. It made me think about the queens death, which I can't imagine. I don't think anyone wants her to die before Charles.
My Grand Aunt is 107 years old unfortunately she is cursed with life according to her genetics did this, the Queen Mum was over 100 so it’s not unheard of the Queen going to 100 or more. People don’t choose the length of time they are able to live. Sad she’s hunched over, hello she’s 95 years old it’s part of aging not mourning. I dislike Prince Phillips’s funeral was spun with speculation and drama! The news media should be ashamed for not keeping the funeral strictly about the Duke!

I've heard it said that the Queen will live until Charles dies so he can't have the crown. LOL (This is probably just a joke, but I could see it.)

Who else back here for Queen Elizabeth ?
I’m back here on the day the Queen has died as a refresher on what is going to happen in the next few days
I love your videos and have even committed to aquamation after death
Uk based here . Everyone I’ve spoken to (regardless of their view of the royals) have agreed one on thing . It was very sad to see and elderly lady alone at her husbands funeral 😢 I’m sure the nation felt that ❤️
I am from the USA. Seeing Queen Elizabeth sitting alone made me cry. Damned Covid 19
I’m Scottish. Me and my family are very anti monarchy, we don’t watch the queens speech at Christmas etc. But that photo was just so heartbreaking. You don’t need to be a royalist to see the grief.
Oh my God, yes. I'm anti-monarchy too but seeing Elizabeth sitting alone was heartbreaking. No one should experience the death of their loved ones like that.
The Queen looked so small and alone...She's been very Stoic and Steadfast throughout her lifetime...
I'm Australian and Love the Royal Family...I'm so Proud we're still part of the Commonwealth...
We're very Fortunate...
I really don't know why I watched this Video...I didn't find it very funny.
@@elenikominos7404 she wasn't trying to be funny. She's being educational to those of us who don't know or understand what the protocol is (or has been) for royal funerals. Of course, in true Caitlyn fashion, she tried to bring some light-heartedness to death, but she didn't make this video or any other video to be funny.
I’m a Londoner, and the general consensus is that people tend to be ambivalent towards Charles, people tend to prefer William and want him to directly ascend to the throne rather than Charles, people are also intrigued and watch the royals closely whenever someone from the family dies. People either love them or are ambivalent and don’t really care. We respect them but also accept that they don’t really have any power.
Are they good for tourism though?
I'm a Londoner and I think they can all go into the sea. Even Philip. He was a racist ass.
@@catercoz2491 Of course they are. Royal-related tourism pumps like, 1.5 billion into the economy every year. On a year where Something Big happens where international crowds can line the streets, you can add another half billion at least.
As an American (US), I'm curious about how people felt towards Charles during the Diana break-up and then when he married Camila and then as time went on after the marriage.
I think my personal feelings were that he was an ass, then it was clear that Camila was his true love and I felt my feelings soften towards him. So overall I'm more positive about him than 25 years ago. Of course I was sooo much younger then too (sigh), so I wasn't really clear on what the truth was about their relationship. I had just heard things like him being dismissive of Harry at birth since he's a ginger, and that made me angry towards him.
@@catercoz2491 Buckingham Palace is normally quite busy, and if a Royal is visiting a town, there's normally a good local turnout. But I can't see how they are particularly good for tourism, unless we allowed people to view them, zoo style. Our history is amazing though, along with our landscapes and customs, so come on over, but leave any Covid variants at home please, we have enough of our own. :-)
I CAME AS SOON AS I HEARD
Yep, Balmoral it was. Dunno why, but hearing the news of the queen made me want to rewatch this.
I read Elton John's biography and he has a part where he talks about a dinner he attended with the royals including the Queen. Apparently one of the guests, a Lady something, retired early due to not feeling well. The Queen asked her husband, Lord something (I'm sorry I do not remember their names, I mean no offense) to go check on her but he kept putting her off. So she walked right up to him and started lightly smacking on his cheeks with the tips of her fingers, saying "Do-smack-not-smack- argue-smack- with-smack- me-smack- young-smack- man, I-smack- am -smack -the Queen!" He then left sheepishly to check on his Lady. The Queen turned toward Elton, saw he had seen the whole thing, and winked at him with a smile and walked off. I fell in love with her at that point. LOLROF!! LOVE the cheekiness!!
LOLLL
I do love the Queen!
I've spent my life since watching the tabloids talk of her mistreating Diana in the 80s and 90s and never saw her have a heart but that story is one I hope is true and would've loved to witness.
Then there's the story from when a Saudi (?) leader came to visit the British royal family, after having made remarks about women not being able to drive.
The Queen gave him a ride.
I'm not sure if he was more or less convinced of his point after, but I gather he didn't want to upset the Queen again.
She couldve ordered "Off w his head" but alas She is not the Queen of Hearts
I'm from the North East of England. We're traditionally more loyal than a lot of areas.
I had to drive for an hour immediately after the funeral, the towns and roads were empty.
Everyone I know was sad to hear of his death and most people said they'd be watching the funeral on TV as it happened.
Last time I saw the Queen and Prince Phillip I was stood outside a pub with a pint of beer in my hand, their car stopped next to me for a few seconds. Philip nudged the Queen and both gave me huge smiles as I literally raised my glass to them. It was a moment of genuine warm acknowledgment by them.
Norfolk? I'm in Suffolk. What a respectful funeral it was.
What a lovely memory :) I too have a warm memory of Queen Elizabeth. In 1977 at age 11 I saw her at the Queens Gardens in Invercargill, New Zealand. She looked right at me and smiled. I've never forgotten how warm and genuine she looked.
I immediately came back to this video and sent it out to friends. RIP Elizabeth
London Bridge is down, Caitlin!
I hope you do a follow up so we can see how close this was!
"The queen's coffin nearly gets shot out of the cart to slide down the hill"---Caitlin trying not to laugh. I absolutely love her.
Great for you to say.
Try 73+ years!

It's very clearly difficult to carry a coffin up a large staircase as well.
There was an officer delegated to walk behind the coffin up the steps with a hand on it to prevent it sliding backwards off the shoulders of the bearers.

Checking in a year later for a reminder what to expect now London Bridge has fallen down.
UK based here. Philip was loved and hated. Today felt very stripped back and the service had a chilled vibe to it. At one point the casket/coffin just seemed to disappear, as cameras were focused on the singers and readers. It was very sudden and caught me off guard. He went down to the vault in no time.
I'm from Wales and Philip will be best remembered for his efforts after the Aberfan disaster when 144 children and adults died. He visited 9 times in his life and made sure the Queen came to the site a week after the disaster. Wales shall always thank him for that.
I had never heard of the Aberfan disaster, so I just looked it up on Wikipedia. That sounds like it was a horrific tragedy.
@@ambulocetusnatans if you get a chance, watch The Crown episode on the tragedy. In my opinion it’s one of the best episodes - so heartbreaking but very beautifully done.
@@catherinedegreif8500 : But don’t forget The Crown is dramatised, it isn’t history.
I think we need to caution ourselves to pay heed to original sources and not take the skews of films or TV shows as truth.
My fear is that because of more contemporary styling and high production values we risk treating the treatments as the more authentic.
@@chriswalford4161 Yes, for sure. I knew nothing about the disaster, but that episode sent me down a rabbit hole and I learned a lot, which is good. I only meant that comment reminded me of that episode, which was so well-done.

@@catherinedegreif8500 : I do just-about remember it; I would have been 12. The rescue seemed to go on for days, and report filming that was taken was withheld at the time for its directness, but has subsequently been shown, so what I watched when is a bit muddled. Temporary morgues; families losing some, all or none of their kids and not knowing. Close-knit Welsh villages that knew mining tragedies but not to lose the children. I remember the recovery from the rubble went on for days - that was very real and horrifying.

About time for us to revisit this one!!!
The Queen Has passed today 9/8/22 at about 6pm GMT. At Balmoral. Accompanied by her family. Operation London Bridge has begun.
Elizabeth II has set the record for longest reigning monarch. I bet this record will NEVER be broken.
Yes, the CEO of the commonwealth is now Charles the third.
She is the second longest reigning monarch. In first place is Louis XIV with 72 years on the throne.
Oh Yeah. King Louis was made King when he was a baby.
King Louis XIV should have moved to England.
"Being King is not something you should lose your head over!"
To be fair, it’s a thought match to go against. Can’t outshine the Sun after all.
Ol’ Lizzie had as good of a run anyone can get. I don’t think even her grandson will last as long when his time comes. Maybe by the time of her great-grandson, medicine will be so advanced that he might beat her.
There is the possibility of Charles managing to do it out of the sheer power of failson spite - who knows.
I'm Scottish and although I'm not into the royal family, my heart went out to the Queen. Seeing her sitting on her own, head bowed was so sad.
Your ancestors must be flipping over in their graves.
I can't even imagine. Hubs and I just had our 37th, and I cannot even imagine being without him (or worse, I can). Seeing her sitting alone was so heartbreaking, but I do suspect she'd have been just as alone without pandemic restrictions. We may mourn together, but we each grieve alone.
The first time that I lost it was when the procession formed up. Prince Charles looked devastated. Then when the Queen was there all alone, I couldn't help but cry my eyes out. They were together for longer than I have been alive, and to face the funeral without even a hand to hold must have been even more difficult. Her Majesty is a very strong lady.
@@harrynicholes3166 Certainly not. Scots are independent, they are also humane.
I really love that she did that. It felt like she was showing solidarity with everyone who’s had to be alone burying someone they love during COVID. I don’t know if it was intentional but I think it probably was
*Caitlyn:* The media does not show the faces of the mourning royals.

Well, actually, THIS video was my first thought right after I got to know that QE II passed away today.
Came to rewatched this a few mins after the passing of Queen Elizabeth, to get any Operation London Bridge details you dropped.
"British people, do you ... are you excited for Charles to be king"
Immediately rushes to the comments to see what British followers say.
lol same. I'm American so can't say I have an inside view, but I certainly wouldn't picture them to be excited for Charles to be queen. I would imagine they'd be much more excited for Prince William to be king.
Eta: I didnt realize I'd typed Charles to be "queen" by mistake but now Im going to leave it because a) it's hilarious and b) most of the replies wont make sense if I edit it out. 😂
@@kenetrice as an American I don't see many people even talking about Charles at all except for people saying he looks lost lmao, but the people ive talked to don't like William at all.
British follower here: most of us feel pretty ambivalent towards the royal family, but the Queen has been mostly inoffensive by their standards, so we’re not looking forward to seeing how he’d handle it. We’re also a very sullen and hostile people by nature, so we’re probably going to mock him ruthlessly. This will be a bonding experience for the country, since mocking someone together is the main way we show affection
I’m Anglican (the most common denomination of christianity in the UK), and the Queen is technically the head of the church. That mostly just means church services sometimes involve a carefully *apolitical* ‘praying for the government’ section, but it would also mean that on the queen’s death, Prince Charles would become (in name only - our monarchs don’t actually do anything) the highest authority in my religion. Not thrilled about that, but at least this version of Christianity isn’t evangelical and no one says anything if you wear a pride flag bowtie to church.
Finally, most of the country were born after the queen was crowned, meaning that the idea of a king sounds Weird and Wrong and We Don’t Like It
@@Sammit00 thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Brit perspective: I don't think many of us really care that much. I can't speak for everyone of course, but most of the people I know like having the Queen, because she's kind of a boss, but the rest of the royals we're just totally neutral toward. Most of them are just bland, uninspiring and sort of useful for tourism and PR, but that's about it.
Like I don't think they would ditch having a monarch after the Queen carks it, but I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't really care if they did.
The picture of queen Elizabeth sitting alone in all black mourning her husband is heart breaking 💔
That made me cry so hard.
Will you do a follow-up video now that Her Majesty has died? A kind of "what I expected vs what happened" type thing? I don't mean right now, but in the future.
Came to watch this again as a Brit who just watched the queen's funeral. Never been a royalist but it felt like a historic moment that I should watch.
I'm not a Brit or much of a monarchist but seeing the Queen so alone, so frail, that broke my heart. Their marriage lasted longer than nearly twice of my life, it boggles my mind. I hope she is given some love once the cameras are off. And her note on his casket read "I love you" and that just about KILLED me!
Shes not alone
@@AngelaBuyck yes she is?
@@evafowler2589 I think they meant that her children and grandchildren are around.
The Queen has it all, even true love.
My grandparents married in their 30s, which was rare then. But they were so made for each other. They were married 65 years, only ending when he died at age 97, in 2008. She carried on for nine more years, saying she was ready to be "with my Harold," but that God must have a reason to keep her on earth. She passed on in March 2018, less than a month prior to her 107th birthday. We joked about Papa sitting on a bench outside the Pearly Gates, just waiting for her bus. 💕
Queen Victoria didn’t attend Prince Albert’s funeral because in the 19th century it was believed that women shouldn’t be present at funerals because they’d get hysterical 😑🤷🏼♀️
That's really sad given how much she loved him.
I mean yes but if there is anywhere where it should be acceptable to become hysterical shouldn’t it be at a funeral? That reasoning is absurd , misogynistic and completely ignores the fact that men also get hysterical at funerals.
The past is sometimes a confusing place .
@@bpeace1100 the past laid the groundwork for the misogyny of today. Even as Queen Victoria was valued as little more than property and not capable of making competent decisions for herself. It was just another way to marginalize women. There are so many horrifying examples from the past it makes one shudder...until you realize it still happens, just a bit more covertly now,
My friend was stopped from going to the funeral of her still born baby for this reason. It’s a religious thing for them
Wha? When my neighbours wife died due to complications in pregnancy, he threw himself on the casket during the funeral... and 6 months later he was married again... that was awkward 😬

How incidental is it that this popped up in my feed the day before her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's funeral? I am nodding along in agreement with this. The funeral is going to be HUGE, partly because of the reverence in which the Queen was held not just with us common folk, but worldwide. For most of us,she's the only monarch we've had.
