Got a chance to play the whole lineup of basses and guitars at work today. Very very impressed with all of them. Still waiting on a full sized PJ that doesn't cost $1300, but I'm pretty happy with them all so far. Might jump on a red P and a burst Mustang.
Player series Jaguar bass is 34" with PJ layout. Plus, it's got the blend capabilities with the two volume knobs. I don't know if they'll bring those back for the Player II Series, though. I doubt they sold well, but I am only guessing.
This cute little piece of wood sounds so full of charme, but the best thing about Player II series in general is surely the fact that Fender finally came back to rosewood fretboards!
I actually liked pau ferro , do not know why it got such hatred, liked the sound-boutique builders have been using it for some time. I love rosewood too, glad to see it back.
You could get rid of the 3way switch and use a stacked knob for the volume and keep the tone knob the same. That’s what I did with mine. Sounds way better!
I am truly wondering how this will stack up next to my Affinity PJ, which you can blend the picks with. I hope this isn't an early return, we will find out on Saturday when my Auqatone Blue one shows up.
I'm really curious to see how this new one compares to the American Performer, I compared the order version and much preferred the American in every way, also every time I try a MIM Fender the fret edges are SHARP so always have to think about adding the cost of having that taken care of to the total
I have both. I would say it depends on what is most important to you. If you want versatility, the PJ Mustang. If you want the best ergonomics/feel, the short scale Stingray. They are both great basses, though, and I wouldn't hesitate to have only either of them.
@@christocr I ended up going with the Stingray and love it -- The only thing I'd say I'm noticing on it is since the bridge is positioned so far I find for some playing it makes it a tad harder for me (like slapping, I need to raise the guitar higher than normal to maintain a good thumb angle).
I’m glad it’s got such a thick full sound. As a guitar player that transitioned to mainly bass, this is the most comfortable bass for me but never quite hit the spot tone wise. Probably doesn’t help that I play drop C 😂
Are the pickups different than the old pj bass? The website also says upgraded hardware, but visually it looks the same, and the hardware on my old pj is solid
Apples and oranges! The tone, feel and everything about the JMJ feels more “baked in” and vintage while everything for the Player II PJ Mustang is on the opposite spectrum where it feels and sounds modern in comparison. You get more versatility in tones with the PJ Mustang obviously, but the split single coil on JMJ is a lot like a P-Bass in terms of the surprising amount of versatility you’re able to achieve with your playing dynamics and one pickup. Of course if possible, definitely try before choosing but hopefully I was able to provide some sort of decent clarity! Thanks for watching, y’all!
Depends on the tone you’re looking for imo, there’s more versatility with the Mustang but the Stingray Short Scale still has some awesome -but different- tones itself too
Alnico v pus instead of vintage, modern c neck instead of soft d, rosewood neck instead of pau ferro, and last but not least, the colours! I got the red one, but the blue is also beeeeeautiful
@ that’s cool! I wondered about the tone of the vintage pups vs the alnicos! Did you have any issues with the tone on the vintages, or is it just a preference thing?
@@neilanderson9151 no, no issues at all, I used the other bass for 4 years, I just wanted something a bit more punchy since I'm playing in a punk band now, before I played more pop rock, so it was ok for that purpose
Adobe Premiere Pro, don’t use it. I only use it because it’s what I’ve been using for almost a decade. I’d download DaVinci Resolve if I were you. There’s a free version that’s absolutely amazing for almost everything you’d need, I’m doing my best to try and slowly learn it more and more and eventually completely stop using Premiere Pro
@@patrickhunterThat’s the same one Glenn Fricker of Spectre Sound Studio uses. Heard great things about it. What can you do with the paid version that you can’t do with the free version?
Good demo. I would still only buy one of these if my hands were so small that I couldn't play the 34" scale versions of the P-Bass and J-Bass, both of which sound better. It sounds fuller than the Mustang Bass with its original pickup, true - though not as full as the full-size instruments - but it loses the unique character of the original Mustang. It's probably best thought of as its own thing: but what that thing is, isn't clear.
Agree! It looks cool and sounds good but it’s not a Mustang to me. A Mustang bass is simple by nature and that simplicity is what makes it work, like a shorter P Bass. it’s gotta have a string through body, one volume, one tone, no messing! I absolutely love mine.
I just see so many different basses and their tonal characteristics, and then plug in my EDC700 only to find that it can do all those tones and colors 🤣🤣🤣 motown to modern metal, all nailed with stock electronics
Shame a version of this isn't being offered in lefty, much less any bass this time around. Massive downgrade from the original line up. Fender just hates lefties 🤷♂

@@thomaswallace7580 Which defeats the point of a short scale bass in the first place. If it is as big as a full scale bass and plays like a full scale bass, why not just get a full scale bass? For me, if I'm getting a short scale bass, it's because I want a small bass. Otherwise, I'm just going to get a P or J or Stingray or whatever. I just ordered one of these Player II Mustang basses, which will complement my P and J and give me something a little different in feel. @@thomaswallace7580 My favorite short scale over the years has been the EBMM Short Scale Stingray. Problem with those is that they are super expensive.

Just a reminder, The blue one is the prettiest looking bass on the market. And shorts scales are fantastic for airplanes.
Glad that some else is in love with the blue. I personally do not like a lot of the blue colors that Fender has come out with but that one is nice

Is it worth the extra money over the Gretcsh g2220? The Gretsch is just so damn affordable and puts out some amazing sounds
The Gretsch is still under-appreciated.
Nice demo. Did you put long scale strings or did it come like that from the factory? That's a LOOOOT of winding 😂
Does anyone know if they fixed the issue with the toggle switch on these new models??🤔🤔
No. Mine didn’t even work from the factory. Bout the kahakia yellow model two months ago brand new lol.
