Gotta admit, Keanu and Sandra had great chemistry in Speed. Good decision from Jan to give Keanu a buzz cut and to also have him bulk out, dude straight out looked like a pit bull!
Speed wasn't a low-budget movie by 1994 standards. Officially it had a budget of $30 mil (some say $37mil) making it a mid-budget action movie. Top-tier Hollywoood blockbusters of that time were mostly in the ballpark of $50-60mil (with a few exceptions like True Lies or Die Hard 3).
Two fun facts about Speed 2 Cruise Control. 1) The final sequence cost as much as Speed!, 2) For a time on Rotten Tomatoes, it was Sandra Bullocks lowest rated movie at about 4%. Her highest rated (until Gravity came out) was Speed at 90% or thereabouts I would be happier than a kid in a candy store if this film got inducted into the National Film Registry. Even my mum loved it when I showed it to her
Oh I don't know - I think it would have worked just fine with someone like let's say BRENDAN FRASER in the Jack Traven role, after notable performances in "School Ties", "Encino Man" and "With Honors" - matched with MARISA TOMEI as the Annie Porter character, coming straight off of her 1993 Oscar win for "My Cousin Vinny". Swap out Jeff Daniels for WILL PATTON. Let's go with J.T. WALSH in lieu of Dennis Hopper as the disgruntled medically discharged bomb squad cop. CHRISTOPHER WALKEN or GARY BUSY would be obvious contenders for that type of screen chewing villain. Actually, DEAN CAIN would have made a good Jack Traven back in 1994 too, coming in at the height of his TV success on "Lois & Clarke: The New Adventures of Superman". He certainly had the physicality as he played football for Princeton and then briefly in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills. Shares the racially vague mixed Asian and Caucasian quality that Keanu Reeves has too. I bet ASHLEY JUDD (she being mostly cut out from 1994's "Natural Born Killers") or KRISTY SWANSON (she did the not so dissimilar "The Chase" with Charlie Sheen in 1994) could have also played Sandra Bullock's character of Annie quite well. But perhaps they'd both be slightly too conventional. MICHAEL BAY was originally offered "Speed" as his feature debut in the director's chair, but went for "Bad Boys" instead. No doubt Bay would have turned it up to eleven.
In just one summer we had Speed, The Lion King, True Lies, The Mask, Natural Born Killers and more, the 90's really was a golden era for film.
Mate, don't stop, these are brilliant. You're going to grow very big with this content!
I love your videos. Can’t stop watching! Great work!

You have a clip of Sandra Bullock in Demolition Man while saying it was a failure...except it wasn't.
Well put together, excellent narration. Subscribed.

This doesn't work without Keanu and Sandra. They are perfect for their roles.

Neither did Sandra Bollock.
Barely did Keanu Reeves.
What a great video. And I thought I knew everything about Speed.
Great Video.
Your videos are so good. AAA quality.
I wish you a million subscribers and more!
It's hard to believe that the film was actual made with all these hurdles to clear.
I re-watched Speed 1 & 2 a few months ago. The first one still holds up. The second one is not as terrible as I remembered it as, but still not great.
Keanu and Sandra could make a sequel, now that Keanu is a hot action star again after the John Wick series of movies
Speed 2 already exists man. Its awful
Low budget? 30 million was mid budget in 1994
Imagine if Ellen said yes
Your script is good but how you read it is boring.
