Hey guys! Finally another video is on the channel! Thanks for watching, hope you are enjoing this one, we put a lot of effort into it (as we always do) and we were also surprised of how difficult it actually was to adapt the original story. When we started the pre-production of the vid we thought it would be a quick 20 minutes adventure, that we'd just explain how genius the original Watchmen story is and how Snyder's adaptation turned out to be an underrated masterpiece ahead of its time. The rest is history. Gosh that rabbit hole was deep! Anyway, as always I ask you to like and subscribe if you enjoy the content. Leave a comment if we misspelled something again and be welcome to check out other videos! Your support brings us tears of joy, keeps us from burnout and helps us make more videos! Hopefuly we'll soon reach a stable pace! Peace!
This movie is incredible. The changes they made to the story fit well and worked. I don't know if it's possible to make a better version of the graphic novel into film.
I think it was a joke or smth. Because it’s so obviously not Gilliam’s film, - just like in one of the previous vids they say Rob Schneider was among those actors who were offered to play John Mcclane. I guess it’s some kind of a gag made looking for the hawkeyes in the comments 😀
Read the novel and watched the movie - absolutely amazed by both. Imo, Snyder nailed it and adapted as close as possible Thx for the vid, had no idea they were trying to adapt Watchmen for so long But I guess it’s a good thing they couldn’t make a movie in the 80s or 90s, it definitely would not have been so beautiful as it is now
Considering all the obstacles until this movie could be done, I must say that the result is 100% how it should be. From the excellent cast to the brilliant visuals and the adherence to the graphic novel, this is the best comic-based movie as of today.
The TV show blows the movie out of the water. Thoughtful, intellectual and mind-blowing, just like the original comic. I LOVED that they made Snyder’s movie style into the hacky joke TV series within the show. Snyder was all wrong for it, but at least he showed some part of the brilliant story could be visualized.
13:06 Goode is perfect casting, considering for 2008 the Superman face was Brandon Routh and he and Goode look very alike, and in comics Ozymandias and Superman have exactly the same face per Gibbons. Also Ozy's costume in ZS version is closest to Joel Schumacher style version of Superman, especially if you recolor it and ad S symbol, and for people who don't know in original comics neither Shuster nor Kane painted nipples on half naked Clark or Bruce so the whole "nipples" thing is actually valid take considering that costume supposed to be so skin tight that if you recolor it into skin color it would be exactly the same - logo, which is also real reason for "trunks" too. Also Zack's Dollar Bill is the only red trunks in the movies that are like in Superman actual comics. Ironically.
The problem with Snyders watchmen was the that a majority of things went over his head, on top of missing out on subtext. Trying to fit a complex plot into 3 hours was a fools errand. It is a decent film but what watchmen needs is a miniseries that can explore the comic and not lose anything in the translation
@@ThatGuy-tg7cv I though the concept was interesting but I find Damon lindelof to a be a pretentious wank stain who thinks he’s some genius but is just is high off his own farts. Especially his letter to Moore outlining his plan and his stupid ass outline for the public. Anybody that goes out of their way to be contrary is just a hack.
I haven’t seen the directors cut of it (didn’t know how troubled the production was, or that so much had been cut so thank you @hollywood_lore for sharing the story!), but I felt like the theatrical release really missed the point of the graphic novel. 😢
Watchmen Chapter I / II (2024/2025) is the best way to adapt Watchmen and a good way to adapt some comics or comic strips. I'd love to see them using this cel-shading technique to adapt Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon, Neal Adams' Batman, Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's Swamp Thing etc.
If Watchmen had been made during the nineties or early 2000's, Jeff Daniels and Rene Auberjonios would've been excellent Nite Owl II and Rorschach respectively.
People who like the movie have a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. Alan Moore's graphic novel was an outright condemnation of the superhero genre. The story featured very real people with very real problems. The point being that none of these people should be vigilantes and anyone who dresses up in a silly costume to save the world is a complete wacko. The movie disregards all of that and makes the story about badass asskickers kicking ass. Its the complete antithesis to what made the original great
Thats not right imho. Just the ending was rewrite and its better for a movie version. The Rest is filmed panel by panel. So how could that be a failure for fans? I have the comics since years and i love the directors cut of the movie. One of the best "Superhero"- movie of all time.
@@spielfreizeitmitm.o.d.4277 Eh.. kind of, but many readings of dialogue and character moments are clearly very different in tone that what was in the book. It is very over the top and melodramatic in places.. some characters had drastically different portrayals... but it is one guy's interpretation I guess.
@StruggleoftheOutsider I guess the point is that everybody read the text in the comic with his/her impression of emotion/mood. And so fits the dialog for one (like me) and for another not. And some costume works for comic but not for the screen. Surely we can discuss about it but at the end it is a matter of taste. And i think that at the end both bring sense behind (media/politic/superhero -critik etc.) on point. For me it is one of the best Superheromovie for all time and the other have the comics. 😉 🖖
@@spielfreizeitmitm.o.d.4277 Again, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. The movie was a surface level adaptation that used the panels to recreate the shots, but completely missed the context of the book and the subtext. Thank you for proving my point.
Zack Snyder's Watchmen is burdened with flaws, chief among them being Zack Snyder. Moore and Gibbons presented action that was not comic-book fisticuffs, but something that tended to be much uglier, scarier and realistic. Instead, Snyder has a character jump onto the roof of a burning building, fall through the roof and make a lovely, glossy slo-mo 3-point landing on the floor beneath. Doing that would have killed the real person that character was intended to represent.
11:23 he is such a pretentious hypocritical bag it is absolutely insane, if you read his 1988 interview he was absolutely ecstatic about Watchmen movie idea. But it is not the first case of him being completely wrong or clueless, his commentary on Weisinger's "influence" on Superman is a testament itself just how full of it at least current Moore truly is when it comes to even objective facts, not even in terms of mental gymnastics about "comics format intended".
Sorry but...I would have loved to watch this except the popping, jiggling subtitles are just too damn distracting. I think you can put those on a CC or "subtitle" channel so we can turn them off. It's obviously fashion because it's only now becoming prevalent and I'd thank everybody to cut it out.
It's garbage, kids. And its coming from someone who has watched it multiple time over the years and owns the graphic novel. Snyder's version is truely garbage, changes some crucial character lines and completely doesn't get these characters (he also didn't get superman so it's not out of left field). Anyway, Watch the part 1 animated version that released this year, part 2 is releasing soon. Now that is pretty much the book as it is.
Zack Snyder is one of the worst directors ever he makes expensive garbage. If you like his films that’s ok nothing wrong with that but to me personally I hate them OTHER than dawn of the dead that one is awesome
@@sacredstarlight9446 nobody shit on his story. that's an extreme assessment. the reason they made it is because they love his story, and not everything can be translated to the big screen as the writer intended. i wouldn't care as long as they pay me and i can keep writing more stories. just because they made a "shit" version of it doesn't mean the original material isn't relevant anymore. stop being such a drama queen.

Hayter in an interview said Moore was a fan of the ending.
Great video! I can’t see what the hint is at 09:54 though. Would you mind explaining it?
Watchmen was the best adaptation of all of his work.
The only watchable adaptation he's ever made
This movie is incredible. The changes they made to the story fit well and worked. I don't know if it's possible to make a better version of the graphic novel into film.
Do you guys really think that Spies Like Us was directed by Terry Gilliam.. ?
I think it was a joke or smth. Because it’s so obviously not Gilliam’s film, - just like in one of the previous vids they say Rob Schneider was among those actors who were offered to play John Mcclane. I guess it’s some kind of a gag made looking for the hawkeyes in the comments 😀
Nah, just a mistake
I actually think the movie is pretty good with the exception of the ending. I don't think they should have changed the ending by deleting the squid.
0:58 Dave Gibson? Sigh. His name is Dave Gibbons.
Shieeeet... thanks man

Thoughts on the sequel series with Jeremy Irons?
Definitely agree. Moore put much of the violence in between the panels. Snyder put it front and center, as he loves to do.

Watchmen is Zack's magnum opus ! It's a MASTERPIECE.
I loved this movie from the first time i saw it.
Gibbons.
yeah, yeah, you're not the first one. Someone already got a bag of d*cks from the scriptwriter

Zack Snyder is King
well it was released over 10 years ago. The only good thing was a prettier version of Lucy Lawless

yeah .. I don't think Afghanistan is moving the nuclear clock in any timeline
But the Biden government definitely is...
Alan Moore needs to chill. Yeah they make trash films out of his material, but so what? Let go of the ego and stfu and keep writing more stories.
Would you want someone to shit on your story by getting it wrong I don't think so
