I was using Discord for the first time a while back to play around with AI and all of a sudden after being on there for about a month, with zero problems they suddenly needed my phone number to verify my identity and keep 'me' safe. I was like, how thoughtful, I think deleting my account would be the safest thing I could do for 'my safety' rather than give you my personal details. They didn't get my phone number and I haven't used them since.

This is most companies now days. I try and use as much fake data as possible. Fake birth dates, fake address, backup email, and a phone you can block numbers on...and a good VPN
if your on the internet, data is collected. Nothing is private and you can't hide.

Unless you're also spoofing all of your hardware IDs and changing those spoofs consistently, it only takes a single financial transaction to tie your real identity to every single bit of activity you've ever had across the internet.

I don't know why companies do this to their customer. Doesn't they know if the customer trust is gone it might destroy their company's reputation? Think about it. If the company's reputation is destroyed then no one is gonna use its service and goes bankrupt.

I did saw this bad news from discord, now in thinking the best way to do is delete discord account to rip off all chat, message and videos to avoid my privacy, sensitive personal info and important identity inside discord account.
I deleted discord from all my electronics. Wether they are cool with my data being stolen/sold or not is irrelevant. Discord has proven to be a liability to user privacy. Discord needs to take legal action.
Why are people expecting free use products safe?
Privacy is an illusion at best. I don't currently use Discord or any social media platform other than RUclips comments. At least RUclips is up front about saying that they collect Terms we search for, Videos we watch, and Views and interactions with content and ads, but claim they don't sell this data.

Federated solutions are the way to go. Create your own server in a way that you can communicate with other instances.
