Likes the vid. However I need to point to that when I tested a bucch of Crossovers and utility irons at a pro shop in Aug. I came to one conclusion. I tested a variety of No. 3 clubs, all 20 or 21 degrees reg graphite. I enjoyed hitting them, but my clubbed speed at of between 72 to 75 mph was not fast enough to hit them any farther than my ZX 4 reg steel 5 iron. However the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo hybrids soared high and fraught and I picked up about 4 mph . Sometimes you have to bite the bull et and go what works. not what looks sexy in the. bag.
In all fun mid to high handicappers aren't trying to "fill gaps" in their bags. Most are just looking to create a repeatable swing. Interesting video and clubs
I have replaced my 4 iron with a hybrid 23 degrees and I have a 20 degree hybrid so I opted to get a driving iron and take out my 60 degree lob wedge in its place. I’m not the best ball striker but it works for me when I need it off the tee with wind or trouble on the left as I always fade it. It’s great when I need a punch shot under tree branches. As stated I’m not a great ball striker so although it’s 2 degrees less lofted it carries around the same as my 20 degree hybrid in most cases some carries less but runs more. Great of the tee as I know I can’t go left with it and great for long par 4s or par 5 when no trouble in front of green
Good morning my dad is a massive ping fan and has just added the new crossover iron to his full set of pings from top end to wedges good descriptions of clu s in your video👍
Already promoted my pro to book me a slot at Gainsborough for a fitting early next year when the new models are available - always been a fan and user of Pings driver, fairways and hybrids.
I just added the G425 3H to my bag (I have G425 Dvr, 3W and 4H ) It's a great club off the tee and fairway and gives the low loft option for chasing under trees. Also the G425 is heavily discounted at the moment with he new model due. My club pro took £35 off!
Nice video James. For some of us, a 2 iron and a high handicap might be an oxymoron. Just got the 430 driver, 3w & 7w - and the 7 wood is my go to club.
This year I took the 4 iron out of my bag & put in the Ping 425-5 hybrid, the club was so nice I ended up changing my other two hybrids already in my bag for the 3 & 4 hybrids as well.
Hit a 4 Gcrossover yesterday and it’s a machine. Off centre hits go well but it generally flies high. Having just bought I525s I want to workout my bag between 5 Iron and wood. Probably a crossover and a hybrid. I will try the Icrossover.
Don't know if it will be beneficial to add, but I'm a +1 and absolutely love my G425 19° hybrid. I always played smaller heads and moved from an 818h2 Titleist. The size took some getting used to but now I can't imagine anything replacing it. I'd also add that the Tensei raw white shaft was good but I switched to the Ventus Blue Velocore and it's a terrific combo with the Ping head. Hope this helps someone.
Early This Year I put The 425 Cross over in The Bag mainly for Tight fairways and It Works so Well I'm a 13 Handicap Golfer who can hit a Descendant Drive but not always Straight 😜This is where The Crossover comes into its own It hits The Fairways everytine and Distance wise it's not that far behind The Driver
i gotta say i went to the 425 3h and lowered it -1.5 flat and p[lay it for my 3 iron and 4 iron depending on how i hit it.. the 5h to replace my 5 iron and went from 8.1 to a 6.1 quickly and i was all about ego and hitting long irons but these pings are amazing .. kick ego out the door and get hybrids
I would choose them both. My course and game means I hardly use my 3 wood especially as I hit my 2Hybrid just as far and have more confidence with it in a variety of situations. With my course being very prone to wind though and with a 3 Wood I do not use the icrossover is an option to test as it will allow a different lower flying more rolling option especially in the summer. It might sound a bit odd to have two similar clubs but for me it could be a free hit as I have room for something different when my 3 wood is redundant. The adjustability is also a big plus as I can tweak both clubs in loft and lie until I get the balance right between them and my 4 iron.
I've never tried the crossover. I was looking to put a three hybrid in my bag and bought the Ping on a lark. After going to the driving range I realized I had a game changer. I consistently hit my three hybrid 245 yards and 265 yards when I want it and it's as straight as an arrow.
If I read those numbers correctly, the crossover won on distance on the simulator. However, on the course, the hybrid out performed the crossover. That’s a huge warning to folks who rely only on simulator numbers to select clubs. If you are going to get fitted, see if the shop has a “demo” program. Take the clubs out to the range or course and find the grass.
The issue I've always had with hybrids and woods in general, they always seem to be draw biased. It's very off putting, which is why I've decided to go with a Mizuno Fli-Hi 3 iron. It's still forgiving and doesn't look like it's just going to go left lol.
Just bought a g425 crossover 4 and not planning on trying the i. They look very similar and if anything, I would think the iCrossover would be less forgiving so I'll stick with the g425 (Wich was a replacement for my i500 4 iron). Got the g425 3 hybrid as well
For me as a 14 handicap it is the hybrid all day long. I own the G425 5 wood and I love the results I am getting! What is the best club to replace my 5 iron? I have a distance gap between my 4 hybrid and my 6i right now. Would you recommend a 7 wood, 5 hybrid, or something else?
Exactly the same situation for me! My 6i is 26.5 dgr, my 4 hybrid/iron is 20.5 dgr. Dont launch it high enough from fairway, but it’s a weapon for stingers. I think it would be better with a 22-23 dgr hybrid to fill the gap between 5W and 6i. The ping 4 hybrid with adjustable loft is maybe exactly what I need??
I dont strike my irons as good as i need, so I probably would not pick the crossover. But I do think the crossover would still be worth putting in the bag for someone who hits their irons well
What's interesting is the Standard Deviation in every category (time index 8:30) is at least 50% better for the crossover when hit off an indoor mat. So, while a #2 crossover may be hard to hit, at least it's consistently hard to hit - which is somewhat ironic as at least on this dataset, it's more consistent than the club that's supposed to be easier to hit. Now, outdoors and NOT sitting nicely on a tee? Tee club = #2iron. Fairway/rough = hybrid or 7wood
Question. I would like to get hybrids to replace my 2-3 irons. Would a 2-3 hybrid of the same loft keep my distances the same, or should I use a 3-4 hybrid to maintain those distances?
James, are the new Mizuno driver & fairway woods in your rotation in the remainder of this year? As for your question, which club? If one could afford it, just as certain times of the year some golfers replace their 4i for a 7w, maybe hybrids needs the same consideration.
I think the new 43o hybrids would be a better comparison. I think ping are better value overall for clubs as they never release a bee version until a minimum of two years. Still expensive but not as expensive as other clubs who update their clubs annually.
Too many great clubs to choose from. I am in that mid/high handicap because i just started playing a few months ago, and I am looking to buy atleast a new iron set. I cant decide what to get and def enjoy watching your channel for tips and info.
Good choice to start with is the Wilson Staff D 9 irons...Great price and they really work with forgiveness and preformance....Just get fitted for the shaft cause there are many options...Happy Holidays and Golfing....
It’s very funny you were reviewing these clubs I understand how to deal with the highbred, but the iron is confusing me because I actually am looking to purchase it but I don’t understand the hosel settings because at the website, I am at on customizing this club the hosel can go from standard all the way down to -1.5 and that’s the confusing part. I already have a highbred in my bag which is 22° so I was looking for some thing to replace my four and five iron and I’m not sure if I should pick the three iron and be able to drop it down to almost a four and up as high as a two. I’m thinking that’s what the hosel adjustments are or if I should pick the four iron and try to go from a four down almost at five and maybe almost up to or three maybe I’ve got this all wrong maybe you could help maybe you could do a video I’m just on how to adjust that and you get good at golf. I’m not sure. Thanks for listening to my rant.
I have the g425 hybrid 4 it’s really quite easy to hit I did have the 2 iron g425 you have in the video. I personally found it far too hard to hit compared to the hybrid. I am a 9 hc
Please forgive for some constructive criticism, if you are going to review something as “a mid to high handicapper” can you slow it down and swing at a more representative speed ?
Emotionally I cannot feel confident that I can strike an iron instead of a hybrid with the same expectation of a good result. I believe that good results from a 2 iron are beyond my skill level of a 76 year old 20 handicapper (drifting down from 13 in 2008).
Look at the thumb nail.for this video. Seeing the leading edge in front of the shaft does strange things to my "what should a golf club look like". Name another club that does have so much "onset"
James, I love watching your videos, but you’re not a mid handicapper! When you do videos like this you need to get a mid handicapper on the video to test them out. It’s really difficult so find videos where mid handicap clubs are actually being tested by players who are not pros or scratch level. So content like this would really be appreciated.
There have been a number of technical issues like sound and camera work for some time. However, the quality of content far surpasses the technical issues. The technical issues can be addressed, but it takes talent and skill to produce the quality content. It's unfortunate that James does not appear to rate presentation quality as relevant to channel success. If James is looking for a quarter of a million subscribers, then presentation quality improvements would help massively.
James you could hit a butter knife over 200 yards get Foxy on this and let's see how he does with them and then most Mid to Higher handicap players can relate to the test
I needed this video a year ago! I initially bought the crossover, but then a month later went with the hybrid and I still love it

Grew up with 2 irons,3 irons, have the hybrids now & quite enjoy the feeling of strikes with them.
In all fun mid to high handicappers aren't trying to "fill gaps" in their bags. Most are just looking to create a repeatable swing. Interesting video and clubs
I put the g425 3 hybrid in my bag a couple months ago when they went on sale and I love it!
My ping g400. 4 hybrid is my best friend...
I have replaced my 4 iron with a hybrid 23 degrees and I have a 20 degree hybrid so I opted to get a driving iron and take out my 60 degree lob wedge in its place. I have both in my bag. I use the 17 degree hybrid and 19 degree crossover.

I have the 3 crossover for tee shots and fairways and the 4 hybrid for out of the rough, complement each other perfectly
Yes. I cannot wait for the G430 driver. I an currently playing the G400. I have had it for 5 years and I am hoping for an upgrade.
This year I took the 4 iron out of my bag & put in the Ping 425-5 hybrid, the club was so nice I ended up changing my other two hybrids already in my bag for the 3 & 4 hybrids as well.
I have the G425 2 Hybrid myself and i love it!
Off the tee, the iron looks more comforting. From thr rough the hybrid breeds more confidence to me.
What I really like about Ping is the hosel settings, if your short in height and buying off the rack get Ping the flat settings are nice
Hit a 4 Gcrossover yesterday and it’s a machine. Off centre hits go well but it generally flies high. Having just bought I525s I want to workout my bag between 5 Iron and wood. Probably a crossover and a hybrid. I will try the Icrossover.
I have the g410 crossover3 17* and love it! I’m not a hybrid player!

I carry the g410 3,4 and 5 hybrids love ‘em
The reviews from your mate big Al of the new coming G430 irons and woods from Australia suggest they are awesome. Can wait to try them.
I have the G425 4 and 6 hybrids superb clubs,
James...great content as usual. I'm still trying to get my hands on a Ping ChipR.
I have the G425 4 hybrid. Wonderful forgiving club to hit
I've never tried the crossover. I was looking to put a three hybrid in my bag and bought the Ping on a lark. After going to the driving range I realized I had a game changer. I consistently hit my three hybrid 245 yards and 265 yards when I want it and it's as straight as an arrow.
@JamesRobinson_Golf2 how do I do that?
Love Ping!! Waiting on the 430's...

4 and 7 G425 hybrids in my bag , fantastic clubs 👍, I don't bother with anything less than a 7 iron 😁 yup , I'm getting old and lazy 😁
James I think it’s confidence, which one do you feel most comfortable when standing over
I wouldn't be using a 2 iron out of the rough. Maybe a 4/5 hybrid or 7/8 iron. Ping has certainly made some good looking clubs of late.
the new G430 irons are nice.
I can’t wait till I get to order the Ping 5, 6, 7 hybrids!
2 cracking looking clubs a one fantastic review, tough choice but I would go with the crossover
I have the 4 hybrid really like it G425 3wood next

Screw the hybrid, the crossover or….well, the Taylormade or Mizuno long irons are the schizney!
Actually I prefer the look of a hybrid. I look down and I see forgiveness, inspiring confidence.
Question. I would like to get hybrids to replace my 2-3 irons. Would a 2-3 hybrid of the same loft keep my distances the same, or should I use a 3-4 hybrid to maintain those distances?

Well done James 👏

Love the hybrid. Nice look. Thanks
Were they compatible with the same shaft from ping?
Hybrid would be my choice as a higher handy capper, as normal a great video
I would pick the hybrid every time.

Cobra Rad speeds, last years model. Save the extra bucks and trust me.. they go much farther than any other game improvement.
You’ve found the “perfect club” every week for the past 2 years 😴
Yet here you are.
@@navykeef stop acting like your favorite RUclipsr is above criticism
Lol 🤣👍
😂 😂😂😂😂
He’s pretty good at them
I’d love to play a utility iron however I don’t feel I have the club head speed to play one.
JUST THE VIDEO I WAS GOING TO ASK FOR GREAT
The hybrid no doubt
I would choose the hybrid.
It’s very funny you were reviewing these clubs I understand how to deal with the highbred, but the iron is confusing me because I actually am looking to purchase it but I don’t understand the hosel settings because at the website, I am at on customizing this club the hosel can go from standard all the way down to -1.5 and that’s the confusing part. an 18 degree 2 iron from Ping is interesting my first set was the Ping Eye and they had a 19 degree 3 iron
I have the g425 hybrid 4 it’s really quite easy to hit I did have the 2 iron g425 you have in the video. I personally found it far too hard to hit compared to the hybrid. I am a 9 hc

Fantastic video ty
Time for a towel review. I was cringing watching that filthy club go in the bag!
Please test Tommy Armour 845 irons from Dick's Sporting Goods, they are only $399 for gap thru 5 iron.
Why does Chris hate on the 60 degree and use the 56 and open it up to a 60
Big fan of Ping but I just simply cannot afford them.
Hybrid for me , crossover lot harder to hit consistently as an older golfer .
Hybrid all day long. I carry a 3 & 4 hybtids
👍👍👍
Look at the thumb nail.for this video. Seeing the leading edge in front of the shaft does strange things to my "what should a golf club look like". Name another club that does have so much "onset"
We all know what the new Ping lineup is gonna be so unless you’re under contract with Ping you might as well say it
Hi brid every time forme
Hardly ANY mid-handicappers are hitting that crossover better than a hybrid.
The audio was all over the place
Ping is like apple, they have the worst and slowest tech adoption but they make it simple and do it well albeit 5 yrs slower than the rest
There are so perfect he never uses them himself
Hybrid all day. I couldn't hit that crossover if my life depended on it.
Why is Foxy not the one testing them instead of you?
He’s on honeymoon… want me to fly him back early?
Mid/high handicapper? Yeah!!! That’s what a dude shooting 90+ needs. A FREAKING 2 IRON!!! 😂😂😂
The sound quality has been poor for sometime now cuts words out all the time as if your swearing and bleeping them
There have been a number of technical issues like sound and camera work for some time. However, the quality of content far surpasses the technical issues. Maybe for a real test, why don't you have a mid/high handicap player test the clubs. Not a PGA professional pretending to be high handicapper.
Hybrid every time.
James you could hit a butter knife over 200 yards get Foxy on this and let's see how he does with them and then most Mid to Higher handicap players can relate to the test
