Call centers are difficult and stressful just working at a center doing tech work for Verizon. There are times when you are not ready and still typing notes from the last caller and the next caller pops up. Most callers don’t call about the same issue and somethings will be learned as the call progresses such as quickly looking up data or steps through data bases. I can’t imagine the hell going through with such stressful emergency calls. What it sounds like is lack of training. Lack of practice doing drills with old calls.
Before saying she is lazy or what not, she still needs to pay bills. She still forces herself to work even though it is uncomfortable. She can’t just quit because she has financial responsibilities. It sounds like the supervisors should have monitored stats of staff weekly or monthly to devise training for those that struggle.

So the logic is that it is ok to ignore someone calling in crisis needing help that you are hired to give them as a 911 operator if your personal life is difficult? Uh, no. If you are in a crucial role like that it is your responsibility as a halfway decent human to inform your boss that you are unwilling or unable to do your job. Its possible the boss could ha. ve worked something out for her or maybe its better that she find a lower stress job. If they fail to do that, it could be grounds for a mistrial or dismissal (in which case the client gets off scott-free). It has to be that way in a system that presumes everyone innocent at the beginning. If you don't understand that, or simply dislike it, then imagine being a defendant in a system that stacks the deck against you - and you're innocent of the charge! Bottom line, you wanna be upset at someone, be upset at the woman who hung up on thousands of people in trouble!

When people die through medical mispractice, there's investigations and harsh punishment.
A 911 operator might have caused the deaths of many lives, but no investigation? 10 days in jail?
The department should have had better failsafes for this kind of behavior to be detected. If a surgeon is Killing all their patients, the hospital should be investigated too for not catching it earlier

She should be held accountable for each person who died or was severely delayed with medical care because of her behavior. Period. IDGAF what she was "going through" EVERYONE is dealing with a lot and don't behave like this. BS sentence.

They wanted to send a message that her behavior wasn't acceptable...I don't see how a measly 10 days is sending a message! At least 10 months would be far more appropriate! Anyone that hires on as a 911 dispatcher knows exactly what they are signing on to. If whatever it was that was going on in her life was "too much" then she shouldn't be working a job where she has people's lives in her hands!

"She had a lot going on?!" What about those who were calling for emergency help? They "had a lot going on" as well, like fighting for their lives? You think your personal problems are more important than saving a life? If that's the case, you made the wrong career choice.

She thought that she was redirecting emergency calls to operators who were better fit to respond. Yes, she was wrong, but they are right about fixing the fundamental problems of the emergency center. How often are employees evaluated on their performance? I believe they all should be held accountable. Create a plan of action to secure a more productive work environment and periodically screen the staff. How could a person not take 1000 calls and no-one notice? I truly don't understand how some people can say that she looks as if she doesn't care... Pure ignorance. I'd hope she is extremely remorseful and I pray for any families negatively affected.

Do you think Dr's, police and nurses should stop providing assistance because of their own personal issues..??? No, we need to send a message if you can't preform your job take leave or find another job. People ruining 911 need your help.
