I grew up an Evangelical homeschooler, and my mom (who is still an Evanggelical) feels this way. It's so unhealthy and caused both of us a lot of heartache in our lives. Grief is okay. You can still have faith and be deeply devastated by someone's death.

You can’t sanitize a show like Shameless & have the same impact. You just can’t. What’s so profound & widely loved about it is everything they removed. There’s no grit, no ugliness, no poverty, no reality. A lot of us saw ourselves in Shameless but I can’t see myself in these characters. Their furniture isn’t even stained.

Thank you! Shameless was probably the first American series that I thought looked familiar to what I actually grew up with. The start of the series was just amazing - you really felt the atmosphere of the tight community and you could recall stories similar to what was shown on the big screen. It was really ground breaking for me.
Imo, later seasons fell off the wagon but the grittiness and realism I fell in love with so much, I now genuinely have issues with watching the standard "sanitized" hollywood movies. This just ain't it.

    • @-_-0.0-_-
      @-_-0.0-_- 2 года назад +86

@@panonymousbloom5405 the first seasons showed reality, but the later seasons made the cast all make really bad decisions to end up in the same cycle of poverty. Reality is that you can be super smart and still be poor, but the showtime writers apparently forgot that so all the characters had to keep falling into money, then making bad decisions. Just bad writing later on.

Fun fact, in Iowa, where I live, they responded to the BLM movement by making it a misdemeanor to "verbally assault" a cop during a peaceful protest. This can include anything said to a cop that can be perceived as hurtful , like mock his cop stash, jail time. So, not really a fun fact but.

How the fuck is that constitutional?! That really needs to be challenged all the way up the appellate system.
Much more fun fact: a woman in Michigan flipped off a cop, and they ticketed her for it. She took the case to court, and it ended up in a Federal Court of Appeals where her right to flip off police officers was upheld as part of the right to free speech.
That sets precedent for your law in Iowa to be challenged. They would have to follow the existing federal ruling. If you know any white people who can safely take one for the team, tell them to spew all the hurtful words at the pigs and then sue when the police take action.

I give a pass to the oldest sister wanting to take on responsibility for the rest of the kids. It's not at all uncommon in the foster/adopt world to see that dynamic. Eldest sisters often get saddled with playing mom when the actual mother is absent or neglectful, not to mention she may have been the only consistent maternal figure her younger siblings have had if they've been in & out of various bio relatives homes and foster families. A lot of the time adoptive parents struggle with getting the oldest girl in a situation like that to let go of trying to parent her siblings & just be a kid.

And when she goes to the funeral she meets these kids that the father was fostering. And he fostered them b/c he really loved children and missed his own daughter or maybe he just happened to find a last moment of joy by being a parent to these kids. You can say that the kids thought of him as a grandfather
And once the daughter sees, she decides to adopt them b/c it’s sort of her dad’s final wish. Say something about him getting to meet his grandchildren before passing. And then they all have to learn to get a long in a series of wacky events

I feel like this is the first Pureflix review where the certain lighting and technical details were done better than in the previous content you’ve review. Could it be that some Pureflix employees are watching your channel and taking notes? 😂
I love how you can tell Prue is the moody teen with outfit in the first episodes: the army green cargo jacket, black lace up boots, the choker. And Hannah being a “ungodly city slicker” with her all dark color palette and straightened hair. Costume design on this show is somewhat passable at least for a Pureflix budget.

The intro to the show is hilarious, from the comic sans to the imovie-esque editing 😂

I’m not exaggerating when I say that Nick has some of the *best* commentary on RUclips. I can’t stop laughing. Plus, there’s a lot of constructive criticism??? Yes, please

My favorite thing is when Nick goes bananas unexpectedly and for no reason. Like the "I'M SO JEALOUS OF YOUR FASHION JEWELLERY!" moment in this video. You know there's gonna be one of these at some point but they catch you off guard every time

I'm constantly confusing Pure Flix from Nick's channel and Passion Flix from Kennie JD 😂

If I were forced to watch Pure Flix, this would probably be my first choice. Something about family dysfunction always makes me feel at home. 😂

I appreciate you including things they did a good job on like the lighting. I find the technical tidbits interesting too. :)

I love how this sitcom is so bad that the title wasn't even on the title card lmao!!! It said 'title of movie' instead of the actual title
You should keep it that way, it's a great joke lmaooooooo

5:13 to answer ur question (if you care) I think she is supposed to be in Chicago, due to the Sears tower in the establishing city shot- which further plays into the shameless knockoff idea- but the actual shots of her walking look like she’s in some midsize city that was probably cheaper to film in

As the eldest in my family, I can confirm that the oldest sister is not strange for trying to parent her siblings. I’m not fostered or adopted but when my parents hit a rough patch in their relationship, I, as the oldest afab person in the house after my mother, took on a lot of those mother roles while my brother took on those father ones. It’s actually nice to see her take on that role for her family because as someone who has done it before, I know she genuinely cares about them.
